The ultimate guide to collecting new Druid shapeshift forms in WoW

Druids in World of Warcraft are all about shapeshifting. For Feral and Guardian Druids, shapeshift forms are practically is their appearance, and takes the place of tramsmog and unique armor appearances. In patch 10.2, WoW introduced a number of new appearance options for Druids, but some forms have a variety of shapeshift options that were already available in game — but just like transmog, you need to unlock them in order to use them.

You’ll unlock the basic ability to shapeshift while leveling up, providing a default appearance specific to your race — sorry, you cannot learn other races’ appearances. But there are lots of appearances you can learn through questing, achievements, or inscription glyphs (which you can craft or buy). And once you unlock these, they’re unlocked account wide for all of your Druids.

Swapping appearances once you unlock them is simple: just head to the barbershop rather than the transmog vendor. You’ll find them in capital cities, where you’ll be able to customize each of the default appearances as well as selecting alternate forms.

Ready to get started? Druids trying to expand their wardrobe, this is a list of all the legacy shapeshift forms we know about, as well as how you can collect them.

WoW Guardian Druid bear forms

Default bear form:  For most Druids, the default form is some variant on a bear, except Zandalari Trolls who have a dragon turtle form. The default form unlocks with several colors, which can be chosen independently at character creation and changed in the barbershop.

Claws of Ursoc (Legion Artifact appearence): The base Legion Artifact form is unlocked by obtaining your Legion Artifact weapon, with additional colors unlocked through questing. You get a new tint when you reclaim one of the Pillars of Creation, recover Light’s Heart, and complete the first chapter of the Order Hall campaign. (Note Alliance and Horde have different sets of colors.)

Stonepaw (upgraded Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked by finishing your Class Order Hall campaign, with additional colors unlocked when you complete the following achievements: Power Realized (unlock every trait for a single Artifact weapon), Part of History (fully research the history of your artifact), and This Side Up (obtain eight rare Legion archeology artifacts).

Avatar of Ursol (Balance of Power Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked by completing the Balance of Power questline, with additional colors unlocked when you complete the following achievements: Unleashed Monstrosities (defeat eight Broken Isles world bosses), Keystone Master (complete a Mythic+ dungeon at level 15), and Glory of the Legion Hero (complete all Legion dungeon achievements).

Fallen to Nightmare (PVP Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked via PVP, with each tint requiring a certain honor level: Honor Level 10, Honor Level 30, Honor Level 50, Honor Level 80.

Might of the Grizzlemaw (Mage Tower Legion Artifact appearance): The base appearance for the Mage Tower Druid forms is no longer available, but additional colors can still be unlocked if you previously unlocked the base appearance. You can earn additional colors by doing the following tasks with any Artifact appearance equipped: killing Kil’jaden in Tomb of Sargeras, winning 10 rated Battlegrounds, or clearing all Legion dungeons.

Guardian of the Glade (hidden Legion Artifact appearance):  Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon,  you can unlock the hidden appearance by getting the Mark of the Glade Guardian, which has a chance to drop from Ursoc in the Emerald Nightmare raid if you have the Claws of Ursoc in your bags. (You don’t need it equipped and you don’t need to be in Guardian spec for it to drop.) Once you unlock the hidden form, unlock additional tints by completing activities with any Artifact appearance equipped. You can earn these tints by completing 30 dungeons, by completing 200 World Quests, or by killing 1,000 players in PVP.

Fel Werebear: This updated version of the original Mage Tower bear form was made available by completing the new version of the Mage Tower The Highland’s Return challenge. To get started, talk to War Councilor Victoria at Deliverance Point on the Broken Shore. TomTom users can type this to be directed there: /way #646 45.6 62.2 War Councilor Victoria

Umbraclaw: Added with the 10.2 Guardians of the Dream patch, the Umbraclaw has three variants:

Bristlebruin: another 10.2 Guardians of the Dream addition, the Bristlebruin has two variants:

Runebear: the last of the 10.2 Guardians of the Dream addition is the Runebear, which is available with a single version only:

Random bear: The last option is the Glyph of the Ursol Chameleon which causes you to appear in a random skin based on the bear forms you have unlocked. This appearance is learned from an inscription glyph.

