There have been few hopes dashed harder than when Matt looked at our topics and thought for a brief, shining moment that maybe dyes were coming to transmog, and not just staying in Player Housing. But no, it's just for Player Housing, and there have been some changes to dyes as we head into patch 12.1 next week. Because we livestream the recording every week, and Liz has been playing WoW our guest host for this week Six took us on a quick tour of his apparently bonkers Housing creation, and we talked about some of the incredible looks you can get with creative item combinations. (And if you like streaming, Liz has been streaming indie games on Twitch, and you can catch the videos on YouTube if you miss the livestream.)
And speaking of streaming, we have confirmation this week that BlizzCon will be livestreamed for free. And speaking of things being announced, did you hear there's going to be a new World of Warcraft adventure for Dungeons & Dragons? Pretty wild they announced that with about a month to go til BlizzCon. Makes me kind of excited to see what will be unveiled during the big show.
Oh, and this is proof that if you send us some questions for the podcast, we will answer them! Eventually!

Hi everybody and welcome to the Blizzard
0:11
Watch podcast where I will not be
0:13
allowed to ramble as much as I should
0:14
because there's going to be topics we
0:17
stick to like Blizzard and its many
0:18
games and then other video games and not
0:21
Diablo Ethereum. Uh but hi, it's me.
0:24
It's Matt. You guys all know I'm crazy.
0:26
It's it's not new. Uh with me this week
0:28
we have a guest and we're just going to
0:30
introduce themselves. Six. Hi Six.
0:33
>> Hello. Hello. How's everybody?
0:34
>> I almost say say hi six and then they
0:36
always go say hi six. They've got me
0:38
trained is what it is. Uh speaking of
0:41
people who got me trained. Joe Perez.
0:43
>> Hi. Uh not very well most of the time.
0:46
>> No. No. But I am housebroken. Fair. You
0:49
got to give yourself credit on that.
0:50
>> I I don't even take credit for that.
0:52
Pretty sure that's Julian.
0:54
>> Yeah, that's [laughter] true. is
0:55
probably mostly good. Uh, and finally,
0:57
the person who basically housed me when
0:59
it comes to writing certain words and
1:01
not using as many commas, it's Liz
1:04
Harper. Hello, Liz.
1:05
>> Hello. I'm I'm still working with pretty
1:07
much the entire staff on the use of
1:09
exclamation points. And, uh, Cory's
1:11
continuing to fight me on that one. So,
1:13
yeah, I don't know. I don't know if I'm
1:14
ever going to get anywhere. Well, I
1:16
mean, if nothing else, at least his
1:18
defiance shows you the limits of human
1:20
knowledge and [snorts] that, you know,
1:23
you know, he shouldn't be defying you on
1:24
this, but yet there he is. Uh, so yeah,
1:27
let's talk about World of Warcraft first
1:29
because that is how the list is usually
1:31
written. Um, changes are coming to dies.
1:34
I'm assuming this is for like housing
1:35
and stuff dies. Like if they've added
1:37
dies for armor, I didn't hear about it.
1:39
>> Yeah, if they added dyes for armor, we
1:42
would have been talking about it for 30
1:44
minutes already. Yes,
1:45
>> we would not have even done a pre-show.
1:47
It would have just been straight to
1:49
armor dye. So,
1:50
>> yeah, exactly. I agree with you.
1:52
>> I I I hate to break it to you, there are
1:54
still no armor dyes in World of
1:56
Warcraft, but there is dyes for your
1:58
your housing items,
2:00
>> but now they're going to be temporarily
2:02
warbound.
2:02
>> Yes.
2:03
>> Is that because that's permanent or
2:05
because it says temporary, so I'm
2:07
assuming it's not.
2:07
>> It's temporary, so it is temporary and
2:09
not permanent. Um, basically the deal is
2:13
that uh the way DY's work is changing in
2:17
patch 12 is going live on August 11th.
2:21
And uh part of that is to fix a bug that
2:25
happened with dye colors and lighting
2:29
effects that was causing dyes to look
2:32
darker than they should, but then when
2:34
it was fixed to look the way it should,
2:37
people liked the darker version. And
2:39
that's a whole pile of technical things,
2:42
but they're simplifying the dye system
2:45
and they're adding a bunch of new dyes,
2:47
like dye colors that looked the way the
2:50
original bugged dye colors were. So,
2:52
there are several new dye colors. Um,
2:55
but previously, you had to to make a
2:58
dye, you got herbs, you turned the herbs
3:00
into pigments, and different kinds of
3:02
herbs made different kinds of pigments,
3:04
and those different kinds of pigments
3:05
made different kinds of dyes, right? Um,
3:08
that took a whole lot of inventory
3:10
space. It so much. If you were in the
3:13
die making business, that was it's a
3:15
lot. It's a lot, guys. Uh, but now
3:17
they're kind of they're skipping a step
3:19
on the dye making. You'll take herbs and
3:22
you'll turn them directly into dye
3:25
items, which you can then directly use
3:28
to dye furniture, and they'll be instead
3:30
of being like, oh, this is a cerulean
3:33
blue. this is an alliance blue or
3:35
something. It will just be a blue dye
3:37
and you can use that dye to make any
3:39
kind of blue
3:41
uh blue color on a finished product. So,
3:46
uh, many less dyes, but part of the
3:49
thing is they're making them more bound
3:51
so we can't put them on the auction
3:52
house so that when we get into patch day
3:55
next week, there won't be any mess with
3:58
like old dyes floating around and uh
4:02
being traded or on the auction like
4:03
that. They're just kind of giving a a
4:05
sort of one week warning here where you
4:08
can't trade or sell them.
4:09
>> Cool. because if if nothing else, it
4:12
shows that they're actually thinking
4:13
ahead to what might happen if they
4:15
didn't make them not not tradeable for a
4:17
week.
4:18
>> Um it it is nice to see some foresight
4:20
though, you know, the system was pretty
4:22
complicated in its multiple steps to get
4:25
from uh from herb to dye. Uh and like
4:30
this seems so streamlined. You just you
4:32
take the you take the herbs, you make
4:35
just a generic blue dye, and then you
4:36
take the blue dye and you dye anything
4:38
you want, any color of blue, instead of
4:40
having to take the herbs and then make a
4:42
blue pigment and then take those blue
4:44
pigment and turn them into the specific
4:46
color of blue dye you want. It's why did
4:50
we the inter the intermediary step only
4:53
ever used up inventory space and made
4:57
you click more buttons in in between
5:00
point A and point B. So, this is
5:02
streamlined. This is better. But yes,
5:04
for this for the week until patch 12.1
5:07
goes live. Uh, your your dyes are all
5:11
warbound and you cannot trade them or
5:12
sell them on the auction.
5:15
>> Okay. I don't know how Six feels about
5:16
housing, but I know both you and Joe
5:18
love it. Uh, you've already basically
5:20
said this is a positive change. So, I'm
5:21
going to turn to Joe and then Six, you
5:22
can chime in if you want to. Uh,
5:24
>> Joe,
5:25
>> do you did you is this good for you? Do
5:27
you care? Have you even thought about it
5:29
>> about dyes? Mhm. Yes. Like honestly, not
5:33
really. I haven't really done a whole
5:35
lot with dyes. Uh so mostly because the
5:38
system is unwieldy and sometimes more
5:40
headache than it's worth and I just kind
5:42
of go, "Eh, I'll do other things." Uh
5:44
and then forget it exists and then I
5:46
move on. So,
5:47
>> but you think you'll be more likely to
5:49
do do more color theory with your your
5:51
housing now that you've got it like a
5:52
step removed from the process?
5:54
>> 10% more likely. Um, a lot of my housing
5:57
stuff is also just waiting on some of
5:59
the new rooms before I start getting
6:02
really super duper deep into it. Uh,
6:05
like I literally just finished the
6:07
special room that I've been working on
6:08
for like months today. Like I should
6:12
have been eating and doing other things,
6:13
but I got sucked into the game cuz uh
6:15
the Magister's Grand bookshelves were uh
6:18
less than 20 grand. Uh, so I bought a
6:21
whole bunch of them and finished off my
6:22
my thing. So I was very happy. But now
6:25
with the this, yeah, probably because
6:27
there's some in particular, there's
6:29
things like curtains that I really like
6:31
but are the wrong color for what I want
6:33
to use them for. And so like I would
6:35
love to dye them, but again, the process
6:37
has been so convoluted. I'm just like,
6:39
nope, I'm good. I will just wait. So
6:42
yeah, this is this makes it more likely
6:44
that I will engage with this feature. D,
6:46
you got anything? I am debating about
6:48
actually broadcasting my screen to show
6:50
you what I have been up to with my house
6:52
because I got into this in an awful way.
6:55
>> If we if we ask Liz nicely, she might be
6:58
she might be able to go to the housing
7:00
>> only if you ask nicely.
7:02
>> Liz, which neighborhood am I going to?
7:04
And I be aware we are talking about a
7:08
lot of um
7:09
>> we're going to describe it
7:10
>> things that Okay. Which which
7:12
neighborhood am I going to
7:13
>> Delaware? You're going to Delaware.
