The Queue: Still alive

Welcome back to The Queue, the Q&A column for all things Blizzard related. If you have a question for the Queue, leave a comment and you may see it answered!

So the other really cool part of the VGL concert I attended was the very last encore, which brought every special guest composer to the stage for a singalong of Still Alive. With everyone in the audience participating. They flashed the lyrics on the screens for us, just in case, but I don’t think there was anyone attending that really needed them. If you have a chance to catch Video Games Live in your area or somewhere nearby, go do it — it’s an experience that really shouldn’t be missed.

HETTIEDINEBAI ASKED:

How are they going to justify taking Dalaran, which had become an Alliance city again, and making it neutral again? Why would Blood Elves want to return to a city where the Sunreavers were slaughtered and imprisoned? Why would the Silver Covenant, or any of the Kirin Tor, want to work with the Horde that destroyed Theramore and killed Rhonin, the former leader of Dalaran? Why is Varian going to roll over and just let Dalaran be taken by Khadgar, as if he was the Grand Poobah? This seems like a set up for more Alliance disappointment. Any gains that are made are lost before we can even see them in the game…

I think really all Khadgar has to do is go to the Magus Commerce Exchange, point at that statue of Antonidas, universally beloved leader of the Kirin Tor, and ask the mages of Dalaran what Antonidas died for, if not to protect the city from the Burning Legion. Certainly it wasn’t divisive factional conflict. And in Legion, those same forces threaten the world again, so are the mages going to continue bickering amongst themselves, or rally to the cause at hand and do what must be done?

But I’m sure we’ll see story about this at some point. It’s way too early to get worked up about stories, when we don’t even know what those stories are yet.

PLENTIFUL BLOSSOMS ASKED:

Question on the cinematic trailer:  if Illidan got his tricked-out horns and demon powers from consuming Gul’dan’s skull, then shouldn’t AU Gul’dan be little *cautious* about hanging around Illidan or any of the other Illidari?

That’s one point that I’ve been going over in my head since I watched that, but for different reasons. When Illidan consumed the powers of the Skull of Gul’dan, he not only transformed, he gained some of Gul’dan’s memories while he was at it. Which means out of anyone on Azeroth, Illidan is likely the single best candidate to know how to take Gul’dan down, no matter which reality he happens to be from. That may end up being a plot point somewhere.

RJJAGODA ASKED:

Semi-serious question: Why is it called the “Tomb” of Sargeras? He’s not dead.

Aegwynn definitely didn’t know that when she fought and supposedly killed the Avatar of Sargeras several hundred years ago. Once she killed him, she buried the corpse in the Tomb. At the time, the Tomb was still submerged under the oceans, so nobody would be able to access the thing — that is, until Gul’dan raised the Tomb from the oceans in a bid to claim the powers within. That … did not go so well for Gul’dan.

RAINSPIRIT ASKED:

Q4tQ: With class flavor returning if you could ask for anything your class (or classes) lost to be returned what would it be?

Swirly ball. A non-glyphed Swirly Ball, please.

Really though, I kind of miss poisons feeling…relevant. Right now poisons have been homogenized to the point where it’s just a menu you click to make your weapons do more damage. Back in the day, we actually had to learn poison recipes and make them, carry them around in our bags. Yes, it was a pain, yes, it took up bag space, but at the same time it felt like poisons were a definitive thing that existed in the game itself, a thing with a purpose and meaning. Now they’re just a button on a menu and it feels like they’re almost meaningless. I mean, you could just give rogues a passive that made weapons auto-coat with poisons when equipped and it would feel like it had as much value, you know?

DELATERRE ASKED:

Q4TQ; Are Demon Hunters going to be elf only?

Yes. Night elves and blood elves.

VELENSCHOSEN…PLUSHIE ASKED:

Q4tQ: If enhancement shaman will be getting Doomhammer as an artifact weapon and per the developer interview there will be no weapon drops in Legion, what is our off-hand?  I know its early and we are still getting details, but I’m curious if it was said somewhere and I missed it?

You get a reflection of your main hand made of pure energy for your offhand, according to the announcement. Which sounds like you’ll have a hammer, and a spirit hammer — which sounds pretty cool to me!

PFUZZYBUNNY ASKED:

Before Wrath actually came out, couldn’t we make DKs?

I would like to be able to try a DH before Legion comes out to see if I like it. I don’t want playing it/trying it out to interfere with my main making his way through the new xpac.

Nope! Death Knights were not playable in game until Wrath launched. You could make them and play them in beta, but not on live servers. You’ll be able to test the Demon Hunter in Legion’s beta, whenever that actually begins. You can opt in for the beta on Battle.net.

That’s it for today’s Queue — if you have any questions you’d like to see answered, be sure to leave them in the comments below!
