Revel in randomness and get ready to win Valeera’s Bag of Burgled Spells Hearthstone Tavern Brawl

Jesters, dreamers, and thieves are out this week in the Valeera’s Bag of Burgled Spells Tavern Brawl. Valeera’s stolen a whole bunch of spells from her fellow Heroes and it’s a battle to the death to see who can make the best use of their ill gotten gain.

Nothing to choose this week, just hit the Brawl button and go. Both you and your opponent play as Valeera. Your deck is filled with nothing but spells from various classes. When you cast a spell, it summons a minion of the same cost. If you cast a 4 mana spell, you’ll get a 4 mana minion. It can be any 4 mana minion, including class minions, so there’s a big pool to draw from.

But you can make some terrible RNG rolls. Howlfiend is a 3-mana minion and discards cards from your hand when he takes damage. Ticking Abomination is a 4-mana minion with a Deathrattle that deals 5 damage to friendly minions. Also at 4 mana is Rattling Rascal with a Deathrattle to summon a 5/5 Skeleton for your opponent. Normally, this would be offset by his Battlecry to summon a 5/5 Skeleton for you, but Battlecries don’t fire for summoned minions.

This Brawl uses the Wild pool, and has so many possibilities that it doesn’t make sense to play around the bad rolls. If you get one, either try to overcome it or conceded and try again.

How to win Valeera’s Bag of Burgled Spells

Like most random Brawls, luck is a significant part of winning, both in the spells you get and the minions your spells summon. Your basic loop is to try to clear your opponent’s minions with your spells while your spells summon minions for you. The games play out like a ping pong match. AOE spells are plentiful. You can go from a full board to a cleared board in a hurry.

The order of operations is critical for this Brawl. Remember, when you cast a spell the minion is summoned and then the spell effect is triggered. If you cast a Twisting Nether, you’ll summon an 8-mana minion and clear the board, killing the 8-mana minion you just summoned. Spells which summon minions are particularly good. You’ll get he summoned minion, plus the minion summoned from the Brawl rules. Just make sure you’ve got room on the board when you summon any minions, and remember that the minion from the Brawl effect is summoned first.

As long as I’ve got a decent board clear, I like to let the other player build his board. I’ll play my board clear, and swing the game. Sometimes it works. Other times, not so much.

As usual, persistence pays off

While there’s a high degree of randomness to the Brawl, there are fun strategic decisions as you try to solve your opponents board turn after turn. With the powerful nature of spells, you can swing the board and the game, but this is just a Brawl, don’t be afraid to give up, concede and try again. Eventually, you’ll get the pack.

The Brawl is a good way to knock out quest like cast 20 spells, or play as a Rogue.
