We got a special treat this week as our Aussie columnist and player housing enthusiast Sara Hanson joined the podcast. She walked us through a lot of the very recent changes to how certain player housing features work, and discusses some of the things the housing community is trying to uncover, like which pets do what when they're hanging out, now that we can add them. She also has strong opinions on transmog, much like the rest of our hosts, so they had to discuss both the new cash shop offerings and this month's Trading Post, which we got an advance preview of. And not only an advance preview, but this one will bring back a bunch of older offerings as well, for a Trading Post megamix.
Also something something Mythic Raiding race, or whatever. You know we're focused on the real end game, here.
We also waded through some Gamescom news, which included CD Projekt Red teaming up with Blizzard, bringing The Witcher to the Battle.net launcher — and teasing some future announcements for BlizzCon. Of course, Matt thinks this means Cyberpunk on the Battle.net launcher, but Cory isn't the only one who can huff hopium around here. But Gamescom isn't all sunshine — several projects showcased are apparently using AI heavily in their development process. If I were a sim, I would have two red minus signs above my head in Crazy Taxi's general direction right now.

Hello everybody and welcome to the
0:12
Blizzard Watch podcast. Just the
0:15
podcast. I was going to say pre-show. I
0:16
apologize. Anyway, this is the podcast
0:18
we talk about Blizzard and its many
0:20
games. I'm Matt. With us is special
0:22
guest Sarah and of course our alltime
0:24
always here absolute stalwarts. They are
0:26
the salt of our earth. Liz Harper and
0:29
Joe Perez. Hi everybody.
0:32
>> Hello.
0:33
>> I once flew through space in a game with
0:35
Barney the dinosaur who had a third arm
0:37
thrown out of his chest.
0:38
>> You should listen to You should become a
0:40
Patreon subscriber and listen to the
0:41
pre-show and you'll understand that one.
0:43
>> Or just become a Patreon and so we can
0:45
keep doing this podcast.
0:47
>> I I I was here for the pre-show and I
0:49
still don't understand what's going on.
0:51
So
0:51
>> me,
0:52
>> that's pretty much our our brand,
0:53
[laughter] isn't it?
0:55
Okay, let's talk about things going on.
0:58
>> Well, we should do a better job of
1:00
selling ourselves, but here we are. Here
1:02
we are doing our best in a complicated
1:04
world.
1:05
>> Yes, we're aware of what we who and what
1:07
we are. Okay, World of Warcraft. You can
1:09
now move your house's entrance
1:12
>> when you're doing housing in realm.
1:15
>> What's What is this sorcery? So, there
1:19
is a room called the entry room, which
1:22
is where you spawn in when you enter
1:25
your house. Um, originally it was in a
1:28
fixed location on the ground floor. Um,
1:31
it was an advertised feature for 12.1
1:33
that you would be able to move that
1:35
room. Uh but when it went live a couple
1:38
of weeks back that feature was turned
1:40
off because you were randomly porting
1:42
into the void into a uh loop which was
1:46
uh not great. They have turned it back
1:49
on with this week's reset and it is
1:52
working. We have tested it. So the thing
1:54
that everybody seems to misunderstand
1:55
about it is you have to move the
1:57
entrance room. You don't move the door.
1:59
The door is a way to exit, not where you
2:02
enter.
2:03
Um, so you go into the uh room planner
2:09
section of the tool where you place
2:11
rooms. You select the entry room, select
2:14
the move option, and then you can scroll
2:15
up floors to move it to a new location.
2:19
I will be writing something up later
2:20
today. Um, it's a little bit fiddly, but
2:23
you can do it. And probably the gotcha
2:25
that people need to know is if you reset
2:26
your house, it puts it back to its
2:28
starting position. But by moving it
2:30
upstairs, you can create basements now,
2:32
which everybody wanted.
2:34
>> That's pretty cool.
2:35
>> So that's how that works.
2:36
>> That's pretty cool. And also, I'm gonna
2:38
say that entering my house and finding
2:40
myself in a horrifying void doesn't
2:42
actually strike me as unusual. It seems
2:44
to happen relatively frequently. So I
2:46
need to have to talk with the people
2:47
who've allowed me to enter and exit my
2:50
own house because that's just no. I
2:52
mean, in the real world, by the way, I'm
2:53
not talking about game. Uh but yeah,
2:56
that's I'm actually really interested in
2:59
that. Like how far can we push this? Can
3:01
you like put the like how many floors
3:02
can
3:03
>> The current cap is 100 floors.
3:05
>> So you could put it on the top floor
3:07
though. You could put this all the way
3:08
up there.
3:09
>> You That would take a bit of work. So um
3:12
the current floor limit is 100 floors,
3:15
but you wouldn't have the room placement
3:17
budget at level 12 to build 100 floors
3:20
at the moment. So what you would have to
3:21
do is build a staircase up, move your
3:24
entry room, delete the room, the layers
3:26
below it, build up, move your entry
3:30
floor, repeat until you get up the top.
3:33
There has certainly been a lot of
3:34
discussion on the housing discords of uh
3:38
making leap of faith entries
3:41
um and whether we're actually going to
3:43
put invisible paths in or not. Whether
3:46
you just have to jump or whether you're
3:48
going to walk and have faith coming into
3:51
the entry and apparently seven floors is
3:54
the guaranteed to kill you drop.
3:57
This has been tested. All I can hear
3:59
[laughter] in my head is in the Latin
4:01
Jehovah starts with an I. Just imagine.
4:04
>> Yeah. [laughter]
4:05
>> Yeah. So, there's a few of us planning
4:08
to do something like that. And I thought
4:09
I'd like to do this for later today
4:11
given it's the home warming week
4:13
>> for um housewarming week for the weekly
4:16
quest.
4:17
>> I like home warming now. I wish I
4:21
>> welcome to home warming. Are you burning
4:22
my house? It will heat eventually. It's
4:25
morning here.
4:27
>> All right. Uh, also I do to the white
4:30
list, please.
4:31
>> I know. Uh, Sarah, you've done a lot
4:33
more with housing than I think any of us
4:35
have. Maybe I know Joe has been doing
4:37
some cool things. Do you have any What's
4:40
Are there any other highlights that came
4:41
out in this week's reset? Because this
4:43
the the door thing didn't come out in
4:45
the patch notes today, but uh I don't
4:48
know.
4:48
>> So, it has been tested. So, came came
4:51
out in this week's reset. Um,
4:54
to the best of my knowledge, no. The
4:56
other thing that people have been asking
4:58
about is the spiral staircase. Is it
5:00
dyable yet? I haven't seen anyone verify
5:02
if it is yet and I haven't tested it
5:04
personally.
5:05
>> I'm hoping so. That's on my list of
5:06
things that I would like to use that I
5:08
need to I need to dye it though,
5:09
otherwise it won't match and it will
5:10
drive me crazy.
5:11
>> Yeah.
5:12
>> Um I did see some reports when I was
5:14
catching up with the messages overnight
5:16
that the objects moving is back. So
5:20
hopefully not. Um, so there's a there's
5:23
a known issue with rotation of objects
5:26
where they sometimes skip backwards
5:29
after you leave the area. So, um,
5:33
I'm trying to think the easiest way to
5:35
describe this. So,
5:38
houses are basically stateless.
5:41
>> So, that's why things like if you leave
5:42
a door open and then you leave your
5:44
house, you come back, it's now closed.
5:46
or the the omni what's it thing that
5:49
changes the lighting resets when people
5:51
leave the house. Um there's a bug with
5:55
rotation of object and I think it has to
5:59
do with which axes you rotate on first
6:02
and whether you use the shift key which
6:04
allows you to do
6:06
>> uh fixed increment rotation around the
6:08
free rotation.
6:09
>> Yeah. where it sometimes flips back to a
6:11
previous position when you leave the
6:13
space and people are now seeing it in
6:15
real time which is exc
6:18
um so I know that they thought they had
6:20
a fix for that. I don't know if it's
6:22
reverted with one of the other things
6:24
they've fixed in the patch. I need to do
6:26
a bit of testing on that. Um stuff that
6:29
was
6:31
>> stuff that was in um the discussion last
6:34
week people have discovered the jetpack.
6:37
So, the um
6:41
Mechagon Endeavor
6:44
uh vendor decor vendor that that pops
6:48
up. So, if you weren't aware,
6:50
>> once you once you've completed an
6:52
endeavor to its full, the vendor can
6:55
randomly pop up next to your notice
6:57
board.
6:59
Um if the neighborhood is empty for 15
7:01
minutes, it will reset which vendor is
7:04
there. Um, the Mechagon vendor can sell
7:08
a jetpack that you can use inside your
7:10
house and it's supposedly good for about
7:13
24 hours. Does does vanish eventually.
7:17
So, if you're doing big builds where
7:20
line of sight is terrible to see what
7:23
you're doing because you're placing
7:24
stuff up in the air, you can use the
7:25
jetpack to kind of float
7:27
>> halfway up the room while you're working
7:29
on stuff.
7:30
>> Um, so have a look out for that guy. Um,
7:35
what else come up?
7:38
People have been messing around with
7:39
pets a bit more. Um, there is a
7:42
spreadsheet going on the WIA website
7:45
where we're collecting and tracking what
7:47
are the behaviors of all the different
7:49
>> pet
7:50
>> because some of them behave differently
7:53
than you would expect. So, which ones
7:55
have emotes that they have like a idle
7:58
emote that actually plays out while it's
8:01
in the house of the flying pets? which
8:02
ones genuinely fly and which ones just
8:04
kind of float in place.
