We start off this week's podcast talking about a few upcoming things we've already sort of discussed -- WoW patch 12.0.7 is coming next week, as is the next season of Overwatch. We have a few gripes on how the Overwatch story is being delivered, but next season looks okay. We're much more enthusiastic about the stuff coming for Diablo. And then things get wild, when we start discussing Summer Game Fest, and all the new titles we're excited to see, ranging from the headline blockbusters all the way down to little murder mysteries that might not actually be murder mysteries.
Plus, speaking of murders, Destiny 2 just got its final patch. RIP, too pure for this world.

Hi everybody and welcome to Blizzard
0:12
Watch podcast. The podcast we talk about
0:14
Blizzard Entertainment and its many
0:16
games. Um, we just had a lively
0:19
discussion on the pre-show, which if you
0:20
don't subscribe and and you don't get to
0:22
listen to our pre-shows, I I beg you to
0:24
do so because you get to listen to to
0:26
us. Sometimes we sound like real snobby
0:29
and sometimes we sound really fun and
0:30
excited. And today I sounded
0:32
astonishingly old. Like I sounded like I
0:35
wasn't talking about video games. I was
0:37
talking about koiform tablets that had
0:39
been carved out to tell the story of
0:41
some guy in a town flying a jet into
0:44
somebody's house. Regardless, we are
0:46
going to talk about Blizzard and its
0:48
games. Now, so first off, I'm going to
0:51
introduce you to our fantastic panel of
0:53
of hosts. First off, she does
0:55
everything. She is is the empress of the
0:57
site. She's lived upon the throne and
1:00
and can actually move and isn't like
1:02
dying or anything. Uh Liz Harper. Hi
1:04
Liz.
1:04
>> Hope not.
1:05
>> Hello.
1:06
>> Uh we were talking about Joe and I
1:08
talked about like uh Warhammer 40k this
1:10
weekend and I still kind of have it on
1:11
my brain. Speaking of Joe. Hey Joe.
1:14
>> Well hi there friends.
1:16
>> Joe is also not living on a throne and
1:18
being forced to keep the pathways to
1:20
chaos closed.
1:21
>> Am I not true?
1:22
>> It's true.
1:22
>> And finally 6K. Hi Six. He's going to be
1:26
put on the throne.
1:26
>> A I empir
1:29
[laughter]
1:31
not as much ton of stuff as we were
1:33
expecting because it's kind of a quiet
1:34
time. It's June. We're like a month or
1:37
two away from big announcements, I
1:39
think, because we're going to have
1:40
Gamescom soonish, but right now
1:42
>> the game go ahead.
1:44
>> We did just have summer GameFest last
1:47
week and Gamescom is like two months
1:49
away. So,
1:50
>> well, yeah, kind of like a trough, but
1:52
but we'll get there. There'll be more.
1:53
Uh, in the meantime, however, we should
1:55
tell you World of Warcraft patch 12.0.7
1:58
is launching on June 16th. Um, if you're
2:01
watching this around the time we
2:03
released it, that's about a week away.
2:05
Um, if you're watching it in the future
2:06
beyond that, then that happened already.
2:09
>> It's June 16th. It's Yeah,
2:11
>> but uh, we pretty much talked about all
2:13
the stuff beforehand. We we've covered
2:15
what's coming. It's not a patch. Go
2:18
ahead, Liz. I I do want to ask a
2:19
question just I don't think we want to
2:22
rehash this forever, but does anyone do
2:24
we want to go around and say what's your
2:26
favorite feature in 1207? Is there
2:28
something in particular everyone is
2:31
excited about? Pick one.
2:33
>> I know.
2:35
>> I mean like I'm basically trying to get
2:37
caught up so I'm really excited about
2:39
any catchup mechanics. And uh
2:41
>> in general I'm looking forward to
2:43
finally getting stuck in on housing.
2:45
like I've finally getting to the point
2:46
where I can really get involved in that.
2:48
That's not specifically a 12.0.7 thing.
2:50
Uh so I feel like I'm cheating here.
2:53
>> I mean uh we are going to get there
2:55
going to be new housing items. There's
2:57
going to be lighting and housing. Uh I'm
2:59
excited about lighting and housing cuz I
3:01
think my my tree
3:02
>> exterior
3:03
>> housing exterior. Yes. I think my
3:05
treehouse really needs some exterior
3:07
lighting to like make it look right. Uh,
3:11
>> although I will say they broke something
3:13
with housing that I they I can't put the
3:15
hot tub inside the house anymore.
3:16
>> Oh, that's weird.
3:18
>> Yeah, fix it. You fix my floors and my
3:20
hot tub.
3:22
>> No. [laughter]
3:24
>> Um, I also though I I also want to say
3:28
that I do like that they're doing some
3:30
new lore walking stuff about trolls and
3:32
yeah,
3:33
>> I I'm kind of interested in seeing the
3:36
worlds you can go to to to fight void
3:38
stuff. Um, what's that called again? We
3:40
had a name for it and I forgot what it
3:42
was.
3:42
>> It's not Void Assaults because we
3:43
already have Void Assault. It's Void
3:45
Showdowns. That's it.
3:46
>> Void Showdowns. Okay.
3:47
>> Which is It's a weird name.
3:52
>> I don't disagree. It's not the name I
3:53
was expecting, but you know, whatever.
3:55
>> Uh, Joe, is there anything you're
3:57
particularly excited about?
3:59
>> Turbulent Timeways.
4:02
>> Ah, yes. Uh, Turbulent Timeways is going
4:06
to be back at the end of June. I believe
4:07
it'll be starting up again. And there's
4:09
a new
4:09
>> What expansion is that for this year?
4:11
This time around
4:12
>> uh they're adding dragon flight.
4:14
>> Yep.
4:14
>> Okay.
4:15
>> And uh
4:17
>> there is a new mount which uh is uh like
4:21
Vernonoth. Am I saying that right?
4:23
>> Yeah.
4:23
>> Veronoth. Yeah. It's a Vernon style
4:25
mount like an ice dragon.
4:27
>> But is it a mount or is it a skin for
4:30
you know the proto?
4:31
>> Oh, that's a good question. I thought it
4:32
was a mount.
4:33
>> It's a mount. It is listed as a a mount.
4:36
It is not just a skin. Um,
4:39
>> I get confused
4:40
>> because if people don't have the mount
4:42
from Dragon Flight, it would be really
4:44
bad for them because some people we have
4:46
to remember every expansion or content
4:48
that releases for WoW may be somebody's
4:50
first. Yeah.
4:51
>> Uh,
4:52
>> but I'm not only like I'm excited for
4:54
that, but like there's new pets. I'm
4:56
happy with the new housing decor from
4:57
that transmog. Like there's there's
5:00
going to be so much cool stuff and
5:03
turbulent highways is always one of my
5:04
favorite things.
5:06
Like I know some people are sour on time
5:10
walking or they don't think it's like,
5:12
you know, real big content or anything
5:14
like that. I love it. I absolutely love
5:16
it. And I especially love it for
5:18
leveling alts and doing stuff with alts,
5:22
>> right? I have a whole stable full of
5:24
them. I'd like to play more of them.
5:25
That's my choice. Next,
5:27
>> I'm still watching right now. I I went
5:29
to look at stuff and um the cinematic
5:31
where uh Loramara is arguing with Zalat
5:35
and I'm like sitting here listening to
5:37
Joe thinking, man, that that was a
5:39
pretty cinematic. [laughter]
5:41
So, sorry. I I'm I'm sorry, but they
5:45
went with with uh Zalat in that
5:47
cinematic. I'm sorry. She went from
5:50
giving bedroom eyes continuously to uh
5:53
you know, Verissa to giving them to
5:55
Loramar. I'm like, "Do you just do that
5:57
with everybody? Like, it's distracting.
5:59
We're trying to fight you. Stop being
6:01
hot. Stupid hot. Not really an elf."
6:06
It's very distracting.
6:07
>> Very pretty. A pretty corpse, as we say.
6:09
So,
6:10
>> yes, that that is actually one of my
6:11
favorite lines from uh
6:14
>> Okay. Do we do we move on or does did
6:16
>> Stixie get a chance to talk about his
6:18
stuff? [clears throat]
6:19
>> I had a chance to talk about it yet. I
6:20
mean, it's funny cuz I love a lot of the
6:22
stuff that's coming out except for one
6:24
thing in particular. Um, but it all
6:27
looks real interesting except for that
6:29
one thing. Uh, but weirdly enough, the
6:30
one thing I was kind of looking forward
6:31
to was just being bored in the game for
6:34
a little while cuz there's been so much
6:36
content. I just wanted to maybe like
6:38
work on another character, work on the
6:40
house for a little while,
6:42
>> work on some other stuff. Yeah,
6:45
>> exactly. And there there is that here.
6:46
And it does it. I'm kind of happy that
6:48
this is sort of like a more um
6:52
a less intense patch in terms of just
6:54
giving you like fill the bar type of uh
6:56
assaults and whatnotss uh in the last
6:59
couple of uh patches we've had so far.
7:02
>> Um the one thing I'm not looking forward
7:04
to uh the Omnium Folio progression
7:07
system. So I know it's part of the
7:09
story. I know they're trying to install
7:11
it and I know it's only a u a uh what's
7:14
the term for it again?