7:15
>> Okay. Yeah, we have a I went to Delaware
7:18
once. One of the things while while this
7:19
is getting there, one of the things I
7:20
will say that I've I've been really
7:22
impressed with, not to, you know, go too
7:25
far away from this, but it does ma this
7:27
is with the 12.1 stuff. Um, housing has
7:31
been such a creative outlet for players
7:34
that watching the creations not just of
7:37
like the people that feel brave enough
7:39
to put it on like YouTube or shorts or
7:42
>> neighborhoods and looking at them,
7:43
>> but just like literally walking through
7:45
my guildy's neighborhoods and seeing
7:47
them or visiting my friends houses and
7:49
looking at them and seeing just some of
7:51
the creative things that they've come up
7:53
with. Like I love Liz's treehouse. Like
7:56
I think it's absolutely genius the way
7:57
that you know inverting the trees, using
8:00
the roots to make the trunk and placing
8:02
the house on top of it and then putting
8:04
the lighting out there and everything.
8:05
Like Liz's house is absolutely gorgeous.
8:08
Um
8:09
>> there there's absolutely nothing inside
8:11
though. It's all all the work is on the
8:13
outside,
8:13
>> which is fine. Um, that is I'm Look,
8:17
okay, what we're looking at right now is
8:19
a house with a portal for a front door,
8:22
a curtain over the portal, and a bunch
8:24
of floating wagons and gazeos as if it's
8:28
being carried away like the Wizard of Oz
8:30
opening tornado scene. My god, you
8:32
maniac. [laughter]
8:35
>> Well, that's just the outside.
8:37
>> Oh, but
8:38
>> this is the This is the max limits.
8:41
>> Dare you go inside? Uh, no. But I'll
8:44
I'll go inside anyway.
8:46
>> That's actually the exit.
8:47
>> That That is not the door. Okay.
8:49
>> That's the That's the gift shop.
8:50
>> The gift. [laughter] Well, that that
8:52
makes sense,
8:53
>> frankly.
8:54
>> Oh, that's so good.
8:56
>> I'm never playing this game again cuz
8:58
it's going to destroy my life. It's
8:59
going to destroy my life.
9:00
>> It's It's bad. It's bad. Like I like I
9:02
said, like I accidentally lost several
9:04
hours today just like just arranging
9:07
things.
9:08
>> Building that treehouse. Building that
9:10
treehouse. a while. This is lovely. I
9:14
don't know what's happening in here.
9:15
>> Is that Is that a dragon skull in the
9:17
center?
9:18
>> Oh, yeah.
9:19
>> That's got to be the That's got to be
9:21
the hunter class hall dragon, isn't it?
9:24
>> I believe so. And then these are
9:25
actually chairs I angled slightly uh in
9:28
over the course of several days and just
9:30
put them in there as a little randala
9:31
for this.
9:32
>> So, this was
9:34
>> every room was a vibe check. So,
9:35
>> yeah, this room is like very like night
9:39
elf. It's got the purples. has got the
9:40
warden uh statues in the corners with a
9:43
dragon skeleton facing down towards the
9:46
floor uh from the ceiling surrounded by
9:49
uh it would look it looks like a fence
9:51
if you ever seen the garden fences that
9:52
have the archways but made out of
9:54
chairs. Six. This is brilliant. Like
9:56
this is gorgeous.
9:57
>> This is the entrance.
9:58
>> Yeah. Well, it's a good entrance.
10:00
>> This is clickable. This is clickable is
10:02
what it is.
10:03
>> It is clickable is what happens. And it
10:04
reaches
10:05
>> I I am going to point out and it really
10:07
hurts me to be the voice of sanity here.
10:09
We got to move on.
10:09
>> We do need to move on eventually.
10:11
>> Let me show you the bathroom.
10:13
[laughter]
10:16
>> You know, you have this with
10:20
>> Okay. It's very well lit. Obviously, you
10:23
need a throne to read on candles that
10:26
are Yeah. Okay. Fire hazard. Minor fire
10:29
hazard, but
10:30
>> it's light. And this way to the
10:32
bathroom.
10:32
>> So, while they're doing this, I'm going
10:34
to I'm going to put this out there for
10:35
our listeners in his serial killer. You
10:37
know what I mean? I'm going to put this
10:38
out there for our our listeners at home.
10:40
Uh Liz Liz has been streaming Desktop
10:43
Explorer. Um we could do other things
10:46
with with streaming like exploring
10:49
housing and other stuff. Uh if that's
10:51
something you might be interested in and
10:53
doing like a uh MTV crib style thing but
10:56
for World of Warcraft. So if that's
10:58
something you'd be interested in, let us
11:00
know.
11:00
>> Welcome to the bathroom. It's a time
11:02
machine bathroom. There's no water in
11:03
here. It just takes whatever happens and
11:05
puts it in the past.
11:07
>> [laughter]
11:08
>> I takes whatever happens in the
11:10
bathroom.
11:11
>> On that note, [laughter]
11:13
>> yes, we are now moving on to the trading
11:15
post. Quickly, quickly ride to the
11:18
trading post.
11:19
>> Uh, honestly though, fantastic work. And
11:21
and and if you have something you'd want
11:22
to show off to us uh for your housing
11:25
creations, I highly encourage you to
11:27
share it inside of our Discord server um
11:30
with the Blizzard Discord.
11:31
>> We'll come look at your stuff if we can.
11:32
>> We'll absolutely come look at your stuff
11:34
and we'll take a look at what you can
11:35
come up with. And when we're allowed to
11:37
share blueprints, we'll put my bathroom
11:38
there. [laughter]
11:40
>> Why are there Why are there people
11:42
embedded in the walls?
11:44
>> Though Hey, I have one of those on my
11:45
wall as well.
11:46
>> I But there are a lot of them.
11:48
>> Yeah, Liz, you're focusing too much on
11:50
the carbonite. We should move on to our
11:52
Wild West transmogs.
11:54
>> Yeah, this week's this month's uh sorry,
11:57
A the August trading post is it's
12:00
interesting. Um, I went and looked at it
12:02
before the podcast just because I wanted
12:04
to. And there's some there's some stuff
12:06
here that is distinct and new from stuff
12:09
they've done before. It may have
12:10
actually appeared before. I don't know.
12:12
Uh, but there's the various lawbringer
12:16
ensembles. Then there's the Grandm's
12:19
Royal Attire, which I know they did
12:21
something involving like chess before.
12:23
>> Is that Isn't that Isn't that a repeat?
12:27
>> That felt like a repeat. I just can't I
12:29
couldn't be certain. Uh but it's one of
12:30
the ensembles, but the Badlands
12:32
Lawbringer and the Righteous Lawbringer
12:34
are both really good. I know.
12:36
>> Um especially if you're on a dwarf or a
12:38
gnome. Uh I I really like them. I put I
12:42
was on my dwarf warrior who is who is a
12:44
girl with pigtails and she looked pretty
12:46
badass with that big hat and the thing
12:49
covering her face and Yeah. No, I really
12:51
I liked a lot of it. The the weapons
12:53
that are mostly available are like guns.
12:55
Uh but you know that's that's to go with
12:58
the whole western. There's a lot of
13:00
stuff like just individual armor pieces.
13:03
Uh there's a really nice uh snowy mask
13:05
and a midnight mask. They're both
13:07
essentially like cloth that covers your
13:10
face and looks in a specific way. Um so
13:13
if you want a different color. Go ahead
13:14
Liz. It's it's really these in on
13:17
stealing the show here with the old west
13:21
look in
13:24
>> this is a real um
13:26
>> I was pretty happy with the gunslinger.
13:27
>> Cassidy from Overwatch.
13:28
>> It does.
13:29
>> Cassidy from Overwatch. Hardcore.
13:31
>> I'm also a big fan of the gunslinger
13:33
hats. Just throwing that out there.
13:35
>> Oh yeah. Mhm. Yeah. Absolutely.
13:37
>> So yeah, the law the Lawbringer
13:38
ensembles are in there's kind of a
13:40
multicolored set, there's a white set,
13:42
and there's a black set. And the black
13:43
set is the reward for completing the
13:45
trading post.
13:45
>> Oh, don't forget about the high boots
13:47
because those are really cool. We don't
13:49
we don't have very many of those because
13:50
we just got one of those not too long
13:51
ago
13:52
>> and now we have more colorways of it
13:54
which are awesome.
13:55
>> Pairs of boots. One, you know, thigh
13:57
high boots. One's black, one's white.
14:00
Yes, I I bought them both. I [laughter]
14:02
don't know why you would think I
14:03
wouldn't have.
14:05
>> This not a surprise. You know her.
14:07
[laughter]
14:08
>> You all Okay. The shoes make the outfit.
14:10
You need the right shoes. Obvious.
14:12
Obviously.
14:13
>> Yeah, hats are in here somewhere.
14:16
>> The only thing The only thing that I
14:18
need from this is I need a cloak or a
14:23
tabard. And Blizzard, please please give
14:26
me this. That is a full-on Sarra. I need
14:30
I need it to complete this look. I just
14:32
I I need the the classic Clint Eastwood,
14:36
you know, for a few dollars more Sarra.
14:39
Please. Please. [laughter]
14:42
I mean, you know,
14:43
>> there's probably something the gamer
14:44
could use for that. I There's been a lot
14:46
of stuff.
14:46
>> No, there's no tabers that hang loose
14:49
enough, though. They all tuck in and
14:52
half of them get cut off by the pants.
14:54
So, you need something. This was This is
14:55
a big ask, right? You need something
14:58
that uh ignores the geometry of whatever
15:01
pants you're transmog.
