In the final episode of our Legend in the Mist actual play, the Inkwell Club has managed to calm down the frenzied (and cursed) Spring Renewal Festival, only to see that several townsfolk are still caught in the thrall of something sinister and being led down the narrow switchback paths to the bottom of Skunk Glen Ravine. What awaits them there, other than a pile of the village’s cast-offs? Will they get to the bottom without losing their possessions, their fellow villagers, or their lives? And if it’s true that one person’s trash is another person’s treasure, does that mean Skunk Glen Ravine is full of treasure if you’re the right kind of person? Only one way to find out — down we go.
Narrator Phil Ulrich is starting to draw the curtain on this mystery; the Inkwells, as always, are played by:
* Joe Perez as Daisuke, a studious capybara-person from the local hot spring with a secret talent for water magic
* Trish Olson (AwkwardishPanda) as Meadow, a traveling diviner who sees omens and portents in the stars
* Kameron (Tetsemi) as Tom, a young and slightly-cursed runaway lad who tends to dive in head-first without thinking
* Matt Rossi as Sorena, a former bear cub polymorphed into a blacksmith’s apprentice, torn between two worlds
*Liz Harper as Selby, the somewhat overworked town alchemist (and her loyal beast of a hound dog, Ollie)
This is the finale of a three-part series of Legend in the Mist — the first episode is here, the second episode is here, and you can watch every Monday for new episodes of whatever we do next!
The music in this episode is by Phat Phrog Studios — “Mana Malt,” from the Bard’s Rest collection.

0:33
>> Hello and welcome back to Tavern Watch
0:35
Plays, our actual play uh podcast from
0:38
Blizzard Watch, where we are playing the
0:40
third in a three-part series of Legend
0:42
of Legend in the Mist. Uh, our heroes
0:45
have uh uh helped the town of Raven Holm
0:49
uh set up for their spring renewal
0:51
festival and then kind of solved an
0:53
issue with a weird cursed bonfire that
0:55
kind of made the whole party get very
0:57
dangerous and very wrong. But now,
0:59
unfortunately, people have discovered
1:00
that a dozen or so villagers seem to be
1:03
marching down the narrow ravine uh down
1:06
into Skunk Glenn. and they want to
1:10
figure out why, but they also need to
1:11
figure out uh how to get them back out
1:13
of there safely. Uh so, let's meet our
1:16
uh our hometown heroes. Uh first up, Joe
1:19
Perez.
1:20
>> Hi. Uh I'm playing Dauki, uh the water
1:24
adept cappy bear man who uh has just
1:26
discovered what too much aderall is.
1:29
[laughter]
1:31
>> Amazing. Uh next up, Liz Harper.
1:35
>> Uh hello. I am playing Selby. I'm our
1:38
local town alchemist and uh man, I'm not
1:42
I'm not doing great. I inhaled some
1:45
cursed smoke and it's it's has not been
1:48
going well. I've given myself a headache
1:50
trying to cure myself from inhaling
1:51
curse smoke. [gasps]
1:53
It's just this is not my day. This is
1:55
not my day. I've switched out my dice
1:57
for this game. So, we're going to see.
2:00
And also, I have a I have a dog
2:03
companion named Olly who is probably
2:05
larger than I am. He's a baby. I would
2:08
die for a precious bundle of fur. Yeah,
2:10
that's that's how it works.
2:12
>> Everyone will be happy to know that Olly
2:13
is fine.
2:14
>> Ollie is fine. Ollie is smarter than
2:17
>> Olly refused to inhale.
2:18
>> We have a firm rule on this podcast
2:20
[laughter] where the animal companions
2:22
will never see harm
2:24
>> and are in fact all good boys and or
2:26
girls.
2:27
>> They're perfect. Uh they they're perfect
2:29
and wonderful and good and we love them
2:31
all. Uh next up is Matt Rossi. Hello,
2:35
I'm Serena. I'm currently holding a flag
2:39
pole type and looking around at broken
2:43
furniture that kept trying to jump into
2:44
a fire and not sure what's happening and
2:47
very much in a hit it until it stops
2:49
moving phase. Also going, why are those
2:52
people going down into that place? It's
2:54
named Skunk Ridge or whatever. No, why
2:56
would you want to go there?
2:58
>> Yeah, it's down a dangerous ravine. Why
3:00
would anyone want to go to Skunk Glenn?
3:01
But yes, Serena and our next character,
3:03
uh, we're the first two to spot them
3:05
going down the ridge. Uh, our next
3:06
character played by Cameron.
3:09
>> Yes, I am playing Tom Asheville, uh, 16.
3:13
He's all ears and tales whether he likes
3:16
it or not. And, uh, is an impulse chaos
3:20
goblin, so he's going to lean into it.
3:23
>> Yep. There's always at least one. And,
3:24
uh, Tom is in on this one. Uh, and last,
3:27
but definitely not least, is Trish.
3:30
Oh, hey, that's me. I'm playing Meadow.
3:32
She is currently running back to be
3:34
like, "Hey, these people are ming."
3:38
[laughter]
3:39
>> Yep. [cough] As [clears throat] uh so
3:41
when we last, as I said, when we last
3:43
met our heroes, the uh the the bedum on
3:46
the green had been calmed uh by putting
3:49
out the fire, which seemed to be
3:50
definitively cursed based on the fact
3:52
that Dice put it out and immediately
3:54
snapped out of his delirium. Selby, so
3:56
did you, by the way. Neither of you has
3:57
the delirium status anymore.
4:00
Uh but that just if if it was if you
4:02
didn't already know it was connected
4:04
from your alchemy work where your you
4:05
know whatever reagent you threw in the
4:07
fire reacted in a way that said cursed
4:09
object. Um that definitely cleared it
4:12
up. Um and then people were looking
4:15
around and Alderman Beaks uh one of the
4:18
kind of the head of the town and also uh
4:20
Promise who was a a young woman in town
4:22
that Dauki met earlier. Um, and all in
4:25
all about and uh Auntie lost her name.
4:30
Uh, Auntie Ellsworth, an older lady who
4:33
lived on the edge of town who uh, Selby
4:35
helped her out earlier getting her
4:37
discarded item to the festival to begin
4:39
with,
4:41
were missing along with about eight or
4:42
nine other villagers. and Serena and Tom
4:45
noticed uh torch lights in the dark
4:47
going down the uh the narrow uh and
4:50
infamous path that headed down the
4:52
ravine into Skunk Glenn.
4:55
Uh and so you can you're all I'd say
4:59
you're all looking over the edge at this
5:01
point being the awake, aware, and active
5:04
members of this party uh of the of this
5:06
festival. Um you can see, as I said,
5:09
about a dozen torch lights spread out
5:10
all the way down. Some people may have
5:13
left this party a while ago without
5:14
anybody noticing. Uh some folks are
5:17
still heading down and
5:20
yeah, just uh that's that's the
5:22
situation. There is a there is a narrow
5:24
road uh that kind of switch backs down
5:26
this ravine. It's got paths. It's
5:28
overgrown in places. It's a fairly
5:30
treacherous path. And if folks are still
5:32
heading down this path, that puts them
5:34
in danger. In fact, as you watch, one of
5:37
the torches far below falls down into
5:39
the bottom of Skunk Glenn. No. Oh no.
5:42
>> Oh no. Not somebody attached to the
5:44
torch. Just the torch, right?
5:46
>> Hopefully just the torch as far as you
5:47
can tell from here.
5:48
>> Um but so
5:52
who who wants to take the lead on this?
5:55
We're going to play through. We'll kind
5:56
of we'll kind of play this as a little
5:58
montage here.
5:59
>> I think Tom's already on his way down.
6:00
As soon as that was pointed out to him,
6:02
>> Tom saw a thing fall and he was gone.
6:04
>> Exactly [laughter] 100%.
6:07
Then I I make a noise and I just start
6:10
jumping to every place where a bear
6:13
would hop to. I'm basically [laughter]
6:14
staring down there like a bear. I'm like
6:16
I am This place has gotten crazy.
6:19
Everything is messed up. I am responding
6:21
by instincts now.
6:23
>> Yeah.
6:23
>> All right. So,
6:24
>> I think Tom's going to lean into the
6:26
nose every back alley uh part of this
6:28
with his quick on the feet and quick
6:30
reflexes. And he also has night vision,
6:32
so he doesn't really need a torch. So,
6:36
he's just gonna kind of lean into that
6:37
and go after this.
6:39
>> Oh, that's perfect. Okay. So, Tom, we're
6:41
gonna have we're gonna go with you first
6:42
as you're heading down. Um,
6:46
not far ahead of you, uh, you're
6:48
probably the first one to reach the spot
6:50
where you saw the torch fall off the
6:52
side.
6:52
>> Oh, yeah. I'm going to go for this.
6:54
>> And you hear someone you hear kind of a
6:56
a groan and someone going, "Help, help
6:59
me." And with your night vision, you can
7:01
see that there are a pair of hands uh
7:04
hanging onto the edge of the path. What
7:06
do you do, Tom?
7:08
>> Uh Tom is going to lower his staff down
7:12
and see if he can get the person to grab
7:14
onto the staff and pull them back up.
7:17
>> Okay. Uh let's go ahead and do a roll
7:19
then. So,
7:21
>> what tags seem relevant to you?
