The Queue: Beats

I’m pretty excited about Festival of Legends at this point, but it’s less because of the actual gameplay stuff, and more because of all the music deep dives I’ve been doing over the past few weeks. From cowbell soloists, to going down swinging, to bouncing around, to a symphony of sins, I’m loving it. Pretty sure nobody else in the house is, but I’m pretty used to that.

This is The Queue, where you ask us questions and we make a mixtape out of them, apparently. Some links may be mildly NSFW.

Q4tQ: With 10.1 coming in less than a month, do you think the flow of gear upgrade systems are encouraging folks to get their alts geared, or is it a perverse disincentive to wait a few weeks until the next patch to see if it’ll be less of a pain?

I think that depends on the type of player you are. The thing is, there are very, very few instances where doing the thing (whatever that thing may be) goes down so much smoother the next patch. Even things like soloing old raid content or doing old rep grinds have become easier over time as we get better gear, level more, etc. So, if you just want a stable of alts to have a stable of alts, it may make sense to just wait it out a bit.

However, if you have an alt or two that you want to get geared up in order to hit 10.1 running with them — maybe you’re changing mains, maybe you just want a Hunter to make farming as easy as possible — it doesn’t make a ton of sense to sit and twiddle your thumbs for a month. These gear upgrades are mostly intended for those players, and for players like me who are just hustling to keep up with their Overwatch and Hearthstone dailies, so the WoW stuff is kinda falling by the wayside. If the chips are down, you have a small window to gear up a little so you’re not caught out when the patch launches.

YARMET

I haven’t played current content on my ret paladin since BfA, so I’m curious what the paladin players are thinking of the promised revamp in 10.0.7. How has it lived up to the promises made? Have you heard any reactions from them (if you don’t play a ret paladin)?

Paladin? Paladin? What’s that? Can I tame it?

Q4tQ Any plans to see the Mario movie?

Not to sound like a grumpy old lady, but it’s rare that I go to the movies anymore. The last movie I saw in theaters was the last installment of the newest Star Wars trilogy, and it was around $150. To be fair, it was one of those dinner-and-movie places, and I did have An Alcohol which made for a rather enjoyable evening, but still. It’s too dang expensive, and I could just stream something else I intended to watch while I fold laundry or something at my house.

Plus, I’m pretty sure I’ll see the whole thing via Instagram rips of Twitter captures of Tiktoks over the next few months, anyway.

QftQ: Piggybacking off of Arthonos’s question, what is your least favorite body horror trope that is commonly deployed in comics and other genre fiction? My enthusiasm dies rather quickly once a character gets a limb lopped off and replaced to make them edgier or more hardcore. You?

Anything involving teeth, honestly. Even that one scene at the start of The Dark Knight where Heath Ledger shoves a pipe bomb in the other dude’s mouth gives me the willies, not because of the whole exploding thing, but because he breaks a tooth as his happens. Blerg.

Q4TQ: Is 10.1 coming TOO SOON?

On the one hand, like I said earlier, life keeps on going, so everything is coming too quickly for me. I’m just kinda spreading myself too thin, and honestly, they could probably say “oh, 10.1 in six months, just because Anna said so,” and it still wouldn’t feel like enough time for me, specifically. On the other hand, they gave us plenty of warning, and I’d imagine that most people who are making WoW their primary or one and only game are well on their way to capping out multiple characters on gear, reps, renowns, and all that jazz.
