The Legend in the Mist TTRPG has finally released, and Tavern Watch is here to dip our toes back into the world of rustic fantasy adventure! It's time for the Spring Renewal Festival in the little town of Ravenhome, kicking off the warmer part of the year by tossing out the old and welcoming in the new, but everywhere you look it just seems like things are going awry: there's a commotion blocking the bridge into town, the baker's got a fruit-related conundrum, and the old lady on the edge of town is having a wasp problem. What are the local book club/trouble investigators, the Inkwell Club, to do? Why, pitch in and help of course! Surely there's nothing more sinister going on here, right?
Your narrator for this adventure is Phil Ulrich, and Ravenhome's resident nosy problemselves and lore chasers are:
* Joe Perez as Daisuke, a studious capybara-person from the local hot spring with a secret talent for water magic
* Trish Olson (AwkwardishPanda) as Meadow, a traveling diviner who sees omens and portents in the stars
* Kameron (Tetsemi) as Tom, a young and slightly-cursed runaway lad who tends to dive in head-first without thinking
* Matt Rossi as Sorena, a former bear cub polymorphed into a blacksmith's apprentice, torn between two worlds
* Liz Harper as Selby, the somewhat overworked town alchemist (and her loyal beast of a hound dog, Ollie)
This is the first in a three-part series of Legend in the Mist -- watch for new episodes every Monday! If you think this game sounds fun, you should be able to pick up your own copy from Son of Oak in the very near future!
The music in this episode is by Phat Phrog Studios -- "Mana Malt," from the Bard's Rest collection.

Heat. Heat.
0:30
Hello and welcome to Tavern Watch plays,
0:32
where instead of just talking about role
0:34
playing games for a change, we play
0:36
them. Uh this week we're going to be
0:38
revisiting uh Legend in the Mist. Uh we
0:41
played this game a while back when it
0:42
was in pre-release and now we are going
0:45
to be uh playing the official final
0:48
version which is coming out for
0:49
Kickstarter backers uh as we record
0:51
this. Um, we're going to we're going to
0:54
hold off on introducing our adventures
0:55
for a minute. We're going to jump right
0:56
into a little adventure and let
0:57
everybody bring their character in at
0:58
the time that it makes sense. But, uh,
1:01
uh, for now, we're going to visit the
1:03
humble village of Raven Holm. Uh,
1:06
although the last cold of winter is
1:08
still in the air this morning, the
1:09
people of Ravenholm are unusually
1:11
active. There's a sort of tension in the
1:13
air, the good kind. Anticipation for the
1:15
spring renewal celebration, which is
1:17
happening tonight. Uh, spring renewal
1:20
every year is the first outdoor event
1:22
after winter in Raven Home. It's an
1:24
opportunity to finally, you know, get
1:25
out and have some fun with all your
1:26
loved ones, get out under the open sky
1:28
and the stars while the weather is nice.
1:30
Uh, but first, there's some work to be
1:32
done. Preparing the food, setting the
1:34
tables, raking the village green, and
1:35
more. One important job is to collect
1:38
things that are to be discarded.
1:41
Normally, Raven Home is a small village
1:43
where things get repaired or things get
1:44
reused. Not a lot of things get thrown
1:46
away, but every year, um, people
1:49
collect, you know, clothes that are
1:51
deemed too worn to repair or furniture
1:53
too broken to fix or things like that,
1:54
and they bring them to the discarded
1:56
cart. And every year, the contents of
1:59
the cart are spilled over the edge of
2:01
Skunk Glenn to symbolize renewal, moving
2:03
on from the past and onto the future.
2:06
It's a Raven home tradition that's as
2:07
old as the village itself. And but
2:09
you've heard some rumors that this year
2:10
the tradition itself might be undergoing
2:12
a little bit of a renewal. Uh, and so
2:15
we're gonna dive in one by one with each
2:17
of our uh, adventurers and find out what
2:19
they're doing this morning to prepare
2:20
for the spring renewal celebration. And
2:23
we will start with uh, Joe Perez. Joe,
2:26
you want to tell us who you're playing
2:28
and uh, how your character is prepping
2:30
for the spring renewal festival?
2:33
>> Uh, sure. Uh, I'm playing uh, Daisuki.
2:37
Uh, I am a lovable, fuzzy little cabby
2:41
bear man. Uh, and honestly, probably
2:44
what Dauki is doing right now as far as
2:46
preparation goes, cuz he wouldn't think
2:48
of anything other than this, is he's
2:50
recording everything. This is what he
2:52
does. Um, he's got like this, it looks
2:55
like a a ledger that was probably used
2:58
or intended for use at uh his the the
3:01
hot springs that his family runs for the
3:03
the the town. Um, but he has definitely
3:06
repurposed it to essentially be like
3:09
this giant scratch pad where he's
3:10
recording like, okay, well, this person
3:13
in the village is getting rid of this
3:14
thing and this person in the village is
3:16
getting rid of this thing and uh, you
3:18
know, just kind of making a whole note
3:19
of it so that, you know, for it's
3:21
recorded for posterity because he firmly
3:23
believes that if it's not written down,
3:25
you will at one point forget about it
3:27
and then it will be as if it never
3:28
existed and he can't really cen that.
3:32
Out of curiosity, what thing is uh
3:35
Desauki bringing to throw away? Because
3:36
it is considered bad luck to not throw
3:38
out anything. Most people will at least
3:40
bring a token item.
3:41
>> Uh I think he's bringing like a broken
3:43
quill uh like an incill that he he's had
3:46
that he's definitely worn the nib to the
3:49
point where it is no longer cutable uh
3:52
and is going to release it and let it go
3:54
as his token his token item.
3:57
>> Sounds good. Uh so you arrive at the
4:01
village square. Uh, also arriving is Liz
4:03
Harper's character. Liz, uh, you want to
4:05
tell us about Selby?
4:07
>> Uh, hello. I am playing Selby
4:10
Greenheart. She is the daughter of the
4:13
village alchemist. And,
4:16
uh, her when her mother passed away, she
4:19
has been attempting to run the shop. She
4:22
was out traveling and learning about
4:24
herbs and medicine and came back home.
4:27
And now, wow, running running the shop
4:31
is a lot of this is a lot of work, guys.
4:34
This is actually a lot of work. And uh
4:36
that's that's Selby for you. She also
4:39
has a a very a very large fluffy dog
4:42
that is usually by her side. His name is
4:45
Olly.
4:47
>> We love Olly. And Olly is already the
4:49
main character of the story. Uh Selby,
4:51
what is uh what is Selby bringing to
4:52
Throwaway at the Spring Renewal
4:54
Festival?
4:55
I think she's bringing an old ledger
4:58
book. Um like uh just an old list of
5:01
like uh you know this date sold this
5:04
thing to this person and just notes of
5:08
all of these things that uh
5:11
she's got years and years of records and
5:13
she's kind of held on to them out of
5:17
nostalgia, you know, just just they're
5:19
full of memories, but they're also they
5:21
just take up space and she's like, I
5:24
know I have to okay, I got to get rid of
5:26
something. I but I need all of this
5:28
stuff, but I've got to get rid of I and
5:30
just kind of trying to say, let's leave
5:33
this thing in the past. This is gone.
