Submitter Gimmlette writes, "The words 'icon' and 'legendary' seem, sometimes, to be applied with reckless abandon. So few people who have this appellation affixed upon their passing actually could be called either or both words. 2016 has not been kind to the music industry. Indeed, we could go back to the last few days of December last year, to the death of Motorhead's Lemmy Kilmister, to find the music world losing icons. Glenn Frey, Merle Haggard, Maurice White, David Bowie. The list is depressingly long.

halftime show at that one large professional football event where it poured and he didn't care. Maireya brought her axe and cranked up the volume. Icon. Legend. Yes, the words fit. So do the words of Shakespeare from Hamlet: 'Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.'"
