Shurrai Atrocity of the Undersea in Hallowfall is this week’s World Boss in The War Within

The War Within Season 1 begins the week of September 10, and with the opening of Nerub-ar Palace also arrives the opportunity to kill a World Boss.  As in Dragonflight and Shadowlands the first tier has four World Bosses on rotation, one in each of the leveling zones and for Hallowfall it will be Shurrai Atrocity of the Undersea — up to kill this week. Fortunately there remain no mechanic drops similar to the older expansion’s Legendary Memories so players won’t have to worry about missing out on something important (besides the chance of loot) if they skip a week. As usual the World Bosses drop items that are ilevel-equivalent to the Normal difficulty of the concurrent raid, although with the more staggered ilevels in Palace it should be noted that World Boss drops are i603, or equivalent to the middle bosses of the raid. They can also be upgraded, starting at Champion 3/8.

Shurrai is essentially a two-phase fight, with the first part of the fight being largely avoiding the briny vomit that is spat out and lingers. Dark Tide will wash away the vomit but does a lot of damage to the player and has a knockback so everyone should avoid them (getting caught in the vomit does not put a semi-permanent debuff on players, it’s only present when standing in the vomit). During the second phase Shurrai will place a big absorb shield on himself and spit out adds that should be killed — preferably at ranged because they damage nearby players when they die — as defeating the adds will also damage Shurrai and assist in removing the absorb shield.

Velhan isn’t the only one claiming the islands north of Mereldar

Shurrai Atrocity of the Undersea will spawn on the westernmost island of Velhan’s Claim almost due north of Mereldar. Like all the other world bosses in The War Within so far Shurrai is very easy to get to, just a short flight away from the Hallowfall capital city. Unfortunately there isn’t a quick trip from Dornogal or the Isle of Dorn like in the other zones so you will need to hoof it down to the zone.

The gear that Shurrai drops matches the normal Palace appearance, so those looking to farm transmog as well as gear upgrades will want to take the time to down the boss. In addition to unlocking the normal look, upgrading from Champion 3/8 to 5/8 will unlock the heroic appearance as well. Unlike the Dragonflight first tier bosses, Shurrai drops two possible armor pieces for every class in addition to a ring that can drop for all characters:

  • Ring is Critical Strike/Mastery, with Mastery being a substantially larger amount
  • Cloth classes can get a Chest that matches the Priest appearance or a Belt that matches the Warlock set
  • Leather classes have a chance at Legs that match the Demon Hunter set or Boots that match the Monk appearance
  • Mail classes can receive a Chest that matches the Hunter appearance or Boots that match the Shaman set
  • Plate classes have a chance at Legs that match the Death Knight set or a Belt that matches the Paladin appearance

As always we should expect defeating Shurrai Atrocity of the Undersea to count as a world quest with possible rewards of gold, Coffer Key shards (used for Delves), and Resonance Crystals.