15:02
>> Oh, that's way too hard.
15:03
>> So, the other thing about these sets,
15:05
the I'm moving back to the Lawbringer
15:08
sets, is that they come with alternate
15:10
pieces. So, like there's a pair of boots
15:12
that has spurs and a pair of boots that
15:14
doesn't have spurs. So, these are like
15:15
really nice ensembles with some
15:17
customization. Uh, there are two
15:19
different kinds of shoulders. Uh, and
15:22
there's there's two different kinds of
15:24
pants, but I can't tell what exactly the
15:26
difference. But yeah, these are this is
15:29
the best kind of ensemble because it
15:32
gives you choices in the same look. And
15:34
it comes in three different colors. And
15:36
I want them all, but I'm not going to
15:37
have the cash for it. So, my life is
15:40
sadness and pain.
15:40
>> I'm so sorry.
15:42
>> I mean, it's [clears throat and snorts]
15:42
significantly worse sadness and pain.
15:44
Ever since you went, you know, went to
15:45
Six's house and came back. Uh, it
15:47
changed you. And that's fine. Would you
15:49
have changed me, too?
15:50
>> Well, good architecture is like that.
15:53
>> Yes. Yes. So, is hearing let's go to the
15:56
bathroom. Not something I say to my
15:58
guests that often.
15:59
>> Oh, conversations.
16:01
>> Any good art touches your heart and
16:04
changes you forever.
16:05
>> And some bad art does that too,
16:06
actually. Um, but yeah, I I I like it.
16:10
It's a cool trading post. I don't have
16:12
much else to say because we can't sit
16:13
here and just go over every piece. Well,
16:15
I guess we could, but we're not going to
16:16
because I know Liz would start to be
16:19
like, "Matt, what are you doing?" Uh, so
16:21
yeah, that that happened.
16:23
>> I got I got two things I kind of want to
16:25
add here, which is number one, they they
16:28
knew what they were doing. Uh, because
16:29
if you scroll down there, you actually
16:31
can see they have a vigilantes mask,
16:32
they have eye patches, and everything
16:33
else. So you can full on LAR the Lone
16:35
Ranger with some of this stuff.
16:37
>> Absolutely.
16:37
>> Good to see more packages, by the way.
16:40
>> Yes. And the other thing, too, is that I
16:42
like in my paranoid mind, I think
16:44
they're actually selling off assets for
16:46
a Wild West expansion that just never
16:48
saw the light of day. [laughter]
16:50
>> Well, is it that or is this just going
16:52
back to the crossroads? Because the
16:54
crossroads were always kind of treated
16:55
like that a little bit back in vanilla.
16:58
Wow. I mean, it could be, but at the
17:00
same time, I feel like they would have
17:02
it would identify as the crossroads.
17:04
Like, this is your magnificent
17:05
crossroads set or something this month
17:06
to that degree.
17:07
>> More pig mounts. That's what I'm
17:08
hearing. More pig mounts.
17:10
>> Yeah. But to me, I feel like this was an
17:13
expansion that just like got halfway out
17:15
the gate and then got retoled for like
17:17
the
17:18
>> the trifecta we're on right now.
17:19
>> The Badlands has also been been
17:21
portrayed that way. And one of these two
17:23
sets is literally called the bad the bad
17:26
lawbringer set.
17:26
>> That's why I'm bringing it up. And yeah,
17:28
I I don't I don't know if it was
17:30
necessarily intended to be crossroads,
17:32
but it might have been intended to be a
17:33
whole Badland. Uh cuz yeah, it makes
17:35
sense. Uh regardless though, otherwise
17:38
we're just going to be here until the
17:39
end of time because I would start
17:40
talking about the guns because they're
17:41
making me want to play my hunter again.
17:43
So instead, we are going to move on and
17:44
talk about how cooldown manager changes.
17:47
Um they're trying to actually make it an
17:49
add-on equivalent. It I don't know if
17:51
you guys remember that they have a
17:52
cooldown manager now.
17:54
Yeah, because the cool down manager is
17:56
the only thing that you can use.
17:59
>> Yeah, it doesn't. Most of the add-ons
18:01
that did that feature are gone because
18:03
they they can't they don't work anymore.
18:05
>> All of them.
18:06
>> Yes.
18:06
>> Well, some of them just changed to
18:08
something else. Like a couple of them
18:09
were took all the cooldown managing out
18:11
and just kept the other stuff they had.
18:13
>> Uh regardless, yeah, they're they're
18:14
adding in more stuff. Uh, it's the slow
18:16
slow process of making it impossible for
18:19
you to do anything of of this with
18:21
add-ons and then slowly incorporating it
18:23
into the actual game. Uh, I I get that
18:27
that is where we are with this. Um,
18:29
there's a lot of changes to the API that
18:31
have coming in. There's going to also be
18:33
there's now going to have add-ons be
18:35
able to track custom auras, right?
18:37
>> Uh, yes. I mean the real thing the
18:39
notable things coming with the cooldown
18:41
manager things that were just big misses
18:44
on day one when it came out there which
18:46
you couldn't track potions you couldn't
18:48
track items you couldn't so you didn't
18:50
there was no way to see the cool down on
18:52
your healing potions
18:54
>> or trinkets yes I always used weak
18:57
orasures to track trinkets um uh and so
19:00
yes if it wasn't in the cooldown manager
19:02
there was just not a way to track it and
19:04
they have added uh trinkets
19:07
items as well as adding the ability to
19:10
control the buffs that that display on
19:14
um on your unit frames. A huge massive
19:18
massive thing for healers. So, I I kind
19:21
of say I I would kind of say what we're
19:24
getting in patch 12.1 is kind of like
19:27
maybe a beta version of what this should
19:30
have been. [laughter]
19:31
Like we're getting so close to like a
19:34
1.0 Oh, user interface release that's
19:38
that's been live.
19:39
>> Oh my gosh. Yes.
19:41
>> Um I I feel like it's getting close to
19:44
actually being usable without making
19:46
myself miserable. But that is that's
19:48
it's close. It's getting
19:50
>> Since we're talking about that though
19:52
with this change, what do you think the
19:54
big thing you need them to work on next?
19:56
Yeah, everyone here can contribute to
19:58
that. I would just use it to track my my
20:00
tank cool downs and obviously
20:01
>> Oh, yeah.
20:02
>> But go ahead. Who wants to go first? I I
20:05
feel like edit mode is still just really
20:07
a little buggy, you know, just edit mode
20:09
and cool down manager in general. Like
20:11
recently, it's done it even while while
20:14
we've been doing the podcast. Uh it's
20:16
like I'll move something from one
20:18
category to another and then it'll
20:20
change its icon into something else and
20:22
then you can't tell what anything is
20:24
because there'll be two or three things
20:25
with the same icon. That happens to me
20:27
frequently when I'm trying to customize
20:29
Cooldown Manager and it's like this is
20:31
this is the only game in town now.
20:33
There's no other way unless you just put
20:35
things on your unit frame on, you know,
20:38
just bars and watch the bars.
20:42
Uh, so this is fine. It's improving.
20:46
It's improving. Improvement is positive.
20:48
So I It's fine. It could be It could
20:51
just be better. It could be cleaner. It
20:53
could have a few fewer bugs would be
20:55
nice. Um cuz I keep I keep having issues
20:59
with it and
21:00
>> sometimes stuff pops up on my screen and
21:02
I'm like where did that even come from?
21:03
What are you doing? Cool down manager.
21:07
>> There's you're drunk.
21:09
>> There's a lot of there's a lot of stuff
21:11
that is I don't want to say like buggy
21:16
for the sake of being buggy, but it's
21:17
like it it's clashing with itself in
21:19
some regards. Like the edit mode is a
21:21
big thing for me. Um, I tend to be one
21:24
of those players that once I get my UI
21:26
set and position set, I don't move it
21:28
for any of my characters. It is the same
21:31
across all of them. And that is just the
21:34
way it is. And I know not everybody
21:35
plays like that, but that's that's the
21:37
way that I choose to engage. And so,
21:40
I've had a big problem where I will try
21:42
to copy layouts and it will just not do
21:47
what I want it to do or not copy
21:49
everything exactly. and it's really
21:51
really weird. Uh so hopefully that that
21:53
will continue to prove and the cooldown
21:54
manager was something like you pointed
21:56
out there's a lot of functionality that
21:59
uh was kind of useless to me because it
22:01
wasn't it didn't have what I needed and
22:04
this seems like it's getting closer to
22:05
parody to what the add-ons were doing
22:09
that I was utilizing before. So, I'm
22:12
happy to see that. And I'm also happy to
22:14
see the commitment to continuing to work
22:18
on the new add-on environment, which I
22:21
think is huge. And this kind of proves
22:22
that that they're still willing to
22:24
continue to work on it, not just with
22:25
their own integrated stuff. Uh, but
22:27
we'll talk about a second in the API
22:28
change that's coming in 12.1 as well,
22:30
which I think is pretty massive. Uh, so
22:32
like I'm
22:33
>> tell what that is now, like just move on
22:35
to talking about it.