7:16
um you know, borrowed power, right?
7:20
>> Yeah, that that sinful term. Yeah, the
7:22
the borrowed power system for only like
7:24
a half a patch. Um but there's a part of
7:27
me that still just like wretches at the
7:29
thought of like more borrowed power. So,
7:32
>> and it's like, you know, we're h we're
7:36
very late in this particular patch
7:38
cycle. We are not that far from patch
7:42
12.1. I mean, in a couple months,
7:45
>> a couple months, we're going to be in
7:46
12.1. Just think about that because
7:48
that's the hectic pace we're playing.
7:50
So, it feels like we're we're borrowing
7:53
power for maybe not a long time. Is this
7:56
going to be an expansion long power
7:58
system? I don't know. I think I'm more
8:00
excited about kind of the story that we
8:02
might get along with that because
8:04
there's this like backstory of Rometh
8:06
and Umbrich working together to make the
8:09
Omnium Folio work. So, I Boys, are you
8:13
ever just going to get along? Come on.
8:15
>> Oh, there's so many great couplings in
8:17
this game, in this expansion, I should
8:19
say. Yeah, but we're going to be working
8:21
with this, I think, until my guesstimate
8:23
is uh probably August 11th or August
8:26
18th, somewhere around there. It's And
8:28
we're probably going to be immediately
8:30
hearing about uh 12.1 as well.
8:33
>> Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I think that's
8:34
part of the reason that it's been just
8:35
such a slow news cycle is just they're
8:38
kind of holding back the gates and what
8:40
letting this come out and then all of a
8:41
sudden we're going to get a a fun little
8:43
deluge and a whole bunch of things going
8:45
on to the um the beta. So hashtag but
8:48
yeah, looks like a fun uh mini
8:50
expansion. So or fun mini patch I should
8:52
say. I mean mini very mini micro mini.
8:55
Um, but okay. Uh, I guess then we will
8:59
move on to talking about Overwatch. Um,
9:01
which now I used to always feel weird
9:03
when we would say that because I was
9:05
like, isn't it Overwatch 2 now? But now
9:07
I know Overwatch again. They went back
9:09
to being Overwatch.
9:10
>> So we're going to get the new season,
9:13
uh, season 3 into the Lion's Den. This
9:15
isn't the new season. This is the new
9:17
season since they went back to being
9:19
Overwatch. They started with like
9:21
>> Yeah, they started the count over.
9:23
>> Yeah. So that's going to start on June
9:26
16th as well. So June 16th is going to
9:28
basically be like this impact point
9:30
where everything comes out apparently.
9:32
>> You know how Blizzard just they love to
9:35
do everything at the same time. It's
9:37
crazy making. It's crazy making for us
9:40
in particular. Or they'll do it within
9:42
like eight like they'll do it between
9:43
like a week and six days of something
9:46
like they'll have an expansion for
9:49
Hearthstone and then literally two days
9:52
after an expansion for World of
9:53
Warcraft, things like that. They love to
9:56
do that. Um but I got
9:59
>> I got to ask, have we been unsequelled?
10:02
[laughter]
10:03
>> Yeah, kind of. They're trying real
10:05
They're trying real hard. So like
10:07
>> I I've been
10:08
>> Did we ever release the sequel? Yeah,
10:10
I've been real critical about this since
10:13
they released Overwatch 2 and because it
10:16
really wasn't a sequel in any meaningful
10:18
way aside from making the game
10:21
>> it was not.
10:21
>> Yeah,
10:22
>> it was essentially a glorified
10:23
expansion, right? And and I say this as
10:26
somebody who
10:28
>> even calling it an expansion is kind of
10:31
pushing it.
10:32
>> Yeah, it was addicted battle passes to
10:35
the game. That's that's kind of
10:38
>> that's really all it did. Yeah. Oh, no.
10:40
No. It also added taking away one
10:42
character and it in a group.
10:43
>> Yeah. From six to to five, which is is
10:46
not
10:47
>> It added subtracting.
10:49
>> Yeah. Uh all that aside, all that aside,
10:53
um it they lost traction. They lost sort
10:56
of the plot. They lost the soul. Um it
10:59
didn't capture like it didn't maintain
11:01
the momentum that it had. And it was the
11:05
premier hero shooter for a very very
11:08
long time. and they got complacent and
11:11
then they released Overwatch 2 and I'm
11:13
gonna air quote really big bold uh
11:16
italics. Um and then they started losing
11:19
to other heroes shoot the game
11:21
>> and then new kid on the block Marvel
11:23
rivals hit and everybody's taking to it
11:25
like gang busters. I saw a comment uh on
11:28
social media yesterday that made me
11:30
chuckle uh because of how like accurate
11:34
it is uh but also like how damning where
11:38
it's like I remember when the skill
11:41
ceiling in Overwatch was so high that I
11:45
would just I would feel like I was on
11:47
the seat of my pants sweating every
11:48
match. Now, I feel like all those
11:50
players went to Marvel and
11:52
>> and go ahead.
11:54
>> On the on the subject of Marvel Rivals,
11:56
it has a new season coming up uh 8.5
11:59
which is adding Cyclops. That's June
12:02
12th.
12:03
>> Yeah.
12:04
>> Welcome to Marvel Rival Watch.
12:05
>> And Fing Fang Fume has a map.
12:07
>> Oh, I can't wait for the dragon with
12:09
shorts.
12:09
>> Why are you guys not mentioning Double
12:10
Dinosaur? Well, you're going mad.
12:12
>> He's already in there, is he?
12:12
>> Yeah, he's been in there.
12:14
>> I think he's already in there. Cyclops
12:15
is Cyclops is
12:17
>> Cyclops is the new hotness.
12:19
>> Yeah,
12:21
>> right.
12:21
>> Cyclops is one of my favorite
12:22
characters.
12:23
>> I know.
12:24
>> But putting him into Marvel Rivals to me
12:26
is hilarious just for the potential of
12:29
all of his telepathic ex-girlfriends
12:32
who [laughter] will all be available.
12:34
>> Is Ellen Prior in there?
12:36
>> Uh well, I don't know if she is, but
12:38
Gene is
12:38
>> not that one. Not that one. Jean is and
12:41
and uh Emma is and technically Psylock
12:45
is although it's not that Psylock the
12:48
>> um I mean
12:49
>> others Psylock. [laughter]
12:52
>> Let's go through it. We have random
12:54
stuff. So you have like uh Devil
12:55
Dinosaur is in it already. You have
12:57
Angela Luna Snow which was created
12:59
specifically for this but also now as a
13:00
comic character.
13:02
>> Uh Black Cat Luna Snow was in Agents of
13:06
Atlas before Moment was Oh my god. Yes,
13:09
you're right. I stand corrected. Yeah, I
13:10
apologize. Uh, Elsa Bloodstone, uh,
13:13
which is a character that probably Matt
13:15
remembers, but I don't. And maybe 6K
13:17
remembers.
13:18
>> Yeah, she goes way back, too.
13:19
>> Uh, you have Emma Frost, you have
13:21
Psylock, one of the two Psylock. We
13:23
lived in the '9s. You'll recognize the
13:24
art. Cyclops being released, Deadpool's
13:27
in, Magic's in, Gambit's in, Daredevil's
13:29
in. There's a ton of characters already
13:32
in. And like, I'm not not even
13:34
scratching the spider people. I'm not
13:36
even scratching any of like the
13:38
>> You can play the robot spider person,
13:40
can't you?
13:40
>> Yeah, you can pay Penny You can pay as
13:41
Penny Parker with uh with her spider
13:43
robot. And uh if you play on uh
13:47
PlayStation, you get the Venom skin for
13:49
the robot as well, which is right now
13:53
Bloodstone. So,
13:55
>> yep.
13:56
>> Yeah, cloak and dagger. Clo daggers in
13:58
it. Um, I mean they they went deep on
14:01
some of the really cool uh Invisible
14:03
Woman also has a Malice skin if you
14:06
remember when she became Malice.
14:07
>> Oh god.
14:09
>> That weird run of the 90s.
14:10
>> Yeah.
14:12
>> Not not to take this away from
14:13
Overwatch, but that that kind of proves
14:16
the point, doesn't it? Like
14:18
>> it's I mean let's not say that there
14:21
aren't good characters in Overwatch. But
14:23
it is kind of like going up against
14:24
Marvel here is kind of like there's not
14:27
a lot of places they've got a roster
14:29
deep enough to get into that fight when
14:31
you really want to talk about it. Like
14:32
Marvel has a very deep they can put out
14:34
if they put out a game like Marvel
14:36
Rivals. They they can be putting
14:37
characters in that thing forever. Like I
14:40
you haven't told me yet that the
14:41
playable spider slayers are in and until
14:43
I hear that I mean I don't think they're
14:45
scraping.
14:46
>> One day we're gonna see Howard the Duck.
14:48
Just calling it now. They've Marvel has
14:50
such a deep bench they would have to go
14:52
a long long way to scrape the bottom of
14:55
the barrel. There's just
14:56
>> bottom of the barrel is actually in
14:57
space somewhat. Um but
14:59
>> and then of course you go multiversal
15:01
versions and it's like the bottom of the
15:02
barrel then you go to that barrel.
15:04
>> Uh but regardless we should talk about
15:07
we got to talk about I believe that's
15:09
her name
15:10
>> barrel.
