The Queue: Sure, I’ll buy that

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

BURNNOTICE ASKED:

Hearthstone q4tq. If you have two cards and get a golden version of it. Do you keep them all or disenchant one of them? And if you d/e do you do the gold or regular version? Just trying to figure out if there is any reason to keep the gold cards other than Ooh shiny.

Personally, since my card collection is so lacking, I disenchant gold versions of cards I already have in their plain version. Gold versions give you more dust than the standard version and they have no gameplay benefit other than being shiny. I’ll hang onto gold versions if/when I fill out my entire collection. Until then, I’ll take the dust.

I admit, though, I didn’t know gold versions gave more dust until I’d disenchanted the vast majority of my plain duplicates. Boy, did I feel silly.

CHEMICALELLIS ASKED:

Where do gargoyles come from?

The new bat demons seem like they’re very deliberately reminiscent of gargoyles (especially in the cinematic), and it makes me wonder at the connection. All we know about gargoyles is that they’re undead; undead what?

Gargoyles come from the distant Cool Stuff Isles. I, personally, doubt there’s much more to it than that, and I’m neither Anne nor Rossi, so I’m not gonna throw out some wild theories. We’ve seen them with undead, we’ve seen them with demons, we’ve seen gargoyles that are statues which come to life, we’ve seen people who transform into gargoyles like vampires. We’ve seen them among Humans, we’ve seen them among Trolls, we’ve seen them among the Twilight’s Hammer, and I seem to recall we’ve seen them on other planets.

Gargoyles are cool so Blizzard uses them as stuff for us to fight.

PEPE STORMSTOUT ASKED:

What underutilized deck archetypes/gimmicks would you like to see becoming more viable in the future? Blizzard have been trying to make Beast Druid a thing since they introduced Druid of the Fang in GvG, but it doesn’t really have enough strong cards to be viable yet. They also made a half-arsed attempt at making Taunt and Dragon Warrior a thing in TGT, but I haven’t seen a single one in constructed.

I did see a Spell Damage Mage with Arcane Blast and Master of Ceremonies once, and Mill Rogues with Coldlight Oracles and Brann Bronzebeard seem to be somewhat common currently, so at least there’s that.

I’ve always wanted to see a pirate deck become competitive. You can make a pirate deck work well enough to get you a card back each month, but they’re not something you’re going to see in tournament play — and I wish we did. I think pirates are cool. I have no other justification for that. Pirates, pirates, and more pirates, please. And when pirates are dominating the ladder, Murloc Shaman can come to the rescue and turn the tide against those salty dogs.

SALLYBOWLS1 ASKED:

So can vets say how Alpha feels relative to WoD? Were we at this level of completion 12 months before WoD? 8? We have plenty of time to speculate.

The alpha is little more than the BlizzCon demo right now. It includes part of the Demon Hunter quest chain. Not all of it. Just a portion of it — probably the most complete and polished portion of it, since that’s what was used to show off the expansion at BlizzCon. This is an incredibly early release. If Blizzard has more of the expansion done (or as done as an alpha or beta ought to be), they aren’t letting us play it yet. My memory might be failing me, but I believe Warlords of Draenor kicked off its alpha/beta with a playable Frostfire Ridge. That was one (admittedly incomplete) zone, and this is even less content than that. If you’ve played this alpha for an hour or two, you’ve done everything you can do.

It’s way too early to speculate. I sincerely doubt this handful of quests is all Blizzard has done/ready for implementation, but they aren’t letting us see anything else yet. However, given comments at BlizzCon and the pre-order deadline, I don’t expect to see Legion‘s launch until Summer 2016. Maybe July? If we’re lucky.

COGLINE ASKED:

What happened to the Heroes of the Storm Black Friday sale that was going to start today?  I went to buy the 360 day stimpack and didn’t see it in the shop.

I know you asked this early yesterday morning, but I bought a skin late last night. So… it’s live! If you’re specifically looking for the 360 Day Stimpack, it isn’t listed under Stimpacks in the in-game shop. Rather, it’s on the first page under the Featured tab.
