The Queue: Give me your goods, vendor

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

Ninsianna is a liar who says she has no relics to sell me, when clearly she’s got merchandise sitting in that case right in front of her. Look lady, I don’t care if it’s a relic or not. I just want some collectible figures, is that too much to ask?

IDENE ASKED:

QFTQ – i’ve nearly maxed out my battle pets (all rare, nearly lvl 25) and only have the harder to obtain ones left (drops, tcg), do i keep doing pet battles and horde the pet charms? Have they got a use in Legion, or are they replaced by something else?

Keep stockpiling them. They’re still useful in Legion — or at least right now on the alpha they are. There’s several new pets and toys to purchase, among other things. Pet Battle currency doesn’t seem to be changing at all, so it’s safe to just keep piling them in your bags.

GROTRAUGH ASKED:

So, I was looking at the Legion raid testing, and one of the upcoming bosses are the old dragons of nightmare. It looks like the encounter designers have tried to incorporate as many abilities from the Vanilla versions of these bosses are possible, so we’ll have mushrooms for Emeriss, healing shades from Lethon, etc. Do you have fond memories of these former world bosses? And are you glad to see them make a return to playable content?

Oh boy, do I have stories — okay. So keep in mind that during vanilla I played on a PVE server, and the population was ridiculously lopsided. There were way, way more Alliance than there were Horde, which meant there were a lot more top-end Alliance raiding guilds than Horde. I was in the top Horde guild on my server. We were just behind the top two Alliance guilds in terms of progression. If you asked any of my guildmates at the time, they would have told you it’s because 1. The Alliance have Paladins and they’re way too OP, and 2. The Alliance have Fear Ward, which means their tanks have it easymode on bosses because Fear Ward is OP.

Because of the lopsided population, there was absolutely no way we could do the world bosses. It just wasn’t possible. If we showed up and tried to engage, we’d get three or four Alliance raid guilds running in and force-flagging us to wipe us out, because they wanted the kill. After about a month or so of fruitless attempts, our raid leads called it quits on the world bosses, because it was blatantly clear that we weren’t going to be getting any of that loot until the next expansion was out, if even then.

So I don’t really have fond memories of the world bosses in question. But at the same time, I was fascinated with the Emerald Nightmare, and all those green portals and where they could potentially go. I think it’s interesting, lore wise, that we’ll see some of them make a return, and I want to see what the explanation is for that — particularly since the Nightmare was supposedly pushed back dealt with and contained in the novel Stormrage.

ARTHONOS ASKED:

Q4tQ: Legion professions. Any idea if you will want to have 2 crafting professions on your raiding main? I know the stat bonus have been gone for a while now, but I want to make sure nothing is changing before I unlearn one.

I’ve been Eng/JC since Wrath, and WoD really made me question the work vs. reward of having JC over mining. I made almost nothing on gems this expansion. The bulk of my gold came from crafted items and their upgrade tokens.

I can’t honestly answer that question yet because I haven’t really dabbled much with professions so far in the alpha, beyond the gathering ones (Fishing/Mining/Herbalism). I’m in the same boat you are as far as having a JC/Engineer, and usually what I end up doing at the beginning of every expansion is dropping JC, picking up Mining to max out the Engineering as soon as possible, and then picking JC back up after mining enough ore to power through leveling it. Once we get to the point where we can copy our mains over to the alpha servers I’ll take a closer look at it — but I don’t even know how finalized professions are, right now.

I do know that Herbalism is a lot of fun, weirdly enough. Part of that is the quests, and part of that is, of course, the Fjarnskaggl.

LAVINDAR ASKED:

QftQ: Do you think we will see lil’Varian at the movie? So far there was not info on him, somehow I fear they my remove his part in the first war altogether :|

Varian’s in the film, there’s an actor who portrays him, but I don’t know how much of a role he actually has. In canon lore, Varian was there and witnessed King Llane’s assassination. Lothar pretty much stepped in at that point and took the kid to Lordaeron with what remained of Stormwind’s population. But the story in the movie is already showing some differences between it and what we know from canon, so I don’t really know what Varian’s role is going to be in the film, or how much of him we’ll see. The good news is, we don’t have too much longer to wait for it!

OPAUG ASKED:

With Demon Hunters becoming available before Legion launch for pre-purchasers, will it be possible to start the legendary ring questline with a Demon Hunter?

Nope! Once the pre-patch for Legion goes live, you won’t be able to get the quest anymore. Players that are already in the middle of the quest will still be able to complete it, but new players (and new Demon Hunters) won’t be able to pick it up.

VALENCEMAGI ASKED:

Q4tQ: maybe it’s just because Chronicle has brought it to sharp relief, but do you feel like the lore of Warcraft has gotten to big?
I feel like you could pretty easily summarize a big hunk of the lore as, “and then the planets got into a slap fight.”
I kinda miss when it felt more like people doing stuff.

Not especially. The thing about Warcraft lore is that there are several different layers to it — all those giant cosmic battles going on as described in Chronicle are at the outermost layer. What we’re doing as heroes of Azeroth is on a much, much smaller scale — but it’s just as important. I think the thing I like about Warcraft lore is that the vast expanse of it all leaves room for everything from giant, sprawling epics to smaller personal tales.