15:10
>> It's the new hero for Overwatch. She is
15:13
hero 52. Um so again it's not like
15:17
Overwatcher slouches on a bench. They
15:19
got 52 at this point. Um, Shion feels
15:22
very Ghost in the Shell meets
15:25
>> Akira. Very Akira. Very big Akira vibes
15:29
with the motorcycle.
15:30
>> Yeah, motorcycle and the neck
15:32
cybernetics and the haircut, which if
15:35
you saw the Cyberpunk Edge Runners
15:36
thing, yes, it's Lucy from Cyberpunk
15:38
Edge Runners
15:39
>> with with horns, which you know,
15:40
>> with little tiny
15:40
>> double horns.
15:42
>> Yeah. So, it's not a tremendous like
15:45
it's not a bad design actually. I think
15:47
it looks pretty cool. I don't know
15:49
anything about her other than she has a
15:51
cool preview where she fights with
15:53
Sojurnn and you know there's also hero
15:57
51 who is Sierra and she's like kind of
16:01
in there too. Isn't she actually in the
16:03
the in
16:03
>> She's already in the game. The only hero
16:05
being added right now is Shian.
16:07
>> Yeah, but there the little movie they
16:09
put out for Shian has her kind of
16:11
fighting with Sierra. Yes, because uh
16:15
>> so
16:16
>> Sojourn
16:16
>> Sojurnn Shian is a foil is being poised
16:20
as a foil uh to Sojourn. Um and like
16:24
what we know of her background is she's
16:25
a gunslinging Hashimoto Mob. Like that's
16:28
really kind of about
16:29
>> uh yeah, I mean I think this is another
16:31
one Overwatch is kind of this uh year is
16:35
all about talon and kind of bringing the
16:38
villains into the spotlight. So, that's
16:40
kind of the story arc, but the story
16:43
going on in Overwatch right now is still
16:45
very lightweight. I would say at best
16:48
it's lightweight. Um, so the cinematic
16:52
looked really cool. It has a very cool
16:54
animation style, great action sequences,
16:57
and Overwatch has been doing these
16:59
cinematics lately that I've just every
17:01
time I see one, I'm like, "Okay, where's
17:03
the animated series?" Because these are
17:05
great. They have great animation and
17:08
just the action sequences are
17:10
incredible. You could easily turn this
17:12
into a larger animated series using the
17:14
same style. I if you if you put the
17:16
resources there and there's clearly an
17:19
audience for content like this. And what
17:21
I used to really love about Overwatch
17:23
was the narrative and the story because
17:25
the heroes had these backtories. They
17:27
were deeply tied into the larger world.
17:30
Overwatch did a lot of world building
17:32
which it is kind of abandoned and it
17:34
rolls out new heroes. It's rolled out
17:37
seven of them this year, I think. Maybe
17:40
eight.
17:40
>> I I don't know how many, but I know that
17:42
they at one point the road map had like
17:44
six new ones and they
17:45
>> there were there were 10 scheduled for
17:47
this year. So, they've been rolling out
17:49
a lot of heroes and they get these
17:50
little trailers that give that are
17:52
mostly action. They're mostly action.
17:54
They don't give you a lot of story. And
17:55
I got to say, the action looks really
17:57
cool. It's super cool. The heroes look
18:00
awesome, but it doesn't tell you who
18:02
they are. It doesn't give you a lot of
18:04
context. the context is really minimal.
18:07
So, I just wish I wish there was a
18:09
little more narrative to these
18:12
characters. An animated series would be
18:13
a great way to do that.
18:15
>> Or I agree with
18:17
>> some characters some characters though I
18:19
feel like they're better the less
18:20
narrative they have. I'm [laughter]
18:22
going to say I I still love Vendetta,
18:25
but that's only because Vendetta is
18:27
basically just an arms warrior. And I'm
18:29
cool. Just just that's what my in my
18:32
head cannon. Vendetta is a cosplaying
18:34
arms warrior. I understand that she's in
18:36
fact Lady Batman but evil. [laughter]
18:38
Um, which is essentially Prometheus from
18:41
from the DC or Wrath because they had
18:43
Prometheus before he was but it's
18:45
basically a villainous Batman.
18:47
>> Yeah,
18:47
>> my my villainist father is dead and I
18:49
will avenge him.
18:51
>> So yeah,
18:52
>> she looks amazing though. So these so
18:54
many of these characters just look so
18:56
fantastic. There's great visuals to a
18:58
lot of them and I feel like sometimes
19:00
okay if you're not going to bother to
19:02
give us the Bastion style
19:05
>> very wellought out
19:06
>> origin
19:07
>> so good that was such a and that was
19:10
such a good cinematic that just killed
19:12
it.
19:12
>> But regardless of the sky cinematic
19:15
>> it's the one where he's basically just
19:17
wandering around trying to figure out
19:18
what he's doing with his life and he
19:19
befriends a bird.
19:20
>> There's absolutely no dialogue and he
19:22
befriends a bird. That's the whole
19:24
story.
19:25
>> Yeah. just say though
19:29
>> Shian is a DPS character and that's all
19:31
we know about them in terms of gameplay
19:32
as of right now.
19:34
>> A gunslinger. We know that they're going
19:35
to be a gunslinger. So,
19:37
>> so it's cool. Another gunslinger. Those
19:39
are fun. Um but that's basically all
19:41
we've got.
19:43
>> Uh hopefully there will be more.
19:45
Probably since the season that's
19:47
debuting on June 16th, it'll probably be
19:51
sometime
19:51
>> very soon. You know, they usually
19:53
trickle out information and uh they just
19:56
announced this the day we were
19:58
recording. So, we'll get more. We'll get
20:00
more.
20:01
>> But yeah, it's really close to release.
20:04
So, you'll be able to see her in game
20:07
extremely soon.
20:09
>> And there's something about how Shian is
20:11
an omnic, like an actual not. Yeah,
20:16
she's an omnic,
20:17
>> but she's built with a humanoid face,
20:20
>> which I think is great because it's like
20:22
finally someone realized omnics don't
20:24
all have to look
20:25
>> like that one Omnic they introduced up
20:27
front or Zenyatta.
20:29
>> Uh they can they could actually have
20:31
humanoid faces. Why not?
20:33
>> Echo Ekko has like kind of a holographic
20:36
humanoid face. I don't know if you call
20:38
her an omnic, but she's certainly a
20:40
robot. Are all robots in the universe
20:42
omnics? I think omnics are specifically
20:45
the kind of machines that were
20:46
originally designed in the Omniums.
20:47
Those giant See, here I am dumping out
20:49
story for a game that was
20:51
>> Yeah. story that Yeah. story that just
20:54
they aren't putting effort into anymore,
20:56
which that just makes it really sad.
20:58
>> So, they take off their shoe, they shake
20:59
it out, and story falls out and they use
21:01
that. So, I remember when they used to
21:03
release like web comics, you know,
21:04
videos and stuff like that to kind
21:06
>> I just remember the 20page preview that
21:08
they had for the graphic novel they were
21:10
going to do and then they didn't do it
21:12
>> and I was like, man, that was a good
21:14
preview. But
21:14
>> wait, didn't they release a graphic
21:16
novel though?
21:16
>> No, they didn't. They got they they
21:18
broke
21:20
>> Go ahead.
21:20
>> I'm having a I'm having a Mandela effect
21:22
with something on my shelf right now.
21:23
But Liz, go ahead.
21:25
They did a few um they did some web
21:28
comics, but they didn't do a full-on
21:30
graphic novel.
21:31
>> Yeah, there was going to be a big one
21:32
about the origins of Overwatch and how
21:34
all the characters like uh you know,
21:37
Reaper and Soldier 76 and how those
21:41
characters and and Anna, how they all
21:43
got together, how they were, you know,
21:44
part of the original team. They did
21:47
release an anthology if that's what uh I
21:50
think it was a collection of like the
21:51
web comics or something like that could
21:53
put into print form but that was
21:55
>> yeah they didn't do the Dark Horse one
21:56
which was literally going to be
21:57
published at Darkhorse. So that was a
21:59
big bummer for me because I'm like
22:01
thinking oh god why do they keep doing
22:02
this every time that I'm like excited
22:04
for a comic they cancel it. It's like
22:06
the comics they were Lilith and then
22:08
they didn't do it because they're like
22:09
oh wait a minute we're giving away who
22:11
the villain of the next game is. Then I
22:13
>> but they
22:14
>> but they announced it so we already
22:16
know.
22:17
>> They knew.
22:18
>> Then they just didn't do it and I was
22:20
they were like no they'll forget. And
22:22
meanwhile I'm writing article after
22:23
article. It's Lilith. It's Lilith guys.
22:26
It's going to be Lilith. And everyone's
22:27
like Matt calm down. It's not going to
22:28
be Lilith. And then I cut to cut to um
22:33
>> it was more Matt calm down. We all know
22:35
it's going to be Lilith.
22:37
>> Yeah. But still I was excited. And then
22:39
you get to you get to Blizzard Watch
22:41
2019 and and they do the cinematic and
22:43
I'm I'm literally standing up and
22:45
screaming, "I knew it." And [laughter]
22:47
everybody else was like, "Yeah, we know.