7:24
>> Uh well, I think we use the night vision
7:27
and the quick reflexes. Um,
7:32
>> I Yeah, I think he's going to lean into
7:34
the into the axe before thinking cuz
7:36
he's he's not thinking like did did I
7:39
brace myself when this person's weight
7:41
gets onto the staff and tries to pull
7:44
him over the edge? Like what's he going
7:46
to do? Um,
7:48
and then also I think we'll use the
7:51
skilled with the staff because at least
7:53
he's, you know, he has some training
7:55
with the staff to be able to
7:59
uh know what what happens when the
8:01
weight's applied to it, but he's not
8:03
thinking that far ahead. So, I think
8:04
like two.
8:06
>> Okay.
8:07
>> Yeah.
8:08
>> Can I help or would I not have run down
8:10
that quickly?
8:11
>> If you can describe a way that you're
8:13
helping, then you can try and help. Um,
8:16
well, I was wondering if Olly was, you
8:19
know, I told Olly to be on the scent,
8:21
and when when he's running down there
8:24
and I'm following him, uh, Olly,
8:27
uh, grabs like the stick and helps pull
8:30
with the strong and large trait.
8:34
>> Okay. Yeah, I like I like
8:35
>> grab Tom's pants like by the [laughter]
8:38
>> That's kind of what I was picturing.
8:39
>> Works.
8:40
>> That is actually what I was picturing.
8:41
It's like like copper toning the cat
8:44
with the dog.
8:45
>> We're [laughter]
8:45
copper toning the catboy.
8:47
>> Uhhuh.
8:48
>> Uh, okay. So, that sounds like three
8:50
positive tags. Is that correct? And
8:53
>> you're old enough to understand that
8:54
reference. Go take a Tylenol. [laughter]
8:57
>> Yeah. If you're old enough to get that
8:58
reference, it's time to schedule your
8:59
colonoscopy.
9:01
>> Uh, here we go.
9:03
>> All right. Here we go.
9:06
>> Uh, so you said that'd be Let's see. So
9:09
we had one, two,
9:10
>> I heard I heard three positive tags and
9:12
one negative one.
9:13
>> Okay. So plus two. So that is an eight.
9:18
>> All right.
9:19
So I think uh
9:23
yeah. So you you grab you grab this
9:26
person uh and Ali grabs you. They grab
9:30
the staff and they are you're pulling
9:34
them up.
9:36
Um,
9:37
and you pull up the you pull up you pull
9:39
up a lady uh from the village. Her uh
9:42
Lori to her friends, full name is
9:43
Laurent Tadira. She is a recent uh
9:46
arrival to the village. Maybe only
9:48
arrived a year before you, Tom. Um there
9:51
have been some kind of whispers that she
9:52
was running away from something, but as
9:54
you pull her up, you realize that she is
9:56
not running away from anything now. Um
9:59
she sits down on the path in front of
10:00
you, and the reason she dropped her
10:02
torch is because she twisted her ankle
10:04
uh going around the edge. The problem is
10:06
that also means her ability to make it
10:09
up uh the ravine [clears throat] or to
10:13
make it up onto the path was uh a little
10:15
compromised and she kind of throws you
10:17
off balance. Um Tom, scratch the walking
10:20
staff off of your backpack as it falls
10:23
into skunk clan.
10:24
>> Oh no. [laughter]
10:27
Uh, this also means that you will be
10:29
unable to use your staff fighter theme
10:30
or any of its tags until you either find
10:33
your staff or get something staff-like
10:35
later. Okay.
10:38
All righty. Uh, Ali, of course, is fine
10:41
because Ali is a good boy. Um, Ali is
10:43
kind of licking uh Laura's uh face and I
10:46
think that's kind of snapping her out of
10:48
uh the delirium that she would have
10:50
still been under because uh
10:54
that is something that may strike people
10:55
as odd is despite the fact that everyone
10:56
up top seems to have recovered,
10:58
including you all, the people who are
10:59
heading down to Skunk Glenn are still
11:00
going. Nobody seems to be like pausing
11:03
and going, "Huh? Why am I walking to the
11:05
bottom of a ravine?"
11:06
>> I don't know. Serena,
11:08
>> Olly, is Olly big enough to help this
11:12
person back up?
11:14
>> I think so. Olly has been described as a
11:16
fairly big dog.
11:17
>> Yes. Um I also have some bandages I
11:20
could wrap her ankle.
11:22
>> Okay. Uh yeah, that's fine. Um I think
11:26
when she makes her way back up to where
11:27
you're at, um you can you can help her
11:29
bandage her ankle. It doesn't look like
11:31
it's going to be a permanent injury or
11:32
anything. She just turned it on a loose
11:33
stone.
11:34
>> Yeah. Uh but the next up is uh going
11:38
past uh Tom who's helping this person up
11:40
is Serena. Serena, ahead of you. Uh the
11:44
path splits in half once one path uh is
11:48
a very very steep path heading straight
11:50
downward. Um it it kind of the thing
11:53
where like if you if you go down that
11:54
path, you're actually going to be kind
11:55
of running down that branch just because
11:57
it's a very it's a very steep incline.
12:00
The other one is a more gentle incline
12:01
but goes directly into some thick
12:03
undergrowth. However, um it looks like
12:05
there's somebody in the bushes and
12:07
they're not moving. What do you do?
12:13
>> Um they look like they're not moving.
12:15
Are they standing or kneeling or what?
12:18
>> Uh in they're as far as you can tell
12:20
lying down inside these bushes.
12:24
>> Okay. Um,
12:30
could use wanderlust for this because it
12:31
has finds the trail, but I think I'm
12:34
going to use blood of the mountain bear
12:35
and sniff to see if I sniff blood or
12:39
anything that would indicate that the
12:40
person was be had been attacked by
12:42
something.
12:43
>> Okay. Um,
12:46
you don't smell anything and part of
12:49
that is because uh you are above skunk
12:52
Clinton. You mostly smell
12:55
Well, Scotland got its name for a
12:57
reason. [laughter]
12:58
>> Yeah.
12:59
>> But you but you specifically don't smell
13:01
blood or anything like that.
13:03
>> All right. I'm going to move forward to
13:05
where the unconscious person is or if
13:08
they are unconscious
13:10
>> and see if I can determine who they are.
13:12
>> Yeah. So, let's uh get some kind of role
13:14
to kind of push your way through the
13:15
underbrush here. Um
13:17
>> okay. Um like I said, I have wander
13:18
lust, so I have finds the trail and at
13:21
home in wild places. Okay, so that's
13:23
two. Um, you can use your bare strength,
13:26
too, if you want for three.
13:28
>> All right.
13:28
>> Um, and then you're going to have a
13:30
negative one against it because it is
13:31
thick undergrowth, which is itself a
13:33
tag. So, two plus two to your roll.
13:39
>> Okay.
13:41
Four and three and two. Uh, so 7 8 nine.
13:45
>> Nine. Okay. Um, so
13:48
two things happen. One, you're going to
13:50
take a status. You're going to gain
13:52
scratched one as you kind of have to
13:54
push through some stinging stinging
13:56
nettles in this undergrowth.
13:58
Uh I guess they would also maybe some of
14:00
them are like clinging to some of the
14:01
the thicker uh it's not fur. You're not
14:04
a bear. Some of the hair perfectly
14:05
normal hair uh on the body.
14:08
>> Um but you get closer and you realize um
14:11
luckily that this isn't a person.
14:14
>> [laughter]
14:15
>> These are some discarded clothes from
14:16
last winter that didn't quite make it
14:19
all the way down into the ravine when it
14:20
was dumped over. Um, so luckily no one
14:23
no one is here hurt. Um,
14:26
>> but I did scratch myself up enough.
14:27
>> You did scratch yourself, unfortunately.
14:29
But you can continue to take the more
14:31
gentle path down. Uh, so you don't have
14:33
to like risk going down this steeper
14:34
slope and colliding with anyone further
14:36
down. So
14:37
>> this does really feel like the town
14:39
dump. We're just We've just been
14:41
throwing things down here for years.
14:45
>> Um, yeah. So, Selby, Meadow, or uh,
14:49
Dauuki, who's coming down next.
14:52
>> Well, I probably just kind of saw
14:54
everybody start wandering off and like
14:57
am just getting there like, "Hey, what's
14:59
going on?"
15:01
>> Uh, so you you find they said you I
15:04
think you're heading down. you find Tom
15:05
helping uh well I guess you would
15:07
actually pass Ali helping Laura Lori
15:09
back up first. Tom and Serena are
15:12
heading down ahead of you.
15:15
>> Okay. So like get information about
15:16
everything [snorts] like going on and
15:18
then I would start looking for
15:20
>> the easiest way for everybody that's up
15:23
top to get down there if we're going
15:25
after everybody.
15:27
>> Uh it's it's pretty much down this path.
15:30
Um, however, as you start to catch up
15:32
with a uh with a villager, the uh so the
15:36
path ahead of you uh goes like
15:38
underneath kind of a big overhanging
15:40
stone.
15:42
Um, and there's a villager crossing
15:44
underneath it with a torch. Um, and what
15:47
you notice thanks to their torch light
15:48
is that the stone up above them is
15:51
cracking. And as the villager is walking
15:53
under it, it is kind of putting stress
15:55
on the whole thing.
15:56
>> They in their delirium do not notice the
15:58
danger. Uh, what would you like to do?
16:01
>> Um,
16:05
are they like within like reach where I
16:07
can grab them and pull them out of the
16:09
way?
16:10
>> They could be with just a short sprint.
16:11
Yeah,
16:12
>> I'm doing that.
