This week we continue our adventure of Daggerheart, as our crew becomes the first to enter the towering spire that is the Motherboard. While it's forbidden by the church, delving into these untouched halls may be the only way to save the Motherboard — and perhaps the entire Echo Vale. Let's see how it goes, shall we?
Join GM Liz Harper as I attempt to guide a motley crew of adventurers through the Echo Vale! Here's our cast of characters:
* Joan as Lithyen of Redcanyon (Rogue), a faun who lost her family at the hands of cultists obsessed with technology. She now travels alongside those who rescued her.
* Matt as Ishvit (Brawler playtest), a young giant, raised in isolated ruins. She's looking for her way in the world after losing her dwarven foster family.
* Nick as Tavin (Seraph), a human priest who has pledged himself to the Motherboard, but his faith was shaken when he met a supposed worshipper who used the faith to steal and kill.
* Phil as Laplace Cadmus (Warlock playtest), an elf who narrowly survived an attack on his group of pilgrims with the help of a mysterious voice in the network (and also Tavin).
This is the last in a three-part game of a Daggerheart game in the Motherboard setting! Look for new episodes every Monday — next week we'll be covering the latest tabletop news, and then we'll be starting another game!
Daggerheart is the latest game from Darrington Press and the team at Critical Role — we're all still learning the rules of this game, so please apologize our mistakes! Increasing the chaos, two of our party were trying out playtest classes: Brawler for Matt and Warlock for Phil. You can find details on these classes (and more playtest content) on Daggerheart's website. If you want to follow along and/or see where we went wrong, you can read all of the rules in the completely free SRD. The print book is sold out (though check with your FLGS if you're interested in a copy), but if you enjoyed our game you can buy Daggerheart digital copies from Demiplane and DriveThruRPG.

Hello and welcome to another episode of Tavern Watch plays Daggerheart. We are
0:30
playing today in the motherboard setting which is sort of postapocalyptic a lot
0:36
of scavenge technology and uh I am your GM Liz. I just while saying all of this
0:42
I thought I don't think I've been introducing myself. Well, we're going to live with it. So, I am going to
0:48
introduce all of our players. Let's start with Phil.
0:54
Hello, I'm Phil. I am playing Lelas Cadmus, a wanderorn elf warlock. A Yes,
1:00
I'm playing a warlock in a setting that has no magic. How's that work? Don't ask questions. Uh, yeah. Yeah, I had to throw me for a
1:07
loop with that one. It's great. We're having fun. And Matt, hi, I'm Ishfit. I'm a giant. I grew up
1:15
with seven dwarves. I was frozen in a tube. Everybody who I know and love is
1:20
now frozen in tubes. I'm looking for a way to get them out of the tubes. And yeah, that's that's pretty much it. Oh,
1:27
I'm a giant. Sorry, did I not mention that? Yeah, I'm a giant. Uh Joan, I'm playing Lithion of Red
1:35
Canyon, a ridgeborn fawn rogue who apparently has a cult after her, the
1:42
same one that killed everyone she ever loved. But we're trying to be okay with
1:48
that because we have something more important to worry about. Okay. And Nick, would you introduce our
1:54
introduce yourself and then tell us what's what's the story up to now?
2:00
Yes. Uh, my name is Nick and I am playing Taven, a human order Sarif who
2:07
is also a spellcaster in a world that doesn't have magic, but we also don't
2:14
ask questions, we just do. And uh Tav
2:20
as his to help his uh calling as a healer has replaced his real hands with
2:27
metal hands and that's how he does his sarafhic abilities. Um and in the last
2:35
session as our group made their way through away from the motherboard
2:43
central spire uh after speaking with the prophet. Uh they were beset upon by
2:52
hitmen who were hired by the blind eye cult. the cult that is after Lithon
2:59
Jones character. And after a short but interesting battle, we dispatched all of
3:07
them, strung up the last remaining uh Hitman, took his money, got some good
3:14
information, and are now continuing with our original journey uh in accessing the
3:20
motherboard's main, I guess, panels to see what is going on. And we are
3:26
currently at the bottom of a valley uh where we think there is an entrance.
3:32
So yes, you are on the edge of a river that is flowing. The prophet told you
3:38
that she believes the river is part of a a natural cooling system for the
3:43
motherboard's machinery. Uh so yes, you're at the bottom of a
3:49
kind of cliff. You've just gotten down. Most of you got down safely. And uh what
3:56
does everyone want to do from here? Well, the first thing that Lethian is going to do is use her inspirational
4:04
words ability to clear a hit point from her friend Ishwit from that fall.
4:10
Oh, thank you. Basically, I tell you how cool you are, and it's okay. Everyone makes mistakes.
4:16
It was kind of embarrassing because you know I grew up in mountains not supposed to fall off them. That's the first thing
4:22
they tell you. You don't fall off the mountains that I was choosing because I knew that
4:27
you were bigger than me. It's I used I I back when I was before I
4:33
I changed my name because a dwarf name. Uh and you know nothing against my dad's
4:39
but I'm not a dwarf. I I should have I should have he they were always like you know don't win don't fall off the
4:46
mountain and I I that's like the first lesson and I didn't so I felt bad but now I feel better so thank you. I got to
4:53
braid my hair again. I start braiding my hair while while we're walking now. I'm literally unbraiding and rebraiding my
4:59
hair as we walk without a mirror. So that's pretty impressive. Uh, so yeah, y'all are heading along the
5:06
river to, you know, what direction you are from the motherboard, following the river. Anyone doing anything in
5:12
particular while you're making this walk? Braiding my hair. And and also, okay, my two normal like my two lower eyes are
5:21
just focused on that. The top eye, the the one in the middle of my forehead is kind of looking around just, you know,
5:29
just sweeping it. That sounds not being followed again. That sounds extremely confusing having
5:36
three eyes. Okay, so uh someone make me an instinct roll. I'm going to get used
5:44
to that name eventually to see how well you're uh to see what you see, frankly.
5:52
I'll roll it. We have that's a an 18 two
5:57
nines. Oh, well that is a crit. So, uh,
6:02
you do g do you get anything special on a crit? I mean, you gain you gain your
6:07
hope. Was there something else you get? You gain you gain a hope and clear a stress,
6:12
but Okay. I don't I don't know if you have one. So, you do gain a hope though. And
6:18
you get a good look around you. You are pretty sure no one has followed you. you
6:23
know, there it's it'd be pretty obvious if someone else, you know, tumbled down the cliff or even not tumble. You're
6:30
good at uh at spotting things in this sort of terrain. You would know if
6:36
someone had come down behind you. And uh looking ahead along the river, you do
6:42
notice something unusual, though. You notice places
6:48
just inside the water, a couple of places just outside the water that kind of piles of dirt that that look odd. It
6:57
look like burrows of some kind. Like something that's been digging through it recently. What size are these
7:02
burrows? Oh, that's a really good question. Uh yeah, let's let's say uh a couple of
7:10
feet in diameter. That looks like it's not going to be comfortable for me. I I don't know. I don't know that.
7:18
It's like a badger sized creature perhaps. I a larger than a badger.
7:23
Well, I definitely point that out. I don't know what made those, but it
7:28
isn't going to friendly if it gets upset at us. Well, we have no choice but to keep
7:33
moving, I think. Yeah. Yeah. I don't think this is a way in. I hope
7:39
cuz said that's not going to be comfortable for anyone. No, I will I will say with that role in in
7:45
the distance you see what looks like a wall that is not not stone, something
7:51
mechanical at the end of this. Ah, I think that's probably more what we're looking for. Yeah.
7:57
So, we're just start around the the the burrows if we can. So, I would say
8:04
everyone give me an agility role or a finesse role or if you
8:12
want to make a case for something else to sort of get around these things a little quietly.
8:19
Thanks. Yeah, probably finesse is the best one, but I think yeah, you a case could be made for agility just maneuvering
8:25
around. 19 with fear 11. Okay, 19. Uh you gain a hope but you
8:32
were not as quiet as you want. You kind of stumble. What about the rest of you?
8:38
19. Yes, you were good. Seven with hope. Uh so you gain a hope but you were you
8:46
were walking uh you were walking together and when Phil what is your
8:51
character's name? I keep forgetting. Lelass. Lelass. You were walking, you know, next
8:57
to Lelas and when he stumbles, you try to catch him, but you also stumble. So,
9:03
you were you were making a little a little more noise than you wanted to. And what about you, Ishvit?
9:08
Uh 19 hope. Okay. So, you gain a hope and we've got
9:16
we've got half and half here. So you continue on, but as you continue down the way, behind
9:23
you, coming out of the ground is a large
9:29
metallic snake covered in metal panels
9:34
that swirl around it like they're rotating on some internal axis. And it's
9:42
h it's kind of it's uh sort of spinning looking around and
9:50
to see what what's this disturbance? What was this noise? And it does clock
9:56
you. It is going to uh turn turn towards you on and turn
10:03
towards you all and make a trample
10:08
attack kind of. Wait, I have the wrong thing in front of me. It's going to turn towards you all and
10:15
do a spinning attack. And I am going to
10:20
say that uh Llat and Tavern are close enough that they are going to be hit.