22:49
Everyone knew it. Calm down. Sit him
22:52
down. He's excited." Um, but regardless,
22:55
I was sad. Uh,
22:58
>> okay.
22:58
>> Holding it in my hand right now. It is
23:00
an anthology. It was released by
23:02
Darkhorse. Overwatch anthology volume 1.
23:05
So,
23:06
>> so I guess that is the print of the uh
23:08
Yeah. the web comic. So,
23:10
>> which is and again not a bad thing. The
23:11
web comic still exists. They they still
23:13
pull out like new stuff for that occas.
23:19
And again, I'm I want to move on past
23:21
this, but my last comment is like Marvel
23:24
rivals their story because they're
23:26
Marvel. There's an ongoing comic series
23:30
for this and the characters cross into
23:32
the universe, the prime universe often.
23:36
uh the Spider-Man from there has been in
23:38
the Spider-Verse stuff like it's it's a
23:41
thing and they've been really weaving it
23:42
in and building the world and the
23:44
connection to the greater Marvel
23:45
universe and they could have done or
23:48
been doing something like that with
23:50
Overwatch for a while. Um which it just
23:54
again it feels like a missed
23:55
opportunity. We were supposed to get
23:56
that animated series and we didn't and
23:58
then Arcane came out and then Arcane
23:59
came out
24:01
>> and Matt uh the recent Storm series have
24:04
have either of you been reading it? No,
24:06
not yet. Canled. Yeah, Marvel went
24:10
didn't just go like multiverse. It went
24:12
omniverse and just had Storm like flying
24:14
through the Dragon Ball Z universe, the
24:16
DC universe, just like the name a comic
24:20
doing crossover and amalgam stuff again
24:21
too. Yeah, like it's
24:23
>> but they had an opportunity that
24:25
Blizzard could have done a lot of that
24:27
with Overwatch and they didn't.
24:29
>> No, it's such a good property. like that
24:32
that gets uh a comment I wanted to make
24:33
earlier when Liz was talking about it
24:35
and about how like it's just on the edge
24:37
of drawing her in is it's also on the
24:39
edge of like bringing me in too. like if
24:41
there was a decent semi- single player
24:44
thing or a way to kind of build these
24:45
characters up a little more or there was
24:47
more to like what was going on with
24:48
these characters that I could discover
24:50
that I could make it into more of a I
24:52
don't want to say necessarily a
24:53
lifestyle but just sort of a fandom I
24:55
could sort of like really dig into and
24:58
they just constantly stopped short
24:59
before ever actualizing on it. So
25:02
>> well that was that was supposed to be
25:03
Overwatch 2. that was supposed to be
25:05
Overwatch 2 was going to add this story
25:07
mode
25:09
>> uh like a I think it was going to be
25:10
co-op
25:11
>> and yeah it's they just they dropped it.
25:14
They dropped everything and it's just
25:16
[sighs and gasps]
25:16
>> yeah I mean Play Nice actually has a uh
25:19
good dissertation on how things kind of
25:22
I don't want to say fell apart because
25:23
Overwatch is still a game and it's
25:24
running and it's it's doing very well.
25:26
Um but also it talks about
25:29
>> okay on about how Yeah. about how like
25:32
the the engine kind of just got turned
25:33
off and the car got left outside. So,
25:36
>> and but it does get into a little bit
25:38
about just the production issues and
25:40
just everything else in there and yeah
25:42
and about how they had big dreams and at
25:44
the same time nobody was really doing
25:46
anything right. So,
25:47
>> I I do want to talk about the Diablo
25:49
stuff, but I'm going to say I don't
25:51
think you can be too surprised when both
25:53
the general director of the entire game
25:55
and the head of the entire narrative
25:57
both leave for other companies within
26:00
months of each other. Like Michael Chay
26:02
and and uh
26:03
>> yeah,
26:04
>> Jeff Kaplan both left within months of
26:07
each other. And that that is the kind of
26:09
thing that when you do that um they did
26:12
it also for Diablo I but with Diablo I
26:17
it was for different reasons. Regardless
26:19
though we should talk about Diablo
26:21
Immortal because on June 17th switching
26:24
it up like the crazy crazy people they
26:26
are. Diablo Immortal is going to get
26:28
Warlocks because I we every game that
26:32
they're currently supporting at all has
26:33
warlocks in it now and didn't
26:35
previously, but they've put all the
26:37
Diablos except one because that one's
26:39
not technically in maintenance. Uh has
26:42
Warlocks now. And if they put out a DLC
26:44
pack for Diablo II with Warlocks in it,
26:47
I wouldn't be surprised. But regardless,
26:49
Diablo, I I would be surprised because
26:52
they're trying so hard to forget that
26:54
Diablo II exists. They're they're
26:57
working so hard to not acknowledge this
27:00
game.
27:00
>> Well, both to not acknowledge and also
27:03
cannibalize.
27:05
>> I feel like in a basement and they're
27:08
every so often go down and pull out an
27:09
organ and bring it up and go, "We want
27:11
to incorporate this into the creature."
27:13
So, yeah, but you know, we got a
27:15
cinematic trailer for the warlock. It's
27:17
weird because I I haven't played the
27:20
warlock in D2. I have played the warlock
27:23
in D4. The warlock in D4 feels very much
27:28
like if you could play the cult of of
27:32
Adam from Fallout
27:34
as a player character with demons
27:37
instead of the atomic bomb. Like they
27:39
>> don't make me want to play this anymore.
27:41
[laughter]
27:41
>> It's It is weird. It's very culty and it
27:44
feels very much like
27:46
>> It feels desperate. There's a
27:48
desperation to it. It's like, "All
27:49
right, all right then. I'll summon this
27:52
thing." And it's like, oh my, did you
27:54
call fourth ball? No, not quite, but
27:57
pretty close. Um, and it it's Meanwhile,
28:01
Diablo II, they kind of have the, from
28:03
what I understand from reading it, but
28:05
with the stuff they had for it, Diablo
28:07
II warlocks are very sort of like
28:08
dabbler. They're like almost rich people
28:11
who found the daddy's first evil spell
28:13
>> book. That that is in fact their
28:15
backstory is that they are rich kids who
28:19
started dabbling in dark magic for fun.
28:22
Yeah. And so I want to see what they're
28:24
like in Immortal. Like they don't have
28:27
the crazy we're on our we're absolutely
28:29
desperate. We we know everything's going
28:31
to happen bad. We just saw like 9/10 of
28:34
humanity get wiped out. They don't have
28:36
that vibe. But they don't have the vibe
28:38
from D2 of like, you know, hey Bryce,
28:41
did you see this spell where I could
28:43
summon a monster? It's totally crazy.
28:45
[laughter]
28:46
So I I I am willing to see that.
28:49
Immortal is such a weird game where it's
28:51
actually it's pretty good and that's so
28:54
odd to me.
28:56
>> Yeah,
28:56
>> it's a great Diablo game and I think
28:59
part of what makes it great is it takes
29:01
after Diablo II in a big way
29:04
>> and uh it's just a really solid game.
29:07
You you really have to ignore the
29:10
monetization of it, but you can play it
29:12
and ignore the monetization. you can uh
29:15
>> well it's kind of like I mean for that
29:17
matter at least to a certain degree I
29:19
like that there's not as many like
29:21
Diablo 4's monetization is doesn't have
29:23
anything that you can buy that will make
29:24
your character stronger but it really
29:27
does feel like there's almost no cool
29:29
looks that don't come from
29:31
>> uh yeah yeah it does
29:33
>> and that's a problem for me because I I
29:36
I've already spent way more money on
29:37
this than I should have uh and I cannot
29:40
justify anymore I'm glad that I got the
29:43
World of Warcraft stuff I when I did.
29:45
But nevertheless, I I I feel like it was
29:48
easier to ignore immortal because it was
29:52
power stuff. Like it was the best in
29:54
slot gems and a faster progression
29:57
track. And by ignoring it, I felt
29:59
enobled in a weird sort of way. Like I'm
30:02
playing the game on hard mode. Now it's
30:03
like I'm playing the game on wearing a
30:05
bag on my head mode.
30:08
Oh, so yeah, but that's coming out uh
30:12
again on the 17th. So, one day after
30:14
everything else is coming out, we got a
30:16
day of rest and then Warlock and Diablo
30:19
Immortal hit. And Diablo Immortal has
30:21
some wild classes already. They've
30:23
already got the blood knight.
30:25
>> Uh they've got the Tempest, which is
30:27
like a storm
30:29
>> shaman type thing. I think the Tempest
30:32
is really cool and I think the Tempest
30:33
is a class that would fit into Diablo I
30:35
really well, but uh we have not made any
30:37
leaps like that in Diablo I.
30:39
>> I think it's unfortunate that they went
30:41
with the spirit walker in Diablo I. I
30:43
know what they were going for. Uh but I
30:45
don't think that they made the design
30:47
distinct enough ultimately cuz it just
30:49
feels very monk from D3.
30:53
>> Yeah. And maybe tiny bit witch doctor.
30:56
It has a witch doctor vibe but a monk
30:59
play style. Yeah, it's like they they
31:01
took the like a the witch doctor's skin
31:04
and just put it over the the monk,
31:07
>> which then makes the monk look really
31:09
weird because he's off and the the witch
31:11
doctor wasn't, so it didn't doesn't fit
31:12
quite right. It's kind of stretching.