22:36
>> Might as well. Uh, in 12.1 they're also
22:39
going to be adding the availability for
22:41
add-ons to track custom auras and and
22:44
get closer to not exactly, but start
22:47
bringing back some of that functionality
22:49
that weak or was doing for a lot of
22:51
people. Uh, so that's really good to
22:54
hear that they're opening some of that
22:56
back up. Uh, and I know that it's a very
22:58
very dangerous tightroppe to um I think
23:01
I've talked about this on the podcast
23:02
before where doing mythic mana forge if
23:07
you did not have weak auras some of the
23:09
bosses were just borderline un like you
23:13
could not coordinate for them. And so
23:16
like I don't use weak oras but for those
23:18
fights I had to install them in order to
23:21
actually participate in the fight
23:23
effectively. And now seeing that like I
23:26
understand why they had to shut that
23:27
down. the dependency is is crippling to
23:30
uh you know encounter design and
23:32
players. But going back and saying what
23:35
is safe and peeling back some of the
23:37
layers piece by piece to open up things
23:40
to the API
23:42
yet it it will be awful for the people
23:45
that are you know gone that no longer
23:47
developing the add-ons. But for the
23:49
folks that want to fill those gaps it's
23:51
hopeful right? it means that they can
23:55
potentially get what they want uh
23:58
basically back into add-on form which is
24:01
just really good. So just that's a
24:04
long-winded way of saying I'm this
24:06
opening up the API is again peeling back
24:09
some of those layers that they had
24:10
closed off before slowly and finding out
24:13
where the breaking point is by like you
24:15
know inch at a time and that's okay.
24:17
>> Okay. Uh, one thing we should talk about
24:19
now, uh, because it's important and it's
24:21
a follow-up to something we talked about
24:22
last week. Last week we talked about
24:24
BlizzCon bundles and none of us here at
24:26
the time knew whether or not the
24:29
Blizzcon live stream would be included
24:30
when you buy the bundles. And the answer
24:32
is it won't be because the BlizzCon live
24:35
stream will be available free for
24:36
everyone. You don't have to buy anything
24:37
to get it. You just go to the site when
24:40
it's up and watch it. Uh, which I think
24:42
is a positive decision. I think that's a
24:45
really good move on their part because,
24:47
you know, Blizzcon's important to pretty
24:50
much every game they put out and we
24:52
can't all go. Like, imagine if we all
24:55
went like everybody who might want to go
24:57
to Blisscon showed up at Blizzcon.
24:59
There'd be a couple million people. Uh,
25:01
so
25:02
>> I think that's something that we should
25:04
all mention that this now that we know
25:06
for sure that that is the case.
25:07
>> Yeah. I go ahead. That'll make I it'll
25:11
make things like co-streaming and
25:13
commentating on Blizzcon easier for
25:16
creators. And you can also mean you can
25:19
go and watch a creator talk about
25:21
something while it's being streamed.
25:23
Just having it open and available to
25:26
everyone makes it more accessible to to
25:29
talk about, you know, because you may or
25:33
may not want to just watch the straight
25:34
stream. you may want to, you know, watch
25:36
a rundown of the stream or um
25:40
>> might just want to watch some of the
25:41
stuff that goes on and not have to watch
25:42
all the big long thing. And that's
25:44
that's perfectly fair. And some people
25:46
make commentary for you, so you don't
25:47
even have to you don't it it allows for
25:49
the tailoring of the content, how much
25:51
of it you have to digest.
25:53
>> Yeah. But I I just think it makes it's
25:55
going to make it more flexible for
25:57
everybody and just just having it having
26:00
it out there. And also, you know,
26:03
looking back on like the olden days of
26:05
Blizzcon, it's we're living in a
26:07
different world, you know, back when
26:09
they had live streaming for a cost. Back
26:12
when they didn't even live stream it, uh
26:15
we're living in a different world. It's
26:17
hard to get away with, oh yeah, we're
26:19
just not going to You've got to pay us
26:20
for that. What?
26:22
>> Yeah, it is. It does feel like over the
26:24
past five years, if nothing else, since
26:26
2020 to now, and I keep leaving a year
26:29
out,
26:30
>> six years, Matt, 2020 was six years ago.
26:32
Um, but, you know, we've we've gone
26:35
from, you know, it's really difficult to
26:37
do that to everybody was doing it.
26:38
>> Yeah.
26:39
>> Everybody was streaming everything. So,
26:41
we know it's doable now. And if
26:44
anything, we're better at it now than we
26:45
were six years ago. Um, I made myself
26:49
say the right number. H. So, I I do
26:51
think it overall it's a good decision
26:52
and it's also good just so we know, you
26:55
know, I don't have to buy any of these
26:57
bundles to get the live stream. I can
26:58
just buy the bundle because I want the
27:00
So, that that in my opinion is a good
27:02
thing to put out there so people know up
27:04
front and so you don't uh but anyone
27:06
else have want to have any thoughts on
27:07
that before we move on?
27:08
>> Well, I'm not looking forward to
27:10
Blizzcon for a couple of reasons. Um
27:12
well, number one too, like this is the
27:14
only way to see it because it's
27:15
completely sold out. Um, and number two,
27:20
uh, it's going to be the first BlizzCon
27:21
kind of being run by Joanna Fairies, uh,
27:24
who's the current president of Blizzard,
27:27
um, as acting president. So, I'm really
27:28
curious to sort of see how she MC's the
27:31
show, how they integrate it, like where
27:33
the emphasis is that's coming up with
27:35
this. Um, yeah, I'm kind of excited for
27:38
it. So,
27:39
>> okay. Uh, I'm currently terrified
27:41
because lightning literally hit a
27:42
transformer not 40 feet from my house.
27:44
So, yeah. Um, ha, here's open. We're
27:47
still here. Uh,
27:48
>> well, that's what happens when we say
27:50
Joanna Furies.
27:51
>> Yeah, apparently it's like Fra Blucer
27:53
from Blazing Saddles. Um, let's talk
27:55
about Diablo for a second. This is
27:57
Diablo I 4, I believe, because if it's
27:59
patch 3.2.0 for Diablo, you know, three,
28:02
I'll be surprised.
28:03
>> Um,
28:03
>> it's Diablo I.
28:05
>> Yeah, we're going to get the they've
28:07
announced the uh patch 3.2.0, show which
28:10
is going to add like season rebirth
28:12
which is something I have wanted
28:14
forever.
28:16
>> It's something that everyone has wanted
28:18
forever is a just I mean if if anyone
28:21
here has not played Diablo II like the
28:24
developers of Diablo I assume um
28:27
>> I mean that's not true because they've
28:28
been stealing so much from it they must
28:30
have played it at some point. I I I
28:33
assume they've just heard it through a
28:35
whisper campaign and it's finally made
28:37
it back to them. [laughter]
28:39
Um because they've just so aggressively
28:42
avoided doing anything that Diablo III
28:44
did. So,
28:48
um, but yes, the season rebirth
28:50
basically you have a limited number of
28:51
character slots in Diablo. And season
28:53
rebirth let you take the, uh, take a
28:57
character you already had and just that
28:59
character's appearance, etc., etc. Um,
29:02
literally let you just reuse that
29:05
character without having to Yeah. delete
29:07
a character and make a new character. It
29:09
was as simple as that. Yeah, because
29:12
right now that's what I've been doing
29:13
every season. And that's one of the
29:15
reasons that I've wanted this for so
29:17
long. Um I every time I've played a
29:19
season, I've basically gone and deleted
29:22
a character and then made them again so
29:25
I could run the new season content
29:26
without having a whole like if they
29:29
don't if you don't do that, if you just
29:30
start a new character, you're going to
29:31
end up with your character list full
29:33
like real quick.
29:34
>> Yeah. Like in a week.
29:36
>> Yeah. So, I have been doing that, you
29:38
know, I've been doing that manually,
29:40
which means having to go and make sure
29:42
they don't have anything in their
29:43
inventory.
29:44
>> And are they wearing anything that I
29:45
don't want that to be lost? Like, so my
29:48
my normal characters, my my regular
29:50
ones, because I still play them, uh, I
29:52
can just I have to send all that stuff
29:54
or put it in the bank or whatever. And
29:56
now I won't have to do that as uh I'll
29:59
just remake the character. I won't I
30:01
won't have to like delete my character
30:03
and then be like, "Oh god, what name did
30:04
they have again?"
30:06
Oh jeez, I forgot the name. I have to
30:08
come up with a new name now. No, I just
30:10
boom. And it also means that the
30:12
character I feel connected to, I can
30:14
jump that character straight into the
30:16
season because you can do that with a
30:18
level one character on a seasonal realm.
30:21
>> You can just start on the new content.
30:23
So you can just keep that character and
30:26
do the stuff that you want to do now.
30:28
And you don't have to do the older
30:30
stuff. So that to all my mind, that's
30:32
that's brilliant. I'm very happy for it.
30:35
Uh it's not the only thing. There's also
30:37
going to be like uh what's the soul
30:39
splinter idea again is for socketing.
30:41
Yeah.
30:41
>> Uh yeah, it's uh that's another Diablo 3
30:45
borrowed thing. These are special sort
30:47
of gems that can work on jewelry. That
30:51
seems likely that it's going to be
30:52
related to the seasonal theme, but the
30:54
Diablo team has like explicitly
30:58
avoided talking about the season theme
31:00
because this season launches 2 days
31:05
after BlizzCon.
31:06
>> Yeah. So, they're, you know, obviously
31:08
they're not going to tell us too much
31:09
about
31:10
>> um So, yeah, that just means that we're
31:12
probably going to
31:13
>> This is going to be what they talk about
31:15
for Diablo I gone. So, yeah, they're not
31:17
>> presumably.