10:28
But I will let the other two of you decide how close you were to these guys.
10:33
Like are you very close to them or were you ahead of them? I mean, we're
10:39
probably ahead because we we rolled better. Yeah, that's that's kind of what I was
10:44
thinking. So, it's going to So, it rolled extremely badly. That's a two on
10:50
the dice. That's not going to hit anybody. So, it comes and rushes towards
10:56
you, coming up out of the ground and spinning around with the plates on its
11:01
body, sort of uh coming out in sort of a wild spin. But the two of you,
11:08
you know, you see it coming and you sort of I scatter out of the way in each
11:13
direction and it doesn't catch either of you. And I'm going to say that now everyone here will have a chance to act.
11:20
Who would like to deal with this first? Um, I'll go. I think uh so how big is
11:28
this snake? I know we know the size of the burrows, but like in relation to it's it's like 20 feet long and a couple
11:36
of feet around. It's it's pretty large. Okay. Uh so Taven is going to take
11:45
flight. Okay. And he is going to use his Iconis to
11:52
basically he's going to fly and try and strike it in the head. Okay. Um, and then I have a foundation
11:58
feature that relies on if I make a successful attack. So, okay,
12:05
that is going to be a 21 with hope. That is plenty. Yes, you hit it. So,
12:10
what are what do you do from there? Okay, so I will use that hope that I just got and spend and add as part of my
12:18
foundation feature for wings of light. I can spend in this case wings of metal spend a hope to deal an extra 1d8 damage
12:25
on a successful attack. So that is my original roll is a 1d10
12:32
um plus two and then I'll add uh a d8
12:37
roll on top of that. So the d10 roll is 8 + 2 which is 10 and then the d8 is I
12:45
add uh six on that. So 16. Okay. that you uh swing at it. Yes. Is
12:52
this like a melee attack or like a like a laser beam? He uses his iconis and as he's flying up
13:00
just uh swings sideways and the rod makes contact with the snake's the side
13:06
of the snake's head. Okay. And as you do it, the snake kind of crumples down towards the ground.
13:12
couple of the metal plates surrounding its body fly off and uh and hit the
13:19
ground. You've you've injured it very badly. Um but as you I think I'm reading
13:28
this correctly. No, never mind. That that is it. So yes,
13:33
it looks very badly hurt. You have you have given it a good hit. So
13:40
yay. Who's next? Yeah, that's that's I'm gonna jump at it.
13:46
Um I'm I'm almost gonna jump like on it, but using my thorn grips on bludgeoning
13:52
mode. Okay, that is 25
13:57
with hope. Okay, that definitely hits. So, what are what are you doing from there?
14:04
Okay, so damage damage is 10 for that. And then I'm
14:11
going to spend a or I'm going to mark a stress.
14:17
I'm I'm going to stop you right there. Stop you before you do that. 10 is enough to put it out. So how do you
14:24
knock this thing out? If also if you want to kill it, you can do that, too. Yeah. Um, so I jump in there, I hit it
14:31
with my things, and then I I kick it off the ledge with a a great big a great
14:37
mighty goat kick. And okay, so yeah,
14:44
uh you you give it a good kick. You've taken a couple more armor plates off of
14:49
its head and its eyes, which were lit up with a pale blue light, go dark, and it
14:57
crumples down into the water, which starts pushing it slowly down the river.
15:03
All right. Hopefully those Tim's going to land. And uh has has
15:09
anything else reacted to us to our little scuffle? Noticeable shift in the landscape?
15:15
Not that you have seen. You you glance around and other than this little
15:20
conflict, you haven't seen anything else popping its head up. Uh there doesn't seem to be any wildlife down here except
15:28
for that guy. Maybe the wildlife was scared of that guy. But it's it's otherwise quiet. It's gotten very quiet
15:35
once you defeated that. And there's no sound except for the rushing water.
15:41
T's just turn and look to the group. And I don't want to wait and find out if there's anything worse than this.
15:46
Yeah. I don't want to wait and see if there's more of them hiding in there. Let's Let's boogie. Let's mosy.
15:52
Yeah. Let's continue down the river. So, you carry down the river which ends in a
15:57
flat metallic wall made of like a and you do recognize this after being in the
16:04
motherboard's presence. It's like a silver metal with streaks down it
16:10
that uh that blocks the rest of the river. And there is a hatch of some kind
16:18
up on the ground. And I I will say there's also like below the water
16:23
there's grates of some kind letting water in, but there's also some kind of
16:29
hatch that is up on land. Well, I don't think any of us How hard is it to reach it? To reach the hatch.
16:35
Yeah. I'd say it's a it's a ground level. Okay. And it's not it's not hidden. There may
16:42
be some overgrowth around it, but it's obviously there. Certainly this, you know, the motherboard has been the
16:50
motherboard has been here for as long as anyone has tracked history. And down here, no one's been down here to
16:57
maintain it. And certainly with this water here, there's a lot of greenery popping up at the base of this canyon
17:03
where the water is here to to sustain it and vines that have grown up the side of
17:10
this structure. But it's it's it's
17:15
visible. It's not it's not hiding. You can definitely see the lines of some sort of hatch.
17:21
Uh you sciency people um would know more how to get past this than me. Do you want to check for traps
17:28
or alarm? Classic D&D move. Perfect. Yes. Uh, I was actually going
17:35
to try and make some kind of roll to inspect to figure out what the opening mech, but I wanted to use one of my
17:42
Okay. Uh, where I can spend a favor instead of a uh hope like you would for an
17:47
experience, but in return, they're slightly strong. In this case, my patron gives me a boon called No Path Remains
17:52
closed. Oh, that's a good one. What kind of roll is this? Okay. Um, I will let you roll. Uh, instinct if
18:00
you would like to like perceive it or knowledge if you would prefer to
18:05
uh use what you know about technology of this sort with the help of your patron
18:11
about six of one half dozen of the other because they're both a plus one for me. I like the flavor of the knowledge one more. So, I'm going to do that. So I am
18:17
rolling and adding a plus total of and I have spent my one uh okay so that is a
18:23
let's see a five + 4 is nine + 13 with
18:29
okay so you look at this hatch and you
18:35
know you've seen others like this in your travels you it has kind of a
18:40
standard opening mechanism that as long as it's powered up. It should be uh easy
18:50
enough to open it. You don't see it doesn't seem strange. It seems like the technology
18:56
you've seen everywhere else. It seem it kind of feels like the entry into the
19:02
motherboard would be something different, something exciting, but it's this seems very ordinary.
19:08
This seeming this seems like the right place, but at the same time, this seems a little too easy. Seems like anybody
19:13
should have been able to stumble across this. So maybe if there is an actual entrance, it lies further. Either way, it doesn't seem like it would be very
19:19
hard to get out. As you are inspecting this, uh, I have a
19:24
spin to fear. And another one of those worms springs up behind you.
19:30
Too easy indeed. Uh, it is it's is so easy to get into these
19:36
places. Uh, it it's going to try and make a spinning attack at everyone again. It did such a great job last
19:43
time. Well, the other one did such a great job last time. It worked so well. Uh, that is a a spinning attack is an uh
19:52
an AoE to anyone within very close range. So, kind of anyone up there inspecting the door. It's coming right
19:59
up. Uh, that is a 15 to hit.
20:04
Uh, I'm going to spend three hope. Would you like to spend another fear? If not, that does not hit me.
20:10
Uh, no. No. Okay. Okay. So that is that is that is my that is my patrons protection class feature.
20:17
Yeah. Um my my class is hope feature which uh yeah it I on a successful
20:24
attack I can spend three hope. If you if I do you must spend a fear to make it hit. Uh no I'm I'm going to let your power stand
20:32
for itself. So yes your fear away. Tell me tell me how you how you get out of the way of this thing. Uh I don't think he does. I think this
20:39
is definitely incoming over him. And then it's like a momentary like shimmering barrier app like coalesces in
20:46
front of uh in front of Lelass. It's kind of a shimmering green and gold color. Um and it it's just there and
20:53
it's like it deflects the snake away from him and Okay. So yeah, it comes up spinning and it just deflects off of you. But anyone
21:02
who would have been near the door would also be part of this attack. So you want
21:07
to stay right there and okay it bounces off of Lelas. It definitely probably ricochets towards Taven. So
21:14
it's a it's a 15 to hit. So it's what your evasion is. Oh yeah, serifs serifs do not have great
21:21
evasion for evasion rolls. Uh meets it beats it. Uh so Haven, it
21:27
does hit you. That is I swear I hit a d6
21:32
sitting in front of me like a second ago. Oh, there they are. Uh that is six
21:40
points of damage as the uh it's metal metallic spines. Uh I don't know what
21:46
your threshold is off hand. It's 613. Okay. So that is going it's if it's the
21:53
same it beats it. Okay. So that's into major damage. So that's two HP.