31:15
Uh, but you know, it's I I liked some of
31:17
the lore of it. I actually think there's
31:19
a lot of pretty cool lore for the spirit
31:20
walker, but it doesn't play like
31:22
anything like the warlock plays real
31:25
different
31:26
>> even than the the necroman. and it's
31:28
managed. The necro and the warlock don't
31:31
really step on each other's toes very
31:33
much in terms of what they do and how
31:35
they do it. Um, but I will say that the
31:37
necromancer, and this is I mean this
31:40
literally, the necromancer is cooler.
31:42
It's it feels cool. It feels like you're
31:46
not in any hurry. You're the you're the
31:48
bringer of death. You you control
31:50
balance. You summon forth these minions.
31:53
Or you don't if you don't want to do
31:55
that, you can just have the book
31:57
instead. And there's there's a kind of
31:59
grim relentlessness, but it's also very
32:01
it's very much like this is not somebody
32:04
who turns around to look at explosions.
32:06
The warlock does because the warlock is
32:08
setting explosions everywhere and
32:10
they're like, "Yeah, look at all the
32:12
explosions." And the the the necromancer
32:14
is turning and going, "Chill, chill out.
32:16
Come on, take a break. Take a breath.
32:19
It's fine." Okay.
32:20
>> This is the immortal warlock we're
32:22
talking about.
32:22
>> No, this is that's D4. I don't know. I
32:25
haven't seen the immortal one yet.
32:26
That's the thing.
32:28
>> The cinematic trailer is a cinematic
32:29
trailer. It's not gameplay.
32:31
>> Okay.
32:32
>> So,
32:32
>> no, it's funny because I'm right now
32:33
like
32:34
>> very deep into Trust Fun Warlock and
32:36
Diablo II
32:37
>> and uh I' I'm on in the process right
32:39
now of leveling my fourth one and just
32:42
just so I can like run up the skill tree
32:43
and just see how they all perform and
32:45
stuff. And they're all overpowered as
32:47
all get out right now, which you know is
32:49
just super fun. Um but they're fun too.
32:52
They're interesting new ways of playing
32:54
things. There's graphics to all of it.
32:55
like it's it's just a fun little easy
32:58
thing almost like in its sort of 8bit
33:00
16- bit sort of like throwback motif
33:02
with everything else going on. So, it's
33:04
something that's really enjoyable, but
33:06
it's also one of those things where it's
33:07
like now the the the Warlock gateway
33:09
where it's like now that I've done this
33:10
in Diablo II, it really makes me want to
33:12
pick up the Warlock in Diablo I and I'm
33:14
even debating about playing Diablo. It's
33:17
not D4 is really the D4 Warlock is
33:19
really well done. But
33:22
>> do you like a lot of bright neon
33:24
effects?
33:25
>> It's what I live for.
33:26
>> Okay, then this [laughter] is for you
33:28
because there's one effect in particular
33:30
that I don't know where it's from. I
33:31
forget where it's from because I haven't
33:32
gotten it yet. But when it is basically
33:35
a gigantic pink neon glowing circle out
33:38
which leap constant demonic hands the
33:40
size of pickup trucks just jumping out
33:42
of this thing constantly grabbing
33:44
everything around them. And it's like
33:46
I'm running around doing barbarian
33:48
stuff. When that starts happening, I'm
33:49
like I stop because I'm not even trying
33:51
to compete with that. Like what? This
33:54
this is less an attack and more like a
33:56
rave. I found myself in a demonic rave.
33:59
Okay.
34:00
>> I'm trying to pick up epilepsy the same
34:02
way uh Candy is trying to pick up
34:04
diabetes. So
34:05
>> yeah, pretty much. It is. It is wild. Uh
34:09
I really do like it and also hate it.
34:11
Like it's one of those things where it
34:15
it can Diablo 4 I've not found much that
34:18
can slow this that slows it down when
34:20
I'm playing it. It's usually pretty good
34:23
even on my old my Xbox which at this
34:25
point is several years old pretty good
34:26
at handling it. Warlocks just my
34:29
computer is going insane. My computer is
34:31
like what is that? Oh lord. So there is
34:35
that problem. But regardless,
34:38
um we're gonna see the the the last
34:40
version, although it's the middle. It's
34:42
the bridge between uh D2 and D4
34:44
essentially. I am curious to see how it
34:47
comes out. Like what what do they
34:48
present their warlocks as? Because the
34:50
trust fun warlock to my mind is the most
34:53
thematically appropriate. It's the Cotch
34:55
brothers. It's the ch it's the various
34:59
children of Larry Ellison destroying our
35:00
media companies. It's that kind of
35:03
thing, but with, you know, it's a nice a
35:05
nice easy to understand metaphor for
35:08
what they're doing. Diablo 4 is very
35:10
much a ah ah ah I've I've done Breaking
35:14
Bad the the demon part. So, you know,
35:17
it's it's you know, what's your name?
35:20
Warlockius, you're damn uh it just it's
35:23
just very [laughter]
35:24
crazy and I I like it quite a lot, but
35:27
at the same time, it is it is very much
35:30
not that first thing. it. Do you
35:31
remember that like weird little squirrel
35:32
thing with fangs from the Ice Age
35:34
movies?
35:35
>> Oh, that
35:36
>> if that thing talked to demons, it would
35:39
be a warlock. Like that's just how
35:41
warlocks feel in
35:42
>> Again, selling it very well. Now, if
35:44
only they released the warlock for
35:45
Overwatch.
35:47
[laughter]
35:47
>> They could just have like, you know,
35:49
like a like an anomnic named war.
35:53
>> Lock. Yeah, it'd be be a healer.
35:56
Or hey, you could go play Marvel Marvel
35:58
Rivals where you could just play Warlock
36:00
who isn't
36:01
>> play Adam Warlock.
36:02
>> Adam Warlock or Damian Hellstrom who is
36:05
a Warlock
36:07
>> or an a sapiient alien technoirus from
36:11
space who is also named Warlock.
36:14
>> So you've got three Warlocks.
36:16
>> Oh, what was his name? It was one of the
36:17
uh cipher so I can't think of the name
36:21
of the race. Yeah, that was Warlock. No,
36:22
no. The
36:24
>> the the
36:25
>> Oh my god, I can't believe I'm dropping
36:26
the name on this.
36:26
>> The techn the Technarchy. Those guys.
36:29
>> No, but they had a feel name. Failank.
36:32
That's what it is. Yeah,
36:33
>> the failank.
36:34
>> I thought Failance was Warlock and that
36:36
Cipher was Cipher. So,
36:38
>> Cipher is Cipher, but Warlock is there
36:40
was one at one point where Cipher was
36:42
also Warlock
36:43
>> because Warlock was animating his body,
36:46
>> right?
36:47
>> We got we got to move on to other things
36:49
otherwise we will just be talking about
36:50
this all day. Uh, really quickly, Diablo
36:53
4 CT the season 14 PTR just ended. We've
36:56
talked about it last week. I'm just
36:58
reminding you guys that it ended and I
37:00
was I was on it for two days this week
37:02
and I just want to tell you any panic
37:04
you're getting from anybody out there
37:05
about how this is unplayable now. No,
37:08
it's almost exactly the same. You'll
37:10
barely notice a difference. Uh, the only
37:12
stuff that's really changed and needs
37:15
time to get understood is stuff like the
37:18
way uniques and mythics are working. But
37:20
I will also say this, war plans get more
37:23
stuff, including like like bigger
37:26
challenge versions of war plans we have
37:29
now. There's one that I did that was
37:31
like instead of the Hell Tides one, it
37:34
was like greater Hell Tides and you have
37:37
to do a whole bunch of other stuff to
37:39
complete it, but it's it gives more
37:41
rewards. So the hell they've made
37:43
improvements to uh your war plans.
37:46
They've added new there's even like
37:48
supposedly mythic versions that are I've
37:50
not seen yet. Like it doesn't just you
37:52
don't just have the regular one, the
37:53
blue one, and the the you know yellowy
37:56
one. They also have ones that are like
37:58
supposedly of mythic difficulty like
38:00
purple. I haven't seen those, but I did
38:02
see the other stuff. There's a lot more
38:04
stuff that's perfectly good coming and
38:07
even the stuff that's weird like the the
38:10
new like the pandemonium rift type thing
38:13
that's coming in. That's actually pretty
38:16
fun to do. Uh, just don't do it in like
38:20
do it either outside or in a heroic
38:23
dungeon. Don't do it in in a pit like
38:26
because they're they're real hard to do
38:28
in pits. Uh, you end up like dragging
38:31
the entire the whole area right into
38:34
you. The whole floor will just be right
38:36
on top of you while you're trying to
38:37
kill things to keep this thing open. I
38:39
mean, you can do it. Just be aware that
38:41
it's a little harder in some enclosed
38:42
spaces as it than compared to being
38:45
outside. When it's outside, you can just
38:46
go anywhere. You can see where
38:47
everything is. And you're remember that
38:49
you're killing stuff inside these things
38:51
to make them keep them from shrinking.
38:53
You want to keep them open as long as
38:55
possible. When they manifest through a
38:57
wall, sometimes you can't even see that
38:59
they're doing anything. It can be like,
39:00
where is it? Oh, it's up there. So, keep
39:03
that in mind when you're doing it. It's
39:04
a little different as inside experience,
39:05
but nothing about it is crazy bad.