8:06
>> Um, so we're tracking all of that,
8:08
building that together as a resource.
8:12
Um,
8:14
I'm trying to think else what else is
8:16
new. There was a number of things added
8:18
in the pouch. Oh, we should see a new
8:21
endeavor next week.
8:24
>> Yeah, I think we have one week left on
8:26
our current endeavor, which right now
8:27
everyone has the same
8:28
>> six days.
8:30
>> Yeah, everyone's on the same one. will
8:32
have the three new ones will be in the
8:34
rotation next week.
8:36
>> I'm looking forward to it.
8:39
>> Everyone wants the tortolan one.
8:41
>> Mhm. Oh, who doesn't love a tortol one?
8:46
>> Yeah. Um they also found there's there's
8:50
a vendor in the bar in the underwater
8:54
tortolan bar that has stuff on it that
8:56
isn't currently accessible,
8:59
>> but they they found it through data
9:00
mining. So, we're waiting to see what he
9:02
has.
9:05
>> Okay, that's cool. I was just wondering
9:06
if we had any other new surprises.
9:09
>> Housing does seeming
9:12
maybe 1215 to be up on the service later
9:15
in the week on PTR. So, we hope to have
9:18
more than
9:19
>> I think that's really likely. It's going
9:20
to be up any day now.
9:22
>> Yeah,
9:23
it's it's been on the server but
9:26
encrypted for about a week and a half.
9:28
Mhm.
9:31
Blizzard is getting really big on as
9:33
soon as one patch goes up, the next
9:34
patch is up on the PTR. So, honestly, if
9:37
it even feels like we've waited, there's
9:39
been a gap between these, which is kind
9:41
of surprising.
9:43
>> Uh the speculation I saw this morning
9:45
was waiting for the last story patch to
9:47
go up so that they didn't
9:48
>> Yeah, that would make sense, too.
9:50
>> End of the raid
9:51
>> because story mode was open today.
9:53
>> Mhm.
9:57
>> Okay. Um, we should probably also talk
10:00
about the uh what do you want to call it
10:02
again? The trading post because that's
10:04
what it is actually called. Um, sorry,
10:06
brain was just freaking there. Uh,
10:08
trading post for September. Uh, that's
10:10
got a preview up now. Uh, because it'll
10:13
be here in about a week, less than a
10:16
week, right?
10:17
>> That's how time works.
10:19
>> Yes, it is how time works. Uh, I'm
10:21
sorry. I'm looking at a picture of this
10:23
what you're calling the chameleon mount
10:24
and I'm looking at it and thinking does
10:26
this thing lick its eyes because it
10:27
looks like it's going to lick its eyes.
10:29
And honestly, if it does lick its eyes,
10:31
I don't I don't want
10:32
>> I I mean and it comes in, you know, it's
10:35
a it's a chameleon, but also
10:39
it comes in it comes in multiple colors,
10:41
doesn't it? And it seems like it's
10:43
chameleon. It should just be it should
10:45
be one with
10:48
>> should you can buy and one you get for
10:51
completing the bar.
10:52
>> Yeah, but if it's a chameleon, shouldn't
10:55
it just change colors? So, you get one
10:56
and you get all of the colors.
10:58
>> That's not just me trying to cheat.
11:00
That's not just me trying to cheat into
11:02
getting more trader tender to spend.
11:04
>> I think this just seems obvious.
11:06
>> This just feels like someone trying to
11:08
cheat treat cheat into getting more
11:09
mounts so they don't have to like they
11:11
can get the mount achievements easier.
11:13
That's what that sounds like to me. Uh,
11:15
but regardless, uh, I will say that the
11:18
some of the weapon mods are really the
11:20
weapon mods here are actually really
11:21
cool. Um, some of them I've seen before,
11:24
but the new axe is really nice. There's
11:26
a two-handed axe that I've it I'm sure
11:28
it existed before, but I haven't seen
11:30
it. It It's nice. Uh, it's got a nice
11:32
glow to the edge. It looks vaguely like
11:35
one from uh, Burning Crusade, but it's
11:37
not that one. There's a lot of reruns in
11:41
this new trading post, too, which isn't
11:43
isn't necessarily bad. I mean, you can
11:45
always use time to catch up. I couldn't
11:47
buy all the cowboy transmogs this month,
11:49
so I still have one that I need to get,
11:51
which is
11:52
>> Did you freeze?
11:53
>> Very concerning. I I fro I froze it. I
11:56
froze it. I'm getting this. I'm getting
11:57
this cowboy outfit. I I only have two.
12:00
>> I do like the new high boots.
12:03
>> I think they work really well with quite
12:04
a few outfits.
12:06
>> They do. They do. So,
12:12
uh, but yeah, sometimes it's nice to
12:14
have a week where there's less to buy.
12:16
Except
12:18
Except there's another problem here. I'm
12:20
talking about having less to buy and I
12:21
still need to buy extra cowboy outfit.
12:25
Um, this is another big month. They're
12:27
bringing back all of the they're going
12:29
to have all of the, you know, uh,
12:31
usually for the anniversary of the
12:32
trading post in fe February, they have
12:35
all the extra vendors selling extra
12:37
stuff. This is going to be one of those
12:39
months. We're going to have our extra
12:40
vendors out with uh more more runs. So,
12:43
if you've missed things in the past,
12:44
this will be a month you can pick it up,
12:47
>> which of course will require you to get
12:49
more tenders.
12:50
>> Exactly. So, I'm kind of I'm trapped.
12:52
I'm trapped, but I'm gonna get that
12:54
cowboy outfit as soon as September rolls
12:56
around.
12:57
>> This reminds me, though. Um, have you
12:59
guys ever like heard someone talk about
13:01
wanting to raise chickens?
13:05
>> I don't think so.
13:06
>> Well, if you ever did, that person would
13:08
be a chicken tender.
13:12
[laughter]
13:13
>> And that's where we are. Okay,
13:15
>> that's um
13:16
>> I told you I hadn't gotten a lot of rest
13:18
lately. Um, but you know, I I'm always
13:21
happy for the trading post. So, I'm
13:22
happy to see one with more vendors. It's
13:24
not going to bother me. But trade, you
13:26
know, you do find yourself in a position
13:28
of trying desperately to ek more tenders
13:31
out because trading is tender is not
13:33
necessarily easy to get.
13:35
>> It's not a renewable resource
13:36
>> comparing to what you might want.
13:38
>> It's also a finite resource every month,
13:40
right? Like you can only get
13:41
>> You can only get so much.
13:43
>> Uh, but
13:44
>> Yep. And everyone function gets the same
13:47
if they fill the bar.
13:49
>> And there's also I guess there's there's
13:52
shop transmogs which means you know now
13:54
you can spend real money too which is
13:56
what I was looking for.
13:57
>> I mean to be fair though like I I I
14:00
don't mind real money transmogs but
14:02
these are pretty or at least
14:04
>> these are real pretty. I am so tempted.
14:06
I am so tell me not to buy these Joe.
14:08
>> I can't because I'm probably going to
14:10
buy one. Liz.
14:11
>> Oh okay. I did actually buy them just
14:14
for the skirts,
14:16
>> right?
14:17
>> Listen, listen. Playing playing dress up
14:19
with my digital dolly is like one of my
14:21
favorite things to do during the week.
14:22
[laughter and gasps] That red skirt. Oh,
14:24
it's so fetch.
14:25
>> See, for me, it's not the red skirt,
14:28
it's the hat.
14:29
>> So, someone someone describe what these
14:32
looks like because we are not a visual
14:35
>> flower related. This is this is
14:37
legitimately like are you a magical like
14:40
magical girl? Are you like Sailor Moon
14:42
transforming to fight crime or beat back
14:45
uh the snakes on an island that Liz
14:47
never wants to go to and you want to do
14:49
it while wearing flowers of the various
14:50
seasons? Here you go. Uh oh. Like the
14:54
colorways are so pretty though. Like the
14:56
orange, white, and gold one in
14:58
particular is just so so beautiful.
15:03
>> Sorry.
15:04
>> I got excited.
15:05
>> Yeah. I mean, if you're if you're
15:06
looking for it's all about the floral
15:09
looks in, you know, there's a pink,
15:11
purple, there's a white, red, gold,
15:14
there's a straighton red, black, silver,
15:18
and a blue and gold. I love them all. I
15:22
love them all.
15:23
>> My only complaint are the boots. They
15:25
should be high. They should be high
15:26
boots. They should be above the knees.
15:28
>> These should be These should be thigh
15:30
high boots. Yep. that have coordinating
15:33
colors and instead they're kind of
15:35
>> they're all they're just plain leather
15:38
boots.
15:38
>> Well, they're almost like swatch.
15:40
>> I was surprised how much exposed belly
15:43
there was on it and that um Wow had used
15:46
the pandering for their model viewer
15:48
version of them
15:49
>> as is right and proper.
15:52
>> One thing I do like about some of the
15:53
transmogs they've been doing lately,
15:55
some of the sets
15:57
is that sometimes they'll sell set that
15:59
has multiple options. M
16:02
>> like you might have one that's a skirt,
16:03
but also you could have a skirt and
16:05
you're also wearing pants. So they've
16:07
done some transmog looks like that. So
16:09
you can, you know, you can choose how
16:10
scantily cloudy you want to be or how
16:12
dressed up you want to be, you know. And
16:14
this is just all of these have the same
16:16
look. They're midrift bearing. There are
16:18
no pants, but it's just uh a skirt in
16:23
quotation marks.