5:36
This is not And she's she's taken one of
5:38
the old ledger books and she's going to
5:40
say goodbye to it. We're moving. We're
5:43
moving forward. We can do this. We can
5:45
We can say goodbye. This is an old book.
5:47
It's fine. It's fine. I I can do this.
5:51
>> All righty. Uh next up, uh let's hear
5:54
from Matt Rossy.
5:57
Howdy. I'm playing Serena, who is the
6:01
apprentice to uh Haythan, who is the
6:04
town blacksmith. He's getting older. And
6:07
for the past four years, every every
6:09
spring and summer and most of the
6:11
autumn, I come down from where my family
6:14
lives and I serve as his apprentice.
6:16
life. I'm at the point now where I'm I'm
6:20
16, so I'm starting to think about, you
6:22
know, this apprenticeship isn't going to
6:24
last forever, but for right now, I'm
6:26
just doing the typical tasks and
6:29
anything that needs doing that isn't
6:30
physically capable of doing anymore. I
6:32
assume there's some kind of market
6:33
involved in this.
6:35
Like people don't just show up, they
6:37
also have like stalls and so forth, or
6:39
is it just a f is it just kind of a
6:40
festival and ritual?
6:42
>> It's just a festival. There is uh
6:44
generally uh during the day, everyone
6:46
kind of prepares for the party this
6:47
evening. Uh gathers all your goods and
6:49
you'll pack them into the discarded
6:50
cart. Um and then uh this evening uh in
6:54
the midst of the festivities, everything
6:56
will be dumped over the hill into skunk
6:58
Glenn. I will have spent pretty much my
7:01
morning making sure that the uh smithy
7:03
and and the forge were clean and reput
7:05
in good order. Um, since we're going to
7:07
be at the ritual, I would have made sure
7:09
it was all t nothing is lit. So, you
7:13
don't want to come back to the forge
7:14
being on fire. That's that's really not
7:16
good. I didn't understand fire for a
7:18
while, but I'm very interested in making
7:21
now. Um, in terms of what I'm going to
7:24
be discarding, I am carrying a set of
7:27
four bear claws. Uh, they're they're
7:31
from they're pretty obvious. No, he's
7:35
throwing up pastry.
7:36
>> Thank you, Joe. That's where I went.
7:40
>> No. Much as like if someone says, "I'm
7:41
going to kill you with my bare hands."
7:43
You're like, "You got bare hand?"
7:45
>> Regardless,
7:46
>> um, these are the claws of a bear.
7:47
They're smallalish. Uh, they're from a
7:49
yearling, and I don't talk about them,
7:53
but I'm I'm holding them like in my
7:56
hand, and I'm looking at the discards
7:58
and looking at them and looking at the
8:00
discards. So, I'm thinking about it.
8:02
clearly not necessarily excited about
8:04
it, but I do understand the ritual is
8:06
important to people
8:08
and otherwise I'm just wandering around.
8:11
>> All right. Well, you can think about
8:12
that a little longer. Uh we'll meet our
8:15
next character now. Uh Cameron, tell us
8:17
about your character.
8:19
>> So, my character is Tomlin. Goes by Tom
8:23
and he is a runaway. uh got into some
8:27
trouble that he didn't want to face the
8:31
consequences for and so ran away to this
8:34
village and really doesn't have two
8:38
coins to rub together. So he is
8:40
currently uh going through all the back
8:43
alleys looking for something that
8:47
someone discarded that he can contribute
8:50
to the festival.
8:55
All right. I'm sure there's something
8:56
you can find. Uh hopefully that person
8:58
did actually want it to be thrown away,
9:00
but uh you know, we can worry about we
9:02
can worry about that later. Uh last but
9:05
not least, we have uh someone who's not
9:06
always in the village, but uh is here
9:08
for the ceremony. Uh Trish, tell us
9:10
about your character.
9:11
>> Uh yeah, so Meadow is probably not quite
9:16
in the square. She's probably in her
9:18
cart. Uh the sun is bad. doesn't like
9:22
that it's daytime and she has to be
9:24
outside. So, she's probably like just
9:26
kind of finishing up some of her morning
9:28
stuff that she has to take care of as
9:30
part of this where she's been like
9:33
talking to a bunch of people in the
9:34
village lot getting all of the news
9:36
because over the next couple of days she
9:38
has to start like breaking out all of
9:39
her books and trying to figure out like
9:42
when are going to be the best days to
9:43
plant, what's the weather going to be
9:45
like for the next several months, that
9:46
kind of thing. like she's a diviver so
9:48
she's really starting to get like all of
9:49
her information together but she's
9:51
probably like in the process of putting
9:53
on this massive massive sun hat that's
9:56
probably as wide as she is and she's
9:57
pretty wide and pretty short. Um, and
10:00
she's got like a handful of just like
10:02
really really groy, run-down cleaning
10:06
rags because part of her culture is they
10:09
use and reuse and reuse and reuse until
10:11
stuff is like absolutely has to get
10:12
gone. And it's just a pile of like stuff
10:15
that is just
10:17
the worst of the worst that needs to go
10:20
at this point. Cannot be salvaged. holes
10:22
in all of it, pieces of old clothing,
10:24
like that kind of stuff that's just been
10:26
used to scrub and clean and everything
10:28
else that just needs to go.
10:32
>> All righty. Uh, okay. So, each of you is
10:36
kind of at or near uh in Meadow's case,
10:39
the village square uh when which is uh
10:44
to kind of establish it in position, the
10:45
village square is obviously in the
10:47
middle of the middle of the village,
10:48
right in front of the village hall. Um,
10:51
and uh, around the time you all are
10:53
arriving, uh, Alderman Beaks, uh, comes
10:57
out. He's a man in his 50s, uh, crows
11:01
feet, uh, but a constant smile. Uh, he's
11:04
kind of a jovial guy and, uh, he's been
11:07
talking to a number of the villagers
11:09
today and is, uh, there he's he's kind
11:14
of looking around and he spots the four
11:17
or five of you and is like, "Ah, thank
11:19
goodness." And I think the first person
11:21
he's going to uh he's going to going to
11:24
go to each of you in turn. I'd say
11:26
probably the first person he spots is
11:27
Serena because she is kind of hard to
11:28
miss. Uh and he says, "Serena, thank
11:31
goodness. Uh we need some help this
11:33
morning setting up uh the festival.
11:35
Would you mind uh do you mind getting
11:37
involved? And uh if so,
11:40
>> what do you need?"
11:42
>> Uh so I just heard from Hayan. Obviously
11:45
you all have the forge in good
11:46
condition. Didn't leave the forge on at
11:48
home. And he kind of laughs. He says,
11:49
"But uh uh
11:50
>> wait, did I leave the forge on?"
11:53
>> No.
11:53
>> Oh, I left the forge on.
11:55
>> No,
11:55
>> no, I didn't leave the forge on.
11:56
>> Oh, you're fine. You wouldn't do that.