39:08
Nothing about it is this is unplayable.
39:11
Some of it's better. A lot of it's
39:13
pretty much the same. And even stuff
39:14
that's supposedly been pretty heavily
39:16
nerfed, like barbarians, I I play
39:18
barbarians primarily. I played a
39:19
barbarian on it. I felt very little
39:22
problem doing the same kind of stuff I
39:24
was doing. Maybe it was a little weaker,
39:26
but not enough that I could really felt
39:28
like I was in any danger. That's just my
39:30
take. Um, but now we move on to other
39:34
games. And first before you do that
39:37
though, uh I'm going to do the thing I
39:38
always do where I ask Liz to to do the
39:40
site news so that we don't accidentally
39:42
forget to do that before the end of the
39:44
show. [laughter]
39:45
[gasps]
39:46
>> Uh I really just want to say thank you
39:48
to all of our listeners out there. Thank
39:51
you so much for tuning in and listening
39:52
every week. I if if you didn't, we'd
39:56
just be talking to ourselves and then
39:57
this would just be a a conversation that
39:59
we recorded, which would be weird. Why
40:02
do we need to record our conversations?
40:05
But because of you, it is a podcast and
40:07
I am glad you are all here. But I want
40:09
to give an extra special thanks
40:12

40:20
you're you're the reason we're all here.
40:23
So, I want to say if you are able to
40:25

40:30
and uh toss us a few dollars a month.
40:32
For $3 a month, you get early access to
40:35
all of our podcasts, ads free. And for
40:39
$5 a month, you also get early access to
40:41
everything, not you also get ads free
40:45
access to the website. There's there's
40:47
no early access there. We we write
40:49
things and we publish them. Uh so if you
40:53
can uh patreon.com/blizzardwatch
40:56
that really helps us out and keeps us
40:58
going even in even in thin months it it
41:01
keeps us going rain or shine. So I
41:03
appreciate all of you who are able to
41:06
give us that support. If you can't
41:07
support us financially I completely
41:09
understand life is crazy. It's an
41:12
understatement. Um, but you are

41:34
that's great. That's great. If you

way of saying thank you for supporting
42:41
us. So, thank you to everyone out there.
42:44
Uh you guys are what keep us going. So,
42:47
thanks so much
42:49
>> and thank you to Liz for reading that
42:52
because man, I I that's a lot and I
42:54
would I would stumble a lot. So, thank
42:56
you. I really do appreciate it. I'm not
42:58
kidding. I'm actually a little terrified
43:00
of that. But [laughter]
43:02
on to other games. Uh first up, the one
43:05
I wanted to talk about, and sometimes I
43:07
I just throw things in here and start
43:09
going nuts. And uh this time is one of
43:12
them. Uh I don't know how many guys and
43:15
girls out there remember Godzilla
43:17
Destroyer Monsters Melee. It was a big
43:20
game in like 2002, 2003, and the first
43:24
of a trilogy of games. And it's
43:27
basically it it is what it's the title
43:29
destroy all monsters melee is you get to
43:31
play one of 12 kaiju in a kind of
43:35
environment smashing punch them up. It's
43:37
similar to but not the same as a
43:41
sidescrolling like Street Fighter or
43:43
Tekken. Imagine if instead you can pivot
43:46
through the map. you can use the map
43:49
because you're kaiju like you know
43:50
you're if you're Godzilla fighting um
43:53
King Gira as an example you could pick
43:56
up the breakable environment and throw
43:58
it at your opponents you shoot like
44:00
laser you know whatever energy attacks
44:02
they might have they can use Godzilla
44:05
you know the atomic breath or Gro with
44:07
the the gravity lightning from his
44:09
various mouths and it was beloved by
44:13
many including myself so when I saw out
44:16
of nowhere where that they are
44:19
remastering it for, you know, modern
44:22
Xbox consoles, the current PlayStation,
44:25
uh the PlayStation 5, right? It's five.
44:26
Please tell me it's five. Uh PlayStation
44:29
5, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2 will
44:33
all be getting uh Godzilla Destroy All
44:35
Monsters Melee with the original co-op
44:38
where you could play on the couch with
44:39
with your friend or online co-op. So now
44:43
you can play with your friend who has an
44:45
Xbox. you could basically just, you
44:47
know, both of you could do it. That
44:49
there is nothing about whether or not
44:50
you're going to have con, you know,
44:52
console compatibility across consoles. I
44:55
don't know if they're doing that. Like,
44:57
you know, if for an example, Diablo II
45:00
is on multiple consoles, but is not
45:03
compatible between any of them. If you
45:05
have a PlayStation, I have an Xbox and
45:07
our friend has a computer, none of them
45:09
can play with each other. We don't know
45:11
if that will be the case here. Um, but
45:14
we do know that the game will be out as
45:17
of November of 2026. In fact, the the
45:21
date in particular, November 23rd, is
45:23
Godzilla's birthday.
45:24
>> Yeah, it's intentional.
45:26
>> Yeah, it's the day that Godzilla the
45:28
first full movie.
45:29
>> Yeah, Godzilla's like 71 this year, by
45:31
the way.
45:32
>> Doesn't look a day over 400.
45:34
>> No, it really doesn't. [laughter]
45:35
Um, but regardless, it the game was
45:39
originally put out by Pipe Works, and
45:40
they're the ones who are doing the
45:41
remaster. Pipeworks has been through a
45:43
lot of owners since this as you might
45:45
expect for a for a company over the
45:47
course of 23 years. Things come and
45:49
things go, but it's still owned by some,
45:52
you know, it's owned by a different
45:54
company, but the people who run it are
45:55
still mostly the same people who ran it
45:57
back then. There of course been new
45:59
hires and so forth, but it's still cool
46:01
to see that Pipeworks are the ones doing
46:02
the remaster. So, you know, they at
46:04
least have some sense of how this game
46:06
originally played. Um, and a lot of the
46:10
stuff they're talking about, and they've
46:11
already had like a couple of, you know,
46:13
press conferences and so forth. A lot of
46:15
stuff they're talking about is to try
46:17
and preserve the original feel, but also
46:20
to to make it the look more modern. One
46:22
example of the fact is when they're when
46:24
they did the big reveal of this, they
46:27
have like a like a five minute scene of
46:29
people playing it, like literally the
46:30
the the kaiju fighting. And the Godzilla
46:33
in this, unlike the Godzilla back then,
46:35
who was the Millennium era Godzilla
46:38
because it came out in like 2003. The
46:40
Godzilla in these scenes is the Heyay
46:41
Godzilla from the '90s, who had a skin,
46:44
but it was just called '90s Godzilla,
46:46
and it wasn't that great. The one they
46:48
have now, when you see it, it looks like
46:49
Heyay Godzilla, like from the movies. It
46:52
It's actually extremely well done skin
46:54
in these, right? And it's seen moving
46:56
and and doing destruction stuff. So, not
46:59
only do they have that, it also has
47:01
Showa era Mecha Godzilla, which is a
47:03
different skin than the one they used in
47:05
the original. They only had Kiru.
47:06
>> Yeah.
47:07
>> In the in the uh 2003, and only for I
47:10
think Sony, only for the PlayStation
47:12
version.
47:12
>> Not the one with the ears.
47:14
>> No. Well, it might be, but it's the one
47:15
with the shoulder cannons.
47:17
>> Uh yeah. [snorts] Yeah.
47:19
>> But regardless, I don't know a lot about
47:22
what this is going to be. Um, I'm hoping
47:24
that if this does well, we'll get
47:25
remasters of the entire Pipeworks
47:28
trilogy. But regardless, I'm just so
47:30
excited that I will finally have uh a
47:34
Godzilla beat him up game just to play
47:36
whenever I want to. Just that's it. I I
47:39
had to I had to do this. Had to talk
47:41
about it. I'm so excited. And now I'm
47:44
going to turn to Joe because he did a
47:46
lot of stuff here that that he wanted to
47:48
talk about. And also because I think we
47:50
got to talk about game game guild wars,
47:52
right? Hey, we got to talk about Guild
47:52
Wars.
47:53
>> Oh, we are talking about Guild Wars
47:57
because one of the other games that was
47:59
announced uh over the last week or so uh
48:02
was Guild Wars 3
48:06
uh finally announced, which if you're
48:08
not a Guild Wars fan, uh I I I really
48:11
can see Kelchis uh coming on here and,
48:14
you know, talking with me for hours
48:15
about it. Um, it's been an MMO that has
48:18
stood the test of time from Arenaet, uh,
48:21
moving from Guild Wars 1 to Guild Wars 2
48:22
with just, we just talked about it not
48:25
too terribly long ago when the last
48:27
expansion released, and now we can see,
48:31
uh, Guild Wars 3, which promises to be
48:34
an evolution of MMO, whatever that
48:36
means. However, we have some inklings
48:39
from the trailer, uh, with more
48:41
information to come. Uh we know that
48:43
this is a prequel to Guild War uh taking
48:46
place in probably the far distant past
48:49
uh with the before the gods fall and
48:52
that whole war broke out. Uh so you get
48:54
to actually play as a veil warden during
48:57
that time which is wild. Um you are a
49:01
guardian of the land of ore which is the
49:03
planet that you're on. Um, you protect
49:06
people and spirits, which if you are
49:08
familiar with Guild Wars, that's kind of
49:10
a big thing because there is a
49:12
separation between the spirit realm and
49:14
uh the physical realm that happened as a
49:16
result of the war that broke out. Um,
49:18
and it's going to apparently have a
49:22
bigger focus on mobility. And we're not
49:24
just talking about like dragon riding
49:26
like in WoW. We're talking, hey, you
49:29
want to run up that side of the
49:30
mountain? Go ahead and do it. you can
49:32
just scale going super super fast. Uh
49:35
and it looks really really cool. Um
49:38
there's also uh we know there's going to
49:41
be special mounts. There's always
49:42
special mounts. It's a key feature of
49:44
Guild Wars uh that's been around since
49:46
Guild Wars. Uh and it is super super uh
49:49
I am I am so excited for this. And Guild
49:52
Wars 2 has been around for what 15 years
49:55
at this point. I think
49:57
>> a pretty good while.
