The Queue: Voidform travel is all the rage

Telogrus Rift has solved the issue of transportation among floating rocks perched at the edge of the Void by transforming your character into some sort of Void or Shadow creature. While it’s surely a creative solution, I can’t help but think doing it too often will result in extra shadowy appendages over time or a one-way trip into the neighboring abyss — and neither result seems ideal. Maybe Gryphons and Wyverns aren’t fond of all that black and purple?

That said, despite the clear and present danger to your character’s existence I do recommend partaking in the new patch 10.2.7 questline. It doesn’t take very long and you see the pieces of The War Within start to come together.

While I ponder whether an Earthen covered in tentacles would actually be a roper — no, not those ropers —  let’s answer some questions!

CAPTAIN CAKEWALK, TECH KITTY EARNS HIS WINGS EVERY DAY

Does anyone else like to woosh around on the Dragonriding mount, or even better as a Dracthyr? It’s so darn cool and when I’m vibing, not much can beat (musical pun!) it! :D

Flying around as a Dracthyr is so much fun I dunno why I’d ever use a flying mount. It’s a blast, and I look forward to Druids being able to do the same in The War Within (their current flight form is ok, but it doesn’t feel the same as Soar). Maybe every class should get a mountless flight option!

… don’t worry Druids, you’ll still have the only insta-cast.

RED (赤) STARTS SPEAKING IN TONGUES

Q4TQ: if you could have your WoW characters actually learn other in-game languages, which would you choose, and why?

Would it be cheating to say “all of them”? As someone who struggles regularly with understanding spoken language in the real world I enjoy the fantasy of knowing exactly what someone is saying all the time.

If I had to choose, though, I think I’d go with Titan. I bet there’s a lot of info stored in discs out there, and knowing how to read them without translation would certainly be a positive gain for my characters.

INVERSIUS ASKS AN EASY ONE

Can the Emissary of War, for 4 mythic instances cleared, be done on Mythic 0+?

Yep! No need to have a key to do it. Since it rewards two Ancient Bronze Bullions I may even do it this week!

ARTHONOS EMBRACES THE SHADOWY SIDE OF THE FORCE

Q4tQ: Do you think TWW is going to continue the Shadow Priest Anduin story they set up at the end of BfA?

No, and I’m not so certain that was ever the intent of those little moments we saw with Anduin. For one thing we have Alleria who followed a similar path to shadowiness (wait, that’s a word?!? huh. who knew?). For another I always felt they were more of a “hey, Anduin has inner struggles” indicator than a narrative suggestion.

I think Anduin is going to spend The Worldsoul Saga regaining his faith in the Light and himself.

RED (赤) WANTS ME TO CHOOSE FAVORITES

Q4TQ: what are your favorite gaming companies?

Mine are Vanillaware and Supergiant.

I find this to be a loaded question, and not just because we’re in late-stage capitalism and ergo there is no ethical consumption. While the industry has gotten better with optics lately (if you ignore the laid off thousands) the reality is that even in companies with sterling reputations it behooves us not to look too closely at how the sausage is made.

Still, there are certainly companies I respect until proven otherwise. You mention Supergiant, and they’re a perfect example: Hades 2 just went into Early Access and instead of charging the $50 or even $60 they could after the phenomenal success of the first game they’re sticking to a $30 price point. Hopefully we don’t find out in three months that they’re using slave labor to keep the cost that low.

I also want to give a shoutout to my favorite wholesome (most of the time) yuri visual novel publisher Studio Elan as they certainly seem to be on the up-and-up.

PLUNDERLORD ROXXII WANTS TO EMBRACE HIS HERITAGE

Anyone know where the troll heritage armor quest starts?

I couldn’t figure out how to get it to start for my Draenei, but fortunately you can start it from the Adventure Guide in the Suggested Content section (may have to scroll a few pages to find it). If you’re doing the Draenei one, don’t be like me and go to Exodar via portals instead of using the handy direct teleport the quest gives you — I imagine Trolls have something similar for their quest chain.

SOEROAH WANTS TO CHALLENGE THE PAST

Seems like you can solo BfA raids now?

I was able to solo normal Crucible of Storms just now, so maybe! Although maybe it was already soloable at current ilvls? I’m sure we’ll have confirmed proof Soon™.

DISHSOAP IS TRAVELING (HOPEFULLY WITHOUT BEING IN VOIDFORM)

If you could take a trip to Azeroth (alternate dimensions, other planets, etc all included) and see one place, where would you visit and why? For the purposes of reality, you’re not a level 1 peasant but you’re not really an end game raider either. You’re gonna be Two-Flowers-ing I suppose, pure tourist with uncommon luck in dangerous situations.

My normal answer for this question is Highmountain, but I have to say the upcoming first zone of The War Within the Isle of Dorn is a Dwarf-lover’s paradise. It’s so gorgeous the only reason I plan on continuing to other zones is to unlock Earthen. After that I may never leave the Isle again!

ARTHONOS WANTS ME TO TURN MY CRYSTAL BALL UPON NINTENDO TWICE

Care to guess what the Switch 2 launch title will be?

Think the Switch can claim the crown of best selling console ever? It has now sold 141 million systems, and is expected to move another 13 million over the holiday season. Considering the DS sold 154 million and the PS2 sold 155 million, and the Switch 2 coming 2025, it could be pretty close.

My guess is there will be three launch titles:

  • Mario Kart 9
  • Donkey Kong World
  • Metroid Prime 4

I’m tempted to predict Metroid Dread 2 but I’m selfishly hoping we get that later this year instead.

As for Switch becoming the best selling console ever, I feel it’s a given. Even after the Switch 2 is released parents will still buy their young kids a cheaper Switch instead to replace the old one they dropped and cracked the screen on. I’m not saying Switch sales are inflated because it’s easier to drop a handheld than a console, but I feel that has to be a factor in its sales totals. Unless Switch production is shutdown entirely in 2025 it’ll continue to sell for a few years especially at the inevitable lower price point.

That’s all the time we have for questions today! Be sure to ask plenty of questions for Matt tomorrow, and be sure to give yourself a moment of rest when you can — even if you don’t think you need it, it’ll help. See you in a fortnight (or in the comments)!