31:18
>> Yeah.
31:20
Um, so yes, there's presumably there's
31:24
going to be more happening here. That's
31:26
that's just what we're guessing.
31:27
>> But I mean, since I have recently been
31:29
playing a lot of Diablo II, I these
31:31
these are very close to the gems you
31:33
used to get for doing greater rifts.
31:34
>> Yeah.
31:35
>> Um, which is cool. I like those riffs.
31:37
Uh, I liked those those gems. I I also
31:40
have to admit I am glad that they're
31:42
bringing the alter of rights over uh
31:43
just as a thing. I I I had to give up
31:46
some stuff that I did not want to give
31:48
up. I had to do a challenge run, a
31:50
challenge rift just to get the treasure
31:52
from a challenge rift just to give it to
31:54
the altar of rights. And I'm going, what
31:56
was in this? I want to know what was in
31:58
this, but I don't want to do another
31:59
challenge realm. Oh no. Like, here you
32:02
go. There it goes. I was probably a
32:05
primal ancient legendary in there. I'll
32:07
just [laughter] I'll just be happy with
32:09
my extra damage. Oh god. So yeah. Um,
32:14
but still I am happy to see it that
32:17
they're they we know when it is. We know
32:19
it's going to be basically it's on the
32:22
some of this is on the PTR right now,
32:23
right?
32:25
>> Everything is on the PTR right now. So
32:27
>> until August 11th.
32:28
>> Until August 11th. Yes, they're still
32:29
doing this kind of like one week PTR
32:32
thing.
32:33
>> Well, I don't think they they haven't
32:34
put like what the season theme is going
32:35
to be up.
32:36
>> No, they haven't. But everything in the
32:38
patch notes is on the PTR.
32:39
>> All right. So, if you want to test it,
32:41
you've got till August 11th. So yeah,
32:44
it's weird. Liz has talked about this
32:46
before, but I want to point out to like
32:48
it is really weird that they keep doing
32:50
these little one week PTRs and expect
32:52
them to cover a whole season.
32:54
>> Yeah. I mean, I think that's why we keep
32:57
winding up with buggy Diablo se, you
32:59
know.
33:00
>> It's Avery. Thank god Warcraft is
33:02
better.
33:02
>> Yes, Warcraft is much better. It doesn't
33:04
get any buggy and nothing buggy. worked
33:06
out.
33:07
>> I mean, at least they're making an
33:09
effort to test content before they roll
33:12
it out.
33:13
>> So, buggy has a voice.
33:16
>> But yeah, at least they're making an
33:17
effort there. You're all right about
33:18
that, L.
33:19
>> I I'm going to give them points for
33:20
>> I mean, just let's let's be upfront. Uh,
33:23
one of the reasons that I think World of
33:24
Warcraft does have better bug testing
33:26
and overall content testing is because
33:29
it doesn't have as much solo focus. And
33:32
as a result of that, you got to make
33:33
sure that this stuff works for groups.
33:35
Yeah,
33:36
>> because that's that's that's what you're
33:37
doing. Um, but now that we've talked
33:40
about the the the upcoming stuff for
33:42
Diablo 4, we can still talk about
33:45
something World of Warcraft related,
33:46
which if you watch our tavern watch, uh,
33:49
you will have already heard us talk
33:51
about it, and quite frankly, you should.
33:53
Also, you should just watch it on
33:54
YouTube or something. Just stare at the
33:57
the still in image of it because we
33:59
don't I don't think we have a moving
34:00
image for it. So, just stare at it.
34:03
>> Just leave it on. And if you're at the
34:04
hospital, just turn it on and pass out.
34:06
Yeah, that's fine. Whatever. Go ahead,
34:08
Liz.
34:09
>> I I mean, we do p post all of these to
34:12
YouTube, and the YouTube has a a little
34:14
kind of agoraph thing over our graphic.
34:17
>> So, there you go.
34:17
>> So, there's there's a there's some
34:19
animation there. There's a little
34:20
something for your eyeballs.
34:22
>> Someday, my dream is that Joe will draw
34:24
little animated avatars of us, then they
34:26
will make them talk when we talk. But I
34:29
don't think that'll happen. Joe is
34:30
saying and
34:31
>> no, but I do know a guy or several
34:34
people that make uh VTuber uh rigs. So,
34:38
if it ever came down to it, I got an in.
34:40
[laughter]
34:41
>> I like how Joe is now Joe is now like a
34:43
guy in an alley. Go, I he wants a
34:45
VTuber.
34:48
>> Listen, my grandfather when I was a kid
34:49
taught me one thing. It's not what you
34:51
know, it's who you know. Be nice to
34:53
them. And when you we need something and
34:55
somebody's got something that they can
34:56
do, you go to them. [laughter]
34:59
I got a guy for everything. Everything.
35:03
>> Anyway, I sidetracked us pretty
35:05
convincingly there, but regardless, uh
35:07
there's going to be a World of Warcraft
35:09
setting for D&D, Dungeons and Dragons,
35:12
and it's launching on November 17th. I
35:14
expect we'll hear more about it at
35:16
Blizzcon because, you know, but we
35:18
already heard about
35:18
>> we really kind of heard a lot already.
35:21
>> Yes. Go ahead, Liz, because we talked
35:23
about it and I know you know more about
35:25
it than I do because I'm trying not to
35:27
know anything about it because otherwise
35:28
I'll get crazy and buy it. I mean,
35:31
>> I know I'm going to buy this thing.
35:32
>> I mean, I think it has all our money.
35:34
>> Yeah, that's kind of the problem. It's
35:36
got It's got every It has every race in
35:41
World of Warcraft. It has every class in
35:43
World of Warcraft. And you know,
35:45
>> refer to it as species, not race,
35:46
though. Just
35:47
>> species. They refer to it as species in
35:50
Dungeons and Dragons. Yes, you are
35:51
correct.
35:51
>> And they should refer to it in World of
35:52
Warcraft while they're at it.
35:54
>> Yeah, but they don't.
35:56
>> Um,
35:58
so kind of what's interesting about
36:00
playing Dungeons and Dragons rather than
36:02
playing a video game is that there is
36:05
flexibility with things of this nature
36:07
in that.
36:09
So, you want to play a gnome druid? You
36:13
want to have a kitten form? Yeah, do
36:15
that. you know, uh, do you want to play
36:19
a a a Drathier who's a troll? Sure.
36:23
Sure. An evoker, a troll evoker? Why
36:25
not? Uh, so we we haven't seen the book.
36:29
We just know that it contains all of
36:32
your classes and all of your species
36:33
that you see in the game with a bunch of
36:35
new subasses, a bunch of new items, a
36:38
whole adventure focused on Ice Crown
36:41
Citadel and uh raiding it and defeating
36:43
Arthus, which we've uh we don't do that
36:46
often. So, you know, it's not like I do
36:48
that once a week. I could I could do
36:50
more of that. Um man, it just sounds
36:53
like
36:53
>> times a week. [laughter]
36:56
It it just sounds like it is everything
36:59
you enjoy about World Warcraft, but with
37:02
uh more flexibility and uh playing with
37:04
friends, doing whatever you want instead
37:06
of being stuck in this nightmare of RNG
37:09
where it's 22 years later and you still
37:11
don't have invincible.
37:13
>> Yeah. On the other hand, there's not a
37:14
lot of transmog that I know of.
37:16
>> Well, there are a lot of items. Uh
37:18
there's perfect.
37:20
>> Yeah. You're
37:22
like just just say it looks like that.
37:24
No one. No one can see. Yes. My
37:26
character is also wielding a gigantic
37:28
Ash Gandhi. But there's only one. Yeah,
37:30
but I got it. No, you don't. Yes, I do.
37:32
But regardless, uh I I think this is
37:34
cool. Uh the book looks cool from what
37:36
I've seen. Like there's the slip cover
37:38
version that looks really like it's
37:40
going to steal my money.
37:41
>> Yeah, it's going to steal a lot of your
37:43
money because the slip cover version
37:45
seems to only come with the collector's
37:46
edition and the collector's edition is
37:48
$150 US. And it's so pretty. I want it.
37:54
stack cover and also
37:57
>> for those of you at home that have not
37:59
seen it yet, the collector's edition
38:01
slip cover uh has two versions of it. Um
38:04
it there's an or sorry two sides to it.
38:08
Um there is one side that is the
38:10
Alliance that's looks like it's done in
38:12
a blue gemstone. It's not, but that's
38:14
just the cover of the book. Uh, and
38:16
there's like a portal through which like
38:18
it looks like an ancient uh, dragonlaced
38:21
tome with gold filigree is what the slip
38:24
cover is. And the other side is the
38:25
horde symbol out of red gemstone. Uh,
38:27
it's absolutely gorgeous. Um, it also
38:31
comes with uh the collector's edition
38:33
again like it has a digital version that
38:35
that comes with it as well. Um, it looks
38:38
like it has a uh, I think we talked
38:42
about this. We still don't know what
38:42
they are yet. I don't know what they are
38:44
yet because they haven't in the retailer
38:46
copy. They haven't said anything. Well,
38:48
usually we'll get we'll get it spoiled
38:49
for us as a like retailers, they'll tell
38:51
us what it is. It's not on the
38:54
distributor listing. So, there are
38:56
pre-order bonuses uh for getting it,
38:59
>> but there also in-game codes for in-game
39:02
items that you will get for getting the
39:04
collector's edition. No idea what it is.