11:58
He kind of pats you on there. He says,
11:59
"You're responsible enough by now." He
12:00
says, "But uh no, this is a much simpler
12:02
problem." Apparently, he's having issues
12:03
getting some of the uh getting the uh
12:06
the stakes that are supposed to hold the
12:07
banner for the party uh to uh to stay.
12:11
Something about the quality of the
12:13
stakes. Not sure. Um if you wouldn't
12:15
mind helping him out, that'd be great.
12:17
That is why I exist.
12:19
>> All right. Kind of pat you on the arm
12:21
again because you're 7 feet tall and
12:23
he's not. Kind of send you on your way.
12:27
Um
12:28
>> I'll give him a nod and go find Hayan to
12:30
see what the deal is.
12:32
>> All right, we'll get over there in a
12:33
second. Uh next he'll uh kind of meet
12:37
next will be Selby and Ali heading into
12:40
the town square. And he kind of Selby,
12:41
thank goodness. He says, "I know this is
12:45
uh this might be a little outside your
12:48
your wheelhouse, but uh Auntie
12:49
Ellsworth, you you know Ellsworth out on
12:51
out on the edge of town.
12:52
>> Um
12:53
>> of course,
12:55
>> she sent she sent somebody into town to
12:58
say that she was having some issues with
13:00
her discarded item. Uh there's she with
13:03
with getting her item for the festival.
13:04
I don't I don't know what that is, but
13:07
you know, you're if if you could help
13:09
her out, that'd be Would you mind doing
13:11
that for me?
13:12
>> I'll I'll go see what I can do.
13:14
>> I appreciate that. And he leans down and
13:16
pets Olly and uh slips a small uh piece
13:19
of jerky out of his pocket and sneaks it
13:21
to Olly.
13:23
>> Olly definitely goes like
13:27
Beak Beaks knows how to grab a dog.
13:30
>> Come on, Ollie. Let's go see what's
13:32
happening.
13:33
All right. Uh, let's see. Tom, you're
13:37
Tom is probably at least familiar to
13:38
Beaks. I like to think I think most of
13:40
the people in the village are probably
13:41
at least used to Tom. Even if Tom is
13:42
maybe uh too proud to ask for help, a
13:45
lot of people understand that he he
13:47
needs it. Um, Alderman Beaks will kind
13:50
of uh catch you running around Tom and
13:52
ask you, "Hey, um, Tom, the the pie
13:54
maker Wick, are you do you know Tom?
13:58
Does Tom know Wick?"
14:00
>> Uh, yes. Yeah. Yeah. The good smelling.
14:04
Yeah. Pies in the window. Yeah. Yeah.
14:06
Yeah.
14:06
>> Yep. Wick runs a bakery in town. He says
14:08
uh if you if you get a chance today, uh
14:11
you're young, you're quick. Uh Wick is o
14:14
just overwhelmed prepping for the party
14:16
today. Do you think you could uh throw
14:18
in a hand over at the bakery? He says,
14:20
"Maybe there'll be a pie. Maybe there'll
14:21
be a pie in it for you."
14:22
>> And Tom immediately just runs.
14:26
>> Tom's just gone.
14:28
>> Gone. Gone. As soon as he says there
14:31
might be a pie in it, Tom is gone.
14:33
>> All right. Uh
14:36
and with uh Dauki uh Beaks kind of uh
14:41
brings you aside and he says, "Hey, um
14:45
if he says you're you're good, I guess."
14:48
He says, "You're you're good with uh
14:51
you're good with water, that kind of
14:53
thing, right?"
14:55
>> Uh yeah. Yeah. Yes. My my my family and
14:58
I are are good with water. Yes. Yes.
14:59
Yes.
15:00
>> Right. Uh he says, "Now, I don't know if
15:02
this is related to the stream or not,
15:04
but the bridge into town, uh you know,
15:07
that the foresters will be using to come
15:08
in, there's some kind of congestion, uh
15:11
on the bridge. Um I don't know if it's
15:14
water, I don't know if it's people, but
15:16
um just in case there's something that
15:19
could be related to the stream, would
15:21
you mind looking into that for me?" Uh
15:22
Dauki,
15:24
>> of course, Alderman. Of course, I I can
15:26
I can I can take a look at that. Yes.
15:28
Yeah. Yeah.
15:29
Thank you so much.
15:31
Uh, and the last one, I guess he'll have
15:32
to he'll he'll go to Meadows Cart. I
15:34
assume your people probably have their
15:36
uh probably your you probably have your
15:37
cart set up near the uh village square.
15:40
So, there'll be kind of a knock on the
15:41
door of your cart or of your uh your
15:44
wagon meadow. Um,
15:46
>> she'll open the door. Oh, hello.
15:48
>> Yeah.
15:49
>> Three weeks.
15:50
>> Oh. Oh,
15:52
>> seeds. Seeds in three weeks.
15:54
>> He's like He's like patting around
15:55
looking for something to write that
15:56
down. He goes, "Three weeks. I can
15:57
remember three weeks. He says, "Thank
15:59
you." Um, would you mind uh he says,
16:02
"I've I've got some other tasks to
16:04
handle. Would you mind helping my wife
16:06
with some wreaths?"
16:09
>> Sure. Um, I can help out.
16:11
>> He says, "I know it's a little below
16:13
your your stature as, you know, a
16:15
fortune teller and but we would
16:17
appreciate the help if you don't mind."
16:18
>> Oh, and there's nothing that's below my
16:21
stature. I'm all we're here to help.
16:22
That's what we do.
16:24
>> And he says, "Oh, thank goodness." And
16:26
of course, you're all invited to the
16:27
festival tonight since you're uh since
16:29
you you've been here most years. So,
16:33
>> all right.
16:33
>> Yes, we've all brought our things to
16:35
contribute as well. So,
16:38
>> all right. So, with each of you, uh with
16:41
a little task to involve to help prep
16:43
for the party tonight, uh let's go
16:45
around one by one and see what the
16:48
problem is. We're actually going to
16:49
start with Tom.
16:51
Tom, you're heading over to the house
16:54
that uh doubles as uh the bakery in
16:57
town, uh home to Wick, the pie maker,
17:00
and you you you smell the familiar
17:03
smells of baking, but as soon as you set
17:06
foot in the door,
17:08
this house is a complete mess.
17:11
Um
17:13
like there's there's filling thickening
17:16
in iron pots that's still bubbling.
17:18
There are crusts on a long wooden bench
17:20
for, you know, for pies. But all of them
17:22
are are they're empty, most notably.
17:26
And there is there's flour absolutely
17:30
everywhere.
17:31
Um, and there's the smell of sugar and
17:34
spice and a very sweaty baker filling
17:36
the air. Um, and and next to the door,
17:40
uh, uh, next on the wall next to the
17:43
door is the item that Wick intends to
17:45
take to the cart when he gets a chance.
17:47
uh which is uh a broken table.
