The Queue: I am become QWOP

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

DREWBOB ASKED:

Do you think the artifact system would be more interesting if the artifact power cap was only high enough to complete half or two-thirds of it as opposed to all of it?

My contention: the ability trees are pure grinding fluff because it is a matter of time before they’re completed, eliminating any interesting decisions we could make.

They’re totally grinding fluff. I’m pretty sure that’s the intent. It’s another avenue of progression. Throughout the expansion, you’ll gather artifact power until you’ve filled everything up. The picking and choosing will be in what you take first, but you’ll eventually get all of it. If you couldn’t get everything, you’d have the vanilla talent trees problem: everyone would look up the ideal spec and use that.

SYDHE ASKED:

Alpha garrison gold nerf. The right approach? I think it’s probably the only solution to keep people from twinking 100s for garrison gold or bringing back they’re maxed out toons.

It’s totally expected and I don’t see what else they could do. If those nerfs didn’t happen, people would continue to go to their garrison on a daily basis for the gold alone. Personally, I totally planned to continue running missions on all of my alts if those missions didn’t get nerfed in Legion. Why not get all of that free gold?

I’m not upset about the nerf. Everyone should’ve seen it coming a mile away.

XPLOSION05 ASKED:

Since Alex is doing the Queue tomorrow, I figured I ask this question again. I am looking to start podcasting/youtube. What do you suggest  for beginners as far as mics, pop shields, mounts/stand, and any other essential/useful items?

I’m going to be honest with you: I don’t really know. I’m still figuring that out myself. I don’t have a fancy setup yet, though I’m hoping to get there eventually. I use a basic Logitech headset for all of my recording — and it’s clearly not the ideal hardware for producing content like that, because my sound quality is certainly lacking. For me, that knowledge is a total work-in-progress and there are undoubtedly better resources than me.

CHRTH ASKED:

Why do you think that — Oh, never mind, servers are up. Laters.

peace out bro

RAHKARNE ASKED:

Does Overwatch allow fully private matches?  Even if you can’t work towards progression in them due to farming concerns I wouldn’t care.  Its always awesome to explode friends.

You can make Custom games, yep! When you create a Custom game, you can invite your friends and fill all of the empty slots with AI-controlled players. However, the AI is as dumb as a box of rocks right now, so it isn’t the most thing ever if the majority of slots are filled by the AI. Also, the AI is only able to play as Reaper, Soldier 76, Zenyatta, and Bastion at the moment, which doesn’t make for particularly diverse matches, either. I’m assuming the AI in Overwatch is a work in progress.

And no, you can’t earn XP towards progression/loot boxes in custom games.

LEIGHHUNT ASKED:

Watched a few people playing Overwatch closed beta last night and it feels like one of those games that by the time I get to play I’ll already be outclassed and never be able to catch up. There were five people, who were micced up, all knew each other, were starting to get bored of the maps and knew all the characters just by their silhouettes. It almost makes me not want to bother with trying it all. I never got into HotS as I felt ‘behind’ when the game launched.

Keep in mind there’ll be a matchmaking system in Overwatch. As in all of Blizzard’s competitive games, you’ll ideally be matched against people at roughly your skill level. Launch might be rocky when everyone is just getting started, but it’ll settle down — eventually the people who are super good/skilled/experienced with the game will playing similars, and newbies will be playing against newbies.

Heroes of the Storm is similar. I really don’t think you need to feel left behind! You can easily play some vs. AI games to get the hang of things before jumping into competitive play. Or hell, if you want to play vs. AI full-time, you can totally do that!

MITCH ASKED:

You suddenly lose control of your various body parts. You must choose different people to control your left arm, right arm, legs, and eyes. Your choices are your livestream companions. Who gets what and why?

Liz and Anne get my arms because I trust them to not make me do anything rude. Rossi gets my legs because, as a career tank, he knows where to put me and when. I guess that means you get my eyes, which I do not trust you with at all, but I assume you can cause less havoc with my eyes than my limbs.