22:00
And you can spend an armor if you want to to reduce that by one threshold. So
22:06
just remember that. Yeah, I think I I'll spent one of my three. So it'll be one HP.
22:12
Okay. Is that the same damage for all of us? Uh anyone anyone who's hit by that 15.
22:19
I will also mark an armor and a hip. Okay. And uh Ishit, do you were you up
22:25
at the door with everyone else? I have not heard Matt talk in a few minutes. So,
22:30
I'm here. Okay. Were you Were you up at the door with everyone else? Because if so, you
22:36
would be in range of this attack. But if you want to say that your character was further field, that's okay.
22:41
What What's the range on the attack? It's very close. So, it's kind of coming up right at the door where everyone was
22:47
standing. Okay. I My attack range is also very close. Okay. But it was attacking you. So, I
22:54
need to know if it I'm saying I would have I would have been up there. Okay, so that was a 15 to hit.
23:01
Okay, 15's going to hit cuz my evasion is only 12 and that was six damage. Okay, so that's on below it's below my
23:09
first threshold. So I take my hit point that's one hit point. Yes, I'll use armor.
23:15
Yeah, hit me. I kind of I side shrug it a little. Let the armor take it. I'm wearing leather. And uh the other thing
23:23
as it hits you, anyone it hit has to mark an additional armor slot. As it's
23:30
uh it's metallic uh armor plating on it slashes at you.
23:36
Oh, so if you're using if you're use Sorry, I should have mentioned that first. I didn't have the
23:42
feature up in front of me. as you are. If you're marking an armor slot to
23:47
reduce damage, still fine, but you have to mark an additional one that not does not provide additional benefit as it
23:53
just the sharp armor plating slashes through whatever armor you're wearing.
23:59
So, it moves to all of you. What do you want to do first? I'm going to spend three hope to
24:05
activate rogues dodge and gain a plus two bonus till my invasion. Okay. And then I'm going to hit it with
24:12
my thorn grips if I can. Okay. Okay. We have team 21 with hope.
24:20
Okay. You gain a hope and that definitely hits. Okay. And that is uh five damage.
24:27
Okay. And now I'm going to mark a stress to use my caprine leap to kick it. Is it
24:36
cap le? Is it called something? No, it's just called kick. Okay. Okay. So, so I think it's 2d6.
24:43
Yeah. Okay. So, that is an extra seven damage and I
24:49
am knocking it back to uh very close range. Uh, okay. So, you give it just this
24:58
powerful kick and it staggers backwards. You've definitely heard it and you have
25:04
knocked some of those some of that armor plating off again. Not not as much as as
25:12
you got the first one with, but it's it took a good hit. So, yes. Who wants to
25:17
who wants to go next? I'll go. Um
25:23
Well, I should make the attack first to see. Yeah, you do. You do at some point have to make an attack if you want to attack
25:29
it. Yeah, it ripped my armor. Team with hope. Oh, he just said I guess he's attacking.
25:36
Oh, sorry. No, I I think I must have my headset must have witched out. Go ahead, Matt. Okay. Um All right. Uh six and an eight.
25:46
So, okay, that's 14 + 2 is 16. Uh so, yeah, that's
25:51
16 to hit. Okay, that hits. Okay, I'm going to spend a hope.
25:56
And was that with was that with hope or fear? It was with hope. Sorry. Okay, then you also gain a hope. Okay,
26:03
I'm going to spend a hope right now. Um, oh, sorry. Uh, yeah, this is forceful
26:10
push. I should have said that. That's my bad. Um, so yeah, I'm going to add a d6.
26:17
So, this um Did I already tell you the damage? I'm sorry. My brain is all over the place. You did. You did not tell me any damage.
26:23
So, okay. Sorry. Okay. Okay. Well, that's 10 plus two. So 12 +
26:32
4 is 16 damage. Uh since it was a success with hope and um I'm going to
26:39
spend that hope to make it vulnerable. I I assume I can't shove it back because it's a it's like a door. Uh so I'm
26:47
assuming I can't just make it go back. Um um I mean you could push it back. You
26:52
could push it further back down the uh uh down the river away from you.
26:58
Okay, then I'll do that. Um, I push it down from from being very close. It's
27:03
now out at close and it gets the damage and I spent a hope to make it temporarily vulnerable. So now
27:10
okay uh all attacks on it have advantage. It looks extremely wounded. You've
27:16
knocked a whole with that with that blow. You've knocked quite a few more of the armor panels off of it. So uh Nick,
27:24
what does Tavin want to do? um gonna reorient himself after getting hit and point his Iconis and shoot
27:30
another bolt beacon at the worm. Okay.
27:36
And originally I had rolled a uh 14 with hope, but that was be before the
27:43
advantage. So can I just add advantage to that? Yeah, just add advantage. That's a d6.
27:49
Okay, that was a terrible roll. Um, that's going to be 16 plus
27:55
that is that is still enough to hit it. Okay. Yeah. All right. So, that's 2d8 plus two tech damage.
28:02
Okay. That is six total tech damage and it's already vulnerable. So, uh,
28:10
your vulnerable last and does that matter? Uh, it has to be cleared. So, I guess some specific action.
28:15
Okay. Mine just mine goes for for a round. So, yours is better. Wouldn't
28:20
that overwhelm it? Except except the the thing is it is it is deceased. You have killed it. Do you
28:26
want to say how you're you're you're really going well with these with this snake killing action?
28:33
Um I guess this bolt goes through one of the uh one of the panels that got
28:40
knocked off and just rips through the circuitry bringing it down.
28:45
Yes. And it crumples on the ground. Some of its armor panels smashed, some of it
28:51
missing, revealing an inner core of wires and complicated machinery. Uh, so
28:57
yes, you now have the robotic corpse of a giant snake and, uh, you are remain in
29:04
front of this hatch. Um, aren't we supposed to scrap it? Like there's a thing where you can get scrap
29:09
off of machines. You can you can collect scrap from machines if you so desire. Yeah, I I
29:15
feel like I would do that. Like I'm going to pick up one of the panel things and just, you know, yay, a scrap.
29:21
So, we each roll whatever dice size list determines the result of the dice compared to the associated scrap
29:26
category table. Whether we're getting shards, metals, or com. Yeah, I have to find the table now. Roll
29:33
a d8 for this. Anyone who wants to collect this uh the scrap from this guy,
29:40
I got a seven. Three,
29:46
five, one, falls few values. So, have a piece of cobalt.
29:52
Yes, you are collecting different metals. I'll say they're metal plates made of different materials that make up
29:59
the body of this. So, remind me again what your role was. Uh, one at a time,
30:04
please. Let's start with Joan. One. Okay. You collect a an aluminum panel
30:10
off of this thing. Uh, I had a five. Okay, that is indeed a piece of cobalt.
30:15
Out of three. Uh, that's copper. Oh, yeah. Yes. Kind of the scales of the snake are
30:20
all sorts of different materials and colors layered on top of each other. And uh,
30:26
seven. A seven. That is a panel made of platinum. This is very shiny. This is an
30:33
exceptionally shiny snake. It's a little so it could have some like corrosion.
30:38
This this snake is in addition to trying to kill scraped up. It's a little scratched up. In addition to trying to kill us, this
30:44
snake is also extremely colorful. Um I will say that all of you get uh two
30:51
two of these panels of the of the kind specified. So you can add that to your inventory where where it will sit. I
30:58
don't know what we're going to do with that. I can always make a profit selling copper.
31:05
for another. We got another slot each. Tav's distracted now, ripping copper
31:10
wiring out of remnants. In a in a longer campaign, we could either sell these for quantum or turn
31:16
them add-ons for our icon. Here, it's mostly just so players get a taste of the mechanics. I didn't forget
31:22
you players. Sweet dopamine. It's loot. Exciting loot. Sweet, sweet loot.
31:28
I I kind of really like how the loot works in this motherboard setting. Yeah, it's a little unusual because most of
31:35
the weapons are bonded to the thing that has them. So, some of the standard
31:42
weaponry just doesn't quite exist. So, it's different. It's different. So,
31:49
what is what is everyone doing? The body of a second snake is now behind you.
31:55
I'm going to try. But you have proven to be extremely proficient snake killers. We should try to get through this door before another snake pops out. Yeah.
32:02
Yeah. Trap. Who cares about a trap? Just get inside before we get killed. The trap is just going to be another
32:07
snake. The trap is more snakes. Yeah, there's snakes inside. No.
32:14
Uh, I will say you examined this door and it was it was not complicated. It
32:20
was standard technology that you were familiar with. You can just open it. It's it's not it's not a D and D style
32:26
game. If we aren't at a door over complicating getting inside. I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to open this
32:31
I'm going to open this hatch and lead the way. Uh yes. And it it opens as you would expect a hatch to open. And in you go.
32:38
Is every is everyone going in? I suppose I should ask. Anyone wants to stay out here?
