“Rate This Match” removed from Overwatch; Jeff Kaplan explains why

Jeff Kaplan, who you may remember from the Overwatch team, gave a short, slightly amusing explanation as to why the option to “rate this match” no longer appears at the conclusion of a match. The developer teams get tons more data from internal metrics than we could ever hope to tease out as players. Jeff noted that the data they were taking from the ratings button was maybe not the most helpful to anyone.

  • Players do not enjoy losing

We want to reduce as much clutter in the UI as possible and seeing as we were not getting tremendous results from the feature, we decided to remove it.

It might be interesting to guess why new players may click the button more often than more experienced ones. I think it’s ennui from the grizzled veterans, personally.

Presented with the rest of the information here it definitely makes sense the team would opt to remove it, though. As long as their internal matchmaking stays pretty solid without players having to remember to manually click a little button at the conclusion of each match, we’ll bid a fond farewell to the “rate this match” button.