16:14
>> Okay. Uh, so let's go ahead and get a
16:16
roll cuz remember also these people are
16:18
delirious. So you're probably going to
16:19
have to literally jerk this person out
16:21
of the way. [laughter]
16:22
Uh, so let's do a roll with some tags
16:25
here. Um,
16:26
>> okay. So, what seems relevant on your
16:29
character sheet?
16:30
>> Um,
16:35
>> help everybody is like the one.
16:39
>> So, help everyone jumps out to me.
16:40
Sturdy sturdy jumps.
16:42
>> Yeah.
16:42
>> Also, if you wanted to be really funny,
16:44
you can talk me into friends along the
16:46
path.
16:48
>> We're [laughter] on a path and I make a
16:50
path where I go on a friend. You're
16:51
trying to help them. Yeah.
16:52
>> I like the nose.
16:54
>> Yeah. Uh, yeah. I think this works. I
16:57
think it's gonna only have one one tag
17:00
against it, which is that the path is
17:01
very narrow.
17:03
>> So, two roll 2d6 plus two, right?
17:07
>> Mhm.
17:09
>> Uh
17:11
six. That's a three. So, nine plus two
17:14
for 11.
17:16
>> Perfect. Yeah. So, you catch up to this
17:18
villager with a with a little sprint. Uh
17:21
you know, meadow not really built for
17:23
sprinting, but she does it anyway. Uh,
17:25
and you grab this person's hand and you
17:27
yank this this younger woman back. It
17:29
it's uh if it's uh Promise, the one that
17:33
was missing for the village up above.
17:34
Um, you pull her back uh just in time
17:38
for part of this slab to kind of go like
17:41
[clears throat] onto the path and then
17:42
continue falling down in smaller pieces
17:44
down into the ravine. Um, and she just
17:47
kind of looks at the rock and looks at
17:49
you and looks at the rock and looks at
17:50
you and goes, "What am I doing down
17:52
here?" [laughter]
17:53
>> I don't know. What are you doing down
17:55
here?
17:56
>> I I don't know. Something just something
17:58
was telling me something was telling me
18:00
to join the party.
18:02
>> You were at the party and then you came
18:04
down here. What was telling you to join?
18:07
>> Up and looking down. She says, I I Oh, I
18:09
don't know. It was something in my head.
18:11
It said that the the party was
18:15
the the real party was down there. I
18:16
don't I don't know. The real celebration
18:18
was below. It's I don't know. I don't
18:21
know.
18:21
>> Do you know where?
18:23
and she just points down uh towards as
18:27
as Selby put it the town dump.
18:29
[laughter]
18:31
>> Maybe you go back up to the village,
18:35
please.
18:36
>> Yeah. And she says, "Yeah, I'm going to
18:37
go back up. My my my mom's going to be
18:40
worried sick. Thank you so much." And
18:42
she gives you a great big hug.
18:44
>> I hug her back and I'm just like,
18:45
"Okay."
18:46
>> She's so happy.
18:47
>> Lying on your mama so much. You have a
18:48
husband, sweetheart. [laughter]
18:51
>> And she laughs. heads back up.
18:54
>> Did Dauki or I feel any kind of like
18:57
calling to go somewhere when we were
18:59
under the influence of this cursed
19:01
smoke?
19:03
>> Maybe a little bit like in the back of
19:05
your head, but since the two of you were
19:06
still close to the fire,
19:08
>> you can probably kind of piece together
19:09
that the people who got called were
19:11
people who were close to the fire and
19:12
then kind of moved away from it.
19:15
>> So, [clears throat] also, if you felt it
19:16
strongly, it may have been um when
19:19
Serena was carrying you around like a
19:20
sack of potatoes.
19:24
Uh, Selby or Tauuki? Who's headed down
19:27
next?
19:29
>> I mean, I think I'm taking off as soon
19:30
as I realize that there were villagers
19:32
me.
19:33
>> I think Sel's kind of in the rear
19:35
because Ali was helping uh Lori back up.
19:39
>> All right. Uh, Subly Dauki, you guys are
19:42
kind of at the back of the crowd at this
19:43
point. Um, but you're still making good
19:45
progress. um as you're passing by one
19:49
part there's one part you're so you're
19:51
fairly low on the path at this point um
19:54
like very close to catching up with the
19:56
procession. Um, you notice, however,
19:58
both of you notice, one of you is
19:59
trained in alchemy and unusual things,
20:01
and the other one's literally a
20:02
magician. Uh, even if he's keeping it
20:04
subtle, that on the stone by the path,
20:08
like on the on the flat stone wall by
20:10
the path is some kind of unusual symbol
20:13
carved by I don't know, it doesn't look
20:16
like a knife or a chisel. It almost
20:18
looks like some kind of nasty claw
20:19
somehow carved this into the wall. Um,
20:22
and there's lychen growing around it,
20:24
but it doesn't cover it. Gives you both
20:27
kind of the heebie-jebies as you stop to
20:29
look at it. Um, what would you like to
20:30
do?
20:32
>> Uh, I think I start grabbing books out
20:34
of my backpack and see if I've ever
20:36
[laughter] like, no, seriously, like if
20:38
I've ever seen anything or or read
20:40
anything about something like this
20:41
before.
20:43
>> So, I'd like to use my my devoted and
20:45
studious.
20:48
I could go in here with all in my
20:49
notebook and see if I have any any notes
20:52
in my little notebook that I'm always
20:54
always carrying around about runes or
20:56
things of that nature.
20:58
>> Okay, that's fine. You can uh you can
20:59
contribute that one. Since you're not
21:00
making the role, your headache won't be
21:02
a negative impact here.
21:04
>> Ah,
21:05
>> so that'll be three uh plus three. Uh
21:08
Dauki, I don't think you have any
21:10
negative tags that really apply here.
21:11
It's a 12. Perfect.
21:13
>> That's a that's a [clears throat] plus
21:14
three.
21:14
>> You find something a ways back. This is
21:17
a glyph of repelling.
21:20
Uh what this would be is that if someone
21:23
was heading past the glyph and they did
21:26
not um and say whoever set the glyph did
21:29
not want them to come that way, um it
21:32
would say curse you or uh produce some
21:36
kind of uh there's usually usually some
21:39
kind of loud voice or visual effect or
21:41
something to kind of try and scare
21:43
people away. The gist of it is it's a
21:44
it's a magical keep out sign. Um, you
21:48
also know Dauki from looking at your
21:49
book that all it takes is one scratch
21:51
across it in a different direction to
21:53
make it a glyph of welcoming.
21:56
>> Is that what happened here?
21:57
>> Uh, it will be if you want to make it
22:00
right now. It's still an active glyph of
22:01
repelling. The two of you just stopped
22:03
short of setting it off.
22:04
>> Then I'm going to absolutely take one of
22:06
my Cappy claws and we are going to
22:07
modify this rune.
22:09
>> Yep. Uh, so you scratch it and as you do
22:12
you hear an unnatural voice in your
22:14
head.
22:15
>> Snoopy little man, you can still be a
22:17
guest of mine. [clears throat]
22:21
>> It's creepy,
22:22
>> but it doesn't magically scare you
22:24
internally. It's in your head.
22:25
>> Okay.
22:26
>> Okay. Yeah. Selby still standing there
22:29
flipping through her notebook. H
22:31
[laughter]
22:31
>> I let Selby know what just happened
22:35
because I go uh um Yeah. [clears throat]
22:38
So, there was a voice uh and it was very
22:40
creepy and it was in my head and I fixed
22:42
the room.
22:43
>> Um I I don't like that at all. Okay.
22:46
>> How do you think I feel? How do you
22:48
think I feel? [laughter]
22:49
>> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Uh neither of us like
22:52
it. That's That's great. This is fine.
22:55
This is This is going to be fine. We're
22:57
going to figure this out. You've got all
22:58
your books. I've got my notebook. Uh
23:01
Ollie's here. We
23:02
>> I'm going to find this person and I'm
23:03
going to give them wet socks for the
23:04
rest of their life. Let's go.
23:06
>> [laughter]
23:07
>> So, the ink wells all hurry to the
23:09
bottom of the group along with the
23:10
remainder of the procession. [gasps] Uh,
23:13
as expected, as you've seen, as you've
23:16
spelled, uh, at the bottom of the cliff
23:19
lies a giant pile of years old discarded
23:23
items. Uh, Skunk Glenn is full of like
23:26
weird narrow crevices, and the junk here
23:29
is collected in super tight spaces
23:31
between walls of rock. It's rotten. It's
23:34
overgrown. Um, it's it's the town dump.
23:37
Selby had it correct. Um, and as you
23:40
make your last few steps down, you are
23:43
greeted with an odd sight. So, there
23:44
were several villagers still ahead of
23:46
you and they're climbing over the heap.
23:49
And as you watch them, they're kind of,
23:51
you know, they're they're moving around
23:52
the heap. You're like, "What are what
23:53
are these people doing?" and they are
23:55
like looking down into past years and
23:57
you'll see them like pick something up
23:59
with the same like judgy eye that you
24:01
might look if you were going to a
24:02
butcher like trying to pick out the most
24:04
prime cut of meat. They are trying to
24:06
find the most prime junk.