39:07
>> We got to make sure we tell people this.
39:09
Ingame means in World of Warcraft.
39:11
>> In World of Warcraft. in World of
39:12
Warcraft. And they do specifically say
39:15
items plural that there will be in-game
39:17
items,
39:18
>> but they do not even hint at what they
39:21
might
39:21
>> Yeah. And since we're, you know, talking
39:24
about this this collaboration between
39:26
Wizards of the Coast and Blizzard
39:28
Entertainment, uh, we should also
39:30
mention that Wizards of the Coast
39:31
president, uh, John Height, who used to
39:34
be a Blizzard Entertainment figure, he
39:36
was, wasn't he like the general manager
39:38
of of World of Warcraft for a bit there?
39:40
I can't remember what his exact job
39:41
title was,
39:42
>> I believe. So,
39:43
>> yeah. But regardless, he just stepped
39:46
down. He just retired essentially. He'll
39:50
be working as a consultant
39:51
>> uh for about a month. I think
39:53
>> he ostensibly resigned.
39:55
>> He did
39:56
>> ostensibly. That's what I'm going with.
39:57
>> Uh we're we talked about it again on
40:00
Tavern Watch. You should totally listen
40:01
to us on Tavern Watch, guys. It's great.
40:02
>> If you want to hear if you want to know
40:04
about tabletop games, yes, that is that
40:06
is where to find us. So, we talked about
40:07
that extensively there, but to to give
40:10
you the basic gist of it, he got hired
40:12
two years ago, and it was pretty
40:15
apparent to a lot of us that he was
40:17
hired because he came from Blizzard,
40:19
which is a big video game company, and
40:20
they wanted some of that sweet, sweet
40:22
video game magic, because Balders's Gate
40:24
3 was basically everything anyone was
40:27
talking about when it comes to Dungeons
40:28
and Dragons. Unfortunately,
40:31
two years in and he has resigned. And
40:35
the word resigned is doing a lot of
40:37
heavy lifting and there's so much finger
40:39
grabbing we we don't even know.
40:41
>> We we have no idea what the political
40:43
situation is right there with Yeah. Did
40:47
he Is he resigning? Is it a conflict? Is
40:50
it because Wizards of the Coast Hasbro
40:52
is changing the direction they're taking
40:54
the company? Because all Hasbro has done
40:57
is cancel video game projects. They
40:59
still have two video games that are
41:01
ostensibly coming out next year, but
41:04
Hasbro has canled many, many more than
41:07
two video games.
41:09
>> Yeah. Basically, the ones that seem to
41:10
be far enough along in the pipeline that
41:12
they've already started like doing voice
41:14
actors and everything
41:16
>> are the only ones that have survived.
41:17
One's uh Dungeons and Dragons Warlock,
41:19
which is like a firstperson shooter
41:21
where you're a warlock. Um,
41:23
>> and uh, we will be getting our first uh,
41:26
gameplay footage of that at Gamescom,
41:30
which is pretty soon.
41:31
>> Yeah, this when is it this month? I
41:33
don't remember if it's
41:35
>> I don't know. I I just know it's soon.
41:39
>> I think it's the 23rd, but I could be
41:40
wrong of August.
41:42
>> Yeah. And so in addition to that,
41:44
there's the game uh Exodus, which is
41:46
being made by Archetype Entertainment,
41:48
which was the company that uh they
41:50
basically started using a bunch of old
41:52
uh boware people who came over to that
41:54
to work on that game. And yeah, I mean,
41:57
come on. If you've seen any of the
41:58
trailers for Exodus, it looks very Mass
42:01
Effecty, and that's not a problem for
42:02
me. That's a good thing. I want more
42:05
Mass Effect made by the people that made
42:07
Mass Effect. And unfortunately, since
42:09
Boware doesn't seem to want to do that,
42:11
uh, you know,
42:12
>> but that's that's because there isn't a
42:14
Boware dead. It is never coming back.
42:16
This this hollow shell is all we have.
42:19
>> But so that's coming out next year as
42:22
well. Uh, we don't know exactly when,
42:23
but we know they keep saying 2027, so
42:26
>> we'll hold to that until they say
42:27
something different. Regardless, that's
42:29
basically it for games made by Wizards
42:31
of the Coast. They seem to be retreating
42:34
from their idea of we're gonna make
42:36
totally a lot of video games and we're
42:38
going to have AI stuff making our
42:40
modules for us and you know we're going
42:42
to do this and we're going to do that.
42:43
It's back to oh let's actually make
42:44
things people like because
42:46
>> yeah I don't know if they don't buy our
42:48
things if we don't put them out.
42:50
>> It's it's hard to say if that's actually
42:51
going to happen. Well, I mean, I think
42:53
from some of the announcements which we
42:54
talked about last week, I think it's
42:56
apparent that there's at least some
42:57
level of that with some of the things
42:59
that they announced, but we shall see
43:01
what that comes uh what comes from that
43:03
as things move forward. Things may
43:05
shift. You never know.
43:07
>> We don't know. Uh right now, we we've
43:09
had in the past that Liz has done the
43:11
site news and Joe has done the site news
43:13
and now I'm going to put the two of them
43:14
in a cage and make them fight. Except
43:17
they're just going to decide between
43:18
them really because I know they're not
43:19
going to fight and I don't have a cage.
43:21
It's like, you know, I don't then No one
43:23
would give me that power. No one.
43:25
>> We don't have a cage to cage fight in.
43:27
Yeah, that would that would involve some
43:29
things. Um, I can do the site news. I
43:33
just want to say thank you to all of our
43:36
supporters out there, everyone who is
43:37
tuning and listening, and everyone who
43:40

as our way of saying thank you. So,
45:45
thank you everyone for being here and
45:47
listening. And uh yeah, just thanks.
45:49
Thanks so much.
45:52
>> Yeah. And now another way we can thank
45:54
you for the first time in a while, we're
45:56
going to actually try to answer some
45:57
question because why not? I mean, we've
46:00
been asking you to send them to us and
46:01
now we're going to answer some. It's
46:03
almost as if we meant it
46:05
>> uh because we did we in this point just
46:07
that you know there have been times in
46:09
the past where there's been a lot of
46:10
news and it kind of gets in the way but
46:12
now we're we're out of news and we can
46:14
do some questions. Uh this first one I'm
46:17
going to go backwards so I'm going with
46:18
the last one first. This one's from Ted
46:20
Semi who is you know is often a friend
46:22
of the show and has done many things
46:23
with us including some of our our D&D
46:26
games hasn't he?
46:27
>> Yes.
46:27
>> Yeah. Yeah. So, MMOs and character
46:31
levels, this whole cycle of rush to
46:33
endgame and then spend a year plus
46:36
before new expansion that raises the
46:38
level cap by 5/10 levels and repeats the
46:40
process just seems like uh something
46:44
that could have been solved. Even Diablo
46:46
I has rushed to level cap and then
46:48
here's a new leveling system and gets
46:50
old fast. Are there any other systems
46:52
that allow character powergrowth that
46:54
doesn't need doesn't um you know hem
46:57
themselves into levels but have another
46:59
way to manage this? I'm gonna Who wants
47:02
to talk about it first? I mean so
47:04
there's a bunch of games that exist that
47:06
don't use uh levels. Uh like it the uh
47:11
the idea of power and player power
47:15
structure is subjective, right? like uh
47:18
Eve Online is a game that doesn't really
47:21
have a leveling system. Um you use a
47:24
skill queue where you train skills in
47:26
real time uh that you know and that's
47:30
how you level your character up in your
47:31
abilities. Um, there's games like Albian
47:35
online where the it's a classless system
47:38
uh where you it's a level free sandbox
47:40
where your p where your power and
47:42
unlocked abilities are dictated by the
47:44
gear you wear uh and whatever fame
47:47
you've earned with that gear. Uh, Secret
47:49
World way back when uh had a like a a
47:52
weapon-based skill point system rather
47:55
than a traditional linear system. So
47:57
like it there are ways to do it. The
48:00
problem comes down to an a lot of times
48:04
effort. Uh, and WoW is in a weird place.
48:08
First of all, WoW is one of the longest
48:12
running MMOs on the planet. And it's one
48:15
of the longest mainstream
48:18
like spotlighted MMOs in the history of
48:22
MMOs. And part of that comes with some
48:25
baggage and burden, right? The leveling
48:28
system was there from the beginning and
48:30
it kind of becomes part of the package
48:32
as you move through it. If you were to
48:34
completely remove the leveling system
48:36
from WoW as it is today, would it be WoW
48:39
anymore? Would it or would it be a
48:41
completely different game?
48:43
>> Um, the other thing is you're you talk
48:45
about the rush to end level or end end
48:48
game content at max level. The problem
48:52
too is balancing content creation. So to
48:56
your point, we spend about a year or
48:58
more uh at max level before we get to
49:01
the next expansion. But at that time,
49:04
think of how much happens from the time
49:06
you're max level to the time you go to
49:08
the next expansion. Uh you have how many
49:12
and we'll just use WoW as the example.