32:44
I'm definitely going in. Creakily and noisily. That's how I expect hatches to open in the future. Ominously.
32:52
Exactly. Joan's picking up on because it's metal. It's got a thud. Is that anything? So, so in you go. Uh
33:00
once you're inside, you're in a large chamber. On each side is you can still
33:06
hear the rushing of water going through the chamber, but you can't see it from
33:12
here. Uh towards your left hand side where the river was running, there are
33:18
tall uh panels kind of thick columns that go up and down. You don't see where
33:27
they end in either direction. It's uh And on the other side of the room, there
33:33
are uh panels along the walls that are lit up, but the light is kind of
33:41
staticky flashing. It comes and goes and sort of pale blues and reds. And that's the only thing that lights this chamber
33:48
is this sort of staticky flickering light. Everything around you is made of
33:53
the sort of metals that you're familiar with. But unlike all the metal buildings, the uh buildings that scatter
34:00
the wasteland, this is clean and pristine inside. There's no corrosion,
34:08
no nothing growing out of here. It is looks perfect in a way you've never seen
34:16
machinery like this look. Except for the uh spattering from the displays.
34:23
Yeah, that makes me wonder what keeps them clean. Maybe it's the I hope you don't meet it.
34:29
Uh the the door has once you came in, the door did close behind you automatically with a little hiss.
34:36
Oh, well that's not ominous. Great. Um probably fine. Is there any other exit from this room
34:42
we found ourselves in? I mean, it continues onward in a long it's a it's a
34:47
wide room, but it's a long corridor just with these uh kind of long panels going
34:54
up and down on your left. Before we continue, who's got the who is
35:00
currently injured or has had a hit point on I am definitely injured. Okay. Um
35:05
my armor is gone. Okay, I want to spend uh I want to use one of my other abilities, mending touch, and spend two
35:12
hope to clear a hit point or stress from Lithion. I'll take the hit point. My stress is
35:17
only down one. And Lithion, I know that you hate the technological aspect. Unfortunately,
35:24
the hands have to do the thing. They splintered a different the five fingers
35:31
become 10 and now they are working on healing parts of your body. Yeah, I'll just shut my eyes.
35:37
It's like the opening message of Mass Effect too. At least At least that's not inside my
35:43
back like the other thing is. I'll make a note. Tavan is being as gentle as he can.
35:49
Mhm. So in here you hear that same hum like you would hear like you heard outside.
35:55
It's louder in here. It's at the moment it's a constant.
36:00
Can I make an ability roll to try and tune in? Uh, sure. How are How are you going to
36:06
do this? Uh, are you tuning in to the sound? Are you trying to use some of the technology
36:12
here? Uh, is there a way I can use connect my network tether to something? I know
36:17
that's the wires overhead in the city, but is there like another access port inside this? Uh,
36:23
you can certainly try. There are banks of panels along the the walls that do
36:29
seem like they might be control panels of some kind, but uh yeah, give me give
36:36
me a roll. Give me a knowledge roll to see if I can certainly try. Which is the DM
36:41
dare. Yeah. Um
36:48
that is a 13 with fear. Sorry, a 14 with
36:54
fear. I didn't add the one 14. I am afraid I'm afraid the DC was 15 on
37:00
that one. So you you fiddle with this panel. It seems like you would be able
37:06
to do something, but it's just maybe maybe the panel maybe it's not working.
37:11
There's kind of maybe something like a data port you could work, but it's you can't get it to work.
37:17
Fiddlesticks. Okay, I put the network tether away. Uh as you continue down the corridor, you do see there is uh there
37:26
are uh ladders leading upwards to hatches overhead kind of along along the
37:34
wall. There's uh a ladder going upwards. There's also another hatch at the far
37:41
end of the room. So, I don't have any opinions on which way to go, but I do want to say that if the I'm gonna listen
37:48
for the the pitch of the hum that it's making and okay, if I hear a change in
37:54
that, I want to study what the lights are doing at that. Okay. It's just a thing I'm paying attention.
37:59
All right. So, make an insight role or a knowledge role and we'll see how well
38:05
you are keeping up with that. Oh, that's not great. Um, we have
38:11
insight or instinct. Um, oh, sorry, instinct. Okay, so four with hope.
38:17
Uh, not good. You're listening to the sound and you think it's kind of going up and down just maybe a little, but the
38:24
the lights it seems to be like a random. You weren't making a connection there.
38:29
It just seems It seems like it's flashing randomly no matter how this sounds. Too alien for me.
38:34
My blueprint saddled brain says there's definitely a puzzle. Obviously. Uh I want to
38:40
Oh, where should we go? So, the ladders that go up, are there like hatches at the top of the ladders? There are hatches at the top. Yes.
38:47
Just kind of pick one arbitrarily. Um just go up and test the hatch on the on
38:52
the D. Third one we find. Okay. You continue down the corridor and
38:57
watching these hatches and just I'll try this one. You climb up the ones we check
39:03
and uh up there there the hatch opens. It's just This is like any other ancient
39:09
technology you found. It's not. Yeah. What am I What am I seeing up here? I have a flashlight. That would probably help since that other one down
39:15
there. Okay. You know, that will help. Yeah. I'm going to I'm going to pop out a flashlight and take a look at what I've poked my head into.
39:21
Uh you come up here into what looks like it's it is there is some dim lighting,
39:27
but it's similar. It flickers on and off. There are a bunch of workbenches up
39:32
here with uh machinery on them, but none of them are machinery. I mean, like uh
39:39
robotic arms and components, like things that were perhaps meant to build things,
39:46
but none of them are doing anything. It's It's a fairly large room. Maybe half a dozen work benches that are set
39:53
up to do something. Are there like spare parts lying around or does it look like
39:59
it's cleaned up after the last work order? Uh, there are lots of spare parts lying around and you know, every if if all of
40:07
y'all are going up, anyone can make me an
40:12
I'm going to learn this eventually. Anyone can make me an instinct roll or a
40:18
knowledge roll to look around and see what you see. Oh gosh. So, uh, let's see. 11 on the
40:24
hope 18 plus 15. Okay. So, um you look around. You do think this is like a workshop for
40:30
constructing machines or robotics. It's are we talking like a place for building remnants or like a place for
40:37
building like robot hand? Um I'm not sure how much I'm not sure
40:43
how much difference there would be between these things, but you do think this is a place for building remnants.
40:51
Um, some most of the tables are like modest size. You don't This does not seem like a facility in which you would
40:57
build giant robotic snakes. Oh, good. Um, and as you as you look around
41:03
investigating the room, there are a couple of robots in here that are
41:09
smashed. There have a couple of the panels have
41:14
wires ripped out of them. Uh some of the robotic arms on the workts are torn off
41:21
and on the floor. Uh do the do the other hatches so like we passed several ladders with hatches.
41:27
Does it look like those came up to this room also? Is this kind of running parallel up here or did I just happen to
41:32
find the work room? I I will say yes. They're they're running parallel up into this room.
41:38
Smash. So it looks like something like disabled these built remnants of violet. Yeah. Does anything in this room that we
41:45
can see look like it could end a remnant's life violently besides us? Could what?
41:50
Is there anything here that is there anything in here that could do violence to a robot? I guess besides us, which we've already proven
41:57
uh you don't see anything moving? There are some sparks still coming off of some
42:03
of the equipment, but um I I will also say you don't think this happened like
42:09
an hour ago. You think this happened long ago, but there's still the room still has power
42:15
and sometimes that results in like flickers on screens or sparks from
42:21
machinery, but it's not how far you haven't walked in on a you don't think you've walked in on a battle that
42:27
just happened. How far apart are is it just the robots that are disabled disabled or also the machinery is
42:34
broken? Uh both, but it's it's scattered, you know. It's not Some of them look okay.
42:42
It's not everything torn up, but there there's wreckage in this room. Something came through here.
42:48
Does it look like the wreckage is in a clear path or just all over the place?
42:53
It's It's scattered. There's not You don't uh You don't see like a a specific
42:59
It's not like, "Oh, we need to destroy this one specific panel. It's it's scattered all over the place."
43:04
You moving? Yeah, I think unless it was some scrap. I think other than that, maybe let's keep moving. Yeah. Okay.
43:10
Yeah. If anyone if anyone wants to pick up some scrap, you can do that. Might as well. I don't think I
43:16
roll me roll me a d10. D10. Anyone who wants to sort of scavenge and pick things up.
43:21
I don't even have one of those out. Hold on. Oh, yeah. Well, it's these. It's these scrap tables.
43:26
Well, three. Um, a three. You pick up a piece of a
43:32
circuit board that appears to still have some circuitry on it. I'll I'll lean over and point. See that shiny stuff on
43:38
there? That part's cool. Wow. You have to eat a lot more to make a fiddle. Oh, yeah. Tons. Um I I don't even know
43:44
how you make a whole fiddle out. You'd have to melt down so many remnants. Uh I rolled a 10. Uh that you pick a battery out of a
43:51
smashed remnant on the floor. That can come in hand. I rolled a nine. That's a capacitor that is uh that you
43:59
pull also out of the body of that same remnant. So tiny. It's picking up one cap. Wow.