24:10
And as you watch you spot the previously
24:13
missing Alderman Beaks and you recognize
24:15
that glassy look in his eyes that all
24:17
the villagers up top who were under the
24:18
delirium had. Alderman Beaks picks up
24:22
the remains of this wooden doll and he
24:25
looks at it and he gets this big smile
24:26
across his face and he says, "It's
24:29
perfect." And he holds it to his chest
24:30
and he hugs it and then he does a little
24:34
jump into the air and the pile of junk
24:38
opens like a m and swallows him and he
24:42
vanishes from sight and then it just
24:45
snaps shut behind him.
24:47
I do not like this. I do not like this
24:50
at all. [gasps and laughter]
24:52
>> As you as As you are all approaching the
24:56
B as you all are and also as the five of
24:59
you got closer to the pile of refues at
25:01
the bottom of Skunkland,
25:04
you feel a tug, like a compulsion. You
25:07
couldn't really put words to it. Well,
25:09
maybe uh maybe Nauki could because he
25:11
heard them in his head. Um, but you feel
25:15
you feel two things you'd say. One is
25:19
that something is underneath the pile of
25:22
junk at the bottom of skunk. And the
25:25
other thing the other feeling you feel
25:26
like you don't know how you know this,
25:28
but you know this in your heart of
25:29
hearts is that it's waiting for a gift.
25:34
What would you all like to do?
25:37
>> I'm singing Fraggle Rock.
25:39
>> Yeah. [laughter] The first thing that
25:41
came to Tom's mind is do they still have
25:44
the torches while they're looking for
25:46
stuff?
25:47
>> Yes. They're like holding the torches in
25:49
one hand and picking through the refues
25:50
with the other.
25:51
>> And that pile that ate backs, how
25:54
flammable does it look?
25:56
>> Oh, [gasps]
25:58
I mean parts of it might be, but also a
26:00
lot of the stuff down here is moist or
26:04
moldy or old.
26:06
>> Ah, okay. So, we may not want to burn it
26:09
considering what happened the last time
26:10
stuff was getting burned.
26:11
>> Yeah. Don't Don't make me with a water
26:13
bottle. [laughter]
26:15
>> Big cat. You know, that was his first
26:20
always like fire.
26:22
>> Yeah, exactly. Grab the torch. Set
26:24
things on fire. Um,
26:28
>> what do I do? I was looking to see this
26:31
wasn't any really big rocks in a
26:32
precarious place anywhere around here.
26:34
Are they? Uh, I mean, there's pieces of
26:36
a rock that was in a precarious place up
26:38
there.
26:40
>> I I think Tom would just rush forward to
26:43
the V. His thought is save the villager
26:45
right now. So, he's going to just rush
26:48
forward to one of the villagers and just
26:50
try and like shake them, snap them out
26:52
of it.
26:53
>> Okay. Uh, so go ahead and make some kind
26:55
of roll because as you try uh breaking
26:57
them out of it, they're just got to find
26:59
a gift. Got to find a gift. Find a gift.
27:01
Find a gift.
27:03
Uh, so let's go ahead.
27:05
>> Oh, sorry. Go ahead. Let's
27:07
>> Yeah.
27:08
>> Could I maybe through my alchemical
27:10
knowledge have like some smelling salts
27:13
or something on me or a pouch? Like I
27:16
think I always have like a pouch of
27:18
herbs and things with me. Something to
27:20
like that would maybe traditionally help
27:23
bring people around. I don't know if
27:25
that would work on this curse.
27:28
>> Okay. So what we'll do exist
27:30
>> so this is yeah I was going to say so
27:31
this is the other way that help tags can
27:33
work is that you can try to create a tag
27:36
that will then exist for Ted semi to use
27:37
to get a plus or for Cameron to use for
27:39
a plus one when he rolls. So let's have
27:41
you try to whip up the alchemical thing
27:43
and then if you succeed we'll have Tom
27:45
roll with a plus one. So
27:47
>> okay.
27:47
>> Okay.
27:49
>> So what do you think is relevant for uh
27:52
so village apothecary seems obvious
27:54
here.
27:55
>> Mhm. Uh like the three that jump out of
27:57
me are village apothecary, healing sav,
27:59
and inventive.
28:01
>> Yeah.
28:01
>> But then also
28:02
>> but maybe back delicate delicate
28:04
materials being a minus there because
28:06
that's that's the problem with alchemy.
28:08
So that's a plus two.
28:10
>> Yep. In this case, you're kind of
28:11
working with what you got down here,
28:12
which is a lot of mosses and discarded
28:14
stuff.
28:15
>> So that is an 11. The new dice I pulled
28:18
out are working.
28:19
>> Nice.
28:20
>> Okay. So So that works. So Cameron,
28:22
you're going to roll and you're going to
28:23
have the uh the temporary tag for this
28:25
role uh smelling salts.
28:28
>> Okay.
28:28
>> Along with along with whatever is
28:29
relevant on your sheet. Uh, so I was
28:33
going to lean into the uh barter and beg
28:38
since they've probably seen Tom up in
28:41
the uh up in the village and say, "Well,
28:44
if if you're looking for a gift, there's
28:47
there's there's this great um thing I
28:49
left up by on the on the picnic tables
28:52
with with the food that would make the
28:54
perfect gift." and he's just going to
28:56
try and describe this, you know, like
28:58
really [laughter] perfect gift for this
29:01
junk pile monster that he can come up
29:04
with. So, I think the only thing that
29:06
applies for from him Wait a minute. Uh,
29:10
hang on. I was just looking at our
29:12
fellowship tags. Um,
29:17
>> I was going to say that if there if you
29:18
think there's a relevant fellowship tag,
29:20
uh, this this be a good time to use it.
29:22
>> It Well, we it's so We've got We've read
29:25
about this somewhere and we know every
29:28
local story and legend. Could we lean
29:30
into either of those?
29:38
>> Interesting. Because like because the
29:40
answer is yes, but I don't know how you
29:42
would know to do so. I'm gonna say yes.
29:45
I'm going to say yes. And you don't know
29:46
why it applies yet.
29:48
>> Okay.
29:49
Just just remember to scratch off le
29:51
every local you know we know every local
29:53
story in legend because once it's used
29:55
for this it can't be used again.
29:57
>> Okay. All right.
29:58
>> For this for this for this adventure. So
30:00
>> right. So a plus two to my role then
30:02
plus two from Liz.
30:05
>> Uh so one from Liz's um
30:08
>> okay
30:09
>> smelling salts, one from your barter and
30:11
bag and one from your um fellowship for
30:14
plus three.
30:15
>> Okay.
30:16
>> Oh nice. All right. That is 6 and three
30:20
+ 3 is 12.
30:23
>> Perfect. Yeah. So, I think you're I
30:26
think the smelling salts especially are
30:27
a big advantage uh of this and I think
30:29
that helps you actually snap multiple
30:31
villagers out of it. Um specifically,
30:34
you find auntie Ellsworth, who should
30:35
not be down here to begin with, uh
30:37
little lady. Um and you you kind of help
30:41
uh break the several of these you you
30:44
break three or four of the villagers out
30:45
of Delirious.
30:46
>> Okay, great.
30:48
Yeah. And like they stop mumbling about
30:52
needing to bring a gift and they just
30:53
look bewildered and scared uh as you
30:56
explain to them what's happened and why
30:57
they're down here.
30:59
>> Okay. And I will make sure they see the
31:01
path and and like I can start to lead
31:03
them up the path to get them out of
31:06
here.
31:07
>> That works. Yeah. So, as you're sending
31:09
as you're ushering these three or four
31:10
villagers back up the path, uh another
31:12
one, not one that you all know well, um
31:15
a uh kind of like Meadow, a trader who
31:18
wasn't not one of her people, but
31:19
another traitor who was kind of in the
31:20
village temporarily leans down and picks
31:22
up uh an old shirt and evaluates it very
31:25
carefully and says, "This will do." And
31:28
again, just like Beaks, does a little
31:30
leap into the air and the refuge pile
31:32
opens and swallows her and snaps shut
31:35
behind her.
31:38
Can I use my quick reflexes to try and
31:41
grab her or
31:45
uh if you want to try to do that, we
31:47
can. Yeah, I like that.
31:49
>> Yeah, cuz he acts without thinking. So
31:52
if he sees someone jumping into the air
31:54
and he saw what happened to him last
31:55
time, he's just going to try and try and
31:58
grab them. Uh, so it's just the quick
32:02
reflexes canceled out by the axe before
32:05
thinking.
32:06
>> Axe without thinking.
32:06
>> Should be a straight roll.
32:08
>> Uh, yeah. I'm trying to see if there's
32:09
anything else here that applies.
32:11
Positive or negative? I don't think so.
32:16
>> Okay. Uh, I rolled a six and a three for
32:20
a plain nine.
32:22
>> For a total of nine. Okay. So, what
32:24
happens? everyone else. Everyone else
32:26
sees this happen and we'll figure out
32:29
what happens to you in a second.
32:30
>> Yeah.
32:31
>> Uh, one is you you grab this person and
32:34
you pull them back. I think you grab
32:35
them by the shirt. Uh, the shirt they
32:38
were carrying to be fair, not the one
32:39
they're wearing. Like you grab [snorts]
32:40
the shirt that they had in their hands.
32:41
You kind of pull them back. And what
32:44
happens is you yank them away and they
32:46
go stumbling away from the mall.
32:47
Everyone else, the mall in the trash
32:49
opens up and Tom falls through and snaps
32:54
shut behind him. Tom is gone.
32:55
>> All right.
32:56
>> Oh. Oh.
32:58
>> Oh, no.