17:50
>> But uh
17:51
>> Wick looks up when you walk in and he's
17:54
completely flushed. He steps in. He
17:56
says, "Oh, thank goodness." He says,
17:58
"All the fruit in the pantry rotted
18:00
overnight. What am I supposed to do for
18:02
pies?" And his apprentice kind of slides
18:04
in next to you and whispers with relief,
18:06
"Oh, thank goodness there's some up
18:07
here."
18:10
>> His apprentice Bran is probably about
18:12
your age. Um right.
18:14
>> So, uh yeah. So Wick and Bran need your
18:17
help with some kind of solution because
18:18
all the fruit in Wick's pantry rotted
18:20
overnight. What do you do?
18:24
>> Uh Tom just
18:27
Tom doesn't even hesitate. He's like,
18:31
"Uh,
18:33
so we need new fruit. Can we just go ask
18:37
one of the vendors for fruit?" He kind
18:41
of racks his brain. He says there might
18:43
still be some apples at the the orchard
18:46
just outside of town, but uh
18:48
>> right. And Tom's gone.
18:51
>> All right, Tom. Tom is out there. Uh
18:54
okay, so
18:56
>> just just so everyone knows, one of one
18:59
of his weakness tags for his personality
19:01
is axe before thinking. So this is
19:05
completely on gone.
19:07
>> Tom is out there and gone. Okay, so Tom
19:09
is going to get to roll our first uh our
19:12
first roll for the game. Uh as Tom is
19:14
dashing out of town to grab these uh
19:16
apples and then bring them back. Uh so
19:19
we're going to go ahead and do our first
19:22
uh quick roll. So in this case, uh in
19:25
this game, uh your characters are made
19:27
up of tags, both positive and negative.
19:29
Things like quick reflexes or nerves of
19:32
steel, but then also weakness tags like
19:34
acts before thinking and no formal
19:36
training. Um, and so what we do when you
19:40
make a role in this game is we kind of
19:41
describe what we're trying to do, which
19:42
in your case is run out and pick a bunch
19:44
of apples for uh Wick to make pies and
19:46
get back without losing them. Um, and
19:52
then we're going to add up the positive
19:54
ones, subtract the negative ones, roll
19:56
2d6, and add the that number which is
19:58
called your power. So, let's look at
20:01
your character sheet and see what ones
20:03
you think might apply.
20:05
Uh, so I think he's already applied the
20:08
weakness tag axe before thinking. So we
20:10
have a minus one there.
20:13
>> And he does have quick reflexes and
20:16
quick on his feet. So I think those two
20:20
I think the, you know, the always up for
20:22
a dare would be pushing it. But I think
20:24
those two, the quick reflexes and the
20:26
quick on his feet would get him
20:29
>> to the orchard. And then maybe if
20:32
there's no ladder or the ones that are
20:35
all at like normal height have been
20:38
picked, he may use his staff to uh try
20:42
and knock the apples out to uh to gather
20:45
those. But that just depends if if
20:47
that's needed.
20:48
>> No, no, I like that. Go ahead with that.
20:50
So that's uh I believe we had one
20:52
weakness tag, acts before thinking, and
20:54
three uh positive tags for total power
20:56
of plus two.
20:57
>> All right.
21:00
Uh, this is auspicious. Wow. All right.
21:05
Uh, so the first roll of the game, so
21:08
that's a six and a four. So that's 10
21:10
plus uh the two would be 12.
21:14
>> All right. Uh, a 12 in this game is a
21:16
complete success with no consequences.
21:19
Um, in this in this case, I think the
21:21
owner of the orchard, uh, an older guy,
21:24
uh, named Mi, I think Mie sees you
21:26
knocking apples down, uh, and he starts
21:28
to come out and scold you, but you can
21:30
quickly explain, "Oh, these are for
21:31
Wick. He had a problem with the fruit."
21:33
And he not only help, he not only
21:34
doesn't stop you, he gets you a basket.
21:38
Um, so you don't So you don't have to
21:39
like carry all these back in your arms
21:41
or your backpack or anything like you
21:42
you have you have a bushel basket for
21:44
your apples.
21:45
>> Oh, good. Because I hadn't thought of
21:47
that.
21:48
Exactly. Uh part of that acts before
21:51
thinking thing. Yeah.
21:52
>> So uh yeah. So you are you you can
21:56
easily make it back uh with your bushel
22:00
of apples and you go sprinting. Tom goes
22:02
sprinting through the town uh with his
22:04
his apples. Uh and you make it back to
22:08
Wix. And honestly Wick is thoroughly
22:12
impressed at how quickly you got back.
22:14
Um
22:15
he he sends uh and he'll say he'll kind
22:19
of nod at the table. He says, "Would you
22:20
mind taking that to the center of town
22:21
for me?" His move his mood is visibly
22:23
improved, but he still has pies to make.
22:26
>> Uh take the the broken table or
22:28
>> Yeah, the broken table for the
22:30
>> Okay.
22:31
>> And he's gone.
22:32
>> Yep. And with that, you are
22:35
just picturing Tom sprinting through
22:37
town with a table held over his head.
22:38
>> I mean, that's pretty much Yeah,
22:40
exactly.
22:42
>> All right. So, uh, with that image in
22:45
our minds, we'll turn next to Meadow
22:47
helping, uh, Alderman Beaks's wife Reev,
22:50
uh, with the wreaths.
22:52
Uh, so Alderman Beaks lives in a little
22:55
house not far from the village hall. Um,
22:57
and when Meadow arrives, uh, with her
23:00
big sun hat on, uh, Reev meets you
23:02
outside with a worried look on her face.
23:05
Um, and she says, "It's not well, it's
23:07
sort of about the Reeds. It's Brownie,
23:10
our dog. He's gone. Not unusual. Also,
23:13
not the issue. Um, he took the wreath I
23:16
made. Uh, I made it from discarded junk
23:19
to be burned. I thought it'd be a nice
23:21
decoration. Maybe next year everyone
23:23
will be Maybe next year everyone will be
23:24
doing it. But I guess Brownie liked it a
23:26
little too much. Um, do you think you
23:29
could help me find Brownie and bring him
23:30
bring that wreath back?
23:33
>> Yes, of course. Do you know kind of
23:35
which way he went?
23:37
Um, and she'll kind of point out uh
23:40
she'll kind of point in the direction of
23:42
town that leads behind the village hall,
23:44
which is where the party tonight will
23:45
eventually take place, and also where
23:46
the cliff down to Skunk Glenn is. She'll
23:49
say he he ran off towards ran off that
23:51
way. I hope he didn't run towards Skunk
23:54
Glenn Gods. Um,
23:59
just say that he he ran off that way.
24:01
So,
24:03
>> okay. Um, are you coming with me to see
24:07
if he'll come to you? Cuz he doesn't
24:08
know me that well. But I'm If not, it's
24:10
fine. I'm going to guess he probably
24:12
went towards Skunk Glenn because trash.
24:16
>> She says, "Yeah, we can um" She says,
24:17
"Yeah, I'll go with you. Uh he he'll
24:18
come to me. Uh we'll just have to, you
24:21
know, I just Yeah, she's she moves a
24:24
little slower than you, but she'll come
24:25
with you if you need her."