16:24
>> The midnight high boot works quite well
16:26
with the red outfit. I'm just
16:28
>> It does. Yeah. Uh, I will I do want to
16:30
call out the I do want to call I do want
16:32
to call out the price on this real quick
16:33
because I think that's also important.
16:35
There are four there are four variations
16:37
of this. There's the sunlet pedal weave,
16:39
>> uh, the blush pedal weave, the azure
16:42
pedal weave, and the scarlet pedal weave
16:43
ensemble. Each of those will run you
16:45
about $20 USD. Or for $40 USD, you can
16:50
buy the entire collection, which gets
16:52
you all four transm
16:54
>> It's a trap. And I want it.
16:56
>> Honestly, I'm not mad at that. Like I
16:58
know we we we complain about some
17:00
predatory pricing sometimes, but like
17:02
this is less than a skin in most moas or
17:06
hero shooters
17:08
>> or Diablo I
17:09
>> or Diablo I this is like a tenth of a
17:11
skin in Diablo I
17:13
>> as an FYI that
17:16
>> flowing flame effect that looks like on
17:18
the it's on the skirt is actually on the
17:20
cloak.
17:21
>> That makes sense cuz the cloak is the
17:22
the bed of looks like the bed of flowers
17:23
coming down.
17:25
>> Yeah.
17:25
>> Yeah. But that means you could mix and
17:27
match that cloak with more things and
17:29
have like
17:32
>> Oh man, I need this. Oh boy. I
17:35
>> And I think it's the wrist. No, it's the
17:38
hand. Uh like a um boil
17:43
sleeve up to a band around the upper arm
17:46
and then there's a metal band around the
17:48
wrist.
17:49
>> Yeah, they've been doing a lot of transw
17:51
that in the in the training post, too.
17:53
like the really like long sleeves, like
17:55
the the long the long sleeves, long
17:57
gloves all the way up the arm. So, I'm
18:00
happy to see that they're continuing to
18:01
explore that space.
18:03
>> I would I would have liked this a little
18:05
more if there was an alternate option
18:07
with pants because I feel like I'm
18:10
fighting snakes on an island full of
18:12
poison. I would like to wear pants and
18:15
really protective boots and this does
18:18
not this does not hit this. Yeah.
18:21
>> Yeah. Yeah. We're walking in poison all
18:23
the time.
18:24
>> Whilst we're talking about this though,
18:26
there's also the Hearthkeepers wandering
18:27
caravan mount available for purchase.
18:30
>> Uh, and it is, as far as I can tell,
18:32
it's a yak. Is that like a yak or a
18:35
yongol? I can't even tell.
18:36
>> Oh, it has a mailbox and a repair
18:39
vendor.
18:40
>> Yeah.
18:40
>> And it has an interact item on the back
18:44
where you can kind of sit in it. And
18:46
there's speculation that at a later
18:47
point it might be entry to your house,
18:49
but we don't. Oh my god, that would be
18:53
amazing.
18:54
>> Oh man,
18:56
that would be that would be so much.
18:58
That
18:58
>> that was so much.
18:59
>> I saw that I think on Reddit this
19:02
morning. I don't know how well informed.
19:04
>> Right now it just says in there on the
19:06
Blizzard page for it. It just says uh
19:09
click on the caravan home entrance to
19:11
put your character into the hut. It does
19:13
not say to make him go to his own house
19:16
>> yet. But even if it's just even if it's
19:18
just going to your it's like a caravan
19:21
aka modern trailer home, I'd still think
19:23
it's cool just because it's like I'm a
19:25
wanderer. This is my mount and I live on
19:27
it.
19:28
>> That would be the only thing I can think
19:30
is, you know, if they were doing that,
19:32
why wouldn't you just advertise that
19:34
straight out? This is a store mount. Why
19:37
not just say that?
19:38
>> Technical limitation would be my guess.
19:40
Uh probably something to do with how to
19:42
do it yet. They pro well I mean they
19:44
probably do but the I think the issue is
19:45
like so right now you can teleport to
19:47
your house
19:48
>> using the in-game interface and that has
19:51
a cool down of insert x minutes here.
19:54
>> Um they would either have to implement
19:56
something similar with a cool down here
19:57
and basically just have it be an
19:59
interface for you essentially clicking
20:01
that button but then they one of the
20:03
things you can do is return from your
20:05
home to where you entered your home from
20:08
in the world where you teleported from.
20:10
And I bet you that's the technical
20:11
limitation is getting you back into the
20:14
world on that mount specifically. So
20:18
that would be that would be my guess. I
20:20
I don't know if I'm right or not, but
20:21
that that's what my programmer gut is
20:23
telling me.
20:25
>> So if you click on the entrance,
20:28
it ports you in and out of the seat on
20:30
the front with a little puff of
20:32
>> Mhm.
20:33
>> cute. It's a cute mount. I was about to
20:34
say it's a cute little mount, but it's
20:36
not a little mount. It's a tiny house on
20:38
top of
20:39
>> on top of a yak. Yes, it's huge.
20:41
>> Yep.
20:42
>> Mhm.
20:43
>> We should take it We should take it to
20:44
Mr. Pandar and take it through the yak
20:45
wash.
20:47
>> I could the yakwash handle
20:49
>> standing next to So, it's the same size
20:52
yak as the tundra mammoth.
20:56
>> Mhm.
20:57
>> Because I'm standing next to him.
21:02
>> All right. Well, we also have um some
21:04
class changes coming. uh that actually
21:07
already out I believe.
21:08
>> Yeah,
21:08
>> I believe we can call them class changes
21:10
or we can call those hot fixes, but I
21:12
think they're more close to hot fixes.
21:14
>> I mean
21:15
>> I mean we're calling out hot fixes here
21:17
in their notes, but some of them
21:21
>> last week Blizzard talked about their
21:23
schedule for class changes which was
21:25
going to be there was one last week,
21:26
there's another one that went out this
21:28
week and I think the
21:31
I think the next one's going to be
21:33
September. We're gonna slow down a
21:35
little bit because this
21:37
it usually feels like Blizzard takes a
21:40
little break on race to world first and
21:41
tries to get the things set up and then
21:44
let Race to World first run and then
21:46
come back to it if need be. Uh but
21:49
they're kind of it feels like they're
21:50
being a little aggressive with jumping
21:52
in with class hot fixes, class hot
21:53
fixes, class hot fixes that are playing
21:57
around with class balance. This week's I
21:59
don't think I don't think anyone's going
22:01
to be unhappy with this week's because
22:03
it mostly seems to be focused on
22:05
bringing up specs that Blizzard feels
22:07
are underperforming.
22:10
Though there are some in which Blizzard
22:12
has like brought something down and
22:14
brought something else up to sort of
22:15
balance things out. But I think I think
22:18
these are all good. If these hit you mo
22:20
they're they're mostly good. It's mostly
22:22
good. That's what I'm going to say.
22:24
I just think it's interesting that
22:25
there's also a bunch of PvP changes at
22:27
the same time and the PvP changes seem a
22:30
beast around healing or self-healing.
22:32
Uh so yeah, that's interesting. Um but
22:36
yeah, otherwise it's just there's some
22:38
quests, there's some prey stuff. Those
22:40
are straight up bug fixes.
22:41
>> Yeah, we're still, you know, we're
22:43
several weeks into the patch and we're
22:44
still doing a lot of bug fixes. Uh this
22:49
is a finicky one. I mean, this isn't
22:52
this isn't a bad patch. We aren't, this
22:54
isn't too bad, but yeah, we are
22:56
continuing to get patch fixes and bug
22:58
fixes. And I, this is probably going to
23:01
be hot fixed before this podcast is out
23:03
there. But one of the things is that
23:06
supposedly if you get something out of
23:07
your vault this week, you can't catalyze
23:09
it, that the things from the vault are
23:11
marked as non-catalyzable,
23:13
which that's that's not great because a
23:16
lot of people, if you're playing this
23:18
game, you're probably chasing tier right
23:19
now. That's going to be your kind of
23:22
biggest upgrade is getting two-piece and
23:24
four piece of tier. And if you're
23:26
grabbing something out of the vault
23:27
saying, "Oh, this is a high highle
23:28
piece. I can stick it in the catalyst
23:30
and get a tier piece." That's pretty
23:33
disappointing. So, we are continuing to
23:35
see little finicky little bugs that can
23:37
be I'll call them frustrating.
23:42
>> Probably not the end of the world, but
23:43
frustrating.
23:45
The other thing that came up about
23:46
catalyst
23:48
this over the last couple of days, at
23:51
least within my guild, is that we're
23:54
seeing reports that if you've got
23:55
something like a mythic plus piece that
23:57
you catalyze into tier, it retains the
24:00
secondary stats from the item that you
24:03
catalyze.
24:05
>> Yeah. So, it's resulting in people who
24:08
already functionally have tier because
24:11
they
24:12
are catalyzed a piece competing with
24:14
people who haven't had the opportunity
24:17
to get it yet in raid uh looking for
24:21
loot. Um,
24:23
>> so that's creating as well. So, people
24:26
are trying to optimize the the version
24:28
of the tier that they're getting.
