Discipline Priests can apparently do anything, including defeat Argus

Remember last week when an all tank group solo’d Heroic Antorus? Well, just before patch 8.0 dropped, a group of plucky Discipline Priests decided to do them one better and do an all Disc run. And since they only decided to do this last Thursday, they got pretty far in a short amount of time. They managed to kill some bosses (again, with only Discipline Priests) in Heroic and Normal Antorus, including the Normal-difficulty version of Argus the Unmaker himself. That’s pretty awesome.

The article on Wowhead was written by Mend, who co-admins the FocusedWill community, who also helped form the group. They cleared Heroic Garothi Worldbreaker and Heroic Felhounds of Sargeras before running into trouble on other bosses, and since the raid was only intended to last three or four hours, they decided to step it down to Normal difficulty. Overall, Normal was of course much easier — they went on to clear Aggramar and Argus the Unmaker without much issue, despite having to deal with tank swap mechanics and the need to separate adds on the Argus fight.

As you might expect, having 25 or so Discipline Priests means that you can Power Word: Shield a lot of damage by keeping it up on cooldown on the characters taking the tank damage. Some tank swapping needed to be worked on, but proper use of Smite to gain the benefit of Sanctuary‘s next-hit absorb meant that a lot of times damage could be mitigated by knowing when to deal damage. They used Fade to switch threat on various bosses, and while their DPS was on the low side, it got the job done.

I find this kind of thing really inspiring. I hope that the changes to gear and Artifacts in 8.0 don’t mean we won’t get any cool raid strats like these, but I sincerely doubt we’ll see anything like this again until well after we’re level 120 and into the end of the Battle for Azeroth cycle. Still, I wouldn’t mind being proved wrong. (Looking at you, all Affliction Warlock Antorus group I can already feel forming.)