24:27
>> Yeah, I I will go with her. I mean, I I
24:30
have plenty of stuff where like I'm well
24:33
traveled. I know the way. I probably
24:35
know all of like the shortcuts and stuff
24:37
that a dog could probably get through.
24:40
>> Okay.
24:41
>> Uh so, as the two of you are kind of
24:43
walking through town towards Skunk
24:45
Glenn, before you can make it, you
24:46
actually catch you actually spot Brownie
24:49
just like running through town, kind of
24:51
the same as Tom, come to think of it. Um
24:54
with a wreath uh in his mouth. And sure
24:56
enough, the wreath is in fact made of
24:58
junk. Uh she kind of points as he goes
25:00
by. There he goes. That's him. Stop him.
25:04
And he is just going. Um how do you want
25:08
to get this dog to stop running away
25:11
with this?
25:12
>> Man, I'm sure that Meadow just in
25:16
general always has snacks on her. She's
25:19
very round. What can I say? She's gonna
25:21
like dig around in her pockets and look
25:23
for like some jerky or something like on
25:27
her person that will like and just be
25:29
like, "Brownie, brownie, come here. We
25:31
got snacks."
25:33
>> She'll she'll say the treats word at the
25:35
risk of making my dogs bark in the other
25:37
room. She'll be like, "Treat."
25:39
>> Oh no. Uh well, we'll go ahead and do a
25:41
power roll to get away from the tr word
25:43
and stop your real life dogs from
25:44
barking. Uh so let's look at some
25:47
relevant tags here on Meadow's sheet.
25:50
Uh, I'll go ahead and say uh I'll
25:52
volunteer that the treat kind of sounds
25:54
like it might fall under help everyone
25:56
part of your caravan folk theme.
25:58
>> Yeah, I think there's that one, but also
26:01
I I wonder if her Heart of Gold stuff
26:03
cuz she is so like, you know,
26:05
>> super big smile and super, you know,
26:08
very sweet and lovable. So, I don't
26:10
know. I think either of them would work.
26:13
>> Well, that's the thing. We get that we
26:14
can add as many as we want that we think
26:16
are relevant. Yeah, I think Big Smile
26:17
and Carefree make perfect sense. Uh,
26:20
help everyone.
26:22
>> Okay. Uh,
26:23
>> I'm I'm looking at your negative tag and
26:25
unless you want to be bad at this
26:26
because of the sun, but I interpreted
26:28
that as mostly applying to your
26:29
divination.
26:30
>> It's mostly honestly I'd be willing to
26:32
take that as a minus one because she it
26:34
really is she can't see during the day
26:36
very well because they are night people.
26:39
>> Um, so really like that's why she's got
26:41
the big hat on and stuff is because
26:43
fantasy. We don't have sunglasses yet.
26:46
>> Nope. You have a big hat. She's got a
26:48
big hat.
26:49
>> Okay. So, same as so same as Tatsi.
26:51
That's three positive tags and one
26:53
weakness tag for a power of two. So, 2d6
26:56
plus two.
26:57
>> 2C 6 plus two. All right. Uh, I rolled a
27:01
six and a two plus a two for a 10.
27:03
>> All right. Uh, a 10. Also, perfect
27:06
success with no consequences. So, like
27:08
this dog hears the treat word and
27:11
immediately like skids to a halt almost
27:14
comically and just like trots back to
27:16
you. um and has to drop the wreath
27:18
because he wants to look up at you with
27:20
his big hound dog eyes and
27:23
>> he he's waiting for that treat.
27:25
>> I'm gonna keep keep his attention while
27:28
she picks up the wreath
27:29
>> with the treat and then just be like
27:31
gentle and just give it to him.
27:33
>> Perfect. Easy peasy. He takes the treat
27:35
from you. He's a very gentle boy. He's
27:36
not one of these dogs that, you know, to
27:38
get the treat. Um and she picks up the
27:40
wreath and she evaluates and she says,
27:42
"Well, it's a little dirty, but it was
27:44
made out of junk anyway." So, she kind
27:46
of laughs and she pats you on the Thank
27:48
you so much, dear.
27:49
>> You're welcome. And I just give him all
27:51
the scratches and I'm just giving him
27:52
love.
27:53
>> She says, "You'll be at the party
27:54
tonight." Of course. Right.
27:56
>> Yes, of course.
27:57
>> Wonderful.
27:59
All right. Next, uh we'll leave you
28:02
scratching a dog and we'll turn to
28:03
Selby. Selby, you are heading out
28:05
towards the edge of the village to help
28:07
Auntie Ellsworth, who lives, uh she's a
28:09
little lady who lives alone in a small
28:11
cottage on the edge of the village.
28:13
beautiful little cottage uh half covered
28:15
with ivy. Uh she has hand painted
28:17
flowers on the windows, wooden shutters.
28:20
Um and when you when you you knock on
28:22
the door, she'll let you in. And inside
28:24
her her cabinet is warm and comfortable.
28:26
Her cottage is warm on the inside.
28:27
Smells like chamomile and lavender in
28:29
there. And she kind of she kind of
28:32
gestures toward towards a folded chair
28:34
after she clears some quilts out of it.
28:36
And she gestures you to sit down. She
28:38
sits down across from you. Uh offers you
28:40
a cup of tea.
28:42
Oh, thank you. That's
28:44
>> Thank you. I heard you were having some
28:47
some trouble.
28:49
>> She kind of nods and she says, "Yes,
28:51
I've got uh kind of gesture outside
28:53
where um unlike this beautiful um
28:56
perfectly painted little cottage
28:57
outside, she has a shed that kind of
28:59
looks like it's on its last legs."
29:02
>> And she says, "Uh, I've got some broken
29:04
flower pots out in the shed and the
29:05
pieces are, you know, they're they're
29:07
not worth mending. Um too small." and
29:09
she says, "I wanted to throw away some
29:10
of those broken flower pots, but
29:12
unfortunately uh sometime between winter
29:15
and the beginning of spring, my shed has
29:17
been taken over by wasps."
29:19
>> Oh.
29:22
>> H.
29:23
>> And I I I can't get in there and out
29:26
without getting stung. Do you Do you
29:28
have any ideas?
29:30
I might have some kind of alchemical
29:33
concoction that would calm them down or
29:38
quietly murder them.
29:42
>> And she kind of laughs and she says,
29:43
"Sounds exactly like the kind of thing
29:45
your mother would say."
29:49
>> Oh, that's always that's always nice to
29:51
hear. Um
29:52
>> All right.
29:53
>> I I think I can take care of this. Yeah.
29:56
>> And we can get you out to the festival.
29:58
>> Perfect. So, so what are you uh what are
30:00
you brewing up to solve this wasp issue?
30:05
>> Um
30:08
yeah, I mean I think it's some kind of
30:10
some kind of bug repellent that's uh
30:14
maybe it's something her mother came up
30:16
with because they do have wasps in this
30:18
area that can that can do this. they
30:21
wind up nesting in inconvenient places.
30:25
And so you need kind of
30:27
>> uh she probably has a little a special
30:29
spray bottle for things like this. Uh
30:32
she just has to She may even have some
30:35
back in the shop that's already made
30:37
because this is maybe not uncommon.