49:59
>> Yeah.
50:00
>> I Yeah,
50:01
>> it Guild Wars 2 is 15 this year, right?
50:04
>> Yeah, Guild Wars 2 is 15 this year.
50:06
Guild Wars 1 has been around for how
50:08
long before that. Like there's
50:10
>> years
50:10
>> there's a holy trilogy of of MMOs really
50:12
at this point and it is literally World
50:15
of Warcraft, Guild Wars, and Final
50:17
Fantasy 14. And they like scratch every
50:19
itch.
50:21
>> But I'm so excited for this. And it
50:23
looks like I'm going to be able to play
50:24
as a coden, which is a bear person. And
50:27
I am super excited about this cuz I can
50:29
play as a bear person running up the
50:31
side of a mountain doing all god knows
50:33
what fighting gods. I'm going to be so
50:36
happy. I am so in for this. Um
50:39
>> if I understand correctly with this
50:41
being a this is a prequel to the
50:42
original. The order in terms of time
50:45
would be Guild Wars 3, then Guild Wars,
50:47
then Guild Wars 2.
50:48
>> Guild Wars 3, then whatever comes out
50:51
after it because Guild Wars 3 is taking
50:53
place a thousand years before Guild Wars
50:55
and Guild Wars 2. Um, so you have a long
50:58
swath of time in between. So, it depends
51:01
on how far they want to take this and
51:03
what they want to do with it. Uh, and
51:05
they've been Arenaet has been really
51:07
good about releasing EP like I don't
51:09
want to say episodic content, but their
51:11
cadence for expansions has been pretty
51:14
good. And I think they're going to take
51:16
that lesson learned into this. And I
51:19
think this is going to be either a
51:21
long-standing game uh with is going to
51:24
start spanning some of that time frame.
51:26
Uh it might be I don't want to say an
51:28
eternal game, but that might be part of
51:29
their goal or at least as close to it uh
51:31
with something that sets it up and then
51:33
just keeps goingated content because
51:35
we've already seen them do that in Guild
51:37
Wars 2 where every expansion advances
51:40
the story, new things, and changes the
51:43
world. Uh so it I'm excited for it. Like
51:47
I'm I'm babbling a little bit because
51:49
when I saw this trailer, I literally was
51:52
screaming in the middle of work. Like
51:55
[laughter] I was so excited. I was so
51:58
happy. But yeah, that's that's big
52:00
thing. And if you are if you haven't
52:02
tried Guild Wars in the past, um, highly
52:06
recommend it. The Guild Wars I goes on
52:08
sale really frequently. There is no
52:10
subscription to play it. It is a
52:12
free-to-play game. Um there there is no
52:14
element of really purchase power. Um
52:17
there is purchase transmog like that's a
52:19
real money transaction. Uh but at the
52:21
end of the day for a free MMO uh it
52:24
doesn't get much better and it has one
52:25
of the coolest takes on a necromancer
52:28
that I've ever seen. So highly recommend
52:30
at least giving it a shot if you pick it
52:32
up for like you know the $5. Okay. I've
52:34
talked a lot about that. Do you guys
52:35
have any comments on that or anything
52:36
you want to add before I start talking
52:37
about other stuff?
52:38
>> I do want to add and you kind of touched
52:39
on this with the movement. It talks
52:41
about this being an action combat game.
52:44
>> Yeah.
52:44
>> I Yeah. Where So
52:48
I I think we're going to see this uh
52:51
different from something like World of
52:52
Warcraft where you may have more just a
52:55
more action style gameplay. And one of
52:58
the things is it is releasing on console
53:00
as well as PC. It's currently set to
53:02
release on PlayStation 5. Uh Xbox is not
53:05
listed, but I would not be surprised if
53:07
it shows up at some point in the future.
53:09
So, you do have to kind of make a game
53:13
in the appropriate style to be easy to
53:16
play on consoles. And if they're
53:18
planning on putting it on consoles from
53:20
the ground up, you may see that
53:22
reflected in gameplay everywhere. So, I
53:24
am very interested and like you said,
53:26
Joe, I saw I could play a bear person
53:28
and I'm like, that's it. That's it. I'm
53:31
>> come play a with [laughter]
53:35
any dinosaur people, so I'm safe. But I
53:38
mean, it does sound a little bit like
53:39
they're talking about the way The Elder
53:40
Scrolls Online kind of has more of a
53:43
>> movementbased in its fighting. Although
53:45
it it let's be upfront, The Elder
53:47
Scrolls Online plays a lot like Skyrim,
53:49
which is not exactly a selling point.
53:50
>> I think it's going to I think it's going
53:52
to take some lessons from like games
53:53
like Wildstar, which [clears throat] had
53:54
a much more action uh combat, not quite
53:57
uh you know, to what this is probably
54:00
going to be, but like there is a lot of
54:02
emphasis on mobility and moving around.
54:04
um that I think this is a next logical
54:06
evolution for for this type of game. I'm
54:09
excited to
54:09
>> Well, and also a a new MMO in 2026.
54:14
>> Yes.
54:14
>> Wow, that's a that's a bold move, guys.
54:18
>> Not as surprising as you think.
54:19
>> I'm actually expecting like a fifth wave
54:21
of MMOs to be coming out shortly, even
54:23
though we did just lose Fantastic Pixel
54:25
Castle. Um no, but Guild Wars 3, we got
54:29
that new one coming out from Riot Games.
54:31
Well, that's hasn't been pseudo
54:33
announced. Hasn't actually been formally
54:35
announced.
54:36
>> It has been it has been announced. It
54:38
hasn't been cancelceled. And in fact,
54:40
Brian Helinka was just announced to be
54:42
working on this game.
54:44
>> Um,
54:45
but that's been in development for 10
54:48
years now. And it's not it's not that
54:51
games don't deserve that much
54:52
development, but usually if a game has
54:54
been in development for a decade, it is
54:56
it's indicative that it has maybe had a
54:59
few road bumps along the way. And of
55:01
course, something as big and ambitious
55:02
as an new MMO built from the ground up,
55:06
that's that's a serious project, but
55:08
it's they've been working on it for a
55:10
while
55:11
>> and we don't know when we're going to
55:13
see it.
55:14
>> I'm also expecting this new company
55:16
called Blizzard to release this cool new
55:17
thing in November called uh [laughter]
55:20
WoW uh Classic Plus. So,
55:24
>> you know, we're up to like 39 versions
55:25
of WoW at the moment. So
55:27
>> the Wow.
55:30
It's It's very similar. And then we have
55:31
new Wow,
55:32
>> which is going to just be sweetened. So
55:35
I'm still waiting for Crystal.
55:36
>> It's only like It's only like four
55:38
versions. It's totally fine. Totally
55:40
understandable. We're only going to
55:41
bring it up to six or seven or something
55:43
like that. We'll see.
55:44
>> Seven.
55:45
>> Oh jeez. Well,
55:46
>> I'm so sorry. I can't help [laughter] I
55:48
have a kid. I can't help it. I can't
55:49
help it. Uh I I want to run through a
55:52
couple couple other quick things here
55:53
because there's a there was a lot of
55:54
other stuff and we we just don't have to
55:56
talk about
55:57
>> Yeah. Last uh last week was Summer
55:59
GameFest where we had a ton ton there
56:02
were hundreds of games. There were
56:03
dozens of showcases and hundreds of
56:05
games now. So it's
56:07
>> head spinning.
56:07
>> I do want to talk about two in
56:09
particular and we can talk we're going
56:10
to definitely talk about more of these
56:11
next week. Um, but one I did want to
56:14
call out that I think is really
56:15
interesting was Studio MDHR announced
56:18
that there are two new Cuphead games in
56:20
development. One is a handdrawn uh game
56:24
in the exact style of Cuphead and the
56:26
other one is a retro looks like 8 or
56:29
16bit Mega Man style game. Um, which is
56:33
absolutely phenomenal. And like again,
56:35
we haven't heard from MDHR in forever.
56:39
they have been essentially radio silent
56:41
since the last Cuphead deal um the
56:43
delicious last course. So like seeing
56:46
them not just have one but two games
56:48
coming out in you know one in the style
56:51
we expect and one going in a direction
56:52
that another certain company is really
56:55
reticent to actually give us more
56:56
content in. Absolutely phenomenal. Uh
56:59
and then go ahead.