44:09
That is a relay. I don't know how to describe that. It's a It's a use your
44:14
imagination. It's a bit of technology. A tiny little man running and handing a baton to another tiny little man
44:22
in an oval. So you're so so so your youth, did you ever like watch television?
44:30
I know. My my my dad would tell me things. shows like your thing. I don't
44:35
know. Dads would just tell me stuff whether uh whether whether Ishvitz um there were seven dads and each dad would
44:42
do a different voice and they'd like kind of like trade the stories off to each other and sometimes they you know
44:48
would start arguing about what actually happened. Um but you know I I tried to
44:53
convince them that we should maybe like like we could do we could do a bone throw to like figure out what actually
44:59
happened. They didn't like that. Wait, I'm sorry. a bone throw. Hey, you grab a bunch of bones and you
45:05
throw them and then you know if the bones are like you know all like the same part up you you know that's a good
45:12
and if they're not it's bad. Oh, okay. So the same Huh. Okay.
45:18
All right. So where are we going next? As you are sitting in here talking, a
45:25
door opens on the far end of the chamber and a a machine a large uh it's
45:34
perfectly round rolls inside. This is either going to be my best friend ever or I'm going to be so
45:39
disappointed and I have to smash it. Thinking the same thing. I'm gonna I'm gonna duck behind a uh
45:47
some something that's large enough to hide me and see if I can start looking behind me. Hey, listen.
45:54
What are you doing? Status. Please don't roll. Roll finesse to see
45:59
how well you hide. Uh 18 with fear.
46:05
Uh okay. It's uh you. You are hidden out of sight. Is anyone else trying to hide
46:11
or are we waiting to see what happens? Is the orb just kind of is it just kind of rolling through?
46:17
I'm waiting to see what happens. It It rolls through the door and then it's stopped
46:22
and then it makes a high-pitched squealing noise and rolls back the way. Oh god. Oh, that was what I wanted.
46:29
Oh, it's not how we've become friends. Oh, so let's let's go get it. Maybe you
46:34
can make friends. You should probably chase after the sphere. And this is where Tavan tells uh uh Ishit, "Now now
46:41
is a really good time to be eager. Let's get this ball." Okay, I start running after the ball. In
46:47
fact, no might have friends. I can't use that if that's a combat
46:52
thing. All right, never mind. I'm just running after the robot ball. Uh, okay. It is it is modestly speedy, but it's
47:01
not like it's not going to outrun a giant who is actually trying to run. Uh
47:07
you so out here it's in a corridor and uh you you go after it and along the
47:14
corridor if anyone else is following along with this along the corridor there are
47:21
doors that have been leading farther into the facility that have been ripped up. There are more flickering panels.
47:29
It's this is this whole place is in a state of very poor repair.
47:35
The ball keeps rolling. And what are what are you doing? It's it's making these kind of little little screey
47:43
sounds. How large is the robot ball? It's It's about It's not large. Um I
47:50
mean, I'm going to I'm going to I'm going to go back to my standard apparently and say it's about 2 feet in diameter. It's It's big, but it's not
47:58
giant. Certainly not on your scale. Uh, if I can catch up to it, I am going to
48:04
try to grab it and pick it up. Okay, you catch up to it. And you are you are very large and strong. You can
48:09
definitely grab it and pick it up. It continues. It makes a higher pitched
48:14
shrieking noise at this point. And it's still trying to roll.
48:20
I think it does. Like, how does it roll? Like, does it have rotating plates? How does this thing roll? Like, I'm trying
48:25
to figure out like how it's going forward. Gravity gravity center in the middle that spins. Make make a make a knowledge
48:32
roll for me. Oh, this should be fun. I mean, anyone anyone who wants to examine this can.
48:39
Yeah, I'm going to examine. I'm not going to make a separate roll. I'm just going to spend a uh a
48:44
knowledge. I'm going to spend a hope to attempt to help uh help issue.
48:50
Uh don't bother D6. Uh no, it's it doesn't need I don't need it. Uh I rolled two twos.
48:58
Perfect. It was like two with all my eye and then I rolled the next one and there's another two. So yeah.
49:04
Okay. So um you look at this thing and it does it's made you know the snake was
49:11
a bunch of shifting plates interlocking. This is similar in that there a whole
49:18
lot of very very small plates interlaced
49:23
on it and each plate seems to move individually to push it along and to let
49:29
it go in any direction and it's so its plates are like shifting very making very slight movements but frankly to you
49:37
it just kind of tickles. Oh, please stop doing that. The yelling.
49:42
Please, little robot guy. Can you Do you understand what I'm saying? Please stop. I I don't think it understands you.
49:49
I hold it out to uh uh Yeah. Llas. I hold it out to you. Can you make him
49:56
stop yelling and tell him his name is Shiny Ball?
50:01
Uh I If it doesn't understand you, it's not going to understand me.
50:06
Can't you ask your girlfriend or whatever? Excuse you.
50:12
I don't know. Aren't you dating her? The one that gives you Oh, then what are you? Are you just like friends with benefits?
50:18
What's going on? Oh my god. I'm not explaining this to you right now.
50:25
She won't she won't help you throw out my dad's. Uh she won't help you find any other giants so I can at least know somebody
50:32
who's a giant besides myself. And now she won't even help you. Let me make a robot friend. We We passed at least three giants in
50:38
the city up there. Did you not see them? No. There were giants there. Oh, wow. I guess I guess you were
50:44
distracted. Um, yeah. Okay, I'll fine. I'll try and talk to this ball.
50:51
I'm going to attempt to use I'm going to use a favor to uh attempt to use my
50:56
momentary mastery of code to try and talk to this ball. And please calm the
51:02
heck down. I'm guessing this is presents because I'm trying to persuade the ball.
51:08
I I will allow you to use knowledge if you would prefer. No, I would rather use presence.
51:14
Okay. Uh much like in D and D. This is a charisma based. All right. So 2d12 + 3
51:21
plus two. All right. So that is a 12 on the fear die and 11 on the hope die. So
51:27
a 23 + 5 a 28 with fear.
51:32
Um, as Lelas momentarily speaks, what sounds like a machine noise at this
51:38
thing. The AOL. Yes, that's exactly the noise I'm think I'm picturing is like a combination
51:44
between like the Reaper noise from Mass Effect and like a dialup modem. Okay. Yes, that is more than enough to
51:51
this this thing immediately stops moving and stops, you know, screeching.
51:58
It's a big plus. That's a big plus. Okay. it. Uh, what what are you trying
52:03
to say to it other than calm down? Uh, I think I'm just trying to convince it that we're friends and that if it's
52:09
trying to there's no need to alert anybody to our presence, we we mean no harm. We come in peace, basically.
52:14
Okay. And uh h can this thing talk? I mean, it's uh h
52:20
I mean, make a screaming noise. So, yeah, it can it can make screaming noises. Um, I I'm going to I'm going to
52:27
say with that role, you at least have a temporary uh bout of understanding. And it says,
52:33
"Friend, friend." Everyone else just hears like a weird screeching noise. Okay. Uh, I'll I'll What What else you
52:41
Do you know what? Do you know what's wrong down here? Everything. Everything wrong. Okay. Well, um, something specific,
52:48
something actionable. Come on. Action items. you know, how do we fix it?
52:53
Um, it it starts listing off just an extremely
53:00
it it just keeps going with different things like, you know, you saw the robots that weren't working in there and
53:06
the panels that weren't working and it's just going down a list of things that have been damaged and need fixing. I
53:14
It's It's a very Wow. Um, it's an overwhelming amount of problem.
53:20
Um, it's an overwhelming amount of problems and it it it goes through this list for
53:28
a while and then it says stuck in reboot cycle. It's not it's not a sophisticated
53:34
communication machine, but it is. So, something is restarting over and over.
53:40
Can't fix. Can't fix. Uh, can too many things broken. Can you can you lead us to whatever is
53:46
restarting? Friends, help. Friends, try to help. Friends, help. Prince, help. Prince, help.
53:51
Okay. Uh, it's kind of trying to It's trying to bounce a little, but you're still
53:57
Yeah, I'll kind of I'll kind of clear my throat so I can attempt to speak, you know, the common tongue again. He sounds
54:02
a little horsey. Ishvit, put the ball down. It's going to take us to what? And he knows he's shiny bot now. That's
54:08
his name. Yes. Shiny robot ball. He knows that. Okay, good. Okay, shiny robot ball.
54:13
She says you're shiny robot ball. I'll indicate the issue. I'm like, whenever she says shiny robot ball, she means you. friend. Friend,
54:20
I put him her them down on the ground and it rolls at its highest little
54:27
rolling speed down this corridor. And Wow. So far, I'm getting a lot of exercise with this guy.
