Creator of beautiful Overwatch mashup animations brings Hanzo into the mix

YouTuber Dillon Gu has been creating wonderful Overwatch animations for a year now, starting with KatsuWatch, reimagining the game’s roster as adorable kitty cats. Back in September, Dillon released a cathartic Mercy battle animation, and in October, a Zenyatta/Dragon Ball mashup. Now, just this week, Dillon has released what might be his most breathtakingly beautiful fight animations yet, this one featuring Hanzo.

The Pokemon mashup came as a delightful surprise, but even before that point, this animation blew me away. Not only did it evoke genuine giggles, but the action is fluid and gorgeous. I’ve always been a sucker for agile archers in a fight scene and Dillon Gu absolutely nailed it. The use of Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow gave me goosebumps, and while I’m not the kind of person who’d categorize Pokemon as epic in any way, the use of Gyarados in this animation is deserving of the descriptor.

While Dillon hasn’t yet released a behind-the-scenes making-of video for this animation in particular, he usually does, and some of his past making-of videos might provide some insight. The making-of video for Zenyatta Unleashed, for example, not only goes through the animation process but includes a Q&A session, too.