57:00
>> Their announcement is also pretty
57:02
adorable too. So
57:03
>> it really is highly recommend.
57:04
>> It's Cuphead. So
57:06
>> I highly recommend you go and look it
57:07
up. It's classic TV inspired and it is
57:09
chef.
57:11
And then another one that I did want to
57:12
call out which I thought was really
57:14
interesting was uh Teenage Mut Ninja
57:16
Turtles the Last Ronin which is one of
57:19
the top 10 comics of all time at this
57:21
point I think in as far as like selling
57:23
comics uh is being developed into a game
57:26
by Platinum Games who you know the folks
57:29
behind games like Bayonetta and like
57:31
they they have a high pedigree and so
57:34
I'm super excited for that because it's
57:37
not like a comic game based on a movie
57:41
or TV show. It's based on the comic and
57:45
I'm curious how dark they're going to
57:46
get with
57:47
>> it. Is exquisitly dark that comic. It is
57:50
a return to form and then some cuz the
57:52
first comic was real dark and this just
57:55
doubled down on that.
57:56
>> Uh also should be pointed out that TMNT
57:58
the Last Ronin has basically been the
58:00
top selling graphic novel for three
58:02
years straight.
58:03
>> Yeah. I can't keep it in the store. Like
58:04
I literally we get we've gotten like the
58:07
special editions of it and they hit the
58:10
shelf, they are gone within an hour.
58:13
Like it is something just people just
58:16
pick up. It is incredibly uh which is
58:20
not surprising to me but makes my heart
58:22
very Yeah. Uh those are the ones that I
58:24
wanted to call out. Uh I don't know if
58:25
there's anything else you guys want to
58:26
touch on real quick before we we call it
58:28
there because we're sort of running out
58:29
of time. I'll say the the Nintendo
58:32
Direct stuff was uh kind of light, a lot
58:35
of remakes. So, some stuff for Pocah
58:38
Poctopia.
58:40
Um that was just my take on it. I don't
58:42
know if anybody else had anything
58:43
different. So, I was expecting more from
58:45
Nintendo. So,
58:47
>> they they announced Final Fantasy
58:48
Resonance for the Switch 2, which is
58:51
kind of a Crystal Chronicles type thing.
58:53
Uh so, yeah, they they are doing other
58:55
stuff besides remakes, but there's a lot
58:58
of remakes. And then there's Kingdom
59:00
Hearts 4, which they're announcing for
59:01
the Switch 2. Yeah, I'll I'll believe
59:04
you when you have it out. Like, these
59:06
are the guys who put out Kingdoms Heart
59:08
3 like literally 10 years and several
59:11
other games that were like not direct
59:14
sequels later from Kingdoms Hearts 2.
59:16
So, yeah. But, okay. I I think with
59:18
Square Enix like sort of I don't want to
59:21
say like it's been a return to force but
59:23
like they've recently have a lot of
59:27
momentum like Octopath Traveler 2 was
59:29
very popular and is a very fantastic
59:31
game. Uh the Final Fantasy Resonance uh
59:34
is done in the style of Octopath
59:37
Traveler. It says five art style. Not
59:39
terribly surprised there but really kind
59:41
of cool. Um you know then you have the
59:44
Kingdom Hearts which is a Squeenex
59:45
property. um in conjunction with Disney
59:49
like it is right around the right time
59:51
to release one of these too like it it
59:55
just seems like the timing is sort of
59:57
perfect and it
59:58
>> yeah recall on Eternal Sleep me I that's
1:00:01
all I'm saying you know they they have a
1:00:03
tendency to release like 13 games that
1:00:06
are like prequels or sideways sequels
1:00:09
I'm just saying when the game comes out
1:00:11
I believe it
1:00:11
>> fair enough I I will I will acquies that
1:00:14
point yeah that's all I got
1:00:15
>> I think actually that's a pretty good
1:00:16
place to stop. But although Liz just
1:00:18
took a breath, so I think maybe it's
1:00:19
[laughter] not. What's up, Liz?
1:00:21
>> I I I do want to say for the Persona
1:00:23
fans out there, uh, we had Persona 4. Is
1:00:25
it remastered?
1:00:27
>> Yes.
1:00:27
>> Re something. Yes,
1:00:29
>> they actually they also said five,
1:00:31
didn't they? They did talk about
1:00:34
six, isn't it?
1:00:35
>> Persona 4 or Persona 4 revival.
1:00:37
>> Persona 4 revival as well as Persona 6,
1:00:40
though. The Persona 6 trailer was is so
1:00:43
lightweight and teasery that we still
1:00:46
know nothing about it.
1:00:47
>> Exactly like you would expect from a
1:00:48
Persona trailer right on brand.
1:00:50
>> But it is it is going to exist. They
1:00:53
have said it is going to exist. So that
1:00:56
is a thing. There were also I mean there
1:00:58
were a bunch of bigname game
1:00:59
announcements but there were also a ton
1:01:02
of indie games. Uh, I do want to call
1:01:05
out um
1:01:06
>> I want to talk a lot. Yeah, I want to
1:01:09
talk a lot about indie games next week,
1:01:10
but please talk about Apple.
1:01:11
>> Yeah, we can talk Apple Crumble, which
1:01:13
is by Happy Broccoli Games, which you
1:01:16
may know Happy Broccley is the makers of
1:01:18
Duck Detective, which is obviously
1:01:21
obviously an A+ AAA style game, but this
1:01:25
is Apple Crumble in which uh it's your
1:01:27
grandmother's 84th birthday and no one
1:01:29
is definitely trying to murder her.
1:01:31
That's not going to happen. and you can
1:01:33
stop worrying about it and that's that's
1:01:35
the whole game. It looks great.
1:01:37
>> Oh, good. I was worried. [laughter]
1:01:39
>> Yeah, definitely. No, it's not going to
1:01:41
happen.
1:01:42
>> Definitely not going to happen. It's
1:01:44
going to be fine probably.
1:01:46
>> I love Nana.
1:01:48
[laughter]
1:01:50
>> Uh, so I I just love I I love the vibes
1:01:53
here. Uh, and there's also Penguin
1:01:56
Colony, which, you know, a nice a nice
1:01:59
pleasant game about penguins, which is
1:02:01
penguins but HP Lovecraft or HP
1:02:04
Lovecraft but penguins.
1:02:05
>> Well, let's penguins have less racism.
1:02:08
[laughter]
1:02:09
>> If I if I I'm just going to say that and
1:02:11
either you're going to be intrigued or
1:02:13
you're going to be like, "What? Why
1:02:14
would I care about penguins?" And
1:02:17
>> both is possible here. You could be both
1:02:18
intrigued and going, "Why?" Like, these
1:02:20
are these are not [laughter] mutually
1:02:22
exclusive things. I just figured you're
1:02:24
going to hear this uh pitch and you're
1:02:26
either going to be really interested or
1:02:28
you're not going to be interested at
1:02:29
all. And I always like, okay, what's the
1:02:33
what's the weirdest, strangest thing
1:02:34
that we could come up with in video
1:02:36
games? And you're usually going to see
1:02:37
it somewhere during Summer GameFest
1:02:39
because there's so much going on.
1:02:42
>> There's there's so much. Like we got the
1:02:43
like we we actually got like a trailer
1:02:45
for the uh the Nania game that's coming
1:02:47
out.
1:02:48
>> Like
1:02:49
>> that looks great.
1:02:50
>> It it's it it looks absolutely
1:02:52
fantastic. And you get to fight Jon of
1:02:53
Arc. Like this is not a spoiler. It's in
1:02:55
the trailer. You get to fight Jon of Arc
1:02:56
at one point because it takes place in
1:02:58
France. Like it is
1:03:00
>> and
1:03:00
>> it is baller.
1:03:02
>> And just the the design, the colors in
1:03:04
the game. I do the graphical design is
1:03:07
>> we need to talk about that next week cuz
1:03:09
boy do I have opinions.
1:03:11
>> Man, I I I am not a Castlevania person,
1:03:15
but just the design, the style, the
1:03:17
vibes, the the color work in that game,
1:03:20
man. Off the charts. Great.
1:03:22
>> I mean, Castlevania always has me on
1:03:23
aesthetics alone, so they always nail
1:03:25
something with it.
1:03:26
>> But this sounds interesting.
1:03:29
>> Yeah, I It's also the first time you're
1:03:31
going to be playing as a female
1:03:32
protagonist, Belmont.
1:03:35
>> Specifically, a Belmont,
1:03:37
>> but the first time you play as a female
1:03:39
in the game, though.
1:03:40
>> No,
1:03:41
>> it is not because in the N64 game, as
1:03:43
well as Casia Symphony of the Night and
1:03:46
Rondo of if I remember correctly, and
1:03:48
technically Casia 3. all that off the
1:03:50
top of your head. That's incredible.
1:03:52
>> I'm really impressed, Joe.
1:03:53
>> We We could We could really go I love
1:03:56
Castlevania. It is one of my obsessive
1:03:57
games. We are not going to start that
1:03:59
because it is one of my hyperfocuses.
1:04:01
So, [laughter] with that, friends, I
1:04:02
think we're going to call it a show
1:04:03
there. I do want to thank you for
1:04:05
joining us and we'll see you next week.