24:29
>> Yeah, I'd read that that was an
24:31
intentional change and not a bug though,
24:34
but I don't know. Yeah, I don't think it
24:36
was very well.
24:38
>> Yeah, it definitely wasn't communicated
24:41
>> because there's always
24:42
>> some issues.
24:44
>> There's always at least one piece of
24:46
tier that is like the unfavored piece of
24:49
tier to equip because it has poor stats
24:52
for your class.
24:53
>> So, if you can pick a piece of gear and
24:57
then just that has good stats and then
24:59
turn it into tier, that's that's great
25:02
for optimization. But
25:03
>> sure,
25:04
>> but yeah, at the same time, it's like,
25:05
okay, I don't have any tier, and now
25:08
you're just trying to perfect your
25:09
stats.
25:10
>> Uh, yeah, that's kind of gear
25:12
frustration all over the place there.
25:14
>> In hindsight, they should probably name
25:16
it. They should have named the character
25:18
from the last expansion
25:20
>> something other than Tier
25:22
>> because I we were talking about that guy
25:25
>> and I'm like, why do you have pieces of
25:26
him? We just fixed him. [laughter]
25:28
>> That's two expansions ago now, but you
25:30
know, whatever. We just fixed the guy.
25:32
And now you're ripping him apart for his
25:33
parts. What is going on with this?
25:36
>> I mean, you know, I don't think Blizzard
25:38
was planning this for our head back
25:40
then.
25:40
>> Yeah. No, I know.
25:42
>> Wish they had called either called him
25:44
something else or called it something
25:46
else instead of gear gear. They could
25:48
have called it something else. I don't
25:49
know what setge gear, whatever. Um
25:52
>> the the the other thing I'm constantly
25:54
getting caught up is is Valyria and
25:57
Verissa. Both are who in kind of players
26:01
in this expansion cycle and their names
26:03
are so similar that I I constantly
26:06
confuse who is who. It's like, okay, one
26:08
wears red and one wears blue. Maybe you
26:11
could color code their names somehow.
26:13
>> Uh but also, uh this is one that I know
26:16
you guys love, so I'm glad I will be
26:18
mentioning it. Um, world first mythic
26:21
rating that we're on the race. We're
26:23
we're trying to get to world first here
26:25
and we're finally doing mythics. So, I
26:27
guess they're finally done with all the
26:29
running other runs, splits, and stuff.
26:31
>> Well, you know, the thing is, yes, they
26:34
have moved on to mythics, but now we're
26:35
up to a weekly reset again. And weekly
26:38
reset means that they can go back to
26:40
running splits on heroic.
26:43
So, reset day is not the most exciting
26:45
day in the world first race. Uh but yes,
26:49
we were doing uh a lot of split. Last
26:52
week was mostly splits and it took quite
26:54
a while to actually get some of the
26:56
first kills on the antier bosses. Even
26:58
on heroic, the uh the raid has some bugs
27:02
and of course they don't always test
27:05
everything. We we haven't even gotten to
27:06
the last boss on mythic. We're not even
27:08
close. So there there are some things in
27:12
here that haven't been seen, haven't
27:13
been tested at all. So, we may be seeing
27:15
more buggy weeks. I think the most
27:18
interesting thing so far is that uh
27:20
Method has come in and gotten two world
27:22
first kills on and they they've really
27:26
been kind of out of the world first
27:27
game. They've been a solid third placer
27:30
for several a number of races. And I
27:32
don't really want to go into kind of the
27:36
scandal there, but uh Method sort of
27:38
broke up and a lot of them went and
27:40
formed Ekko and Method has been working
27:43
on rebuilding and it seems like they
27:46
finally got they finally got their
27:48
they've really gotten into the race. Uh,
27:50
they killed Vashnik in nine polls and
27:54
they killed Srock in Okay, I don't have
27:58
a poll count for that, but yes. So,
28:00
we've gotten we've got two world first
28:03
and Method is currently in the lead,
28:06
but we're also on reset day, so
28:08
everyone's everyone's doing their uh
28:11
getting their mythics for the weekend,
28:13
getting their uh splits in. So, we may
28:16
not see much movement from like the big
28:19
names uh for for another day or two.
28:23
>> Was it one of the Korean guilds got one
28:25
of the first kill
28:27
for the the first boss or something? Was
28:30
a no I didn't recognize.
28:31
>> I don't think so. Um,
28:34
Consequence is Consequence an Australian
28:36
guild?
28:38
I may be mixing them up with honestly. I
28:40
know Honestly is an Australian guild.
28:43
So, I don't think so.
28:46
>> [laughter]
28:47
>> There's a few more of us over here than
28:49
that.
28:51
>> Hey, don't you know any every WoW player
28:53
in Australia? Okay. Okay. Yeah.
28:56
>> No.
28:57
[laughter]
28:58
[gasps]
28:58
>> Consequences on a US server. I know that
29:01
much.
29:01
>> Yes. The a they were on the same
29:04
>> show.
29:06
>> Um we're on the same region. We're not
29:09
on the same service. We have a have a
29:11
data center in Sydney. H well that that
29:14
is for the best except that our reset
29:16
time is very awkward for you guys. Um
29:19
>> it's not too bad actually. It's middle
29:21
of the night for usually
29:22
>> usually happens around midnight. Comes
29:24
back up around 6:00 a.m. for a long
29:28
>> long one.
29:30
>> Well, maybe you have it better than us.
29:31
I don't know. Uh but yeah, that's kind
29:34
of state of the race. We're about
29:36
halfway through. The method is up to the
29:39
twin fangs, which is a pair of snakes.
29:42
It's a pair of snakes fighting you in a
29:45
pool poison, and I hate it, but that's
29:47
that's not method's fault or anyone's
29:49
fault with the blizzard. Um,
29:52
so yeah, progress, but we still got
29:54
three bosses to go in this race. And um
29:58
I know we'll see where we are at the end
29:59
of the week.
30:02
Uh, and also this is the last thing for
30:04
our WOW news for right now. Um, but the
30:08
North the North End Cup is up for the
30:10
next two weeks. That's a flying thing if
30:12
I'm
30:12
>> not. Yes. Um, well, and
30:16
>> the other reason Yeah, that's a dragon
30:18
riding thing. And the other reason to be
30:20
interested in it is transmog because you
30:23
can collect tokens which
30:26
let you buy these sort of flight suits
30:29
and this is the only time you can get
30:31
those tokens to buy them. So, uh but you
30:34
do have to do you have to do a lot of
30:36
dragon racing. A whole lot.
30:39
>> But there you go. You've got some to do
30:42
right now. Um
30:43
>> uh but if you're if you're interested in
30:46
Northrand, this is also uh Wrath time
30:49
locking week. So you can jump in there
30:51
and get uh get some gear, get some gear,
30:54
level some alts. And uh I read something
30:57
that said you can get tierpiece out of
30:59
the reward bag for this, which sounds
31:03
odd. So I'll give that uh maybe. I mean,
31:07
even if it unless it's a guaranteed tier
31:09
piece,
31:10
>> it's always Yeah,
31:12
>> it's always random. So,
31:13
>> yeah, it's
31:14
>> could be good. It could be bad.
31:16
>> You might get it, but who knows?
31:17
>> If you're if you're a pet battler, it is
31:21
a pet battle week this week. And uh it's
31:25
a
31:27
uh super
31:29
name my head. The uh trainer in the
31:31
garrison.
31:33
>> Yes. Squirt
31:34
>> this week. Super squirt week. Yep.
31:37
>> So, yes, it's a good week for leveling
31:39
pets
31:40
>> and you maybe you'll find his leg.
31:42
[laughter]
31:45
>> But now, uh, we're going to talk about
31:46
BlizzCon.
31:48
Uh, basically, we've we've now got the
31:50
thing where we start finding out what
31:51
celebrities are have been booked and
31:53
what they're going to be doing. Go
31:55
ahead, Liz.
31:56
>> I mean, it's interesting because we're
31:57
seeing stuff like this, but we're we
31:59
still don't have a schedule. At least as
32:01
of the time of this recording, we do not
32:03
have a schedule. So, it's still we're
32:05
we're in a land of mystery.
32:08
>> I'm just interested to see that Simu Leu
32:10
is is going to be there uh in a in a
32:13
Starcraft 2 show, which is like cool,
32:16
but but do you play Starcraft 2 or is it
32:19
just because you you know Shang Chi is
32:21
coming and going to be in another movie?
32:23
I don't know. Similarly, you
32:24
>> I'm saying is he does play it?
32:26
>> Yeah, I thought
32:27
>> Yeah, he legit He's a legitimate player.
32:29
It's not just like for show.
32:31
>> That's pretty cool. Uh quite frankly, um
32:33
I've actually like because he's very he
32:35
was really good
32:37
>> uh as at presenting things himself, just
32:41
being talking about stuff. So he should
32:43
be pretty good for this.
32:45
>> I'm super I'm super excited about Tay
32:46
because Tay is also a gamer and plays
32:48
things like Overwatch.
32:50
So like I'm super excited for that.
32:52
Tain's also very hilarious.
32:54
>> I'm sorry. I'm just imagine going I'm T
32:57
and I shot you.