33:00
>> I am very alarmed by this.
33:01
>> So, uh, what would, uh, Tom, we'll get
33:04
to you in a sec. You're fine. Uh,
33:05
>> that's fine. [laughter]
33:06
>> ish. Um, what would the rest of you What
33:08
would the rest of you like to do?
33:10
>> I know exactly what doing.
33:12
>> I was going to say, I think I know what
33:14
Matt's going to do. Um, the rest of the
33:16
people snapped out of that. You said
33:18
just
33:19
>> So, there were about a dozen villagers
33:21
down here. um Beaks and uh let's say two
33:25
people have uh been swallowed by the
33:27
pile. Um and Tom Tom saved one but then
33:31
got swallowed himself. So three people
33:32
have disappeared and like several others
33:35
have been ushered back up the path by
33:37
getting snapped out of it by the
33:38
smelling salts and Tom running around to
33:40
them. There's maybe one or two more
33:41
people down here picking around.
33:44
>> I am running to where I last saw Tom.
33:48
Okay,
33:49
>> I think we need to smack these other
33:51
two. And this is just me talking above
33:53
table with everybody. I think we need to
33:56
smack the other two people awake or get
33:58
them free from whatever this is and send
34:00
them back up the cliff. Um, and then I
34:03
have a feeling we're all grabbing
34:04
garbage and going down the hole.
34:06
>> Yeah, I mean I agree with you, but uh
34:08
Sel is only concerned about Tom right
34:10
now.
34:12
I'm going to take the fish the uh things
34:14
I was going to possibly destroy the the
34:17
claws.
34:19
>> Okay. You're Oh, right. The ones you the
34:21
ones you hadn't yet thrown onto the uh
34:23
pile.
34:23
>> Yeah.
34:24
>> Okay.
34:25
>> For a moment and then I go do that jump
34:27
in the air thing.
34:28
>> Okay. Uh you you bring you bring your
34:31
gift. Uh you do a little jump in the
34:32
air. The mall opens up and
34:35
>> I am going to attempt to stop it from
34:37
closing on me with raw power.
34:40
Okay.
34:42
>> Uh, perfect. Uh, let's give it let's
34:46
give it a try. Uh, so
34:49
um, in this case, there is going to be
34:50
one negative tag from the scene. Uh,
34:53
which is the discarded items. Uh, what
34:55
you're what you're trying to hold is
34:57
kind of like trying to hold back a pile
34:59
of assorted garbage. So, trying to get a
35:01
handhold on is going to be kind of
35:03
tough. So, that'll be one negative tag
35:05
from the scene.
35:06
>> Okay. I'm using Blood of the Mountain
35:08
Bear.
35:10
>> So, Heartest Stone and Strength of the
35:12
Charging Bear because I think they both
35:13
apply for this.
35:14
>> Okay.
35:15
>> I'm also using
35:18
>> um this is one that I think is kind of
35:22
pushing it, but I'm going to use creates
35:25
through destruction from blacksmithing
35:28
hammer cuz I want to destroy this thing.
35:30
So, we have a path down.
35:32
>> Okay.
35:34
>> So, that's those are the three I think
35:35
apply. You can tell me one doesn't.
35:37
That's cool.
35:38
>> No, I like those. However, I'm also
35:40
going to stretch one of yours. I'm going
35:41
to apply the negative tag hungers for
35:43
new trails
35:45
>> because you super want to know what the
35:47
heck is down there now. [laughter]
35:49
>> That's fair. So,
35:51
>> total plus one.
35:53
>> Okay.
36:05
four and four for eight plus one is
36:07
nine.
36:08
>> Okay. Uh so
36:11
yeah, so what ultim
36:16
um your scratched one tag, go ahead and
36:17
upgrade that to scratched two
36:20
>> as various loose wooden or metal items
36:22
that have been discarded in the past
36:23
kind of bite into the wounds from the
36:25
nettles. Yeah.
36:26
Um, however, people who are up above,
36:29
uh, you see Serena start to jump into
36:31
the pit and then she's holding it open
36:33
enough that you can see, uh, down into
36:36
the refuge pile. And it's essentially
36:40
like a shoot of garbage going down to,
36:43
as you can see at the one of you
36:45
probably has a torch at this point, or
36:46
there's a villager nearby with a torch,
36:48
or maybe the moon is bright enough to
36:49
see that. at the bottom underneath all
36:52
the garbage. At the bottom of this
36:53
garbage shoot essentially is a cave, an
36:56
entrance to a cave underneath the trash
37:00
pile of skunk glimp. Um, and you can see
37:03
this for just a second. Um, as Serena
37:07
holds it open and then the consequence
37:09
is that Serena, the m then overcomes you
37:12
and you too as it snaps shut behind you.
37:14
Uh, perhaps a little more effort. You
37:16
almost sense the refuge pile is grumpy
37:18
uh at you holding it open. Pulls you
37:20
down into the cave below.
37:23
Uh Dauki, uh Meadow and Selby, you are
37:27
now on top of the trash pile. Uh and
37:29
your friends have jumped into it or been
37:31
pulled into it. What would you like to
37:32
do?
37:33
>> Uh we don't got time to wait, so I'm
37:36
going to grab a piece of garbage and I'm
37:38
jumping.
37:39
>> All right. You pick up a thing to serve
37:41
as a gift. uh you gain a temporary tag
37:44
to serve and to represent the gift. So
37:47
uh decide decide what kind of garbage
37:49
you pick up and then jump into the pit
37:51
if you are bringing a gift. It willingly
37:53
accepts you.
37:54
>> Uh I think it's like an old shoe or
37:56
something. I don't think it's anything
37:57
fancy.
37:58
>> All right. Uh yeah. So write old shoe in
38:01
your backpack
38:03
and Dauki uh is swallowed by the heap of
38:06
refues.
38:08
>> I I will follow his lead. I will pick up
38:11
some like a broken
38:15
like a broken piece of china.
38:18
>> Okay. Yeah, I think you found like a
38:19
maybe I I think for you specifically
38:21
it's going to be you find one of Auntie
38:23
Ellsworth's flower pots. You find like a
38:25
decent a decent sized chunk of broken
38:27
flower pot. Um yeah, and uh in you go.
38:33
>> Meadow Meadow, your friends have all
38:35
jumped into a pile of trash. I'm
38:36
[laughter]
38:37
going to just be like, you know, I can
38:40
record this for later and I'm going to
38:42
look around [laughter] and pick up like
38:43
a brightly colored piece of wood or
38:45
something that would have come off like
38:46
one of the caravans from past years when
38:49
we've had to like do repairs and we know
38:51
this is a thing they do. So, we
38:52
participate cuz we're always here and
38:54
I'm just going to grab one and go.
38:55
>> Oh, that's good. Yeah. You probably
38:56
found like a brightly painted piece of
38:58
wood that you would recognize as bearing
38:59
like a pattern from your people. Um like
39:01
some of the patterns they use when
39:02
they're painting the outside of the the
39:04
wagons. Yeah, that's perfect. Yeah. You
39:06
find your piece of wood. Uh you jump and
39:09
the mall opens and accepts you and all
39:12
of you slide down these individual trash
39:15
shoots into
39:17
um well something unusual. What you find
39:21
underneath the [snorts] heap of
39:23
discarded items
39:25
um is something
39:28
unusual. In fact, you find
39:32
a second festival underneath the
39:35
underneath the heap in this enormous
39:37
cave underneath. Uh there are something
39:41
has used piles of discarded items to
39:43
sculpt tables and to sculpt a stage. And
39:48
there are even effiges of villagers uh
39:51
celebrating or dancing uh or like
39:55
puppets standing on stage with musical
39:57
instruments made out of junk. um
39:58
mockeries of the people in the village
40:01
up above, some of which have been joined
40:03
by the real villagers at this point.
40:05
>> Um the ones that you saw jump into the
40:09
uh pile are some of them appear to be
40:11
dancing with effiges. Some of them are
40:15
um seated at a feast of spoiled food.
40:17
Not eating it yet, thank goodness, but
40:19
they're down there. And in the center of
40:21
the town or in the center of the well
40:23
yeah the the town the quote unquote this
40:25
this green under the green um is
40:30
what we can only describe as a heap
40:32
thing. It is a huge menacing pile of old
40:36
refues. Uh you almost can't even tell
40:38
what like where one thing begins and the
40:40
next ends because it's all held together
40:42
by putrified muck. And this gigantic
40:45
thing, this heap thing in this cave lit
40:48
by endless twilight is dancing to music
40:52
that the puppets are making. It's it
40:54
it's like up above you could hear the
40:56
musical instruments sound like they were
40:57
fighting with each other. Down here it's
40:58
a strange discordant sort of sound. And
41:01
the heap thing appears to be
41:04
uh celebrating the party that it's
41:06
throwing and welcoming its guests. In
41:08
fact, when you all arrive, it's a
41:10
welcome. You've brought gifts for the
41:12
party. Please come in. Join the
41:15
celebration.
41:20
So concerned. Uh [laughter]
41:29
I I don't know what to do right now
41:32
[laughter] because I know what Joe would
41:34
do, but I don't know what Dauki would
41:36
do.
41:38
>> [laughter]
41:38
>> I'm just gonna I'm just going to lean
41:40
over to Daisuk and said, "Is this in any
41:43
of your books?
41:45
>> I
41:46
>> I don't think this is in my book."