49:14
How many dungeons, how many raid
49:15
contents uh tiers have come out, how
49:18
many story content things have come out,
49:20
how many campaign chapters have come
49:22
out. it's constantly evolving. And the
49:25
truth is, and this has largely been the
49:28
case since really Burning Crusade,
49:31
um, is that the vast majority of players
49:34
spend the largest amount of time at max
49:37
level? And so you have choices. Do you
49:41
make more lower level, not maxle content
49:45
where players will get to experience it?
49:47
But in a lot of cases, uh, that's not
49:50
where the player base will be spending
49:51
most of their time, especially if you're
49:53
going to spend a year at max level
49:55
developing other things and and doing
49:56
other content. Or do you take that time
49:59
and develop more content for max level?
50:04
And in a lot of ways, Wow is better for
50:06
the fact that yes, leveling exists, but
50:10
it's not truly important anymore. And I
50:13
think we've talked about this on the
50:14
podcast years ago, uh, probably, and
50:17
we've probably done it a few times, and
50:19
I apologize if if I'm rehashing a point,
50:22
leveling these days really more serves,
50:25
especially between expansions, to
50:27
refamiliarize yourself with your
50:29
character and maybe get you some some
50:32
new abilities as you get up there and
50:34
sort of ease you into where you're going
50:37
to spend most of your time on that
50:38
character. And it's not important
50:41
anymore. Go ahead. I just want to jump
50:43
in because I wanted to give people an
50:44
example of what Joe was talking about
50:45
that's really easy to grasp. When you if
50:48
you go on on a character you haven't
50:50
been playing for a while, like I had a
50:51
level 70 shaman that I have not been
50:53
leveling in a bit. I as soon as I logged
50:55
on today, there he was with a catch-up
50:58
mechanisms and the catch-up mechanisms
51:00
includes you can just go and train for
51:04
like a bunch of levels on how to play
51:06
your character again as a new start
51:08
mechanic. There's actually like a whole
51:10
little story line involved in it. Yeah.
51:12
>> And that's because at this point, that
51:15
is what leveling a character does. Like
51:17
just like Joe said, if you start a new
51:20
character, like a new class you've never
51:21
played before, the reason that you level
51:24
from one, unless you, you know, spend
51:26
points, like if you have a character
51:28
boost or whatever, but the reason you're
51:30
going from one to max level is so you
51:32
can learn how to play the character and
51:34
get used to it. Like for me, playing a
51:37
warlock is the hardest thing ever. I've
51:39
got a level 60some warlock. Every time I
51:42
go back to him, I'm completely lost. I
51:45
have no idea what I'm doing. I have
51:46
forgotten everything this class has.
51:49
Imagine throwing everybody who starts I
51:52
want to play a warlock. If they just
51:53
give you a maxle warlock and go have
51:55
fun, you would not know what to do. You
51:58
would be like, oh god. So keeping
52:00
leveling at this point, level is almost
52:02
the vestage of that.
52:04
>> Yeah, it's it's it's lost its
52:05
importance. Like it's not in vanilla.
52:07
Wow. Leveling was this huge tremendous
52:10
journey, right? Like it took a lot of
52:14
time.
52:14
>> It was hard.
52:15
>> Yeah,
52:16
>> it was hard to do.
52:17
>> And that's where players spent the most
52:19
of their time.
52:19
>> Yeah. I mean, I remember at one point at
52:22
level 40, the only advice I could get
52:24
was go to Tenerys
52:26
>> and farm farm leather off a scorpid. And
52:29
I did that for like nine levels.
52:32
>> Uh cuz just that was the only thing to
52:34
do. And then I had to go to to like
52:35
what's it um Ashara and do the same
52:37
thing on something else. I don't
52:39
remember what I was killing. Uh but
52:40
yeah, there were just there were places
52:42
where you that's all you did. And so the
52:44
game has changed a lot. There's a lot
52:46
more content. And also there's an effort
52:48
to make content more evergreen. Like
52:50
with time walking and other things like
52:52
that, you go back to older dungeons. You
52:55
go back to previous content and you do
52:57
it again. So in a way, go ahead. But not
53:01
just that, like level scaling,
53:03
>> you know, so content is accessible and
53:07
relevant over a longer period of levels
53:10
while you're leveling.
53:11
>> So yeah, um you didn't get a chance to
53:13
say March 6, so do you have anything?
53:14
No, just that that's very true about how
53:16
like the game has moved on from it being
53:19
the from it being by leveling as say you
53:21
would get with classic and many people
53:23
still enjoy it over there too to now
53:24
it's more or less a way of understanding
53:26
and um how the character mechanics and
53:30
the character kind of character
53:32
character ethos kind of plays out and I
53:34
know I do something real similar which
53:36
is before every expansion I actually
53:38
pick the character at least the first
53:39
main I'm going to play and I start a
53:41
character completely fresh and I just
53:42
start from their starting zone and I get
53:44
to understand everything slowly. It kind
53:46
of just pour through the different
53:47
things. I mean, I'll put on 20 levels in
53:50
a day, but I kind of love it because it
53:52
really sort of not just teaches me the
53:54
character, but kind of invests me with
53:55
the character, too, in a way where I'm
53:57
not getting too frustrated with it in
53:58
the process and can bring them right up
53:59
to Endgame, which is what all the
54:01
expansions are about these days.
54:03
>> Yeah. So, um I hope that answers your
54:06
question, set. Um now, we're going to
54:08
move on. I think I'm going to go with
54:10
Scribbly because Scribbly has been very
54:12
helpful on Lorewatch and you know,
54:14
thanks guy by the way Scribbly. We we've
54:16
need those questions. So, uh, question
54:18
for any apprec appropriate outlet. Um,
54:21
this is one of those appropriate outlets
54:22
as far as I know. Um, what is your most
54:25
missed mechanic in World of Warcraft? Do
54:28
you think your mechanic will ever be
54:30
implemented? Why or why not? For for
54:33
instance, I really really wish we had
54:34
NPCs that moved around during the day on
54:37
a schedule as can be found in Stardew
54:40
Valley and Skyrim. It would add so much
54:42
to the immersion. I'm now having
54:44
nightmares about trying [laughter] to
54:46
find that. Oh, bloody heck. I couldn't
54:49
find him. I couldn't find his bear. He'd
54:51
be wandering around. I'm like, where are
54:53
you? Yeah, Rexar. Where are you, Rexar?
54:55
So, I don't I'm not I'm not down with
54:57
your idea, but any of you guys have an
54:59
idea of something you'd like to see come
55:01
back before I go on?
55:02
>> I can tell you where Rexar is.
55:04
>> Yeah,
55:04
>> you've never Come on, somebody please.
55:07
>> I mean, there's lots of stuff. I mean, a
55:09
lot of things I want to see come back
55:10
are things that people [laughter] don't
55:11
want to see come back. kind of miss
55:13
expertise, kind of miss hit, kind of
55:14
miss some of the ways that like you had
55:16
to sort of fight for your character and
55:18
minmax from the um the uh classic uh how
55:23
you actually had to go into the world
55:24
and maybe learn a skill from a trainer
55:26
across the other side of the globe and
55:28
stuff. I mean, these days we're pretty
55:29
much intergalactic space fighters. Like
55:32
you level up and then you can blast off
55:34
to any location and start stabbing God
55:36
right away. But [laughter]
55:38
back in the day, yeah, the the adventure
55:40
was the world itself. The adventure was
55:42
like you went over to here to learn this
55:44
type of poison, you went over to there
55:45
to learn that type of heal, you did
55:47
something else at that degree. And
55:48
there's a way about just like like
55:51
discovering the world, finding these
55:53
manifestations inside of it really kind
55:55
of uh be was the game itself and and
56:00
also how you played out was your choice
56:02
of character in terms of would you
56:03
stealth there, would you go in like a
56:05
big hulking warrior gorilla or would you
56:07
try and just heal your way in with a
56:08
group? So all of those things, the way
56:11
that the world was sort of connected to
56:13
your actual character development was
56:14
stuff that I kind of miss.
56:16
>> I am going to be controversial here. Um
56:20
and and it's I miss this for a very
56:24
specific reason. I miss resistance gear.
56:29
And part of the reason I miss it isn't
56:32
just because like the farming aspect of
56:34
it, which I don't think anybody like I'm
56:36
definitely not one of those people that
56:37
liked farming the the side of it. What I
56:40
liked about it was the communitydriven
56:44
aspect of it. So, if you were in uh like
56:48
on a server with, you know, competitive
56:50
raiding or whatever the case was back
56:53
then, there was also like alliances
56:56
between guilds and uh, you know, maybe
56:59
you had a friend who played on the Horde
57:01
side and you were alliance and you would
57:05
funnel gear and it became a serverwide
57:09
uh like sort of community event or feat
57:14
to, you know, get the stuff you needed
57:17
to where they needed so that you could
57:19
do those fights. And it led to some very
57:23
wacky things like hunters wearing cloth
57:25
armor to in order to get the uh nature
57:29
resist gear that they needed for
57:31
Princess Huharon. Uh or the flame uh the
57:34
fire resist gear in order to do original
57:36
Ragnaros or even have a a shot at at
57:40
Blackwing Lair. Like again, it was it
57:43
wasn't so much the fact of having to
57:44
have that sort of gear on you. It was
57:48
how it drove and informed the community
57:52
to sort of help or like kind of
57:56
everybody came together cuz like I
57:57
remember very fondly guilds that we were
58:00
in heavy competition with, we were still
58:03
making sure that they had the gear too
58:07
because we wanted our win over them to
58:09
be clean. Does that make sense? Like we
58:12
wanted to we we didn't want to do it
58:14
because we just happened to have 10%
58:15
more nature resist gear. We wanted to do
58:17
it because we were better at the fight
58:19
than they and like it it sounds bad, but
58:22
it was also like again they were doing
58:24
the same thing with us. Do all of your
58:26
male warers have the resist gear here.