30:40
>> Okay. I was wondering if it was like a
30:41
spray repellent or if something like
30:42
maybe you're like smoking them out with
30:44
that kind of thing. So Okay.
30:46
>> Okay. Well, it's your turn to roll some
30:48
dice now. Uh,
30:50
>> so sooner or later
30:52
>> it it happens to all of us. So, let's
30:56
see. Uh, which of your tags do you think
30:58
applies here?
30:59
>> Yeah, that's that's a good question
31:00
because I've come up with something that
31:02
I somehow
31:05
>> I don't.
31:06
>> So, one thing we missed when we played
31:08
this game last time, which is relevant
31:10
now, is that the the name of your theme,
31:13
so like your origin theme's name is
31:16
Village Apothecary. Village apothecary
31:18
is actually a tag you could use. So
31:21
>> So maybe village apothecary maybe
31:24
inventive.
31:26
>> Sounds good. Yeah.
31:28
>> Uh to kind of get all of this together.
31:32
Um
31:34
you might have delicate materials might
31:36
be a weakness on this
31:39
>> because that has something to do with my
31:41
alchemical abilities.
31:44
>> Okay. I wasn't I wasn't going to throw
31:46
in both that and overlook danger, but I
31:48
felt like one or the other was probably
31:50
appropriate.
31:51
>> One or the other.
31:53
>> This isn't dangerous. I've handled this.
31:55
I know what I'm doing probably. I've
31:57
done this before. It's totally fine.
31:59
It's It's fine. It's fine. I I brewed
32:02
this up and I know it's just right. It's
32:05
This is just She's having this
32:06
conversation in her head. Or maybe with
32:08
Olly. Actually, I bet she I bet she has
32:11
conversations like this with Olly all
32:12
the time. And Ollie's just looking up at
32:14
her.
32:15
>> Mhm. Just like, "Yep." Uh-huh. Yep.
32:18
>> Yeah.
32:19
>> Okay. Yeah. Definitely.
32:20
>> So, village bath carry and inventive on
32:22
the positive side. Delicate materials on
32:24
the negative side gives you a 2d6 plus
32:26
one.
32:27
>> Okay.
32:31
>> And that's a seven on the dice. So,
32:34
eight.
32:35
>> Okay. Eight is a success with
32:38
consequences. So I think uh so I think
32:41
what happens is you so you do succeed.
32:43
Your your uh your your repellent works.
32:47
Uh the wasps come uh you know as as
32:51
wasps do when you attempt to repel them
32:52
come swarming out of this shed. Um
32:57
>> I
32:59
think what I think what ends up
33:00
happening is uh a few of them uh they
33:03
are mad. Um and I think they are going
33:06
to get you on the way out. Liz, you are
33:07
going to add the status stung to.
33:10
>> Okay.
33:11
>> Uh, just note somewhere that you have
33:12
that.
33:14
>> Uh, statuses are
33:16
>> That wasn't
33:17
>> That wasn't so bad. I can I can deal
33:19
with this. I have a sal for this. Uh,
33:21
yeah, it's fine.
33:23
>> It's fine.
33:25
>> Uh, for the folks playing at home,
33:26
statuses are kind of like our characters
33:28
tags except they could be positive or
33:30
negative, and they have a rating, which
33:31
means they can be improved or uh gotten
33:34
rid of. Uh, in this case, uh, Selby
33:37
probably just needs a a rest to use some
33:40
savves to lower or remove uh, the status
33:43
of this stung uh, status. But if she
33:46
does something where being stung by bees
33:48
is relevant, then it can count against
33:50
her. So, but uh, it doesn't it doesn't
33:52
undo your success, which in this case
33:54
was getting rid of those wasps. So,
33:55
congratulations.
33:57
Um, Auntie Ellsworth will kind of come
33:59
out behind you and she's kind of fussing
34:02
over your kind of fussing over your wasp
34:04
stings.
34:05
Um, but she's
34:08
>> I I bet Olly can help haul these pots
34:11
down to the down to the festival.
34:14
>> Oh, absolutely. You all can you all can
34:15
come up with some kind of contraption to
34:17
uh
34:18
>> Yeah.
34:18
>> tie to him and rig these these broken
34:20
flower pots up and uh so you and Auntie
34:22
Ellsworth can make your way back into
34:24
town with Ali.
34:27
All right, Dauki, you are headed out to
34:30
the bridge uh the old bridge over the
34:32
stream outside of town.
34:35
Uh, I regret to inform you unfortunately
34:36
that it is not a water-based problem.
34:38
Uh, you can hear two you can hear the
34:41
the Dalia fighting before you reach
34:43
them. Dalia Furrows and Dalia Mulesca
34:47
are the heads of two of the farming uh
34:49
families uh here in Raven Home. And they
34:53
are standing on this old bridge in the
34:56
middle of just an allout shouting match.
34:59
Uh, and as you get closer, you realize
35:01
that they are fighting over whose family
35:04
tablecloth should be on the main table
35:07
at the festival tonight. And uh, Promise
35:11
uh, Promise Furrows Mlesca, the daughter
35:13
of one daughter, Dalia, and
35:15
daughter-in-law the other one, is kind
35:17
of standing between her mother and her
35:18
mother-in-law, just looking completely
35:21
at a loss here.
35:23
Uh, the Dalas have kind of devolved into
35:25
name calling. Um, and there are
35:28
villagers stuck on both side of the
35:29
bridge because the three people on this
35:31
bridge are enough to completely block
35:34
it. Um, this is the situation you find
35:36
yourself in. Um,
35:38
>> okay.
35:38
>> What do you do?
35:40
>> Questions. Uh, as I'm surveying the
35:42
situation. So, obviously, uh, I see the
35:45
younger the younger the child in the
35:47
middle of them trying to calm them down.
35:50
And you said this, they're in the middle
35:51
of a bridge.
35:52
>> Yes. It's uh just imagine kind of a
35:54
small wooden bridge over a stream. Uh
35:57
and it's Dalia and Dalia on one side and
35:59
then uh Promise who is uh 18 or 19 kind
36:03
of in the middle.
36:04
>> Okay. Um how far above the water is the
36:07
bridge?
36:09
>> I love this line of questioning. Um
36:13
probably no more than six or eight feet.
36:17
>> Excellent. Um, I think uh Dauki is going
36:20
to try to catch the uh the attention of
36:22
the younger uh kind of like sheepishly
36:25
like wave uh and then kind of like point
36:28
down at the water and then tell her to
36:31
like make hand motions for her to back
36:33
out of there.
36:34
>> Yeah. So, she spots you waving at her
36:35
and immediately runs out because this
36:37
looks like someone who actually wants
36:39
her attention and is her chance to get
36:40
out from in the middle of her mother and
36:42
her mother-in-law and she kind of
36:44
crouches down. Are you How tall is Daui?
36:46
Uh, Daisuki is like five flat. Like he's
36:49
he's maybe like 51 on a good day.