WoW Feral Druid cat forms

Default cat form: For most races Feral Druid form is a variant on a cat, the exceptions being Zandalari Trolls, which are a sort of horned basilisk, and the Kul Tiran, which are a wolf/wickerbeast hybrid. The default form unlocks with several colors, which can be chosen independently at character creation and changed in the barbershop.

Fangs of Ashamane (Legion Artifact appearence): The base Legion Artifact form is unlocked by simply obtaining your Artifact weapon, with additional colors unlocked through questing. You get a new tint when you reclaim one of the Pillars of Creation, recover Light’s Heart, and complete the first chapter of the Order Hall campaign. (Note Alliance and Horde have different sets of colors.)

Nature’s Fury (upgraded Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked by finishing your Class Order Hall campaign, with additional colors unlocked when you complete the following achievements: Power Realized (unlock every trait for a single Artifact weapon), Part of History (fully research the history of your artifact), and This Side Up (obtain eight rare Legion archeology artifacts).

Primal Stalker (Balance of Power Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked by completing the Balance of Power questline, with additional colors unlocked when you complete the following achievements: Unleashed Monstrosities (defeat eight Broken Isles world bosses), Keystone Master (complete a Mythic+ dungeon at level 15), and Glory of the Legion Hero (complete all Legion dungeon achievements).

Incarnations of Nightmare (PVP Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion Artifact weapon, this form is unlocked via PVP, with each tint requiring a certain honor level: Honor Level 10, Honor Level 30, Honor Level 50, Honor Level 80.

Ghost of the Pridemother (Mage Tower Legion Artifact appearance): The base appearance for the Mage Tower Druid forms is no longer available, but additional colors can still be unlocked if you previously unlocked the base appearance. You can earn additional colors by doing the following tasks with any Artifact appearance equipped: killing Kil’jaden in Tomb of Sargeras, winning 10 rated Battlegrounds, or clearing all Legion dungeons.

Moonspirit (hidden Legion Artifact appearance): Once you get your Legion artifact weapon, you can unlock the hidden appearance by getting the Feather of the Moonspirit item. This item is received after you activate the Owlcat Stone in each of the Hinterlands, Feralas, and Duskwood after hearing the feral screech while in the Emerald Dreamway directing you to go to that zone. The first time you enter the Emerald Dreamway each day a hidden roll determines if you will hear the screech and which zone it will send you to; if it’s one you haven’t seen before an emote will be displayed telling you which portal to use. The Owlcat stone has multiple spawn locations in each zone.

Once you unlock the hidden form, unlock additional tints by completing activities with any Artifact appearance equipped. You can earn these tints by completing 30 dungeons, by completing 200 World Quests, or by killing 1,000 players in PVP.

Druid of the Flame: The firekitty form had a model update in 10.2.5, but is still unlocked the same way: you need to kill Majordomo Staghelm in the Cataclysm Firelands raid. Staghelm can drop either the Fandral’s Seed Pouch toy or Fandral’s Flamescythe, both of which will permanently unlock the Druid of the Flame appearance.

Dreamsaber: Added in 10.2 Guardians of the Dream, the Dreamsaber has three variants available to players:

Random cat: The last option is the Glyph of the Feral Chameleon which causes you to appear in a random skin based on the cat forms you have unlocked. This appearance is learned from an inscription glyph.

WoW Balance Druid Moonkin forms

Historically Moonkin have only had access to a single skin that is determined by the character’s humanoid race. Using the talent Incarnation: Chosen of Elune gives a temporary armored version of the Moonkin form for the duration of the buff.

The only alternative appearance option was the Glyph of Stars, crafted by scribes. This glyph causes the Druid to appear in an astral version of their humanoid form when they shift into “Moonkin” form. If you have previously used this glyph and wish to access the new Moonkin appearances, you will need to use Vanishing Powder to remove the glyph from the spell in your powers book.

