How to do Blackrock Eruption, WoW Season of Discovery Phase 4’s new event, and the rewards you can earn

Blackrock Eruption is a new level 60 world event introduced in WoW Classic Season of Discovery Phase 4 that will simultaneously occur in the Searing Gorge, Blackrock Mountain, and Burning Steppes areas. This new event thematically and narratively fits in with the arrival of Firelord Ragnaros and the Molten Core raid as well as the full opening of the Blackrock Mountain dungeons. Described as “lightweight” by the Classic team, won’t be as intensive as the previous Blood Moon and Nightmare Incursion open world events and instead of choosing between a PVE or PVP focus, it incorporates factors from both.

Here’s what we know about the event so far, how to complete it, and what you can earn!

When does the event happen and how does it work?

Blackrock Eruption is on a consistent timer with the first event of the day beginning at 12AM and repeating every two hours from the 12AM start time — though right now it appears to be happening an hour earlier on the odd-hours of the clock instead. When the event begins it will last a total of 60 minutes with a countdown timer appearing at the top of your screen with a message saying, “Defend against the minions of Ragnaros!” While active new types of enemies, such as the Firelands Invaders, and hazardous environments, including deadly meteors raining from the sky, will appear across all 3 areas. Even though the event happens at the same time in 3 zones, each zone varies in what you can do while the event is active.

Searing Gorge

If you’re in the Searing Gorge during the event, you’ll get the Eruption buff which prevents you from earning honor from PVP kills. Instead, the Searing Gorge becomes a PVE-centered zone for the duration of the event and a set of level 56-60 daily quests will become available for you at Thorium Point (coordinates 38, 27).

These daily quests are offered by Taskmaster Scrange, Lookout Captain Lolo Longstriker, Hansel Heavyhands, Evonice Sootsmoker, and Master Smith Burninate. All these specific daily quests can only be completed in the Searing Gorge and have simple objectives:

Burning Steppes

Like the Searing Gorge, whenever you’re in the Burning Steppes while Blackrock Eruption is active you’ll earn the same Eruption buff that prevents you from earning honor from PVP kills but it looks like this area is without quests for the moment, though, that could change once Molten Core arrives on July 25.

Blackrock Mountain

Unlike the other two areas, if you’re in any part of the Blackrock Mountain zone during Blackrock Summoning, you’ll receive the Hot Blooded buff which rewards you a +300% honor buff for PVP kills. However, like the Burning Steppes, there doesn’t appear to be any new daily quests you can do here and given Blackrock Mountain is an endgame destination point, it may stay that way to quell any player frustration over getting ganked repeatedly.

Blackrock Eruption event rewards

Completing Blackrock daily quests earns you experience, between 90 silver and 1 gold, 80 silver, and 1-2 Firelands Ember. These dailies are also a good way to earn reputation with the Thorium Brotherhood and the Hydraxian Waterlords, with each quest rewarding you between 150-300 reputation for the Brotherhood and 150-200 for the Waterlords. As you earn reputation levels with each faction, you’ll unlock more rewards from each faction vendor where you can exchange gold/silver for faction specific gear, formulas, and items. However, we don’t know the purpose of the Firelands Ember yet.

The vendor for the Thorium Brotherhood is Lokhtos Darkbargainer who can be found the Grim Guzzler Tavern within the Blackrock Depths dungeon and begins giving you items at the Friendly rank. Duke Hydraxis is the vendor for the Hydraxian Waterlords and can be found on an island (coordinates 79, 73) off the coast of Azshara. In Classic Era, the Duke started selling you items when you reach the Revered rank, though its wares may expand and be offered at earlier ranks in Season of Discovery.

It’s still early in Phase 4 and since this event is in a zone meant for higher level players in and endgame area with corresponding quests and rewards, it’s likely we could see this event and its rewards evolve as the phase continues, especially with Molten Core releasing later this month on July 25. We’ll be updating what we know about this event as the phase goes on!
