What to play this weekend (before WoW’s 20th anniversary event launches)

Hello and happy Friday, Watchers! We are now one week post-Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred launch and on the cusp of WoW’s 20th anniversary event! This was a pretty light week for video game launches, all things considered, but there were some interesting games during Next Fest you should definitely check out if you haven’t yet.

But if nothing from Next Fest catches your eye (or even if it does), here are our recommendations for the week.

Release of the Week: Super Mario Party Jamboree

TLDR: Newest version of popular Nintendo party game

Nintendo is back with another Mario Party game! Promising 22 playable characters, over 110 different minigames, and seven boards (five of which are new), plus online and offline play, this version of Mario Party seems to be the culmination of what fans have been asking for. This year’s version even includes a new single player mode where you’re helping Kamek plan a party. Here’s hoping Nintendo gives us more boards as DLC for this title as time goes on.

Get Super Mario Party Jamboree for $60 on Nintendo Switch.

Release of the Week 2: KILL KNIGHT

TLDR: Top down retro-inspired twin-stick shooter

KILL KNIGHT is a fast paced, top-down shooter like Nuclear Throne or the original Helldivers; yet it stands apart due to its fast paced action and resource management, like the much beloved DOOM Eternal. With four difficulty settings, five “layers” to fight through, challenges to complete to better equip your Knight, and a never-ending arena mode called Sever Mode, KILL KNIGHT looks to be an interesting take on the twin stick shooter genre.

Get KILL KNIGHT for $15 on PC at Steam, Xbox or PlayStation.

Deal of the Week: Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon

TLDR: Mecha shooter in which you can custom build your arsenal, made by FromSoftware

Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon brings back the sometimes frustratingly difficult mech-building third person combat, but this game acts as a reboot to the series. Fires of Rubicon takes place in the far future on the remote planet of Rubicon-3, where you play as pilot C4-621 — a mercenary caught in a war between major corporations. Prepare for each mission by customizing your mech (known as the titular Armored Core), adjusting not only your weapon loadout but also the design itself, allowing for unique ways to tackle the challenges FromSoftware is going to throw your way.

Get Armored Core 6 for $36 on PC at Steam.

Deal of the Week (Part Two): Granblue Fantasy: Relink

TLDR: Action roleplaying game with multiple playable characters, set in Granblue Universe

Perhaps best known in the west because of Granblue Fantasy: VersusRelink is another departure from the traditional roleplaying format that the Granblue universe is known for. While you have a “main” character (Gran, if male; Djeeta, if female) there are 20 additional characters you can swap to play as, each with their own fighting style, personality, and background. Thankfully, Relink has made sure to keep the story mode in bite-sized segments; each chapter is fairly straightforward, giving you a location to do things, a boss to defeat, and then moves the plot along. You can also play this game solo (with the AI controlling your other 3 party members) or online with friends, which is helpful with the game’s Monster Hunter-style quests.

Get Granblue Fantasy: Relink for $36 on PC at Steam.

Now tell us, Watchers — what are you playing this weekend?