54:34
You It's not a problem to keep up with it. It's It's doing its best. Okay. But
54:41
it's just a little robot. Are we all? It's a really big machine.
54:47
So, yes. Off. Off it races down this corridor. As you follow it, there's the
54:52
signs of more just destruction, destroyed robots, uh destroyed paneling,
54:59
ripped out wires, and uh it eventually brings you to what
55:05
is a a large round room that has a large control panel in the middle. It's uh
55:11
you've gone up a couple of flights of stairs to get here, which it gets up like it's it's little plating sort of
55:19
rolls like it just sort of rolls up the stair. Does I don't know if that makes any sense. It's like it sort of deforms
55:27
to get up the next stair and it just keeps doing that. Man, that's weird ball. Oh wow.
55:33
Lithian just watches it fascinated. Okay. And yes, so it's this uh large circular control room of some kind with
55:43
and none of you have seen technology quite like this. This is, you know,
55:50
there's a lot of ruins. Maybe a thing, you know, when you'll find a ruin,
55:56
there's maybe an item or two that looks functional or partially functional, but finding a space like this and you've
56:04
kind of been led into the heart of this facility. So, it sort of it bounces on
56:11
the ground. Friend, help. Friend, help. And in here the humming noise is louder
56:17
and it's making that like up and down kind of
56:23
that gets louder for a while and then drops to nothing again. So I'm going to kind of gesture around.
56:29
I'll say whatever is the issue. Our ball friend says shiny ball friend uh says
56:35
it's in here and that something keeps verify whether it rebooting
56:40
it bounces in response. Yeah, it it sounds like something starting and
56:46
stopping that. I kind of listen to the pattern of the sound. I'm like that makes sense if something is cycle. So, I mean, who who here is going to be
56:52
experienced with machinery? I I'm assuming not leth. But, uh,
56:57
can we just take off the boot? Uh, I mean, I grew up with a bunch of
57:03
dwarf technically. I grew up with a bunch of dwarfs who were really into technology, but I didn't really study it that much. So, I
57:10
know that it exists, but I'm not like like I'm like most humans living alive right now who if their refrigerator has
57:17
a problem, they be like, "Oh, the refrigerator has a problem. They can't fix it. It's making some kind of dumb noise."
57:23
Yeah. Yeah. I feel like this probably either falls to Taven. I do have my background as a pilgrim of the spire. Guess I could
57:29
try to get spiritual, but I am out of favor. So, uh, need to have a rest for
57:34
me to be able to contact my patron. I think between the two of us rolling uh
57:40
like support and or using hope to give advantage would probably be enough or
57:45
have enough experience to figure out what's going on. I want to I do want to use one of my other features though to
57:50
attempt to give myself another to even give myself the foundation to be able to do this. Hey Liz,
57:56
once once per session I can spend a hope to reach into my backpack and pull out a mundane item that's useful to my
58:03
situation. What kind of item? What kind What kind of item do I pull out that's helpful for this situation?
58:08
Oh, wow. I have to come up with an item that's helpful for this situation. I have to I have to work with you. I'm
58:14
thinking almost like almost like a manual maybe in which I maybe I don't understand all the words,
58:20
but I've seen like a diagram of this and there's like maybe there's like pictures I can try to follow, but maybe I don't
58:27
like I don't understand the jargon. So I'm basically just trying to interpret from like essentially, you know,
58:32
pictograms is what it would amount to for me. Star data pad. Yeah. I keep think I keep thinking of
58:37
like if you take your car into a mechanic nowadays, they they don't know what's wrong with it. Like the thing they look to it. Yeah.
58:43
Yeah. Like you can That's a good idea. Like you're What is wrong with this thing device?
58:49
Yeah. I wish they had one for computers. You computers just aren't that simple.
58:56
Uh, well, it can be, but anyway. Uh, yeah. So, I'm thinking like something like that to even like cuz like as it is
59:02
right now, I don't even know if I would have the the starting place to be able to attempt to stop the power cycling
59:08
essentially. But I want to I want to pull out whatever mundane item this is. Yeah. Well, it's probably not too
59:15
mundane, but you've uh you've been scavenging a lot through the You've been
59:20
scavenging before, looking into ancient technology to try and figure out the deal with your patron or to help her.
59:28
And you have picked up it's like a a tablet with some wiring on it. And the
59:33
wiring can typically connect to other machines, ancient machines, if they have
59:38
power and communicate information. though you don't always understand it. I
59:44
I will say you can due to your role earlier, you can continue to communicate with the ball for the duration.
59:51
Okay. Um so I'll pull this tablet out and I'll show it the connector on the other end and I'll say does it do you
59:57
know where is there a port like this somewhere indicating the control? Uh okay. It rolls around the side and
1:00:04
sort of partially under the the panel and sort
1:00:09
of bounces up and down up kind of knocking the panel with its head.
1:00:14
Doesn't really have a head, but you know what I mean. It's all head. They'll say, "Go Haro, find me a USBC port."
1:00:24
Oh, cool. Perfect. Uh, so it it it bounces and you
1:00:32
can go down there and there are some a variety of ports there and you fiddle with them and one of them does
1:00:39
uh does fit. Okay. Well, let's see if we can get a readout on whatever this thing is and
1:00:45
then we'll see if I understand what any of that means. Uh, so your as you plug it in, your
1:00:51
tablet powers up. It's uh I think it's probably powered by whatever it's plugged into. That's where it's drawing
1:00:57
its information. You haven't gotten it to work very often because finding a powered up ancient terminal is not
1:01:04
common. And in this room, the lights are steady on the terminals. It's that this
1:01:11
is not This did not get as damaged as the rest of the facility that you walked
1:01:16
through. Um h what would this tell you? So you are going through the logs on
1:01:24
this machine and you scrolling backward looking at error logs error logs error
1:01:30
logs. You think it's just a whole long list. You can recognize date codes. Does
1:01:37
someone you know if everyone wants to look at this and make a knowledge role?
1:01:43
You can. All right. Um, you know, Tavin and and uh Wlass, you
1:01:52
have advantage on this role because you do have some familiarity with technology. I was say, do we want to make this like
1:01:57
a group role maybe for this? Uh, yeah, that's a good idea. Okay. Um, I'll I'll volunteer to lead
1:02:02
that one. Everybody describes how they collaborate. I make an action roll as usual, and everyone else makes a reaction role using whichever traits
1:02:09
they and the GM decides is best. I get a plus one for each reaction roll that succeeds and a minus one for each one
1:02:15
that fails. So I guess yeah, I will say you can use knowledge.
1:02:22
You could use instinct to like maybe perceive things that look unusual or out of place. You
1:02:30
could use finesse if you want to like look at the mechanics here and maybe you
1:02:36
see a wire and you're manipulating it. I'll hold wires in place. tell me where to put them.
1:02:41
Um, now that uh LLC's tablet has a uh
1:02:47
actual power source, I'm just going to stick one of my fingers towards the top of it and use it to interface with a
1:02:53
part of the tablet. And that's how I'm going to help. I'm just remembering when I would watch uh Megidd who is like the
1:03:01
uh the oldest of the seven doors when he would like be trying to open doors or
1:03:07
trying to get the technology to in the mind to respond which sometimes it would and sometimes it wouldn't. Um, and
1:03:15
basically I'm that's I'm just like basically going, "Okay, I remember he'd
1:03:20
do this and I'd remember like he'd circle the he'd take the circle with the squiggly line behind it and take that
1:03:27
over to the to the ground uh because there's a ground symbol uh in code and I
1:03:33
that's just what I'm doing." So, okay. Okay. So, going to go with instinct, I guess. All
1:03:40
right. Uh, I got a nine on the fear die and a and a
1:03:45
six on the hope die. So that's 15 plus two. So that's 17 with fear.
1:03:51
Uh, so reaction reaction rolls actually don't generate fear or hope. So this will this will just be forgetting
1:03:58
the number and making sure it beats whatever. 25 with hope. That's good. In place
1:04:03
14 or 15, sorry. Okay. Yeah, I'm thinking 15 is the DC on
1:04:08
this. Okay. So I'm looking at a plus three plus one uh for my knowledge. Uh all
1:04:13
right. So I have a 15 on the hope and one on the fear. So 16 + 420 with
1:04:21
uh okay yeah that is enough. We've got um uh Ishvit over here trying to remember
1:04:28
things and pointing things out like oh this happened this is and you have uh
1:04:35
helpful anecdotes. Yeah. Lots is actually secretly uh impressed with like how much knowledge
1:04:41
Ishvit has. Even if she doesn't know how to tap into it, she's clearly absor like a Yeah, it's it's one of those things you
1:04:48
Ishvit has a lot of knowledge but isn't aware of having it but actually knows
1:04:54
quite a bit about some of these and it keeps indicating to uh I have too
1:05:01
many tabs open on my computer. Help.
