Are we getting remasters of Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2?

Blizzard is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to, and I’m quoting here, “restore [Starcraft, Warcraft III and Diablo 2] to glory.” This is in line with a similar job posting from 2015, and Blizzard has been talking about restoring these games in the same basic language for years. We haven’t heard much about what they actually have planned, but we do know that StarCraft Remastered is in the works.

So could we be close to an announcement about Diablo 2 or Warcraft III? Given the almost-year-and-a-half between the last job posting the the StarCraft Remasted announcement…probably not. Still, it can’t hurt to watch for a patch to either game — like the recent one Starcraft got — that brings it closer to modern standards, because that kind of groundwork could be significant in terms of work being done on the remaster.

Ultimately, we’ll know more when Blizzard announces it, but it’s worth paying attention to. I’d love to see a remastered Diablo 2, and with Legion showing us a lot of the characters from back then, Warcraft III on modern systems would be a hoot — maybe even in time for a return of some sort?
