The Queue: Once more into the breach

Welcome back to The Queue, our daily Q&A feature for all of Blizzard’s games! Have a question for the Blizzard Watch staff? Leave it in the comments!

Alpha is an interesting place where the reality of the game world only half exists. One moment you’re traversing through what looks like a perfectly solid tunnel, the next you’re falling through a wonderland of textures to your certain demise.

But hey, it makes for some crazy screenshots, so it’s not all bad, right?

MISTAH JAY ASKED:

Q4tQ: Was it ever explained whether or not Dog was Tyrathan Khort’s hunter pet from the Shadows of the Horde book?

It’s never been addressed, and this is certainly the first I’ve heard of that theory. But considering Tyrathan was injured out near Serpent’s Heart in the Jade Forest, and Dog was found all the way in Halfhill in the Valley of the Four Winds, I’d call it…not-so-likely. The sha really did a number on Tyrathan and his entire party, and from what I recall, he was the sole survivor.

…and if Dog is his pet, he can’t have him back. The puppy is mine now, forever and ever.

LOTHARFOX ASKED:

Q4Anne: You focus on lore, you RP, and you write back stories for Patreons to this site.

A few weeks back in the lore podcast, you mentioned that you only have two max level characters, one for horde, one for alliance. And you were surprised with both Rossi and Joe for leveling multiple characters of the same class.

My question is: do you create stories for your characters, and how they fit into the world, including the current expansion? Do you feel that a certain kind of character should exist, and want to create them, even if that character would be of a class you already have?

I feel like I should point out that I only have two max level Rogues, not characters — I currently have seven characters at 110 I believe, and I’m working on number eight. Or nine. I lose track! I usually approach characters the other way around though. I’ll pick a class and race I want to play, and then come up with an idea of why they’re out and about in the world.

I don’t RP with all of my characters, some of them I just level for the sake of leveling, and then forget about once they’ve gotten maxed out and geared enough to make me happy. But they all have stories in my head, and I make sure to fill out their RP profiles with whatever little tidbits I feel like disclosing. Even the bank alt.

The sole exception to this is the most recent alt, a Nightborne I made who I already had a story for and ended up being a Rogue because…well, it made the most sense within the context of the story I cooked up. So now I’ll have three Rogues at max level, two Horde, one Alliance.

IOES ASKED:

QftQ: with the mage tower warrior and paladin artifact skins, do you think there is a good chance of us getting more flails as weapons.

It’d be nice, but I haven’t seen any as of yet on alpha. We’re still super early in alpha development though, so there’s still a chance of flails making an appearance. I’d hate to think they went to all the trouble of developing flail physics only to use them once or twice, you know?

ENO ASKED:

QftQ: So I’ve been bothered by this for a while. All the Titans seem to have something they have a “domain” over – just like gods. Aman’thul was the first titan and the Highfather, so he’s like Odin. Norgannon’s like the “god of magic.” Eonar’s the nature titan. Golgonneth seems to have control over lightning and water. Then there’s Khaz’goroth who obviously seems to be a master of fire.

What does that make Aggramar the “god” of, since he seems to also have fire powers?

Aggramar was Sargeras’ lieutenant, back in the day before Sargeras went bonkers. Both he and Sargeras didn’t have a particular domain. Their jobs didn’t involve ordering worlds, they were champions of the Pantheon, meant to defend the worlds the Titans had ordered. Note that the Pillar of Creation associated with Aggramar is the Aegis of Aggramar — a shield. It’s pretty much a reflection of Aggramar’s role in regards to the Pantheon. While he originally started as Sargeras’ lieutenant, he ended up taking over the champion role when Sargeras ditched the Pantheon entirely.

As for his flame-powers, that could either be chalked up to enhancement delivered courtesy of the Burning Legion after his corruption, or just be chalked up as to his weapon of choice. His sword, Taeshalach, translates to “Flame Rend” according to the RPG books, so the fire might be a natural extension of that.

MAURD ASKED:

Have you given in to the floof and gotten yourself the newest dog on Azeroth? If so, how would you rate him and why?

I have not, because these kinds of things cost cash I don’t currently have to spend on floofs at the moment. However, I have seen him in-game being ridden around, and he’s a firm 12/10 on scale of good dogs.

@CORYJTAYLOR ASKED VIA TWITTER:

When transmogging your characters, what sort of look do you prefer? Sets from favourite times in the past? Current stuff? Clown suits? Simple stuff?

It depends on the character I’m playing. Like I said above, all of my characters generally have a story, whether I roleplay with them or not. Usually the story dictates the gear. It’s rare that I’ll use the entirety of a tier set when I create an outfit — I tend to mix and match different sets for something that looks not quite as cohesive. The pieces all look good together and compliment each other, but they aren’t necessarily from the same set. Part of it is just a weird aesthetics thing in my head where I want my character’s outfits to look like something they deliberately chose to put together, rather than something that was designed to match. Like they put some thought into whatever it is they happen to be wearing, you know?

@CLADRIAH ASKED VIA TWITTER:

Do you think we will receive some pre BfA stories outside of Christie Golden Book. Ex. Audio Drama, Lords of war/harbingers, or those comics?

I hope so! I’ve got my fingers crossed for at least one new audio drama, maybe some animated shorts, and hopefully some short stories. I miss the days we got boatloads of short stories in Cataclysm and Mists, I’d love to see them make a return! I wouldn’t mind more comics, either — but the short stories tended to be more involved plot-wise, so I prefer those.