41:49
>> I mean, do I I mean, I guess I'll I'll,
41:51
you know, go through my knowledge base
41:53
and see if I've ever heard of like
41:56
sentient trash or like things gaining
41:58
sentience like this.
42:01
>> Probably very unlikely. H
42:04
I
42:06
think this has probably
42:10
So I think there's something you could
42:12
learn eventually, but I don't think
42:13
Dauki has enough context right now to
42:15
know what's happening.
42:16
>> Gotcha.
42:19
>> Wait a minute. Let me approach it from a
42:21
different angle.
42:22
>> Okay.
42:22
>> What do I know about the history of the
42:24
ravine before we started throwing trash
42:26
into it?
42:28
>> Okay.
42:31
Huh. What do you know? Uh, so I think
42:33
you're trying to I think so I think this
42:36
is going to be a role because I think
42:37
while you're trying to look through your
42:38
books or rack your memory, I think it's
42:40
trying to it's lumbering over literally
42:43
trying to usher you all into its party.
42:46
[snorts]
42:46
>> Sure. That's right. [clears throat]
42:47
>> So, I think you're going to get a uh
42:50
you're going to get a negative heap tag
42:53
uh for the uh the heap thing which has
42:56
the tag sharp broken tools as it bleans
42:59
down with claws made of discarded rakes
43:01
and old plows. It's like please enter
43:04
the party. Not that you [laughter] have
43:06
a choice down here.
43:08
>> Uh so go ahead. So, let's go ahead and
43:10
get some positive tags from you.
43:12
Uh, I'm thinking this is probably going
43:16
to be devoted and studious. I can't
43:20
think of anything else that I really add
43:21
to this.
43:23
>> Okay. So,
43:26
yeah, I think that's probably fair. Uh,
43:28
devoted student. I'm just looking over
43:30
the rest of your character sheet here.
43:31
Yeah, I think so.
43:32
>> Because I mean the only other things I
43:33
could think of like either bookkeeping,
43:34
bound notebook, ink and quill, but
43:36
that's more for writing stuff down. help
43:39
with the information that I have based
43:41
on that they've always done this since
43:43
the very first time when this thing was
43:46
settled. [sighs]
43:48
>> Uh, yes, you can. So, go ahead and Which
43:51
tag do you think represents that off
43:53
your character sheet? I'll let that
43:54
apply. So,
43:55
>> um,
43:59
character sheet like a bonehead. No,
44:00
there it is. Um,
44:03
>> and
44:05
>> we have that one fellowship tag as well.
44:07
So, we've read about this situation.
44:10
>> Yeah, I think it would be under my
44:11
charts and maps because that's kind of
44:13
part of it is like they chart also like
44:15
all of that kind of stuff as part of the
44:17
records that they keep.
44:18
>> Probably burning the fellowship tag at
44:20
this point would probably be advisable.
44:21
So, why don't we do that too, right?
44:23
Because we've probably read about the
44:24
situation.
44:25
>> So, we've read about the situation, the
44:27
benefit from Meadow,
44:30
>> uh, devoted studious, and then minus one
44:32
from the heap. So, plus three.
44:34
>> Uh, yes, that sounds right to me.
44:39
Uh
44:41
6 + 3 is nine.
44:43
>> Mhm.
44:44
>> Okay. Uh all right. So let's see. A So
44:48
I'm getting cut, aren't I? [laughter]
44:51
>> You might get cut. I don't know. So I
44:54
think um
44:57
All right. So I think what I think the
44:58
first thing that happens is that um so
45:02
you brought a gift, right?
45:04
>> Yeah. The the old shoe. Yeah. So, uh,
45:07
scratch the old shoe tag. Um, and the
45:11
heap thing gains the old shoe tag. Um,
45:13
as it demands the item that was admitted
45:15
that gave you admittance into its realm
45:18
and it incorporates it into its body. It
45:20
literally just like takes the old shoe
45:21
from you and like attaches it like a
45:23
little lapel pin to its chest.
45:26
[sighs and gasps]
45:27
And you you recall a story from ages ago
45:30
uh where long ago. So the the the
45:33
history that Meadow knows is that then
45:36
you know maybe fills you in on very
45:37
quickly in your ear was about how the
45:39
people have always dumped things into
45:42
the ravine from ages past and you
45:45
remember a story once about something
45:47
that lived in the ravine and the people
45:48
brought it gifts. Um
45:52
but no matter how many gifts the people
45:55
brought it uh it never asked for the
45:57
gifts but the more times that people
45:58
brought it gifts for it was beautiful.
46:01
um it desired more um because it felt
46:05
the emotions that were attached to each
46:06
item.
46:08
Um and with that the it takes the shoe
46:11
from you and then ushers Dauuki into the
46:13
uh into into the party. Um but Dauki you
46:17
also feel that once it's kind of pushed
46:18
you towards the rest of the party, its
46:20
gaze completely turns away from you. The
46:23
uh it has the special feature gifts of
46:25
refuge. Once it has its gift, it will
46:27
now leave you alone.
46:30
So, unless unless you unless you bother
46:33
unless you bother it again. Uh, so it
46:35
turns back and says, "Where's the gift
46:37
for the the rest of you supposed to
46:38
bring me?"
46:40
>> And so Tom rushes up and says, "I have a
46:42
gift for you." And he's going to snap
46:45
the smelling salts and just shove it in
46:48
the in the creature's face, [laughter]
46:50
figuring maybe it's under a spell and it
46:53
just needs to wake up like the villagers
46:55
did. [laughter]
46:57
Um, yeah. I don't think there's
47:00
necessarily going to be a role for this.
47:01
I think it catches it in midair
47:04
and it says, "Look, you've broken it."
47:07
Kind of stops.
47:07
>> It's supposed to be broken. That's how
47:09
you use it.
47:10
>> No.
47:12
>> Sniffs it and it laughs. And out of the
47:16
middle of it, this it has this it has a
47:17
voice that this close to it smells like
47:20
rot and mold. It says, "Ah, breath
47:23
freshener." and tosses the smelling
47:26
salts into its mouth. Or what passes for
47:29
a mouth and it says strange gift, but a
47:33
gift all the same. Come join the
47:35
celebration. It pushes you into the
47:37
party.
47:39
>> Okay, [laughter] that was my
47:40
>> uh Selby Sonora Meadow.
47:43
>> I just toss him the piece of wood. Oh,
47:45
here you go. [laughter]
47:49
>> It just we're just all giving him things
47:51
and going in there. We're not anything.
47:54
>> You hear here, Duki. I have an idea.
47:56
Just do the thing.
47:59
>> Um Um Excuse me. Do Do you have a name?
48:06
>> I'm holding my broken flower pot in
48:08
front of me, but I'm
48:10
>> It says I may have I may have had a name
48:13
once, but in this domain, you can just
48:15
refer to me as master, for I am lord of
48:17
this domain. And and you said you you
48:21
said we didn't have a a choice but to go
48:25
to your party. Why? Why is that?
48:29
>> Because you have come to my party. You
48:31
have brought me a gift. And now you will
48:34
join the party with these beautiful
48:37
surroundings and delicious amenities.
48:40
And also, if you don't, I know you care
48:42
very much about the other party guests.
48:45
It' be a shame if something happened to
48:47
them.
48:48
Okay, Sely's eyes are like really wide
48:51
and they're just she's like looking
48:53
around like, "Oh, this is great." Okay.
48:56
And she offers the piece of broken
48:58
pottery, the broken flower pot. Well,
49:01
here here here you go. [laughter]
49:05
Uh, okay. So, it takes it and it it
49:08
admires it and it says, "This is fine
49:11
fine thing. Uh, I will give it a place
49:14
of honor." As you watch it opens its
49:16
giant wet mall wide and it pushes the
49:19
pottery up to form like a front tooth in
49:22
its mouth. [laughter]
49:24
>> That's great.
49:24
>> Oh, that's just a single tooth.
49:28
>> Yeah, it's just a It's just got like a
49:29
sing It It's got mo It's got other
49:31
teeth, but this is now the nicest one.
49:33
You've now noticed them now that it's
49:34
added a new one.
49:36
>> You're You're looking very very handsome
49:40
there. Okay, bye. I'm just going to lean
49:44
into Ollie and like walk past very
49:46
quickly. [laughter]
49:48
>> All right, Meadow, you're the only one
49:50
who is uh or Meadow and Serena.
49:52
>> Oh, no. I said I tossed him the piece of
49:54
>> Oh, you Serena. Like I just went and
49:57
just walked past him.
49:59
>> So So this thing turns to you, Serena.
50:01
And it's uh Serena, you don't often feel
50:04
small next to anything.
50:06
>> I got you.
50:06
>> You feel small next to the heap thing.
50:10
I'm sure that all the hackles I have are
50:11
rising.
50:12
>> It kind of grins and says, "You tried to
50:14
resist my invite, didn't you? I felt you
50:17
hold the path open."
50:19
>> You look like you're made out of broken
50:20
things.
50:22
>> I am made out of all the things people
50:23
gave me. I am made of many gifts. Do you
50:27
have a gift?
50:29
>> I'm very good at knowing what to do with
50:32
old scrap.
50:35
[clears throat]
50:36
>> I'll hold out the claws.
50:39
Okay. So, this is very interesting.
50:41
Matt, uh, are these Serenus claws?
50:44
>> Yes.
50:46
>> As you handed the claw, the claws,
50:48
>> hand it yet. I held it out.
50:51
>> Uh, so it's going to reach for them.
