Breakfast Topic: Timewalking is incredible

This weekend is officially patch 6.2’s first bonus-event weekend and it brings with it Timewalking to Burning Crusade dungeons.  Timewalking is a feature I’ve been ridiculously excited for ever since it was announced, so one of the first things I did yesterday was put myself right in queue.  To put it simply, the experience did not disappoint me.

Fittingly enough, the first dungeon I entered was Black Morass — the retelling of Medivh’s opening of the Dark Portal and the first arrival of the Old Horde on Azeroth.  While the dungeon itself felt a little under-tuned, everything else about it was exactly as I remembered.  There was the blood elf offering Chrono-Beacons that most of the group would likely forget to grab/use; there were Crocolisks, Tarantulas, and Jaguars to avoid as we moved from portal to portal; and there were boss emotes and speeches that were so ingrained in my memory that I could practically say them for the bosses.  But more than this, as I was running around clearing familiar trash in a way that felt more akin to a much-recited dance than extraneous mobs to grind, there was the feeling that Timewalking had opened up huge potential for the future of the game.

Suddenly, I began to imagine myself queuing for five-man dungeons in the next expansion, [REDACTED] of the [REDACTED] [REDACTED], and having any one of World of Warcraft’s 83 (yes, I counted) dungeons pop up.  Thanks to down-scaling, grouping with players across multiple level ranges would be possible (my first dungeon consisted of level-72 and level-91 players who felt exactly as powerful as anyone else).  Coupled with a slightly better reward system, it felt like Timewalking had given WoW the potential to keep dungeons relevant much longer and expose classic content to those who may have never seen it before.

How about you, though?  What have been your experiences in Timewalking dungeons and would you like to see the system utilized or changed in the future?  I’m especially curious to hear from players who have never seen these dungeons before!
