The Queue: SGDQ week makes me happy

It’s Summer Games Done Quick 2023 week, and that means a happy Mitch. Mind you, the last couple weeks have been absolutely jam-packed, but knowing SGDQ is waiting for me… well, that makes it a little easier to get through the day.

We just passed the 500k mark this morning, and, as usual, my only complaint is that I don’t have the whole week to just sit and watch without distractions.

But distractions and Queues there are, so let’s dive in.

ARTHONOS GIVES US A FUN MENTAL IMAGE TO OPEN WITH:

I am very tired, I stayed up way later than I should have, and my reminder to go to bed at 1am was actually my daughter coming to find me. She had a bad dream “about a spider with no eyes”, so it sounds like she takes after her dad when it comes to strange Old God related dreams.

…Thanks for the D&D creature inspiration!

A giant, eyeless spider descends from above. It raises its head and somehow looks at you, though its face is empty — against all odds, it is more terrifying than a face with eight eyes would have been. That’s when a circular, toothed mouth forms as is from nowhere and lets out a shriek that chills you to your core. The spider lunges forward, mouth opening wider and shrieks getting louder as it does. You should have run when you had the chance.

ARTHONOS IS BACK WITH ANOTHER NOT-QUESTION:

Sometimes I wonder if the headlines and images are chosen by the same person. Like the headline will be “Datamined quest reveals the price to be paid for Ysera’s return” and then the header image is of Malfurion.

I can almost guarantee they are not. Most if not all articles on this website change titles (and sometimes header images) when Editors take over. It’s a somewhat unfortunate side effect of needing to “hit the right notes,” as it were, on posts. If the headline is unclear, Google won’t like it. If images are too similar, that can hurt too. So on and so forth.

And there is, of course, always human error or just plain misunderstanding. If a writer doesn’t convey WHY a picture was used or a title was chosen, it’s a lot easier to miss the intended goal and assume it can be replaced.

ARCUBALLIS IS MISSING OUT ON LOOT!

Does anyone know what causes the bug that makes the treasure gobbo die pretty much instantly? It happens rarely but it’s annoying every time.

I know this was answered by another commenter, but in case anyone else is curious, this is a result of the health not scaling fast enough.

Effectively, the Treasure Goblin spawns at, let’s say, 100k health. 50 people show up half a second later and, while it would NORMALLY try to scale to 5M health, the game still does take a second to register and adjust for that many people.

What you’re encountering happens when the crowd kills the Goblin before the game can tell it that it should have more health.

JALAMENOS SAW A LOT OF DIABLER:

What’s with all the Diblo articles – I had to scroll three whole thumb strokes to get to the Queue.

I need medical compensation.

If you ever notice a bunch of articles going out at the same time, especially right at the top of an hour — either here or across various news outlets — it almost definitely means an NDA just lifted.

In this case, an NDA had just lifted :P

BOVEN WHITEHOOF IS READY FOR SOME D&D:

Huh. I thought the D&D movie wasn’t coming out on physical media til the end of June. Turns out it was released yesterday. Maybe a side trip before going ot the grocery today is in order.

Again, not a question, but this movie was absolutely delightful in every way imaginable. The references were part of the world rather than in your face, the story was solid, and the cast was very fun. Highly recommend!

(Also it’s on Paramount+ if you happen to have that #NotSponsored)
