The War Within Season 2 will add two new Delves, extend Brann Bronzebeard’s contract
During the World of Warcraft segment of this week’s Warcraft 30th Anniversary Direct we got a short rundown of changes coming in Delves in Season 2. While there weren’t a ton of details, we can make some educated guesses about what our spelunking adventures will entail as we explore the goblin capital of Undermine.
There will be two new Delves launching in patch 11.1, as well as “variants” on existing Delves. Given that the word “variant” is used in-game to refer to the 3-4 different stories and casts of characters found within each Delve at launch, we can likely expect some of the Delves of the first four zones of Khaz Algar to get a goblin-themed story chapter. Perhaps we will see some of the conflict between the four Undermine factions bleeding over into places like the Isle of Dorn or Hallowfall.
One surprising part of the livestream was the lack of an announcement of who our Delve companion would be for Season 2. We’ve been treasure hunting with Brann Bronzebeard for nearly three months now, and in the lead up to The War Within we were assured a new sidekick for each season. Instead, we heard about “seasonal updates” for Brann as well as new goblin-inspired curios that he’ll be able to equip. It’s certainly disappointing for those of us who were excited for a lesser-known NPC to get some limelight.
With Zek’vir vanquished in the Season 1 Delving finale, we’ll also be getting a new adversary. Might this be Xal’atath’s newest lieutenant, or even an up-and-coming goblin antagonist? While it wasn’t included in the livestream, it’s likely that we will have an update to the Delver’s Journey reward track in Season 2, including some new cosmetics — I’m hoping for a steady stream of Dirigible schematics.
While we know a bit more about the future of Delves in this expansion, there is plenty that we don’t know yet. It seems logical that the tier system will adjust its difficulty to factor in new and better Season 2 gear, rather than adding new tiers above 11. Will we get another meta achievement? When we finally arrive in Undermine, the new Delves will be one of the first features that I’ll be investigating.