In patch 10.2 Guardians of the Dream, Moonkin form got a total overhaul with an appearance builder similar to the dragonriding mounts. Most of the options are automatically unlocked giving a truly dizzying number of variations possible, but with a couple of elements locked behind a raid boss kill.

Random moonkin: The last option is the Glyph of the Lunar Chameleon which causes you to appear in a random skin based on the moonkin forms you have unlocked. This appearance is learned from an inscription glyph.

WoW Restoration Druid Tree of Life form

Using the talent Incarnation: Tree of Life gives a temporary shapeshift in an Ancient of War form for the duration of the buff.

Restoration Druids have the choice of using the Tome of the Wilds: Treant Form, which will replace the Ancient of War form when casting Incarnation: Tree of Life — note that it is very important to know that there is no way currently in game to remove this change once learned.

WoW Druid Travel form

Stag: This is the racial form that is first learned when you unlock travel form while leveling. Each race has a slightly different model, with most being some variation on a stag, but Zandalari Trolls have a raptor form and Kul Tirans have a stag/wickerbeast hybrid.

Cheetah: The original travel form at launch, this has had a polygon upgrade and is now unlocked by the Glyph of the Cheetah. This appearance is learned from an inscription glyph.

The source of the recipe is a chance to be found in a Dreamseed Cache scattered around the zone. One of the components of the inscription glyph is a single Auric Fleece, which is looted from Elusive Auric Argali, which is summoned using a skinner’s bait near the Raw Argali Pelts on The Forbidden Reach:
    /way #2118 70.66 46.13 Raw Argali Pelts 1
    /way #2118 45.01 36.59 Raw Argali Pelts 2
    /way #2118 50.48 86.02 Raw Argali Pelts 3
  • Mark of the Lush Dreamstag (Green) — requires the Silent Mark of the Dreamstag, purchased for 500g from Thaelishar Groveheart. Channel the Mark on eligible Dreamstags until it changes to the Mark of the Dreamstag, consuming the Silent Mark in the process.

She is located in Stormwind and you will need to approach her on an Alliance Druid, but the form is unlocked account-wide.

Duskwing Raven: This form became available during Legion and is unlocked by the Glyph of the Duskwing Raven, made by Inscription.

Regal Dreadbat: This form became available during Shadowlands and is unlocked by the Mark of the Regal Deadbat, made by Inscription

WoW Druid Aquatic form

Sea Lion: The default racial aquatic form. Most races have some variation on a sea lion, with Zandalari Trolls getting an armored shark and Kul Tiran getting a wicker monstrosity.

Orca: this form became available during Battle for Azeroth and is unlocked by the Glyph of the Orca, made by Inscription.

Dolphin: This form became available during Battle for Azeroth and is unlocked by the Glyph of the Dolphin, made by Inscription.

Note that you will need both sets of 10 fish at the same time to get the buff. If you’re fishing in Raid Finder wait until you have all the fish before progressing. You will need Dragonflight fishing to get these fish, but exactly what skill you’ll need isn’t certain yet.

  1. In The Scorched Hall, fish up 10 Awakening Sunfish from one of the lava pools in Volcoross’s room.
  2. In the Wellspring Atrium, fish up 10 Slumbering Moonfish from one of the pools, testing suggests you can use any pool in the atrium.
  3. Still in the Wellspring Atrium and toss all 10 Moonfish and 10 Sunfish into the largest pool in the Atrium, you will now get the buff Attuned Angler which will last for 30 minutes.
  4. You should now see a Prismatic Whiskerfish fishing school in the largest pool in the Atrium. Fish until you catch Xena, the Whimsical Whiskerfish. If you fail to catch her before you lose the Attuned Angler buff you will need to repeat the first three steps to get it again.
  5. Once you have caught Xena, release her back into the waters of the Wellspring Atrium at the same location as the pool where you fished her up. She will reward you with the Scale of the Prismatic Whiskerfish. Use the item from your bag to unlock the new form.

Random Aquatic form: The last option is the Glyph of the Aquatic Chameleon which causes you to appear in a random skin based on the aquatic forms you have unlocked. This appearance is learned from an inscription glyph.