32:58
>> I mean kind of. But I mean like I
33:02
unironically I love Tay. I think he's a
33:05
very underrated performer and artist. Uh
33:07
and if you've ever listened to his album
33:10
of covers it like he's a phenomenal
33:13
singer and I'm like no autotune on this
33:15
stuff he did that because it was a
33:16
paycheck. But like the fact that he's
33:19
just like a funny dude like
33:21
>> cover is amazing.
33:22
>> It's amazing. Uh but like watching him
33:24
play like Hero Shooters or Valerant or
33:27
like uh CS GO and like just like capping
33:30
on people and just like his laugh every
33:31
time was just it's infectious. And I'm
33:35
kind of really interested to see him
33:37
there as well because apparently he's
33:40
hanging out during the Overwatch World
33:41
Cup which I think is like that's just
33:43
that's just like perfect to me. I I I
33:45
like stuff like this. I think this is
33:47
good.
33:49
I'm also finding this one. I dead mouse
33:52
I can't say mouse because that's five
33:55
but dead mouse is going to be there
33:57
doing and I love dot dot dot something
34:00
dot dot dot with Diablo like
34:03
>> he's on Diablo he's do he's on a Diablo
34:06
panel or something like that and he's
34:07
definitely a Diablo player but it's like
34:09
>> they got corn to do a song for uh
34:14
>> the the most recent expansion which I I
34:16
want to call uh Lord of Terror because
34:18
that's his name, right? I'm not insane.
34:20
It was Lord of Terror.
34:22
>> Hatred.
34:23
>> Hey, Lord of Hatred. Thank you. I was
34:25
>> I was like that sounds I was thinking
34:27
that sounds wrong, but it sounds wrong
34:29
in a way that sounds right.
34:30
>> Yeah, the Lord partless.
34:33
Uh he was doing he did Lord of Hatred.
34:35
Uh K did a song for it. I find myself
34:37
wondering if they're going to have Dead
34:38
Mouse do a song as well.
34:40
>> Um would make sense, but maybe he just
34:43
wants to talk about how much he likes
34:45
playing Diablo. That'd be fine. I don't
34:47
care. Um
34:48
>> I don't know. But it I it does seem like
34:50
they're trying to they're trying to
34:51
bring in some names to up the
34:53
excitement. And I'm like, I don't I
34:55
don't care what celebrities are talking
34:57
about Diablo. I just want to know what
34:58
Diablo is doing. But that's just me.
35:02
>> I'm,
35:03
>> you know, I mean, we say that, but we
35:05
also remember going back to the
35:07
beginnings of World of Warcraft when
35:08
they got celebrities to do their
35:10
commercials. It it booed people coming
35:13
to it. So,
35:14
>> I'm Mr. T and I'm a night el mohawk.
35:17
>> Yeah. [laughter]
35:19
I don't think Dead Mouse is going to be
35:20
screaming about anything, though. He's,
35:22
from what I understand, the man's
35:23
relatively quiet. Uh, but
35:26
>> we're going to see. We're going to see.
35:28
>> But, you know, that's that's it's
35:30
interesting because as Liz pointed out
35:32
earlier during this very podcast that
35:34
we're recording right now, um, we we we
35:38
basically are looking at a situation
35:39
where the the It's next month.
35:43
>> It's in like two weeks, Matt.
35:45
>> Yeah. So, next month is not very far.
35:48
It's five days away or so. And it just
35:51
it's like what? I'm not ready for Liz
35:54
Con.
35:55
>> Well, it doesn't matter what I'm ready
35:57
for. Yeah,
35:58
>> you you got to be cuz it's it's going to
36:00
be here no matter what. Whether any of
36:01
us are ready.
36:02
>> Making it sound like a villain in a
36:05
horror movie.
36:07
Blue Sean's coming. You can't escape.
36:09
>> Uh get away. Ah,
36:13
>> we should talk now about this uh CD
36:15
Project Red Blizzard thing. Oh, go
36:17
ahead,
36:17
>> Liz. One thing I do want to mention
36:19
about Blizzcon is okay. And now that I'm
36:22
going to mention it, it's going to
36:24
happen like immediately. I'm going to
36:26
read about it as soon as we stop
36:27
recording. [laughter]
36:29
>> Is that we haven't seen a schedule yet
36:30
and it feels a little late not to have a
36:33
panel schedule and know a little more
36:34
detail about what's what's going to be
36:36
happening. I mean, obviously there are
36:38
always going to be gaps, things that are
36:41
being left out because they they want to
36:44
keep their secrets, but usually we have
36:46
kind of an outline what's going on, and
36:47
we don't have that yet. But yeah, now
36:51
that I've opened my mouth, I just assume
36:53
they're going to release it immediately,
36:54
and this will
36:55
>> they're probably releasing it right now.
36:57
>> They're probably writing it right now
36:59
and waiting to click publish.
37:01
Do we think that we're going to get
37:03
information about The Last Titan or do
37:05
we think that they're going to hold that
37:07
another year?
37:09
>> I think
37:11
they got to do something.
37:12
>> Yeah.
37:13
>> Do I remember I I don't remember if this
37:15
was during the one where Legion came
37:17
out,
37:17
>> but I remember one where the they did
37:19
the pre the expansion they were
37:21
currently on at for like the last patch
37:24
of it was their major thing and at the
37:26
very end they then said and also this is
37:28
coming and then they just left. I think
37:30
that was actually uh it was actually
37:33
Shadowlands. They basically said in
37:35
Shadowlands, boom, and just walked away.
37:38
Um so they could maybe mention it. I
37:40
don't think they're going to talk about
37:41
it in detail because they are going to
37:43
have to hype at least one more patch in
37:47
this game. Like uh uh the current
37:49
expansion has got Midnight's got one
37:51
more patch at least um if not more. So,
37:55
I would be surprised if they immediately
37:57
started talking about The Last Titan
38:00
>> other than, you know, who knows?
38:02
>> We know they're going to like we we know
38:04
they're going because they did this.
38:05
They can't help themselves. [laughter]
38:09
>> Yeah. And the problem is they've got to
38:10
have something. They've got to have
38:11
something to talk about. And World of
38:14
Warcraft does not have there's not a big
38:16
hype thing here
38:17
>> for World of Warcraft. It seems very
38:20
likely we're going to get some kind of
38:21
uh classic plus, some kind of new
38:24
version of classic. That's been rumored
38:26
and there's a lot of excitement about
38:28
something along those lines. But for
38:30
World of Warcraft, there's nothing to
38:31
announce. We just got a big new pack.
38:34
>> I've been told there'll be a new
38:37
um game mode coming with um was it 122
38:41
or 123 on the road map? Um,
38:44
so in much the same way that we had
38:46
Plundertorm,
38:49
um, I don't think it'll be another,
38:53
um,
38:54
remix, but it might be. Seems a bit,
38:57
>> I mean,
38:58
>> played out now that they'd call it a new
39:00
game mode.
39:04
>> Yeah, it's just like they just they
39:06
don't there's not a lot to talk about. I
39:09
mean, I think we we're definitely going
39:10
to hear something about 12.2. too
39:12
because that's going to be our next
39:13
major patch. But at the same time, we're
39:17
not in a great place to talk. It feels a
39:19
little early to talk about the next WoW
39:21
expansion. But if you don't talk about
39:22
the next WoW expansion, what are you
39:24
going to do? What are you going to talk
39:26
about?
39:27
>> Yeah. And when are you going to talk
39:28
about it?
39:29
>> Yeah. So, I we're going to see
39:34
>> it now. They're going to announce World
39:35
of Warcraft 3. They're not They skip
39:38
straight to three. They're not even
39:39
going to do World of Warcraft 2. Um, no
39:43
I kid. Uh, Project CD Project Red and
39:45
Blizzard kind of had a little joint
39:47
announcement because
39:49
>> this uh
39:50
>> it's Gamescom, guys. It's Gamescom
39:52
Gamescom opening night live. Yeah. Had a
39:55
big Witcher 3 thing, which is
40:00
>> I It's interesting. It's interesting.
40:01
Keep going.
40:02
>> Witcher 3 itself, The Witcher 3 has got
40:04
a new DLC coming out. Yes, a new DLC.
40:06
I'm not kidding. Uh they're releasing
40:09
the I I don't know how to explain it.
40:11
It's like the revamp slash
40:14
>> uh it's visually, you know. Go ahead.
40:16
>> It's a remaster. They're calling it a
40:18
remaster.
40:19
>> The remaster for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt,
40:21
complete with a new DLC that kind of
40:23
leads into The Witcher 4.
40:24
>> Those are those are separate things.
40:26
>> Separate things, but they're both
40:27
happening. Um
40:28
>> they're both happening
40:29
>> at the time that they're doing both of
40:31
those things. Uh they're also doing a
40:34
little thing with Blizzard where I first
40:36
off the Witcher 3 is going to be on
40:39
their launcher. It's going to be on the
40:41
Blizzard launcher and you will have a
40:43
there's a new Witcher Based armor sets
40:46
you will be able to get just as they've
40:48
done other tie-ins in the past like when
40:50
they did the Doom one. They're doing one
40:52
for Geralt Rivia which I'm like okay you
40:57
give everybody the watch the the Geralt
40:59
Rivia skin. Do you get a head or do you
41:01
just get his armor? Like what what are
41:03
we doing here, guys? Um
41:06
>> skin in skin in what? Who gets the skin?
41:09
>> Diablo 4. They will have
41:10
>> Oh, Diablo. Okay. Yes, that makes sense.