50:52
What emotions do you associate with
50:55
those claws? Like when you look at those
50:57
claws, what feeling do you feel?
50:59
>> They're the last piece of what I was
51:03
that they're where I lost everything.
51:05
where my claws fell out and my fur fell
51:08
off and I twisted
51:10
>> and I turned into the thing I am now.
51:14
>> Back when I was smells like girl
51:16
>> because I was the only girl cub.
51:18
>> So I think it starts to reach for them
51:20
greedily and when it gets close it
51:23
actually moves so its hand is under
51:25
yours open. and it wants you to hand it
51:26
over willingly and it says I I
51:29
understand that this is the last piece.
51:34
Uh but you did have to bring a gift but
51:39
this is a very touching one that you've
51:41
brought me.
51:47
I dropped them.
51:49
>> Okay. Uh so one of the uh
51:58
All right. So, you hand it you hand it
52:00
these claws.
52:03
Uh, and the heap thing is given the tag
52:06
overwhelmed one. You gave it a gift of
52:08
sentimental value and it is overwhelmed
52:10
by the same emotions that you associated
52:12
with it.
52:14
>> Um,
52:17
so that's just a fun fact.
52:19
>> Nice. And it it's kind of its mood has
52:21
dropped a little, but it it quickly kind
52:23
of shakes it off, which is gross also
52:26
because it's made of gross trash. Says,
52:27
"Please come into the come into the
52:29
party. Let's uh let's let's put these
52:32
feelings behind us." Do do what do you
52:34
think?
52:36
>> Feelings never get behind you.
52:41
>> I walk in.
52:45
>> Okay. Um,
52:47
so now who was the first person in again
52:49
at this point?
52:50
>> Probably me since I jumped in. Yeah,
52:53
Tom. Tom.
52:53
>> Yeah, you. Yeah, you were very obviously
52:55
the first one down. Uh, and Oh, yeah.
52:58
You threw out the smelling salts,
52:59
though. Tom, as you uh as you make your
53:02
way uh past the thing and into the
53:04
party, um Alderman Beaks kind of grabs
53:06
you by the hand and says, "Tom, I know
53:08
you're new to the village, but I just
53:10
wanted to say that we really we really
53:12
like having you here, and I'm really
53:14
glad you're taking part in a celebration
53:16
this year. Why don't we join in the
53:18
realry?" And Beaks is going to attempt
53:21
to pull you onto the dance floor of
53:23
rotting puppets and sweep you into a
53:25
neverending dance.
53:28
>> All right. So, I would like to
53:31
uh [laughter] as as he does that, I'm
53:34
going to try and use my uh quick
53:36
reflexes and try and trip him.
53:40
>> Oh, okay.
53:42
>> To see if I can maybe like the fall will
53:44
knock some sense into him. [laughter]
53:46
>> All right. Uh at the very least. So, he
53:49
is he is the same enchanted villager
53:51
profile as at the party. So, it's either
53:53
subdue one or snap out one. Let's see
53:55
which one applies here.
53:57
>> All right. Uh, so let's do a roll. So
53:59
we're using your quick reflexes.
54:01
>> Yep. So plus any any weakness tags?
54:05
>> Uh,
54:06
he's can't use the sharp things. This
54:10
place is eerie, but that doesn't really
54:11
stop you. Uh, no. I don't think there
54:13
are any negative tags from that are
54:15
affecting you outside of anything on
54:17
your sheet. So,
54:18
>> okay. Uh, then that is an eight plus one
54:21
for a nine.
54:22
>> Nine. Okay. Uh,
54:25
>> roll fours. H. Okay. So,
54:30
what happens here?
54:33
So, I think I think Alderman Beaks tries
54:36
to pull you into the stance and you kind
54:38
of sweep away and you try to kind of
54:39
sweep the leg.
54:41
>> You're actually dipping
54:42
>> kind of like a cat, you know? Your cat
54:44
walks between your feet and you trip.
54:45
That's kind of what he was going for.
54:48
>> You you trip him and then you dip him
54:50
like you're you're the one leading the
54:51
dance and you dance away with him and
54:53
[laughter] just throw him on the floor.
54:55
Exactly.
54:56
>> Oh man. Yeah. So the cat try or the the
54:59
cat evades Beaks. Beaks I think. Um so
55:02
it was a nine, right?
55:03
>> Yeah. So Beaks Beaks kind of falls to
55:06
the it's kind of swept to the ground
55:09
>> and you see him kind of rubbing. He kind
55:11
of sits up rubbing his head. He's like,
55:12
"Ow, what is happening here?" But before
55:15
you
55:16
>> This is Oh, go ahead. I was going to
55:17
say, but before you have the chance to
55:20
say [snorts] anything to him, the heap
55:22
thing shambles way quicker than it
55:25
should and pulls you with its giant
55:28
hand, Tom, and it says, "Just because
55:30
you don't want to dance with the
55:32
aldderman doesn't mean you shouldn't
55:33
dance at all, little catman." And it is
55:36
going to pull you in itself. Um, Tom,
55:42
>> how large is this trash pile? large
55:45
enough to make large enough to make
55:46
Serena look small.
55:48
>> I think I figured I think I figured
55:50
something out.
55:51
>> Okay. Uh so I'm gonna I'm gonna finish
55:52
here. Tom, you have the status grabbed
55:54
four.
55:55
>> Oh god. Okay. [laughter]
55:58
>> Uh it it has an iron grasp on you. Um
56:01
and it is forcing you to dance. Um Duke,
56:05
it sounds like you figured something out
56:06
here. [snorts]
56:07
>> Okay. So I think Duke is putting the the
56:10
the things together in his head and he's
56:12
going from
56:14
what changed this year, what he just
56:17
learned from working with Meadow is that
56:21
I think this thing is missing its normal
56:24
offerings because nothing was thrown
56:25
into the ravine.
56:28
And I think that's what caused this
56:30
whole thing to happen because we have no
56:32
record of the people being led pi piper
56:35
style anywhere else. Right. M none of
56:38
this has ever happened before. Yes.
56:40
>> And combining this with the rune that I
56:42
saw of warding to reject people to keep
56:44
people from going down there.
56:47
>> I I look at the alderman and I look at
56:50
the the trash heap. Uh and I look at him
56:53
like um um alderman, I think you you
56:56
caused this problem.
56:58
>> Uh Beaks is kind of scrambling over
57:00
towards you cuz he doesn't know what's
57:02
happening. He did just see Tom get swept
57:03
into a dance and he says, "I know. I
57:05
didn't I didn't mean for any of this to
57:07
happen.
57:07
>> I I lean down and I say, "Promise it
57:10
will start the offerings again."
57:12
>> Of course. Yes. Yes. And he says, "I
57:14
just Oh god, I'm such a fool." M
57:16
>> Mr. Heap, Mr. Heap, I I I understand
57:18
that you want to dance and this is a
57:20
wonderful party. Um and it it looks like
57:22
you went through an awful lot of
57:23
trouble. Um I think the alderman would
57:25
like to talk to you real quick. I think
57:26
he has something that I think will will
57:28
make you very happy.
57:30
>> Beaks is looking from you to the heap.
57:31
From you to the heap. I What? [laughter]
57:34
And I I I I point him I point at him. I
57:37
say, "Make the promise."
57:39
>> I walk past and literally pick him up
57:41
off the ground [laughter]
57:43
>> and walk with him towards the heap.
57:47
>> Okay. Um
57:48
>> I think we've been a little I think the
57:50
town was a little derelch in its duties
57:52
and traditions. Don't you agree,
57:54
alderman?
57:55
>> Okay. So, we're going to have we're
57:57
going to have you make a roll, and you
57:58
are going to have a plus one from the uh
58:01
you're going to have a plus one to your
58:02
power. uh with an ally tag for alderman
58:05
beaks.
58:07
>> Can I
58:08
>> maybe not a willing ally?
58:10
>> Can I throw in with the same information
58:12
as before? I have it on record. You guys
58:13
have done this since the town was
58:15
founded and this is the first year you
58:16
have it. It's your own bad.
58:18
>> Yeah. So, you can throw in your charts
58:19
and maps for a plus one. Uh Serena, it
58:21
sounds like you're using your strength
58:22
to literally ensure he doesn't back out.
58:24
So, that's a plus one.
58:26
>> I'm there. Although, I want the he to
58:29
see me.
58:30
>> Yeah.
58:30
>> Yeah. because it knows what I gave it.
58:34
>> So, that's a so that's a plus three. Uh,
58:36
so far, um, I think this follows under
58:38
my studious and
58:41
>> um, I would argue that it wouldn't be
58:44
devoted, but this would possibly be
58:46
something to do with or I'd argue that
58:48
family business is part of this because
58:50
we've spent so long learning the
58:52
traditions and history of the town that
58:55
we're trying to become a part of
58:57
>> that. I think that would argue as well.
58:59
So, that's a five. So far,
59:01
>> that's what I've got.
59:03
>> Anything else?
59:04
>> Uh, I'm looking around here. Uh, Selby,
59:07
you want to kick one in?
59:09
>> Uh, yeah. You know, I had just picked up
59:11
a shard of pottery, but I still had the
59:14
ledger book. I was going to give it
59:16
>> that I was going to present at the
59:18
ceremony originally cuz I I didn't know.
59:20
I just, okay, I'm going to pick up a
59:22
piece of trash. But I do still have the
59:24
ledger book which is something a little
59:26
more meaningful. If it wants something
59:29
of value, I can
59:33
>> I can go up to it and say
59:35
>> Mhm.