36:52
>> Okay. So, she's not like she's not like
36:54
crouching down to address you or
36:55
anything, but she kind of leaves. She's
36:56
like, "Oh, thank goodness. They're
36:57
they've been going on like this for an
36:59
for an hour."
37:00
>> Um,
37:00
>> but what did you What were you pointing
37:01
at? What about the river?
37:03
>> Yeah. Um, I I might be able to to shock
37:06
some sense into them. Um, but you're
37:08
going to have to be ready to go and and
37:10
talk to them immediately after I do this
37:12
thing. And uh, you can't tell anybody
37:14
cuz if you do, I might get in trouble
37:15
with my parents. Is that is that okay?
37:17
And
37:17
>> she just laughs and she says, "If they
37:19
if you can get some sense into them,
37:20
that'll be the biggest miracle of the
37:22
day." And she says, "Your secret is safe
37:25
with me."
37:26
>> Cool. Uh Dauki reaches into his backpack
37:28
and takes out this river stick that uh
37:30
is essentially like his focus. Uh it's a
37:34
a piece of like ash that has been like,
37:36
you know, uh weatherworn and like
37:39
driftwoody and stuff like that. Uh, and
37:41
he kind of like takes it, grabs it,
37:45
focuses and and kind of like sits a
37:47
little bit. Uh, and I would like to
37:49
spray the heck out of both of them with
37:51
just a little bit of water from the uh
37:54
the stream below like directly in their
37:56
faces to shock them and to stop arguing.
37:59
Uh, I'd like to use uh water shape and
38:01
water adept here. Uh, but I do have the
38:03
question of how hot it is out today
38:05
because if I'm overheated, I'm going to
38:07
be taking a negative. Uh, so it's early
38:10
spring, like right after it's like it's
38:12
like right after uh it's like right
38:14
after winter ends. It's probably in like
38:16
the 60s, low7s at most.
38:19
>> Oh, yeah. I'm fine then.
38:20
>> Yeah, I don't think you're overheated
38:21
today.
38:22
>> Cool.
38:22
>> Um, also, you mentioned you can use your
38:24
you mentioned your ashtick. Your asht
38:26
stick is also a tag that you can use.
38:28
So,
38:28
>> I will absolutely
38:31
uh do that then. Um,
38:34
so that's what plus three total.
38:37
>> That's what I'm seeing. All right. 7
38:39
plus 3 is 10.
38:40
>> 7 plus 3 is 10. Perfect. So, uh,
38:42
describe describe what you're doing uh
38:44
to to shock some sense into them.
38:46
>> From both sides of the of the bridge,
38:49
like basically facing like getting
38:51
directly into their faces, you see these
38:52
like two little it's almost like little
38:54
water tornadoes start to form. Uh
38:57
they're very very tiny at first and then
38:58
these like thin threads of water uh
39:01
start creeping up towards the bridge and
39:03
then when they get to about head height
39:05
they literally bend 90° and spray them
39:07
in the water like a water bottle or
39:09
spray them in the face like a water
39:10
bottle.
39:12
>> I I think this works perfectly because
39:14
what this does is finally draw their
39:16
attention away from each other and they
39:18
are just standing there spluttering and
39:20
wet and they finally realize that
39:23
they've built up a crowd on each side of
39:25
the bridge. Uh because and now that
39:27
crowd on each side of the bridge is
39:29
laughing
39:30
>> and then usher the younger
39:32
>> promise immediately runs up and is like
39:34
mother let's go and like loops both of
39:38
the Dalia's arms and hers forcibly and
39:40
like scoots them off the bridge so
39:42
people can pass. Um traffic starts
39:45
flowing again which is good because some
39:46
of these people also had supplies that
39:48
are supposed to come to the party
39:49
tonight. This isn't just people who are,
39:51
you know, bringing stuff for the
39:52
festival. Like this is people who are
39:54
actually supposed to be at the festival
39:56
tonight with like food or tables or uh a
39:59
tablecloth. So, uh Promise ushers the
40:03
Dalia off to try and um have a more
40:06
rational discussion about whose
40:08
tablecloth should be on the table. Uh,
40:10
and then when the water starts flowing
40:13
and everybody's sort of like moving and
40:15
and or the people are flowing, uh,
40:16
Dauuki will kind of like walk over to
40:18
the river and just kind of like or the
40:19
stream and lean over and like pat it and
40:21
say thank you. Um, and then, you know, I
40:25
don't know what happens after that, but
40:26
he's he's definitely thanking the stream
40:28
for its service.
40:29
>> I think it I think it ripples in
40:31
response to your touch and then ripples
40:32
again even when you pull your hand back.
40:34
So, it's uh it's obvious that it is
40:36
answering you. Uh, and Promise kind of
40:39
mouths the words thank you to you as
40:41
she's uh ushering her mother and
40:43
mother-in-law away.
40:46
>> Gives a very a very fuzzy two thumbs up
40:48
and then starts heading back to town.
40:51
>> All right. Uh, and last but not least is
40:55
uh, Serena. Serena, you are heading back
40:57
to the forge to help uh, Hyphen. Is that
41:00
the
41:00
>> Han? Yeah,
41:01
>> Hayan. Right. Uh, Hayan is uh, standing
41:05
outside the forge.
41:07
Uh, and he's kind of So, he's got a
41:10
crate in front of him and he's kind of
41:12
standing there with his hands on his
41:14
hips and he honestly just looks kind of
41:15
lost.
41:18
>> I make a soft rumbling sound to indicate
41:20
that I'm there.
41:21
>> He looks up at you. Ah, Serena. Uh, it's
41:24
these. And he kind of gestures at this
41:25
crate, which you can see as you get
41:27
close, is full of uh stakes. He says,
41:30
"It's these dang stakes I bought from
41:32
that trader. Poor quality iron. Knew I
41:34
shouldn't have trusted him." Uh,
41:36
unfortunately with these crummy steaks,
41:38
I can't guarantee that the banner will
41:40
hold up.
41:42
>> I pick one up and kind of like feel feel
41:45
it.
41:46
>> Yeah.
41:46
>> How easy do I think it would be for me
41:48
to like break this thing?
41:50
>> Uh, you you do you think that it would
41:54
be a little bit of effort, but the
41:56
problem is you worry that that kind of
41:57
effort might be like, you know,
41:58
hammering the stakes in place to raise
42:00
the banner might be enough.
42:02
>> Yeah. Yeah.
42:04
And the problem is that the uh so
42:07
raising uh raising the two posts that
42:09
hold the main ceremony banner is an
42:10
early evening event the children look
42:12
forward to every year. And you know that
42:15
Hayan is he would be devastated uh to
42:18
disappoint the children.
42:22
>> Uh how much time do you have? You
42:24
probably have So it's morning. Um, and
42:28
the uh it's probably maybe 11:00 a.m.
42:31
Uh, the festival doesn't really begin
42:33
until sunset.
42:36
>> You know that little cappy person, the
42:40
the the one who's constantly writing
42:42
stuff down and talking?
42:43
>> Well, he's Dauuki, the one whose family
42:45
runs the uh the hot springs outside of
42:47
town. Yeah. Yeah.