41:14
>> But that's Diablo 4. But
41:18
>> yeah,
41:19
>> season finish.
41:21
>> It's going to finish September 15th, two
41:23
days after BlizzCon. So, we have seen
41:26
>> So, what you're saying is I still have
41:28
time to play it. You still have time to
41:30
play this season if you want to, but
41:32
also we've seen the PTR for the next
41:34
Diablo I season and it's a little it's a
41:37
little skimpy probably because they're
41:40
announcing something at Blizzcon that
41:42
they can't tell us about yet. At least I
41:44
hope so because otherwise that next
41:46
season looks a little sad. Also should
41:48
mention that both of the the both of the
41:51
things that they're doing for uh The
41:53
Witcher 3, the DLC and the remastered
41:56
version of the base game, both are going
41:57
to be on the launcher, on the Battleet
41:59
launcher, and we're going to see more
42:01
supposedly at Blizzcon, whatever that
42:03
means.
42:04
>> Well, we'll find out.
42:05
>> The remaster is going to be out on
42:07
September 29th. Uh as
42:09
>> and uh the DLC is due out in 2027. I
42:14
don't believe they gave us a specific
42:15
date.
42:15
>> They have not given a date for that yet.
42:17
Um, so yeah, this it's interesting that
42:20
we've seen this much tie through. Like
42:22
they're making the deal. This is
42:24
obviously all pretty solid for CD
42:27
Project Red, which wants people to know
42:28
about the Witcher stuff, but honestly,
42:30
people were going to know about the
42:31
Witcher stuff anyway. So, it's also
42:33
decent for Blizzard to get people
42:35
looking at their stuff at the same time.
42:38
So, it's interesting that way. I don't I
42:40
I wouldn't have called it. I mean,
42:42
they're not even remotely corporately
42:44
tied. So, I'm not I'm not surprised, but
42:47
neither am I was I expecting it. I'm
42:49
like, "Oh, yeah. This is a no-brainer."
42:50
I'm like, "No, I'm there. This required
42:52
some braining. I I needed brain
42:54
[laughter] for this." Uh, but yeah, that
42:56
that's happening. I I want to see what
42:59
we get for the skin D4 because like is
43:02
it just going to be one skin that
43:03
everybody can wear or are we going to
43:05
have different Geralt looks for
43:07
different classes? I don't know. I I am
43:10
interested to see what it is. Go ahead,
43:11
Liz.
43:12
>> Uh, I do want to say one of the one of
43:15
the things I think is really interesting
43:16
here is the Witcher 3 remaster
43:20
is, you know, it's improved graphics,
43:22
revamped talents, a transmog system is
43:24
coming to the game. It's, this is not
43:26
like a tiny dusting off of The Witcher
43:29
3. It sounds like a pretty significant a
43:32
pretty significant remaster that they're
43:34
going to release. And people who already
43:37
own The Witcher 3 will just be able to
43:39
get this. You don't have to buy it. If
43:41
you own The Witcher 3, you can get this.
43:44
Probably not on Battleet, but on the
43:46
platform you purchased The Witcher 3 on.
43:48
And it will include both DLC's. So, even
43:51
if you did not previously buy any of the
43:54
Witcher DLCs, you'll have the two
43:56
existing Witcher 3 DLCs to play. So,
44:00
it's a lot of gameplay and a lot of
44:02
gameplay improvements to modernize this
44:05
um to modernize this and it's a this is
44:08
a lot of free content, frankly. Uh I'm
44:11
one of those people who bought The
44:12
Witcher on sale probably a decade ago
44:15
and has not played through it. So, this
44:18
is this is for me. This is this is a
44:20
great gift to me personally. But I I bet
44:23
I'm not the only person in that boat or
44:25
the only person who'd be interested in
44:27
revisiting this with modernized graphics
44:30
and other improvements.
44:31
>> I say upfront there's enough people that
44:33
love The Witcher 3 that would probably
44:34
go back and play it again that
44:36
>> yeah,
44:37
>> you know, there's a sizable amount of
44:38
people who are going to be getting the
44:39
remaster for nothing.
44:41
>> For sure. For sure.
44:42
>> So that is good thing. And I I feel like
44:45
that's very strange in today's uh
44:48
corporate economy, you know, because why
44:52
would you give this away for free when
44:53
you could make people buy it a second
44:55
time or as with Skyrim, a third time or
44:57
fourth time or fifth time? Uh
45:00
>> I mean, I think it's in it's in line
45:02
with uh CD Project Red's, for lack of
45:04
better word, ethos. M
45:06
>> uh I'm not going to pretend they're not
45:07
a company that wants to make money, but
45:09
they have always kind of had an a
45:11
feeling like a lot of their stuff on
45:13
good old games is is basically no DLC,
45:18
uh no no, you know, protection for it.
45:21
No copy protection, nothing like that.
45:23
Once you buy it, you get you own it and
45:25
you can get it as many times as you need
45:27
to. It's not 100% surprising that they
45:30
would do something like, oh, you've
45:31
already own it, so here's the map for
45:33
free. I also feel like it serves as a
45:36
it's a underground version of of a PR
45:40
campaign for a game that isn't even
45:41
remotely out yet.
45:43
>> Like they they remember what the problem
45:45
they had with both The Witcher 3 and
45:48
Cyberpunk when they released them and
45:50
they had
45:51
>> it had a really bad effect on their on
45:54
people's ability to trust them because
45:56
both of those games did not launch in a
45:58
good state. Um, and I loved Cyberpunk
46:01
from the moment it came out, but I'm not
46:04
going to pretend that it didn't make a
46:05
lot of people very angry. And that's
46:08
Witcher 3 did that too before it. So,
46:11
having this remastered version of The
46:12
Witcher 3 and basically give if you've
46:14
already bought it, here it is. It's a
46:16
way to show other people that yes, we
46:18
may have rough releases, but we're in
46:21
this for a long time and we will you
46:23
will always end up getting the game and
46:25
you will always be able to end up
46:27
playing the game. So, considering that
46:30
they're trying to get The Witcher 4 done
46:32
and out and they're trying to work on
46:34
Cyberpunk uh 2, whatever that's going to
46:37
cyberpunk Orion,
46:39
I'm not 100% surprised they're doing
46:40
this. I think it is something that is
46:42
within their kind of strategy.
46:46
>> Whereas, plus they don't want to end up
46:47
being um Bethesda where, you know, is
46:50
when is the Elder Scrolls coming out?
46:52
Well, who knows, man. Magic
46:54
>> eventually. Eventually.
46:56
Um, but also the DLC
46:59
[laughter]
47:01
the the DLC is going to be called
47:04
um I had it in my head like three
47:07
seconds ago and now it's gone. Songs of
47:09
the past. Songs of the past and it's
47:12
coming out next year which is still not
47:13
that far away. It will presumably cost
47:15
money.
47:17
And uh that's it. That's it. That's all
47:19
I know about it.
47:21
>> Um I'm sad. Do you want to do a question
47:23
first, Liz? You have a little time.
47:26
You can do this.
47:28
>> All right. Well, then go ahead. I'm
47:30
sorry. [laughter]
47:31
[gasps]
47:33
>> Uh, I just want to say thank you to all

50:24
of saying thank you for supporting us.
50:27
Um and now that I've said all that, you
50:29
know, Matt, there was one more other
50:30
game thing that I wanted to mention.
50:34
>> Okay, you're welcome to mention it
50:36
>> in in which I cursed myself to continue
50:38
talking instead of taking a drink of
50:40
water. Uh which another thing we saw at
50:42
Gamescom today was Exodus. Exodus, the
50:45
game that uh Wizards of the Coast is
50:46
definitely still releasing because they
50:49
definitely have not cancelled it.
50:52
I'm I'm saying that because they've been
50:53
canceling a lot of games. Oh, yeah.
50:55
>> Uh Exodus has a release date. It's
50:58
coming. It's actually coming out
51:02
ostensibly on April 7th, 2027. And uh
51:07
there was a new trailer uh a character
51:09
trailer showing off the awakened
51:11
octopus, Salt, who is my favorite
51:15
character in any video game ever. Now
51:17
it's it's an octopus that fights in a
51:19
robot suit.
51:21
>> I mean, yeah,
51:22
>> this is just my mind is blown. This is
51:26
Yeah, this is my favorite video game
51:28
character in the history of video games.
51:30
And I that's a long list of characters I
51:32
really like, but none of them is an
51:34
octopus fighting in a robot suit. So
51:37
yeah, they're all they're all
51:39
disadvantage.
51:39
>> Stories of romancing him.
51:41
>> Um because you know this is a game made
51:44
by a bunch of people in the Mass Effect
51:45
franchise. So
51:49
>> So here we are.
51:51
>> I I know I know it's the only thing that
51:54
would be better is if I could play an
51:56
octopus fighting in a robot suit, but
51:58
that does not seem to be the case. So,
51:59
I'm just going to have to live with
52:01
being friends with an octopus in a robot
52:03
suit.
52:05
[laughter]
52:06
>> Vicariously enjoy this. Yes. So,
52:09
>> vicariously
52:11
I live while my octopus shoots you with
52:14
lasers. Um,
52:15
>> we did. So, on on I'm sorry. I'm gonna
52:19
keep going.
52:20
>> Okay, keep going.
