Here Kitty! How to collect the free cat mounts in Diablo 4 Vessel of Hatred
In the first expansion of Diablo 4, Vessel of Hatred, big cat mounts were introduced as an alternative to horses as mounts. If you don’t want to spend real world cash to buy platinum to buy shiny mounts through the in-game store, there are a number of mounts you can earn in game through simply playing it. These have been grouped based on ease of acquisition.
Mounts you may not realize you’ve earned
Reins of the Leucistic Lion — Achievement: Presaging Fate – Complete Presaging Fate during the Vessel of Hatred campaign. By completing the main storyline on any character you will unlock this mount.
Reins of the Dark Leopard — for completing Deeds of a Champion quest chain. These are the assorted priority quests that pop up after completing the main storyline to teach you about all the ongoing features of the game. Even if you have done these activities prior to completing the main storyline, you may need to repeat them to get credit towards this achievement.
Mounts you can earn with minimal effort
Reins of the Nahantu Lioness — Achievement: Maximal Mercenaries – Reach level 10 with each Mercenary. This is a tawny lioness with a model very similar to the panthers.
This achievement requires you to switch which Mercenaries you have assigned as either your Mercenary or Support. If you’re doing mostly grouped content, you will want to ensure you’re frequently rotating different Mercenaries through the Support role. While it doesn’t earn experience as rapidly as the Mercenary slot, the Mercenary is not present when grouped in a party.
Reins of the Leucistic Panther — Purchased from a Stablemaster Vendor tab for 100k gold in game. It’s not hard to earn this much gold in game but you may want to wait until you have a max level character with decent gear before spending this much on a mount.
Reins of the Nahantu Panther — Also purchased from a Stablemaster Vendor tab for 100k gold in game. Again, you may want to wait until you have a max level character with decent gear before spending this much on a mount.
Reins of the Nahantu Leopard — Achievement: Nahantu Legion Master – Complete both Legion Events in Nahantu. The events are located in the sub-zones Viz-jun and Chakhir. The Viz-jun event is located in the large diagonal temple area in the center of the Nahantu map. The Chakhir event is locked behind a stronghold in the northeastern corner of the zone. These events are part of the regular Legion Event rotation and you’ll need to keep an eye out for the right ones to appear. Legion Events happen every 20 minutes.
Reins of the Nahantu Lion — Achievement: Tenet of Akarat Collector – Claim all Tenets of Akarat. The Tenets of Akarat are similar to the Statues of Lilith from release — they are hidden around the zone and require you to solve a simple puzzle to unlock them. This can be done on any difficulty. Note that some Tenets are locked behind quest completions or campaign activities.
Reins of the Green Eyed Devil — Achievement: Nahantu Folk Hero – Complete all Nahantu side quests. Also awards Pride of Nahantu Barding Cat Armor. Very similar to the Dark Leopard but with bright green eyes. This has only been completable in the last week, as one of the quest chains had been bugged since release and didn’t offer the next quest in the chain. There are a number of quests that are tricky to find — either they don’t appear until other unrelated activities have been completed, or they are in out of the way places.
This one will take a bit of perseverance but isn’t hard to complete, and can be completed at any difficulty.
Nahantu Puma — Achievement: Undercity Adept – Complete an Undercity District Run with Maximum Attunement rewards. Kurast Undercity District Runs are a new endgame mode introduced in Vessel of Hatred. This means filling the blue bar to its maximum capacity, which you are likely to be doing anyway as doing so grants better rewards for the run.
Nahantu Cheetah — Achievement: Undercity Trailblazer – Use a Unique rarity Tribute to enter the Undercity, then complete the District Run with Maximum Attunement rewards. Tributes are a type of key that can drop from random in-game events and can allow you to target specific enhanced rewards from the Kurast Undercity end of event chests.
Mounts that will require focused effort to earn
Nahantu Tiger — Achievement: Exceptionally Attuned – Complete an Undercity District Run with Maximum Attunement rewards 50 times. This mount has a tiger model. Screenshots make it look a little bulkier than the leopards — which it should be — but it looks to be the same height.
Reins of the Piebald Panther — Achievement: Supreme Paragon – Reach Paragon Level 300. The model for this is a black panther with light colored irregular patches. I haven’t seen one of these in game yet. Reaching Paragon 300 is the new stretch goal and most players are unlikely to reach it before the mid point in the season, if not the end of season, or on Eternal.
Bonus Mount
Nahantu War-cat — Not exactly free like the rest, but if you purchased the Ultimate Edition of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, it came with this mount, bundled with the other rewards.
Which mounts have you already collected? Which ones are you aiming for next? What types of mounts would you like to see them introduce next?