59:36
>> I I also have this offering. It's
59:40
>> Yeah. So So you can you can offer it
59:43
that. So we're going to have dice game
59:44
make the roll, but no matter what that
59:46
is also going to increase it to
59:47
overwhelmed two.
59:49
>> So uh that with that what? Plus six.
59:52
>> Plus six. Um, I'm going to I'm only
59:54
going to invoke one of your negative
59:55
tags here.
59:56
>> Okay.
59:56
>> Uh, which is you were doing this
59:58
primarily because you were afraid to be
59:59
left behind.
1:00:00
>> Oh, 100%.
1:00:02
>> I think that's the only one that applies
1:00:03
here. You still get a plus four.
1:00:05
>> Yeah. Uh, plus four.
1:00:08
>> Uh, five - one.
1:00:10
>> Six
1:00:10
>> or six minus one. Excuse me. Should be
1:00:12
five. You're right. Right.
1:00:12
>> Yeah. So, that's a 12 cuz I rolled seven
1:00:14
on the dice. [laughter]
1:00:16
So that is way way way way way more than
1:00:19
enough to to uh increase that
1:00:21
overwhelmed status past its limit.
1:00:24
>> Uh that is perfect. So you you kind of
1:00:28
overwhelm this thing with sentimental
1:00:29
value.
1:00:31
Um,
1:00:32
>> we're we're in here with the power of
1:00:35
>> Yeah, it's literally the power Well,
1:00:37
it's the power of like friendship and
1:00:39
devotion and also sacrifice because
1:00:41
>> um you kind of it kind of the the pile
1:00:45
of trash around it kind of slumps to the
1:00:48
ground and at first you think, "Oh crap,
1:00:49
did I manage to uh do enough emotional
1:00:52
damage that it died?"
1:00:54
[laughter] Um, and then it kind of sits
1:00:56
up and it looks at you da with watery
1:00:58
eyes that may have once came out of a
1:01:00
doll. Um, and it kind of says, "This
1:01:04
this means more to me than any of this."
1:01:06
And it kind of like with a great effort,
1:01:09
this thing shoves and shakes and pushes
1:01:12
the pile of trash. And it reaches down
1:01:16
uh newly freed from its pile of trash.
1:01:18
uh is a beautiful creature that looks
1:01:21
honestly like kind of like a large
1:01:23
person, but its gnarly limbs look like
1:01:26
tree roots covered with green scales and
1:01:27
its eyes are flat orbs of amber. And
1:01:30
this thing reaches down and it takes the
1:01:32
journal from you and it says, "Once they
1:01:35
gave me gifts voluntarily."
1:01:37
Uh they they thought I was beautiful,
1:01:39
but more and more I was overwhelmed by
1:01:42
the emotions that were attached to them.
1:01:45
And then they dumped more and more
1:01:47
[laughter]
1:01:48
and more every year. But it was it was
1:01:52
like an invite to be part of their
1:01:53
village even though I could never be one
1:01:55
of them. And so this year when he and it
1:01:58
jabs a green finger at Alderman Beaks,
1:02:00
it says when he
1:02:02
revoked my invitation by not bringing me
1:02:05
things, I
1:02:07
shakes its head. I can no longer
1:02:08
remember what I once was.
1:02:11
[sighs]
1:02:12
in size.
1:02:14
>> I it it why can't you be part of the
1:02:18
village?
1:02:19
>> It says the the creatures of twilight
1:02:21
are not welcome on among your kind. I
1:02:23
understand. However, does not mean I
1:02:25
cannot leave you with a gift. And it
1:02:27
kind of reaches back into the pile of
1:02:28
refues and it pulls out something that
1:02:31
the inkwells would love as the local
1:02:33
book club. A strangely intact,
1:02:35
non-rotted, non-damaged, ancientlook,
1:02:38
dusty tome. Uh, and uh, Dauuki, add the
1:02:42
story, add the add the tag dusty tome to
1:02:45
your backpack.
1:02:47
>> Um,
1:02:48
and then, uh, it kind of uh,
1:02:52
in in kind of a flash, this weird
1:02:54
twilight limbmed domain under the cave,
1:02:57
like you feel something collapse as it
1:02:59
frees itself from its pile of trash. And
1:03:02
then the heap thing, well, the former
1:03:04
heap thing and the villagers,
1:03:06
uh, and you are all laying amongst the
1:03:09
refuge heap at the bottom of Skunk Glenn
1:03:13
>> and kind of nods and says, "Perhaps it's
1:03:15
time for me to move on. I
1:03:17
>> I need
1:03:18
>> I mean,
1:03:20
>> my people literally only really do
1:03:23
anything at night.
1:03:26
>> We are always looking for more people."
1:03:29
and kind of crosses its hand and says,
1:03:31
"I fear I would be again overcome by the
1:03:34
emotions of man."
1:03:37
>> Oh, that's a thing. Got it.
1:03:38
>> It's It's fine. Uh I've I've been And it
1:03:41
kind of it kind of it kind of pats you
1:03:43
on the shoulder with its giant treelike
1:03:44
hand and says, "I've been alone before.
1:03:47
>> Maybe it's time for me to be alone
1:03:48
again."
1:03:49
>> If you want a place to be alone, look at
1:03:51
the claws. Mhm.
1:03:53
>> There's a place we went
1:03:57
and there was a place inside it that did
1:03:59
that.
1:04:00
>> If you were there, you could keep things
1:04:02
away from it.
1:04:03
>> I think it looks at your claws for a
1:04:05
second and it's it's kind of reading the
1:04:07
emotions off of them and kind of reading
1:04:08
your history and it nods and it says,
1:04:11
"A wise idea, young bear. Be well." And
1:04:15
this thing turns and trudges off down
1:04:17
towards the other end of the ravine
1:04:19
towards the mountains that Serena knows
1:04:21
are where she originally came from.
1:04:24
>> Dice guy starts hyperventilating as he's
1:04:26
been holding his breath the entire time
1:04:28
[laughter]
1:04:29
and just like doubles over.
1:04:31
>> Okay,
1:04:33
>> Sely's going to be able remember to
1:04:35
breathe. Just kind of patting his back.
1:04:36
[laughter]
1:04:37
Breathe. Breathe in.
1:04:41
Out. Just follow me.
1:04:45
All right.
1:04:48
>> And yeah, so uh let's let's do let's
1:04:51
let's kind of do a little montage of
1:04:53
what happens afterwards. Um how how is
1:04:57
everyone reacting to this situation
1:04:59
where a creature of Twilight had been
1:05:00
living just under your town?
1:05:03
>> I think Tom is just going to like burst
1:05:05
out of a trash pile and like shake his
1:05:09
head and go, "What? What did I miss?
1:05:12
[laughter]
1:05:15
freeze frame credits. [laughter]
1:05:20
>> I mean, do we do we know of creatures of
1:05:22
Twilight as evil creatures necessarily
1:05:25
or just
1:05:26
>> not necessarily they're just things that
1:05:28
that are outside of normal, right?
1:05:29
They're just like essentially paranormal
1:05:31
beings.
1:05:31
>> Yeah. They're they're from a time
1:05:32
they're kind of a lot of them are from a
1:05:34
time before your time.
1:05:35
>> Um myth.
1:05:37
>> Yeah. They're myths. They're legends.
1:05:38
They're things from who knows. They've
1:05:41
come, no one really knows their origin.
1:05:43
They tend to avoid people. They are very
1:05:46
strange around people. Um they can they
1:05:49
also any kind of legend in in the in
1:05:52
Ravenale you can attribute to a creature
1:05:54
of Twilight if you want to.
1:05:57
>> Um
1:05:58
>> but no one no one would have ever really
1:06:00
suspected that you had one living under
1:06:02
the village. So that's a legend that the
1:06:03
inkwells uncovered. Huh. in in the dump
1:06:06
in the town dump.
1:06:07
>> And that's all being written down and
1:06:09
and and Yeah, I
1:06:11
>> I think that's our we we got at least a
1:06:14
point towards our quest, right? Prove
1:06:15
the old stories are real. Find something
1:06:17
that was only legend.
1:06:18
>> Mhm.
1:06:19
>> Yeah.
1:06:20
>> You absolutely found a thing that was
1:06:21
only a legend.
1:06:23
>> If this is true, maybe the other stories
1:06:25
are true, too. Which ones are true?
1:06:28
We've got to find out.
1:06:30
I I think I think we'll kind of uh I
1:06:33
think we'll kind of stop there. I think
1:06:35
maybe the next uh I think I think we'll
1:06:37
close on a uh if this were a movie, I
1:06:39
think we would kind of close on a shot
1:06:41
of most of you gathered in or around
1:06:42
Meadows Wagon uh with the dusty tome and
1:06:45
maybe one of you finally uh decides to
1:06:49
crack open that weird dusty tome. And
1:06:52
that's
1:06:52
>> here's the next book club page.
1:06:54
>> That's where we'll There's your next
1:06:55
book club. And that is that is where
1:06:57
we'll end our adventure.
1:07:00
Nice. Thank you. That was fun.
1:07:02
>> Yay. Thank you. That was great.
1:07:03
>> Yes.
1:07:04
>> Yeah. This was really This is really
1:07:05
good. I like the system a lot.
1:07:07
>> Yeah.
1:07:07
>> Thank you, Phil. And thank you everyone
1:07:09