52:21
>> On the topic of games that Wizards of
52:23
the Coast is definitely still making, we
52:25
saw the first game play from Warlock,
52:27
the game in which you are a warlock.
52:29
being a warlock. And
52:31
I was not super impressed. It's uh it
52:35
had a really cool kind of story trailer
52:38
with Tasha because we know Tasha is
52:40
going to be the Warlock's patron and
52:42
that was really nice, but then it went
52:44
into what kind of looked like some
52:45
generic fantasy action gameplay which
52:48
did not stand out in any way. So, I hope
52:52
uh I hope I hope we see something more
52:55
interesting here because it has some
52:56
great voice talent behind it. I mean,
52:58
the kind of the cinematic scenes looked
53:01
really good, but man, it's it's hard to
53:04
stand out. It's hard to stand out in a
53:06
in a big field of games in which a lot
53:09
of games are, you know, I'm going to
53:12
kill whatever's in front of me, you
53:13
know.
53:15
>> I don't have a problem with that, but
53:16
yeah, I get you. You Sometimes it's
53:18
Warlock has always felt a little weird,
53:21
honestly. It's a game that I didn't
53:22
really It It's like just what was what
53:26
they couldn't start alphabetically.
53:27
We're going with Warlock. We're going
53:29
reverse alphabetically, but I'm like
53:31
wizard would be a So, this would be
53:32
wizard. So, no.
53:34
>> The thing about the warlock is I think
53:38
by default warlock is the Dungeons and
53:41
Dragons class with the most immediate
53:44
story hook to it. Because if you go in
53:47
with a warlock, you've already got this.
53:48
You've got a patron.
53:50
relationship with that patron.
53:53
>> I can see that because you've got your
53:54
oath and that's going to set
53:55
>> Well, paladins are also basically like
53:57
they're the light version of warlocks
53:59
really.
53:59
>> Mhm. Our cleric.
54:02
>> Yeah.
54:02
>> But the warlock relationship with their
54:05
patron is usually presented as some sort
54:07
of
54:09
>> transactional,
54:09
>> not necessarily a friendly relationship.
54:11
It could be transactional. It could be,
54:14
you know, you might you might be
54:15
enemies, but you're kind of doing this
54:18
to a shared cause or something. Or maybe
54:20
you're being used by your patron to
54:22
accomplish something and you don't want
54:24
to be involved in. So, there are all
54:26
sorts of interesting story hooks that
54:28
you can put into a warlock just just by
54:31
nature of being a warlock and having
54:33
this packed relationship.
54:36
But, we didn't really see a lot of that
54:37
in the trailer. There was a little bit
54:39
of kind of story exposition, but I felt
54:41
like I felt like that's where you need
54:43
to set the hook that why are we doing
54:45
this? Why do we have this packed? What
54:47
is our goal here? What makes this
54:49
interesting? And it felt like the
54:50
trailer didn't have that part. And then
54:52
for gameplay, it's just like, okay, this
54:54
is, you know, your standard fantasy
54:56
action game. And it's like, okay, that's
54:58
that's fine. That's fine. I'm just not I
55:02
I'm not impressed. They did not have any
55:04
octopuses. There was not a single octopi
55:07
in this trailer. So maybe that's why I'm
55:09
disappointed.
55:11
But it just it didn't stand out, which
55:13
is a shame. And I hope I do hope that uh
55:16
that Wizards of the Ghost doesn't turn
55:18
around and cancel this along with the
55:20
rest of their previously lengthy slate
55:23
of games. But we're going to see
55:25
>> this point. It the only reason I don't
55:27
think they're going to do that is
55:29
because at this point they released so
55:30
many trailers for it
55:32
>> that it feels like they spent enough
55:33
money on it that they're probably not
55:35
going to let it go. This is like the
55:37
second trailer. So,
55:38
>> yeah, there's like I'm looking like
55:40
literally I looked it up and there's
55:41
like six videos out already. I mean, it
55:43
might just be the second trailer, but
55:45
they've put out a lot of videos on this
55:46
thing.
55:48
>> So, yeah, they're making they're making
55:49
it very public, more public than some of
55:51
the games that they have canceled, but
55:53
uh
55:53
>> not saying that that makes it safe
55:55
because other games have gotten a lot of
55:56
attention then just vanish.
55:58
>> I just feel like at this point Hasbro is
56:00
not likely to let go of the potential
56:02
money.
56:03
>> Yeah. Well, they they kind of did a
56:05
thing where they're like, "We're going
56:06
all in on video games. We're making so
56:08
many video games. Video games are
56:09
great." And then they started cancelling
56:12
video games.
56:13
>> And now they just got they just got
56:15
these two. They've got Exodus and uh
56:17
Warlock in the works.
56:20
>> And but Exodus has released it. We're
56:23
actually going to get it. We're going to
56:24
get be able to make friends with an
56:25
octopus. I'm really excited. I'm going
56:26
to stop now. I'm going to stop. Someone
56:28
else talk.
56:28
>> Uh well, I think at this point um we're
56:32
done. Uh there there's technically a
56:34
question, but I think we have actually
56:35
answered it on a previous week. Uh in
56:38
fact, I'm like 90% sure we have answered
56:40
this question before.
56:42
So yeah, I I know it wasn't crossed out.
56:46
Uh but I know we've had this before.
56:49
>> Uh did has anyone else watched the
56:52
Gamescom opening light night live yet?
56:54
>> I mean, do we want to do we want to talk
56:56
about how many of the games in the
56:57
opening ceremony were AI slop? Because I
56:59
can talk about that.
57:01
>> Okay, go for it. were a couple of them.
57:03
Yes. Go for it, Joe. Let's go out on a
57:06
high note.
57:07
>> So, I listen, I'm I'm going to I'm going
57:09
to throw this out there and I might get
57:10
flame for part of this. I think AI is a
57:13
useful tool for data parsing when it's a
57:15
closed circuit and not using it like
57:17
it's your therapist or coder or a
57:19
friend. It's a supplemental tool at best
57:22
and usually in very limited cases. That
57:25
said, the way that these games are using
57:28
them for their their product concerns
57:31
me. Um, like or die, one of the games
57:34
that they they they uh posted at the
57:37
beginning of it, uh, literally the
57:39
developer on their main uh, their main
57:41
site on everywhere that the game is
57:44
located tells you that they use
57:45
generative AI tools. Uh, they say for
57:47
auxiliary purposes for assets and that
57:50
assets were then human modified after,
57:52
but they're still generating the assets
57:54
with it, which makes me sad. Zupunk, a
57:56
game that I was very excited for
57:58
potentially because I like
58:01
anthropomorphic animals, you know, in a
58:03
cyberpunk setting. It's it it this like
58:06
should be something that is like
58:08
hardcoded for me. Like this ticks a lot
58:10
of boxes. Well, sorry. Uh they use
58:12
generative AI assets in it. Uh and this
58:15
was in part of the Xbox partner showcase
58:17
today through the the games com the game
58:19
stuff. Uh the notice falls from
58:23
Hoyverse. Uh they just announced that
58:25
they invested 14.6 billion dollars uh in
58:29
AI for in-house tools. Not specified
58:31
what those are, but uh they definitely
58:34
said that they were going to do
58:35
something specifically with the NPCs uh
58:37
which makes me concerned. Uh the the
58:40
Hoyo versus the people that make like
58:42
Star Rail and and games like that. Uh
58:45
not surprising,
58:46
>> right?
58:46
>> And Genchin. Yeah, Genchin, which one of
58:49
the best Zeldaike clones out there? Like
58:52
if you don't mind the the gotcha aspect
58:53
of it, which you can't avoid. Um, Crazy
58:57
Taxi has the the the World Tour, the new
59:00
Crazy Taxi, a game that people have been
59:01
clamoring for since 2000s, the early
59:06
2000s, uh, will be using generative AI
59:08
because apparently that's it. Uh, Train
59:11
Sim World 7 has a disclaimer that
59:13
they're going to be using generative AI.
59:15
Animo uh they said that they weren't
59:18
going to be using it and then oh what do
59:21
you know surprise they were using AI
59:24
like this is like Anata which is another
59:27
net ease game
59:30
uh that one also has been using it like
59:33
a a lot of these games like there's at
59:35
least 10 or more a dozen games that are
59:40
definitely using it uh like the blood of
59:42
the dawn walker uh they say they use AI
59:44
But there's no AI assets in the final
59:46
game. Uh but they said that they use it
59:49
to avoid pressure on staff, but they
59:50
won't qualify what it is. Like I I hate
59:54
to say this, like it's one of those
59:56
things where I find myself. Do you
59:58
remember when when like we were growing
1:00:00
up and like we had all these new things
1:00:03
like New Coke, uh and then you would sit
1:00:05
there and read the label trying to
1:00:06
figure out what was wrong with it
1:00:08
because it was something new and you
1:00:09
weren't sure what it was. That's what I
1:00:10
feel I have to do with video games now.
1:00:13
and like the Gamescom opening stuff and
1:00:15
a lot of the the developer highlights,
1:00:17
>> I feel like I have to do the same thing.
1:00:20
And I know it's a weird line in the sand
1:00:22
to draw as far as like that stuff goes.
