Start your weekend with new games, from android soldiers to cute boats

We’ve made it to the end of another week, so it’s time to kick our feet up and relax with some new video games. This week we’re going to touch on the Souls-like game that came out last week (you thought I wouldn’t cover it didn’t you?)(AI Limit), kick back four furry feet and relax (Squirreled Away), help save the wilderness (Spilled!), and finally free ourselves from our rat captors before the end of the weekend (Rules & Rodents).

Anime Dark Souls: AI Limit

The first title from developer Sense Games, AI Limit is a futuristic Soulslike taking place in a post-cataclysmic world where you are a Blader, an artificial lifeform created to serve out a mission: to discover the truth of what happened during the collapse. AI Limit has you fighting all sorts of strange beings, some of which wouldn’t look out of place in Evangelion, but at least you are well armed for the task: swords, scythes, dual blades, and lances (plus a surprise weapon) all can become part of your arsenal. Perhaps the biggest change AI Limit offers to help ease players into these games is the lack of losing all of your Crystals on death (you lose a pittance, but retain most of them). Perhaps best of all, it’s a fairly budget title for all that it manages in about 30 hours of playtime to complete.

Get AI Limit for $31.50 on Steam.

This is nuts: Squirreled Away

If you’ve ever wondered what life would be like as one of the army of squirrels that take over my neighborhood during the summer, this game’s for you. Squirreled Away has you taking the role of a squirrel, and your objective is to just be a squirrel. Wander around, climb trees, jump from limb to limb, and then unlock an entire crafting system that allows you to build treehouses and other cute trinkets. Sometimes you just want a cozy game where you can enjoy the sun and the sky, and this one looks adorable for that.

Get Squirreled Away for $13.50 on Steam.

I’m on a boat: Spilled

I’m going to be honest — cozy games aren’t usually my thing, because I tend to like more story-based action titles so I have little attention span. Yet Spilled! really caught my eye on this week’s releases list, as it just looks so incredibly chill. You play as a cute little boat that just goes around cleaning up oil slicks and garbage in the water, turning them in to recycling centers to get money to upgrade your ship to do it all over again. It’s a calm title, with some hidden animals to find, but overall the entire game can be finished in about an hour; that said, I could see myself just playing this to calm my brain at night. Also, every sale gives 10 cents to the Whale and Dolphin Conservation charity!

Get Spilled! for $6 on Steam.

Baba is… mice?: Rules and Rodents

The first puzzle game that really blew my mind was Baba is You, allowing you to bend the rules by literally moving the words around to finish the game’s many puzzles. Rules and Rodents has a similar idea in place: you’re a mouse who was imprisoned (for cheese theft, naturally) and manages to, ah, “liberate” a Rules scroll, allowing you to manipulate the environment and enemy rats. As rats always follow the rules, this allows you to not only control your own movement, but the movement and decision-making of the rats as well. A neat bit of trivia about the game: it was designed to be text-free so that anyone can pick it up and play it, regardless of what language they speak.

Get Rules and Rodents for $5.10 on Steam.