1:05:06
uh keeps indicating to um Lithion where
1:05:12
you know, oh that that wire should really be over there. This is all wrong. This is and of course Tavin is here
1:05:19
doing his interface thing with the computer and uh you Lelass are of course
1:05:24
using what knowledge you have gleaned from your patron and as much as you can
1:05:30
glean from this metallic ball to uh examine this information. Now the error
1:05:38
logs in the system go back years and examining the date codes on them you can
1:05:44
see you know the the error message started when Remnants Fury started the
1:05:50
dates match up like the exact date the exact date well yes
1:05:57
I'm just going to say yes they're going to say that tracks because that's when the motherboard Yeah they had remnants in here working
1:06:03
to fix the machinery and then and then the thing came back up and has not and out of character sounds
1:06:09
like it's been power cycling. So yeah, so that makes sense.
1:06:14
Uh so yes, it did. You're you're examining these date codes and they aren't quite the same as what's used in
1:06:21
modern in modern parlance, but you can you can see these dates line up with the
1:06:27
remnants fury. And then you see the system came back on sometime
1:06:33
after the remnants fury and has been operating in like a low power mode while
1:06:40
it's tried to repair itself. There's a list of like different
1:06:46
repair technologies, repair systems, and it's a list that goes on and on with
1:06:53
like red text that indicates it's not working. And uh
1:06:58
a lot of it's probably sman. Yeah. Yeah. And there shows that you just have the little ball bouncing up
1:07:03
and down at your feet. Uh and you go on. So recently it is started the repairs
1:07:09
have reached a point slowly over the past couple of years where it's tried to
1:07:14
power up fully, but the power system is
1:07:21
clearly not capable of supporting it. So, it's just gotten it's gotten stuck
1:07:26
in the cycle trying to pull itself up to full power, but there's too much damage
1:07:31
to its power system to come online and stay online.
1:07:37
There windmill we need to fix. If there is, we picked the wrong way in.
1:07:45
Is there an underground windmill? Yes. Is there a any sort of c while
1:07:52
Lelass is direct like uh messing around inside his iPad terminal? Is there
1:08:00
can you search for a way if there's a water supposed to be coming through here and powering a anything? Is there a
1:08:07
generator like that in this facility not getting the power? Yeah, it sounds like
1:08:14
the obvious solution would be to look for things that are off like power sources that are offline. So, let's try
1:08:20
and narrow it down to that. Yeah, trace where it's not
1:08:25
uh you go through this data and you do find a schematic of the facility and it
1:08:31
is it's it's very large. Um but underground
1:08:36
there are some kind of power generation a generator maybe maybe
1:08:44
like Lith is saying uh the water flowing through um the ground windmill.
1:08:49
Yeah. Yep. Obviously didn't do much.
1:08:55
And when you when you first came in you could indeed hear water. you. That's not marked on this diagram, but yes, there
1:09:03
should be power coming from these underground generators. And you see that
1:09:10
all but one of them is currently marked in red on the map. What kind of point they'll say, "All
1:09:16
right, I think these are our culprits. We need to whatever these are, we need to figure out how to fix them at the
1:09:21
very least figure out that that's what's wrong." And then maybe tell the prophet and then maybe she can send a mechanic.
1:09:28
Bring the robot. A technommancer. Yeah, grab guilty spark and let's uh
1:09:39
grab what? Guilty Spark. Guilty Spark.
1:09:44
Yeah. in in Halo when in one of the the ironically in in one of the flood bases
1:09:50
or uh Master Chief encounters a little robot and his name is Guilty Spark and he it's not a spoiler because this game
1:09:57
is 20 years old. It tries to kill you. Oh, it poses as helpful at first and then
1:10:03
it's how it's not at all familiar. Nope. What's like the robot that tricks you in Portal 2 to putting it said instead of
1:10:10
GLaDOS? Yeah. So, uh, I'll I'll show Wheatly the schematic and see if he can guide us
1:10:15
towards the, uh, towards where we're heading.
1:10:22
It It bounces. I mean, it doesn't have eyes, but it
1:10:28
rolls over to the schematic. Examining it ball.
1:10:34
Oh dear. And then it it bounces and rolls away out a different entrance. And
1:10:42
uh we should follow it. It might be going where it's going. It uh heads towards the you think the
1:10:49
center of the facility and hits a spiral staircase going down which it starts
1:10:56
awkwardly climbing down. Bonk bunk bunk. It does. It does. Is there a space in
1:11:02
the center where a person could just um take a rope down or Oh, I you you could if you wanted to. Uh
1:11:10
yes, because it's there's an open space in the center of the spiral that perhaps you could climb through and uh
1:11:18
yeah, you could use uh a roll of some kind. Uh an agility roll. I've got my
1:11:26
grappling tools and well my iconis is basically a grappling tool.
1:11:31
Um I'll give you advantage on this because you do have you have lots of experience climbing and going up and
1:11:36
down. And I have an ability that gives me advantage on it anyway. So it is d6
1:11:42
rolling my d2s 19 plus. So that's 23
1:11:48
with Okay, that uh that is plenty to safely
1:11:53
descend. You use your grappling hook to hang on at the top and climb your way
1:11:59
down gradually. You're you're definitely the first one down. Everyone else, this
1:12:05
ball is, you know, it's funk funk funk. It's moving pretty slowly. And so it's
1:12:11
like the ball in the middle of the stairs and everyone else going one step, two steps, three. You just
1:12:20
making your way down and help. I That's up to anyone else.
1:12:27
I mean, we're following it, so I got to let it keep going. So you do eventually reach the bottom of
1:12:35
the stairs with this ball which leads you into a just a massive open chamber
1:12:42
where you have uh you see water flowing
1:12:47
through a channel that's it's you know it's uh it's a very constructed channel.
1:12:54
You're not on like a a natural river anymore. water flowing through these uh
1:13:02
generators of some kind placed in uh in the middle spanning these channels. Most
1:13:08
of them have been smashed in some way. There are again the remains of robots,
1:13:15
larger robots than this ball that have maybe torn at these things or uh so you
1:13:22
do again the chamber has a lot of damage. And the last one, the one that
1:13:28
was not marked in red on the map is uh there's a panel next to it that's
1:13:34
flickering. And the flickering is like in line with the hums of the
1:13:40
motherboard, which they're increasingly loud down here. But there's also just
1:13:46
one of them working. You can't imagine what this would be like if everything was online. And I'm going to say there
1:13:51
were like maybe a dozen of these things all in a row along the base of the
1:13:57
motherboard below below the motherboard along this channel. Um think we should Tav wants to approach
1:14:04
the last flickering terminal. Okay. Is there anything is it just like blank
1:14:10
flickering or is there any like anything in code that appears on the screen? Uh let's see. Uh, make uh non an
1:14:19
instinct role. That is a six with with fear. Uh, that's not that's that's
1:14:26
not your best role. This what happens when everyone burns when everyone burns good rolls at the
1:14:33
beginning of the game. Um, so there's definitely patterns of code on here, but you're just not understanding. Um, but
1:14:42
you do see in the water you're looking up and down this row of of generators
1:14:49
and you see the previous one, like the next one down the line. One of its
1:14:56
panels or blades has come off and been
1:15:01
pushed by the current up to this one. Hold on. Where is this blade now? Is it blocking another one?
1:15:08
Yeah. Is it blocking something? It's It is pressed up against this generator and
1:15:14
like right at the water line. Okay. Um I want to use my sharp as ice thing,
1:15:21
but I'm going to try to look at all this and figure out like how would I like is
1:15:27
that like how do I get it out? Like could I pull it just pull it out or would I need to stop something from
1:15:33
moving or is the water current too hard? Just trying to understand what I should do here.
1:15:38
Okay. Um, I will say you can give me give me an instinct roll because you're doing this. You could do knowledge, but
1:15:45
I don't think your knowledge is very good. Give me an instinct roll. You're kind of using what you have learned,
1:15:51
what you remember, what you've seen in the past of ancient machinery. Okay. Uh, three on the fear and 12 on
1:15:57
the hope. So, that's 15 + two. Uh, that's 17.
1:16:03
Uh, that is good enough. So, you see all of these machines, they have like uh
1:16:10
flat panels that go under the water. You go up and down this row of things. These
1:16:18
and between these panels are blades or something that spin. And most of them I
1:16:26
these are very large machines. They go very deep into the water and
1:16:34
most of them have been damaged to where the panels have been pushed out of alignment. Most of them the blades may
1:16:42
not be spinning or maybe out of place and so they're blocking water instead of letting it through. And down to this
1:16:49
one, this uh this panel or blade that's come off the previous one is blocking
1:16:55
the water flow to this guy. You think you might just if it's if this one is
1:17:01
still working. You think you might just be able to remove the panel and the water flow might get it might provide
1:17:09
enough power. All right. Um, how far is it within my reach? Giving my
1:17:15
my reach is way more than anybody else's reach. Um, you can borrow my graphing tools, too,
1:17:21
if you need to. Oh, yeah. That's exactly what I was thinking. uh like it's in your reach, but it's
1:17:26
also a very large panel. So, yeah, grappling tools is a great idea to use to maybe grab onto it and maybe lift it.
