The Queue: Valheim

Ah, to be a dead viking, rafting on the water, probably about to get eaten by a sea monster and lose everything. It’s odd, because there are certain things about this game that are undeniably breathtaking and beautiful. The way the light glimmers red on the water as the last sliver of sun sinks slowly past the horizon, for instance, or the way the game plays with depth of field to make you feel truly immersed in the landscape. But my god does my character look like a two-polygon potato.

This is The Queue, where you ask questions and we break our summery escapism and wrap ourselves in a few dozen blankets to get you the answers.

Q4tQ: Are you submitting any Questions to the BlizzConline Q&A?

WHERE 👏 ARE 👏 THE 👏 DUCKS? 🦆

Beyond that, I’m not sure that I have anything burning to ask the devs — at least, nothing that hasn’t been asked before a million times, like the whole faction wars thing, or why you can see him if his name’s Invincible. If you have any questions, it looks like someone may have provided a link above!

QftQ: What are your local hot dogs like?

I live in Atlanta. We have barbeque. I reject the notion.

That said, according to The Internet, an Atlanta Dog is a hot dog with chili and cole slaw. They they serve that concoction (and a variant with cheese) at the Varsity so it may check out, but I’m rebelling against the very idea of it. I might allow it if it were paired with sweet tea, though.

Would you want an expansion where we went to Azeroth’s moons?

I like this idea in theory, especially given that the White Lady is worshipped as Elune. Is the White Lady actually a sentient entity or deity, or is she just a visual symbol of the deity that makes it easier to direct prayer to the deity of Elune? We know that there is some kind of magical force that identifies as Elune and heeds prayers when called to as mother moon, but I’m not sure that translates into her being the actual moon in the same way Azeroth is a baby Titan. Certainly if we visited the White Lady, Elune would play some significant part either way, and that could be fun.

The thing is, I feel like discussing the possibilities can be a lot more fun than when these things are codified into capital-L-Lore. The mystery of Elune is also a part of her character at this point, so going to the moon and knowing conclusively either way takes away from that as well, especially if we wind up seeing her as an NPC just standing there. And beyond knowing conclusively the mystery of Elune, I’m not sure that exploring the moons would be any more compelling than just going to some other random planet or plane.

Plus, most moons would rule out the possibility of a water level, and every expansion needs fishing!

Q4tQ: Do you ever get the urge to play a specific quest or storyline?

I had the urge to do the starting quests in Winterspring given by Donova Snowden down by the lake just outside the Furbolg tunnel.

I really, really wish there was a repeatable version of The Day Deathwing Came.

I also wish I could do the entirety of Break a Leg again. There is the daily Anima Conductor boss, but it just isn’t the same as seeing the events unfold with the theater kids while seeing the dawning horror a certain character (are we past spoiler expiration on that one?) experiences at the same time. The utter zaniness of the actors playing their roles and being all, “woonz” juxtapositioned against the dramatic irony of her seeing — experiencing — the events as they unfold and the dramatic irony that we know that we’re only partway through and it gets worse is just perfect.

So they’ll probably be streaming BlizzConline via their own site, but has anyone heard if they’re doing it on their YouTube channel as well?

The official news post says:

Now, exactly what that means in practice, I’m unclear. It stands to reason that all the content listed in the “Warcraft” track on the schedule would be streamed to the Warcraft YouTube channel. However, I’m not sure about the Systems track in specific, because while there is an official Blizzard channel, there’s also an official Blizzard track on the schedule too. We’ll see soon, I suppose — but I’d say confidently that you’ll be able to catch the vast majority of it on other platforms as well.