58:28
We've got extra or we can make more or
58:31
whatever the case is. Let's let's
58:33
coordinate. So,
58:34
>> well, there was like a lot of times
58:36
guilds would would basically say, well,
58:38
we've got a ton of this, you know, this
58:40
fire resist gear that you need and
58:42
you've got a lot of this fire resist
58:44
gear that we need, but it's for
58:46
different classes, you know, like cloth
58:47
versus leather versus male versus plate.
58:50
So, there was a lot of trade going back
58:52
and forth in that way.
58:53
>> Yeah. And and again, it's not
58:54
necessarily that specific thing like it
58:56
doesn't have to be like resist gear.
58:58
It's mechanics that force the community
59:01
as a whole to respond. That's what I
59:03
miss, Liz.
59:05
>> You know, I've whenever I think about
59:08
it, I the things the things that I miss
59:12
about playing like old Warcraft were
59:15
there was some
59:17
decision. There was more decision making
59:20
involved in kind of the spells you cast,
59:23
the abilities you used as opposed to
59:26
just, you know, you had spell
59:28
downranking, you had mana was a much
59:32
bigger deal. Well, I know Joe's going to
59:33
disagree with me on that one because Joe
59:36
was constantly out of mana, whereas when
59:38
I was healing, I never ran out of mana.
59:40
>> I'm good.
59:41
>> Really? [laughter]
59:42
Not not this patch.
59:43
>> No.
59:43
>> Yeah. I mean, I I do play a paladin.
59:46
Paladins uh are kind of the ultimate
59:49
never run out of mana class. At least if
59:51
you're healing usually.
59:55
>> Yeah. Well, no one wants me to heal. So,
59:57
I'm a death knight. I'm I'm in my emo
1:00:00
phase, which is why I'm playing a mage
1:00:02
right now. Um, [laughter]
1:00:05
but it felt like you used to, you know,
1:00:08
I was playing a priest for a while in
1:00:10
vanilla and it's like you really had to
1:00:13
think about things like, okay, I'm going
1:00:15
to use heal rank five instead of rank
1:00:19
eight because that's going to be more
1:00:21
efficient and they don't need that much
1:00:23
healing. They just need like a rank five
1:00:25
healing. and you had to think about,
1:00:28
okay, there's going to be a spot.
1:00:30
There's going to be some downtime in
1:00:31
this fight. I can sit here and I can
1:00:33
equip my uh spirit staff that's
1:00:36
enchanted with spirit and stop doing
1:00:39
anything for a little while to get mana
1:00:41
regen ticking. Like, you used to have to
1:00:43
make weird choices like that that really
1:00:46
informed your kind of minute-to-minute
1:00:48
decision-making and informed your
1:00:50
planning in different ways for mana
1:00:53
management specifically. that feels like
1:00:55
it's kind of gone out the window because
1:00:57
all you're doing is casting your your
1:00:58
best and most powerful spells all the
1:01:01
time. And sometimes I think I miss that.
1:01:05
And sometimes I think I'm crazy for
1:01:06
missing that because it it used to be I
1:01:09
don't know if it was a better game. I
1:01:11
don't know that it was a better game,
1:01:12
but you had to think about different
1:01:14
things in different ways. And sometimes
1:01:15
I I think about those old days when I
1:01:17
had like three different ranks of the
1:01:19
same spell on my bars and I think ah the
1:01:22
good old days. And sometimes I think I'm
1:01:25
crazy.
1:01:26
>> See, I was the one who is a a shaman
1:01:28
healer
1:01:29
>> and in like a in classic well at the
1:01:31
time it was just World of Warcraft and
1:01:33
then in uh Burning Crusade and I I am
1:01:37
the reason they got rid of downranking
1:01:41
because I healed entire raid runs with
1:01:45
like rank three chain heal.
1:01:47
>> Rank four.
1:01:48
>> Now I I did it with rank three. Rank
1:01:50
four was better. I didn't know that. Uh,
1:01:52
but I could do it at rank three. Rank
1:01:54
four was the the king because it was
1:01:56
exactly perfect.
1:01:58
>> Exactly. Mana neutral.
1:02:00
>> Yeah. You you literally could just hit
1:02:02
rank four until you were like you could
1:02:05
just I could keep people alive forever
1:02:07
with it and occasionally put Earth
1:02:09
Shield on a tank and I was done. Like I
1:02:11
said once I told a joke once that my cat
1:02:13
came in and successfully healed Curator
1:02:17
uh in in Karazan while I was in the
1:02:19
bathroom. It's a joke, but it actually
1:02:22
happened.
1:02:23
>> She did it. She just hit my macro and
1:02:26
just every time she hit my macro, rank I
1:02:29
think, you might be right. It was uh I
1:02:31
know I use rank three a lot for
1:02:32
dungeons, but I might have been rank and
1:02:34
literally just rank four chain heal zoop
1:02:36
out into the world and then earth shield
1:02:39
on my tank every time she hit. And so
1:02:41
she just sat there and she hit the
1:02:43
button because it would make Earth
1:02:44
Shield pop up and she loved looking at
1:02:46
Earth Shield on the screen because it
1:02:49
was moving balls, you know, it's
1:02:50
orbiting stuff. She's like, I hit it
1:02:53
again. Hit again. And so I feel like I I
1:02:57
and other shamans like me are the reason
1:02:59
we lost downranking. We're the reason
1:03:01
you can't have nice things because it
1:03:03
was perfect. Chain 4 was perfect. Even
1:03:07
Chain Heal 2, Chain Heal 3, they were
1:03:10
all perfect. You could actually just
1:03:11
have chain heal ranks on your bar and
1:03:14
like use them for different things. Oh,
1:03:16
I'm going to be healing a a fiveman.
1:03:18
Yeah, I could I could buy with rank two.
1:03:20
>> I still have a screenshot from back then
1:03:21
where my one bar was nothing but various
1:03:23
ranks of chain heal
1:03:24
>> cuz it was perfect. It just you didn't
1:03:27
need to do anything else. And so I I
1:03:30
don't necessarily want them to bring
1:03:32
down ranking back, at least not the way
1:03:33
it was. But I do feel that nostalgia.
1:03:36
The thing I miss the most and only some
1:03:39
classes really ever got them to the
1:03:41
point where they were good is class
1:03:43
quest.
1:03:44
>> Yeah,
1:03:45
>> I miss like hunters with the, you know,
1:03:48
lock and rock. Um, priests with that eye
1:03:51
that got them the staff. I don't
1:03:53
remember the staff. Benediction. Yeah,
1:03:55
it was Benediction.
1:03:56
>> Uh, warriors and paladins with with
1:03:59
Quelser.
1:04:00
>> Um,
1:04:01
>> and warlocks had their whole mount
1:04:04
quest. So did paladins. Both of them had
1:04:05
a mount quest that significant.
1:04:08
>> Shaman had the terrible quest. They gave
1:04:09
him a hat nobody wanted.
1:04:11
>> Well, that's one of the that's one of
1:04:12
the joys of Sod right now is there's so
1:04:14
many class quests cuz with the whole uh
1:04:17
oh god, what do they call it? The glyph
1:04:18
system. Yeah. The glyphs you have to
1:04:20
earn by doing various things throughout
1:04:21
the world or at least you used to. But
1:04:23
that part of it was all class quests was
1:04:25
all I have to go here, talk to this
1:04:26
person, incinerate that person so much
1:04:28
and all of a sudden I have chaos bault.
1:04:30
But it was completely a warlock driven
1:04:31
thing in different warlock zones and it
1:04:33
was beautiful.
1:04:34
>> So that's the thing I miss. But at this
1:04:36
point guys, I believe we are done
1:04:38
because we are, you know, we've we're
1:04:40
like 8 minutes past our usual stop time.
1:04:42
So, uh, thank you to Six for being here
1:04:45
and being our fourth chair this week.
1:04:46
>> No problem.
1:04:48
>> Thank you to Joe and Liz for all the
1:04:50
stuff they have to do to make sure this
1:04:51
podcast even happens.
1:04:52
>> You're welcome.
1:04:53
>> That's what we're here for.
1:04:55
Thank you to you, our audience, for
1:04:56
being our audience so we can continue to
1:04:59
do these podcasts because otherwise
1:05:01
again it just becomes us hanging out and
1:05:03
chatting on Discord and uh Discord. It
1:05:06
is Discord, right?
1:05:07
>> Yeah.
1:05:07
>> Yes, it's Discord. I was I was like,
1:05:09
"No, it's Ventrilio." I was seriously
1:05:11
going to say it was Ventilio. [laughter]
1:05:12
It was a moment my brain was like,
1:05:14
"Dentilio, isn't it ventrilo?" No, it's
1:05:16
not. Ah, that was bad. Anyway, thank you
1:05:19
guys so much for being here. This has
1:05:21
been the Blizzard Watch Podcast and
1:05:22
we'll be back next week.
