Breakfast Topic: I love Overwatch and I’ll never play it again

I played Overwatch during the open beta. I like a lot of the game, except, well, the actual game. The art design, the sound, the look and feel of the game? All aces. The story bits that have come out in character descriptions, video shorts, comics? Yep. I’m looking forward to the graphic novels, because I think Overwatch has created a cool, fun, immersive world and I’m glad it’s a huge success.

I just have no desire to ever play it again.

For starters, I’m legally blind — reading I can manage, and games like Diablo 3 where I don’t have to worry about letting anyone but myself down when I can’t see something I still get a lot of enjoyment out of, but Overwatch is a team shooter and having had to say yes when asked twice if I was blind got old pretty fast. I can just barely still play WoW comfortably, and even then there’s a big blind spot I have to make allowances for — so I may not be the best choice for team based shooting.

Lots of people have similar problems. So I’m not complaining so much as explaining my reason. Well, one of them — I’m also more of a fan of narrative based games or world exploration stuff, sandboxes, and RPGs. Even my favorite mindless smash and loot has a ton of RPG elements. (Thank you for many hours of crazy, Diablo 3.) So in the end, I think Overwatch is a lush, beautiful and fun game that’s not for me.

How about you? Have you gotten into the swing of things or are you cheering from the sidelines?
