Are we going to have a year of patch 7.3?

Without going into spoilers, it looks to me like patch 7.3 is going to have some fairly robust systems that will take a while to exhaust, such as the Netherlight Crucible and Relic Customization. Looking at the sheer amount of content coming — three zones full of World Quests and open world content, a new dungeon, a raid, a storyline campaign — I’m starting to ask myself how long we’ll be expected to take to do it all. Six months? Eight? How long will Patch 7.3 last, and will it overstay it’s welcome?

I think we all remember Mists of Pandaria‘s patch 5.4, which was well received when it went live, and very much overstayed its welcome. One of the complaints a lot of people made at the time was that Mists seemed to burn through its content too fast, and that if they’d staggered each content patch out a month or so longer than they did, 5.4 wouldn’t have felt nearly so long in the tooth by the end.

Warlords had the problem of an overlong final patch combined with feeling like not enough content before said patch, which I think Legion has well and truly avoided. The fact that raids have been staggered and we haven’t gotten everything all at once has, to a degree, felt like the lessons of Mists and Warlords have been learned. But even with staggered releases of content within a patch and micro-patches like 7.2.5 I do wonder — will we still be in patch 7.3 a year after it drops? Will that be okay for most players? Would you accept it, and what do you think it would take to hold your interest that long?