1:00:24
And again, I I just know I just said
1:00:26
that it can be a useful tool. It's how
1:00:28
you implement it that matters. And I
1:00:30
don't trust large game companies or
1:00:33
developers that have uh large overlords
1:00:36
to not use it as a shortcut or a cost
1:00:39
cutting measure to replace humans. And I
1:00:42
think that that is a problem because I
1:00:44
think for me
1:00:47
I I'm trying to think how to phrase
1:00:49
this. I always viewed AI more as like
1:00:51
the Jetson thing. It was something that
1:00:53
would replace the things that are menial
1:00:55
tasks that you shouldn't need to do.
1:00:57
Like I don't want to count with an
1:00:58
abacus anymore. So the AI is going to do
1:01:00
it for me. Cool. Fine. No problem. But
1:01:03
when it starts replacing art assets that
1:01:07
should be humanmade or have a human
1:01:09
touch or starts doing things like
1:01:10
generating story because we know that
1:01:13
there are games that they have been
1:01:14
doing that. We know that there are
1:01:15
tabletop games that have been doing
1:01:17
that. Uh, you're now taking the creative
1:01:20
aspects of it, things that make these
1:01:22
pieces of art in my opinion, and you're
1:01:27
like ripping the soul out of it, more or
1:01:29
less, and making it to it's a inferior
1:01:32
product.
1:01:33
>> The um the quote that's kicking around
1:01:35
about um I I don't want AI to be uh
1:01:40
creating art for me so that I've got
1:01:42
more time doing the laundry. I want AI
1:01:44
to be doing the laundry for me so I've
1:01:45
got more time to create art.
1:01:47
>> Exactly. Right. Like that that's exactly
1:01:51
a sentimentality. And I mean
1:01:53
>> to to a degree like it's on us to sort
1:01:56
of like make that known if that's what
1:01:58
we want. And maybe there's people that
1:01:59
are are fine with it and they don't
1:02:01
care. They just want to play the pretty
1:02:02
game. Okay, fine. I'm not going to I'm
1:02:04
not going to yuck or yum. Enjoy what
1:02:06
you're going to enjoy. But for the rest
1:02:08
of us, like I don't want that. I don't
1:02:10
want a formulaic thing like we talk
1:02:13
about this on Tavern watch all the time.
1:02:15
If the next book for for uh you know
1:02:19
like we're the concern really in my
1:02:21
local group has been if Dark Sun's going
1:02:24
to be AI generated or not or how much of
1:02:26
it it's going to use that's AI
1:02:27
generated. Um and it would be the
1:02:30
ultimate slap in the face specifically
1:02:32
for that. Um I don't want that. I want I
1:02:36
want my weird human art. I want the
1:02:39
fever dream of a team of people that see
1:02:41
a vision come to life. Like I I I want
1:02:44
like that type of weirdness because to
1:02:47
me creativity is humanity's
1:02:49
anti-destruction,
1:02:51
right? It like it's the opposite of war
1:02:54
isn't peace, it's creation. That's truth
1:02:56
to me. Like that is legit. Yes, I did
1:02:59
just quote Rent. Thank you very much. Um
1:03:02
but like I firmly believe that and video
1:03:04
games are a big part of that and they're
1:03:05
a big part of my life. They have been
1:03:07
for a very long time. They're a big part
1:03:08
of that escapism. And part of that
1:03:10
escapism, I'm trying to escape the
1:03:12
cybernetic hellscape that keeps getting
1:03:14
crammed down our throat. I don't need my
1:03:16
escape being crafted by an aspect of
1:03:18
that cybernetic hellscape that's
1:03:19
furthering the cybernetic hellscape.
1:03:21
[laughter]
1:03:22
>> Yeah. Well, we we've seen it before and
1:03:23
we've, you know, heard it from before.
1:03:25
The basic idea of all of this is people
1:03:28
want to own the IP and they don't care
1:03:33
about the thing that is the IP. They
1:03:37
just want to own the IP. They don't see
1:03:39
any value in art because they don't make
1:03:40
it themselves. On the other hand, they
1:03:43
do see the value in owning something.
1:03:46
>> And so if you can commodify it to the
1:03:48
point where you just push a button and a
1:03:50
machine dumps it into a tray and here
1:03:52
you go. Here's your pink goo from
1:03:54
Fallout 4. Remember this? Eat it.
1:03:57
[laughter] And you know, that's that's
1:03:59
what we're getting with Generative AI at
1:04:01
this point. It's just it's goo. And you
1:04:04
know what's a really telling thing? Uh
1:04:06
because uh I see a lot of ads
1:04:10
>> on YouTube because I don't have premium,
1:04:12
can't afford it.
1:04:13
>> Uh the ads are AI generated.
1:04:17
The ads themselves are written by AI.
1:04:19
Well, we we I could go on a whole rant
1:04:21
about uh YouTube and AI that we don't
1:04:24
have time for that.
1:04:25
>> Well, my point is just that you see it
1:04:27
because in those ads I keep seeing the
1:04:29
phrase, you know, I keep seeing phrases
1:04:31
repeated over and over again. Uh you
1:04:34
know, the one that was going for like
1:04:36
months was it struck like a physical
1:04:38
blow
1:04:40
and it just got repeated.
1:04:41
>> The thing that a lot of people don't
1:04:43
grasp about generative AI is it doesn't
1:04:46
create anything. No does is it does a
1:04:50
statistically probable
1:04:52
>> guess as to what the next thing would
1:04:55
be, whether it be a word or a shape or a
1:04:57
sound. It
1:04:58
>> for me it's like remember remember the
1:05:00
the TV shows where there's the kidnapper
1:05:03
and they send the ransom note and the
1:05:04
ransom note is all cut out letters from
1:05:06
magazines and papers that they've pasted
1:05:08
together like with a glue stick on
1:05:10
something and sent in. That's what AI
1:05:12
does. That's what AI creates. It it it
1:05:14
cannot generate something on its own. It
1:05:16
has
1:05:16
>> from actual
1:05:18
>> from other criminal cases. I can tell
1:05:19
you that that with the the glue stick
1:05:21
and the cutout letters is
1:05:24
>> more creative than it's distinctive to
1:05:26
the person doing it enough to the point
1:05:28
where people have been caught and
1:05:29
arrested.
1:05:29
>> Yeah, but my I'm making I'm just making
1:05:31
a point, Matt.
1:05:33
>> My point is that like the thing you're
1:05:35
talking about is is more creative and
1:05:38
more individually human.
1:05:40
Yeah, Liz, you were making a choice as
1:05:44
to what letters they used from what
1:05:46
source and how they position.
1:05:48
>> Yeah,
1:05:49
>> generative AI is just really expensive
1:05:52
autocorrect. It's always thinking about
1:05:54
the next
1:05:55
>> it's worse autorect.
1:05:57
>> That's why it's always telling me to go
1:05:59
to those like, you know,
1:06:00
>> it makes functionally more errors than
1:06:02
my old auto correct for like was in it
1:06:04
on like when it first was introduced on
1:06:06
Windows 98.
1:06:08
I I don't know how we've gotten here
1:06:09
where autocorrect is actually actively
1:06:12
getting worse. It my spelling is now
1:06:14
better than autocorrects, which is a
1:06:16
problem.
1:06:16
>> It corrected something. Oh, this like
1:06:19
funny aside and then we'll I think we
1:06:21
need to end here, but like I I wrote an
1:06:23
email at work then we have a couple
1:06:26
things that like because our autocorrect
1:06:28
has been replaced because of the Office
1:06:29
365
1:06:31
uh has been replaced with Copilot. Um we
1:06:34
don't have a choice in that. This is how
1:06:35
it is these days. And it was correcting
1:06:38
my correct grammar and spelling to
1:06:42
incorrect grammar and spelling that made
1:06:44
no sense unless you were a kid on
1:06:46
Tumblr.
1:06:49
>> And you don't know the struggles I go
1:06:52
through with every housing article I
1:06:55
write where fighting with Australian
1:06:59
versus American spelling. Yeah, I I get
1:07:02
that too because I have a lot of friends
1:07:03
who are Australian and and and from
1:07:06
other parts like the UK and it it like
1:07:08
it like just in those regions and the
1:07:10
grammar is so specifically different
1:07:12
between like those two spots and then
1:07:14
here
1:07:15
>> that I'm fighting the computer
1:07:16
everything I type [laughter]
1:07:19
>> to make for you guys because it doesn't
1:07:22
match my local
1:07:24
um dictionary and and dialect. Well,
1:07:27
also I got to say this moving to Canada,
1:07:28
the worst thing that happened to me was
1:07:29
suddenly having use inserted and
1:07:31
everything, [laughter] but this is going
1:07:33
to have to be where we stop because if
1:07:34
we start talking about linguistic, you
1:07:36
know, kathuffles, we're going to be here
1:07:38
forever and I need to use the bathroom.
1:07:40
So, this has been the Blizzard Watch
1:07:42
podcast.
1:07:43
>> Thank you.
1:07:44
>> H What are you talking about?
1:07:46
>> Oh god, he's doing uh this has been the
1:07:49
Blizzard Watch podcast. Joe is going to
1:07:50
be, you know, visited this night by
1:07:52
three ghosts, all of whom pronounce
1:07:54
words weird. Um, and bring bag milk.
1:07:58
Thank you to to Sarah and Liz for not
1:08:01
doing that to me. And thank you to Joe
1:08:02
for doing it to me. And thank you to all
1:08:05
of you for listening to this podcast
1:08:06
every week. So every week I have to be
1:08:08
back here. And Joe says a boot. Uh, take
1:08:11
care and we'll be back next week.