1:17:34
Maybe we could work together. Maybe uh I'll use my thorn grips. You take my spare tools.
1:17:40
I can fly over to secure it and help lift from that area right above it.
1:17:46
Okay, that's that makes sense. This either sounds like a group action or a tag team role. Tag team. This does sound like a group
1:17:53
action. Uh I mean tag team roll requires someone
1:17:58
to spend three hope to initiate it. Three hope. Tag team roll requires everyone involved
1:18:04
to spend three hope to initiate it. Yeah. I I feel like this is maybe more of a
1:18:09
group action where everyone is rolling and someone is leading the action. Yeah, I'll get involved in this somehow.
1:18:15
And I I feel like uh I feel like Ishvet is leading here. Came up with this idea
1:18:21
that maybe we can lift this panel out. Seems agreed. Okay. So, I'm using the spare tools. Uh
1:18:30
we're having uh I know your name's Stavin, but I can't say it.
1:18:35
Uh you're flying over to attach uh the uh grappling stuff to it, and then we're
1:18:41
going to like coordinate to pull up. Is that what I'm hearing? Yeah, Lethin is going to use her her uh her
1:18:49
device thing to shoot chains over the thing she you grapple people with. Is that Yeah, you doing that?
1:18:54
Yeah, I can I can use them as either a bludgeoning weapon or as hooks. Okay, so you're putting hooks.
1:19:00
Yeah, you're do a good old goat kick. All right. Um
1:19:06
gonna roll then. And uh uh Lelass, what are you doing to contribute to this?
1:19:11
H uh is there some way? So I don't have a lot in the way of brute strength some
1:19:17
way I can like take this apply physics to basically like lever it to like multip actually can you make sure I like if
1:19:24
you're making sure I have like a way to stay up because right now if this
1:19:29
thing's too heavy or whatever I'm going to end up pulling myself into the water. Yeah, that would be bad. Um
1:19:34
so if you could like rope me off. Yeah, I was going to say I've got a rope. I'll I'll try to uh I'll try to
1:19:40
like tie part of it around and then like try to anchor it to something the other half and sounds good.
1:19:47
Yeah. Yeah. There's all sorts of big heavy machinery in here. You don't know what it was used
1:19:53
for. But yeah, you can find something large to tie the rope off to.
1:19:58
Okay. I'm going to say that's that's probably finesse for me. So I'm not adding anything to it. But I will reactions ability to mark a stress. So I
1:20:04
get reaction. Okay. So So yes. So, we all make a reaction roll using the stat we picked. And each one
1:20:09
that succeeds will give I is plus one. Each one of us that fails. Okay, that is a failure.
1:20:17
I'm not helping. 17. Uh, that's a success. So, there's plus
1:20:22
zero right now. Uh, Nick, that's a success. So, plus one on what I assume
1:20:29
will be a strength roll. Yeah, I forget. Yeah. Yeah, I think
1:20:34
that's Oh, man. Oh no. I actually had a camera pointed at my dice.
1:20:40
Uh, one on fear, one on hope.
1:20:48
Critical, baby. That is that is incredible. So, yes,
1:20:55
it's you're you're hanging on to this uh grappling chain that uh that Lithium had
1:21:02
managed to hook around it and you're you're pulling and it's like you're
1:21:08
you're slipping you're slipping towards it and you just think I'm not going to be beaten by this stupid panel in the
1:21:16
water. I'm not letting this defeat me. This is I'm a giant. I can do this. this
1:21:22
is my thing. And you just just focus up and you just pull
1:21:28
until it's hauled out of the water and you have Tavin up there uh helping to
1:21:34
kind of guide it and bring it back onto up onto the uh onto the platform you're
1:21:41
on. He's walking away, too. Yeah, it's it's an effort and I imagine everyone is
1:21:49
trying to help pull, but Not everyone here is very strong. So you
1:21:54
pull this out and up and as you do the water flow comes back. You start to hear
1:22:01
this humming of this thing of this system powering up. Where is whereas it
1:22:07
was previously it was doing that up down up down quiet. It's It's a steady buzz
1:22:15
and it goes up up up up and then it levels off and the lights in the room
1:22:20
stop flickering. Yay. They aren't all on but the ones that are on are no longer flickering and your
1:22:27
little ball guy is bouncing up and down. I think it's happy. It uh it Oh, I was going to say it does
1:22:34
that when it's happy, but it kind of does that for everything, but it does it more when it's happy. It's It's an kind of bounce, I guess. Is
1:22:42
it a good bounce? Uh, can we still check the schematic diagram on the on the iPad?
1:22:48
Yes. Yes. On the legal on the legally distinct iPad. Actually turned that into the Amazon Fire. No.
1:22:56
Um, so yes, you pull up you pull up your tablet. Completely generic normal
1:23:03
unbranded tablet. And you do see this this one is lit up in green. Now, the
1:23:11
rest are still in red, but this does seem like it's enough to generate power
1:23:16
from the facility. Behind you, a you hear a terminal powering up that
1:23:23
just little whine as something turns on and powers up.
1:23:29
Okay. And uh as you all turn towards the sound
1:23:34
and the ball rolls over to it, give you kind of bumping against the terminal. uh
1:23:39
a projection appears above it and it flickers a little. At first it's a
1:23:46
Qatari, then it's an elf. It's like a an image of a person and it flickers
1:23:52
flickers and you hear it making those shrieking noises, you know, like the dialup modem sounds,
1:23:59
right? And Yeah, because that's that's what it does. Uh, it flickers until it turns
1:24:05
into an image of a giant, a threeeyed giant looking down at you. It does some
1:24:11
more shrieking. Oh, and then it says it feels like
1:24:17
Yeah, it's it's up on a plat like it's displayed on top of the terminal. So,
1:24:22
it's like full grown giant size, but it's projected on top of it's it's looking down at everyone like way way
1:24:29
down. And it says, "Thank you. Powering up." I think I'm actually startled to hear it
1:24:34
speak the common tongue since it just tried to communicate in code. Yeah. Yeah. That's the most jarring thing
1:24:39
about Yes. It spent it spent a while making shrieking noises and flickering and uh
1:24:45
Yeah. Then it it flipped around into just standard speech. And I am going to say because we've been at this for a
1:24:51
while that this is where our story ends. You have powered the motherboard back up
1:24:56
in some form or another. You have discovered some new kind of ancient technology that you did not know
1:25:04
existed. I'm not sure if any of you have seen holograms of this nature before. And uh new
1:25:12
new mysteries and we got shiny robot ball. Yeah, you did you did meet a shiny robot ball
1:25:21
lonely trying to repair this facility by itself. And it's just it's just a little
1:25:27
guy in a big world. Little guy. Okay. Okay. Well, that's a good place. Thanks, Liz. We appreciate
1:25:33
you running it for us. That was great. Yeah, that was fun. Yeah, it was fun. I This is something that could continue
1:25:39
a long time, but that's kind of that's kind of the stopping point for now. You can just imagine future adventures might
1:25:47
be on the horizon. So, thank you all for showing up and playing this game and bringing all of your weird ideas and
1:25:55
magic users to this non-magical world that we live in. Uh,
1:26:01
yeah, we have powers.
1:26:06
I It's fun. It's fun to do weird things. Um, we have had uh we again we have been
1:26:13
playing Daggerheart, the release version of the game. We have had two play test classes in here with Matt playing a
1:26:21
fighter and Phil playing a warlock. So, that was that was an interesting twist
1:26:27
because we couldn't just play a brand new game. We had to play a brand new game that already has play test classes
1:26:33
out there to make it even more weird. So, thank you everyone for listening.
1:26:39
Thank you everyone for playing. Anyone has any closing things they'd like to add? Yep. Then I think
1:26:45
yeah, I had I had some thoughts about the uh the character creation system that we
1:26:51
didn't really get into in the system. Um I liked that it was collaborative,
1:26:57
like you're actually helping each other build their character. Yeah, I think it's really cool. And one
1:27:03
of the things that's really neat in Daggerart that we didn't really do is
1:27:08
that it has a system that encourages you to all build the world, you know, to add
1:27:16
places and locations and things to it. We didn't really get into that because we're just we're playing a oneshot, but
1:27:23
it it encourages collaboration and collaborative storytelling. And
1:27:28
I I put a haunted mine in there. Yeah, we have some places. There was a haunted mine. It's true.
1:27:34
It's It's not really that we didn't do it so much as you don't really get unless unless you set the one shot directly in a place that we had really
1:27:40
those places, you know. We've got Red Canyon, we've got the the Sanctum of Knowledge, aka
1:27:45
Sanctum of Knowledge, Haunted Mind full of frozen dwarves, you know. Yep. So,
1:27:52
uh so yes, thank you everyone for listening. Thank you everyone to playing. And that is it. Blizzard is
