The Queue: Pay no attention to the dragon corpse

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

What’s that puff of ice and snow behind me, you ask? Totally not a new mount raised from the dead. I mean, that would be a terrible thing to do. Absolutely horrible. I’d never do such a thing.

…I really liked the Death Knight Class Hall campaign. It was creepy as all get out.

GALDWYNN ASKED:

Q4tQ: Is there anything I should know before boosting my Rogue to 110? Do I automatically get the artifact weapons, or do I need to do the quests for them?

I haven’t boosted a Rogue, but I just got done boosting a DK, so hey, I have answers! You will automatically get one Artifact weapon of your choosing — it’ll ask you to pick your spec. If you’d like to get the other weapons, you’ll need to do the chain to acquire them as per usual.

If, for some reason, you’d still like to see what that skipped Artifact chain is like, I suggest rolling a trial character. You’ll go through the opening quests for your Artifact as part of the trial. You don’t have to keep the trial character, you can just chuck it mercilessly into the void once you’ve obtained all the story goodness you wish to see. Fun, right?

Here’s the other thing — you’ll have your Class Hall chain to do, but it won’t quite be all of the quests. At least for the DK quest chain, it started me out by asking me to nab my first couple of followers for missions. The opening quests were already completed. Note that your first couple of followers are automatically going to be lower-level — they won’t be 110 like you.

If you’re looking for a way to get your followers fixed up super fast, hit the Broken Shore and do the quests out there. You can use the Nethershards you gather to purchase Grimoires of Lost Knowledge, which will give your followers a beefy XP boost.  Follow that up with some Relinquished Armor Sets to bump their ilvl to 880, and you should be good to go for most missions — at least good enough to get started on the Argus ones, should you wish to do those.

STRAYLIGHT ASKED:

Q4tQ: How do you reckon levelling through Legion content will be in BfA as regards artifacts and legendaries? I really hope everyone will still be able to have the experience of artifact traits and awesome orange drops when they level in the future because it was truly a unique experience.

I’m pretty sure the Artifact experience will stay baked in — I mean, it was a pretty integral part of the Legion storyline. I don’t know about legendary items, however. You start really getting those when you hit max level. By the time you hit max level in Legion content, you’re going to be moving on to Battle for Azeroth material anyway, and they won’t be relevant anymore. I don’t know if they’re going to remove those legendaries outright, but they’re rare enough drops that I’d say moving on into current content is probably more expedient than sticking around Legion content and trying to farm orange items for fun, you know?

NUGEN1 ASKED:

If the light is now just a power source, how does it abandon people that use it. If it is an unreliable power source, why would people use it instead of other sources of power?

The Light has always been a type of power — this isn’t a new thing. But just like with any source of power, there’s certain things you need to do to access it. In the case of NPCs or characters that feel like the Light has “abandoned” them, I like to think it’s not a literal abandoning. It’s more like they’ve changed somehow, and they don’t embody the set of tenets required to access the Light. They just don’t realize it. Once they figure out what they’re missing, the Light will come back to them. And the Light is incredibly powerful. I mean, it heals wounds, it can bring people back from the dead — you just have to be really disciplined (no pun intended) to use it.

TIKANIJAH ASKED:

Q4tQ: With a sizeable portion of the players paying for subs with gold, if it passes a tipping point where more than half of players are not paying real money for their subscription, can we technically call WoW a free to play game?

No, because you still have to pay for the initial title/expansion/what have you. Heroes of the Storm, for example, is a free-to-play game. You don’t have to pay for the game itself, you can download it and play without purchasing anything. It’ll take you a really long time to get all those heroes and skins you might want, but you still don’t have to pay for them if you don’t want to. You can just earn them over time. In WoW’s case, you can play for free with the starter edition, but you’re limited in what you can do. If you want to experience current content, you still have to pay for the latest expansion to get there.

MISTAH J ASKED:

Q4tQ: if you transmog, what do you base your transmog around (weapon, tabard, class/spec fantasy, etc)?

Most of the time when I transmog, it’s for RP purposes. I play on RP servers, although I haven’t really gotten around to any roleplaying lately. But each of my characters has their own story and background. I tend to build my transmog sets around what I think the character would like to wear. In some cases, environment also plays a part. If my character is in a colder climate, I’ll put them in something that looks warm. If they’re in a tropical or desert area, then I’ll find something more appropriate to that climate. But that’s me, and again, I’m on a roleplaying server, so those choices make sense to me — I’m sure other people have their own reasons for transmog choices. Feel free to pipe up in the comments with ’em!

ARCHMAGE RC ASKED:

So on a scale of 1 to Illidan, how prepared are we for the inevitable debates about flying in BfA?

I don’t know if we’re actually going to get a lot of debate about it, this time around. The Pathfinder method of obtaining flying has been in the game for a couple of expansions now. Blizzard seems pretty happy with how it works, and I can’t say I hate it or anything. I don’t mind being stuck to ground mounts for a while in a new expansion — it gives me an excuse to explore. And when I do invariably unlock flying, it feels like an accomplishment, something I’ve rightfully earned.

I also don’t mind that I don’t have to pay gold for it, either. I mean…flying was getting pretty expensive, you know? It’s nice that we can just earn it instead of forking over gold that could be used for other, better things. Like more mounts to ride around on! …I’m probably not the best person to be asking this question to, in hindsight.
