Heroes of the Storm free hero rotation and sales for June 30

If you’re just getting started with Heroes of the Storm, here’s the deal: Every week there are some heroes you’d usually have to pay for that you can play for free in the free hero rotation, plus a number of heroes and skins on sale in the weekly sale. It’s a great way to try out new heroes without committing to buy, as well as grabbing new heroes, skins, and mounts at bargain prices. On top of this week’s rotation, we also expect to get our first real taste of the Eternal Conflict expansion on Tuesday with the release of the Battlefield of Eternity map and The Butcher as the game’s latest Assassin hero.

Whether or not you’re excited about Sanctuary invading the Nexus, you’ll be glad to hear that all players will get a 100% XP boost this weekend, running from Thursday, July 2 through Monday, July 6, to make up for the previous XP boost ending early. That will make this holiday weekend a great time to give your favorite heroes a leveling boost.

So just who is on the agenda this week? Let’s check out this week’s freebies:

  • Raynor
  • Muradin — be sure to check our guide to Muradin
  • Falstad
  • Sonya
  • Tyrande
  • Gazlowe (Available after you reach player level 12)
  • Azmodan (Available after you reach player level 15)

I polled our team of Heroes players to get some thoughts on what the rotation means for the week:

Mitch: I will never complain about a free chance to Azmodunk. His minion pushing is about to get nerfed because of the Promote nerf, but he’s still good and Azmodunking is one of the most satisfying ways to kill in that game ever. If players using free Gazlowe don’t realize he’s best suited for camps and lanes, it could be frustrating.

Matt: Enjoy feasting on all the Gazlowes, Tyrandes, and Falstads this week. Gazlowe continues to be one of the more useless heroes in the game and should be viewed as as a novelty — that is, unless you happen to draw the Sunken Temple map thing with the beams and lasers. Then he’s upgraded to somewhat useful. Otherwise, if you want to make yourself useful, L2 Muradin and jump all over the things.

Anna: With the exceptions of Muradin, Falstad, and Azmodan those are all kind of terrible heroes. And Azmodan requires lots of skill shotting to not suck.

Matt: Falstad takes exceptional timing to play properly and if you’re a good Falstad player, you already own him.

Not sure how to play any of these? Beyond our guide to Muradin, check out our assassin guide, our specialist guide, our support guide, and our warrior guide for quick rundowns on each hero. If you’re in the market for new heroes or skins, here’s what’s on sale this week:

Potential Brightwing buyers should be aware, however, that our favorite faerie dragon has undergone some changes on the PTR that we’re likely to see live in game this week. This week’s freebies and sales should go live on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PST / 5:30 EST — until then, we’ll see you in the Nexus!
