StarCraft Hydralisk makes appearance at Otakuthon 2015

The balmy Québec weather hardly kept back crowds at this year’s Otakuthon — and in fact, many of the various Sailor Scouts, ninjas, Hydralisks, and other heroes and villains that attendees chose to portray.

Wait — Hydralisk? Wouldn’t that be a bit difficult for a mere mortal to portray given its, well, lack of certain major humanoid features? Well, one StarCraft fan certainly took the challenge, and made a Hydralisk costume worthy of something in the cinema. And why not give said costume a cinematic introduction:

As the video illustrates, the sheer amount of effort invested into this costume is pretty amazing — it’s difficult to even comprehend that there’s a person in there! As the video portrays, the support of the creator’s family and friends certainly help in ensuring the integrity of the costume — and the absolutely glorious shots they were able to get of it in order to create the video. The features of the costume are also quite remarkable. As illustrated, Hydralisk’s tail actually does move with the wearer, and the texturing to recreate the scaled armor is superb.

Hopefully this is a costume that we see again at future conventions — it is certainly a work of art, with absolute attention to detail.