42:48
>> He uh he was talking to me about water
42:51
at one point. I don't know why. I didn't
42:53
I didn't say anything to him, but he
42:55
just came up and talked to me about it
42:56
for 20 minutes. I I think he was trying
42:58
to be nice, but it's giving me an idea
43:01
here.
43:03
>> Oh, okay.
43:04
>> Can we heat up the forge again?
43:07
>> So, yeah, we can always heat it back up
43:08
when you when you got mud.
43:11
>> We only need about a third of these
43:15
to actually lift everything. You just
43:18
need like you only need like four total.
43:22
kind of nodding.
43:23
>> By themselves, they're useless.
43:26
But if we if we heat them all up and
43:29
hammer them repeatedly until the
43:31
impurities come out, we could actually
43:34
have you just fold it like the way the
43:36
water folds and it it pushes things out.
43:40
Uh it's like it's like if you got a fish
43:43
in there and you want to get the fish
43:45
out, you just sweep at it until you
43:47
knock it out. And and that's that's what
43:49
we'll do with the impurities, which
43:51
should give us actual relatively high
43:54
quality iron. And if we mix in some of
43:56
that that sto you've got, we could
43:58
actually turn into steel,
44:00
>> which should hold anything.
44:02
>> And he kind of says, "Well, it's
44:04
better." He just kind of shakes his head
44:06
to kind of clear his head. He says,
44:07
"Well, sounds like it's better than
44:08
standing here worrying about it, right?
44:10
Let's give it a shot."
44:12
Like I know he's he's old now. So it's
44:15
not this is not something that I should
44:17
leave for him to do because you know I'm
44:20
seven feet tall and gigantic armed and
44:21
he is an old man who is no longer
44:24
>> but he could he's smarter and he knows
44:26
the thing so he can stand there and tell
44:27
me what he sees and as I as I try and do
44:30
it if that makes sense.
44:31
>> Yeah, that sounds good. All right, so
44:34
let's make a roll. Uh what sheet geez
44:37
what tags on your sheet do you think uh
44:40
seem relevant here? Well, apprentice
44:42
blacksmith, which is one of my, you
44:45
know, and also reforging what can be
44:47
fixed.
44:48
>> Yep.
44:50
>> And also blacksmith hammer because I'll
44:52
be using my blacksmith hammer.
44:54
>> Okay.
44:54
>> So, yeah, those three. Uh,
44:57
>> however, I got a negative, which is the
45:00
despair of not knowing enough. And I
45:03
think in this case that would be in
45:04
there because I've never done this.
45:07
>> Like, I just made this up. Um, so I have
45:10
no idea if it'll work. I want it to
45:12
work, but So I'm going to say just two.
45:15
>> Okay.
45:15
>> On the roll.
45:16
>> That's fine. Uh, yeah. And since you
45:18
Yeah, just two.
45:23
>> Okay. Uh, that's a six and a one. So
45:26
that's a seven + 2 is nine.
45:28
>> All right. Sounds good. Uh, yeah. So I
45:32
think this will uh so this will work
45:34
because that is success with a
45:35
consequence. Um, and so what will
45:39
happen, uh, you and you and Hayan work
45:43
the, you know, work out the to get the
45:46
basically melt down these crappy, uh,
45:48
stakes and kind of combine them into
45:50
four good ones. Um, the only concern
45:54
that he has is that the banner posts are
45:55
designed for uh, three stakes or for
45:58
three stakes a piece. So, uh, he says
46:01
it'll hold as long as nobody starts, you
46:04
know, bothering the poles or anything.
46:07
He says, which, you know, the kids don't
46:08
bother him too much. That should be
46:09
fine. But, uh, he says, "Thank you.
46:12
Thank you, Serena. This is great." Uh,
46:15
he so
46:17
>> keep going if we don't have no more
46:19
stakes.
46:20
>> He says, "We this this will be fine.
46:23
It'll be fine if we get these cooled
46:24
down by the, you know, by the end of the
46:26
party or by the start of the party." So,
46:28
the the mechanical result of this is the
46:30
solution will hold, but it's not exactly
46:32
safe. The party tonight will have the
46:33
story tag wobbly banner posts, which
46:36
could come into play. Who knows? Okay.
46:40
Uh yeah, that's about it. So, uh each of
46:44
you uh has kind of overcome the the the
46:49
thing that uh Alderman Beak set be set
46:52
before you. Um and everybody arrives. Uh
46:56
we'll we'll fast forward a little bit to
46:58
sunset uh before we wrap things up here,
47:01
which is uh you know, everybody's
47:04
brought their discarded goods and
47:05
they're in the cart. The cart is sitting
47:07
uh near Skunk Glenn uh on the Village
47:10
Green, which is behind the village hall.
47:11
It's a big open area for, you know, town
47:14
celebrations and it runs right up
47:15
against the edge of the Skunk Glenn
47:17
Ravine.
47:19
As you all arrive, the sound of dozens
47:22
of excited people envelops the village
47:24
green as everyone gathers to watch the
47:25
sunset and to begin the celebration. Uh,
47:28
and as you, as like I said, this is
47:31
where most years this is where the
47:33
discarded cart and all the goods uh
47:35
would be thrown over the ravine into
47:37
skunk Glenn. But tonight, uh, Alderman
47:39
Beaks talks about a change, uh, they're
47:42
going to try doing because he says that
47:43
as we renew ourselves by discarding our
47:45
goods each year, this year, we are going
47:47
to, uh, renew our, uh, renew our village
47:51
ritual, uh, by trying something new.
47:54
This year, instead of throwing things
47:56
over into Skunk Glenn and using a lot of
47:59
the town's wood to create a bonfire in
48:01
the center of town, this time the
48:02
bonfire will be created from the
48:04
discarded goods itself set in the middle
48:07
of the green uh between. So, there are
48:09
tables everywhere that are set with
48:10
food. There's a dance area with ribbons.
48:12
There's a stage for musicians to play.
48:14
And the bonfire in the middle of it all
48:16
is already burning bright and tall as
48:18
the items discarded by the village are
48:20
being consumed within. In a matter of
48:22
minutes without any special declaration,
48:24
people have already started eating.
48:25
They're chatting. And when people get up
48:27
to dance, they approach the bonfire to
48:28
throw more of their discarded goods into
48:30
the flames. Everything seems to be going
48:32
well. However, there's just something
48:37
unusual in the air. Maybe you can kind
48:39
of pick up on it as you hear people on
48:40
the sidelines arguing a little too
48:43
loudly about the new tradition. Uh among
48:45
the dancers, some people are dancing too
48:47
wildly near the cliffs. Some people are
48:49
shouting a little too loudly and they're
48:50
disrupting the music. The music itself
48:53
doesn't sound right. It's like instead
48:56
of harmony, like one instrument is
48:58
playing against another. Um,
49:01
it's barely been a moment since sunset,
49:03
but already something about this party
49:06
seems out of control and Raven Holm may
49:08
be hitting for a disaster rather than a
49:10
renewal. H,
49:12
>> but we'll talk about that next time.
49:14
>> Oh. Oh, no.
