How to obtain the Lunar Launcher mount and rocket around Khaz Algar in style during the Lunar Festival

There is a new rocket mount available during this year’s Lunar Festival in World of Warcraft, and all it takes to earn is a whirlwind tour of Azeroth. The Lunar Festival is a time when the wise folk of previous generations appear in spirit form and offer polite conversation. The event is going on now, and you’ve got until February 11th to honor the ancestors and claim your explosive ride.
The Lunar Launcher mount itself is amazing — bright colors that pop, a ferocious-looking dragon head, and even a lit fuse just behind the pilot’s seat. I would do just about anything to add this to my collection, which turns out to be important as the requirement is to exhaustively travel all over the planet and click on people. Elders are scattered across Kalimdor, the Eastern Kingdoms, Northrend, the Dragon Isles, and Khaz Algar. Visiting each elder and speaking with them awards one Coin of Ancestry.
The good news is that each elder’s quest completes with a single interaction. The bad news is that you’ll need to collect 75 Coins of Ancestry to purchase this year’s mount. That means that 99% of your time requirement for earning the mount (or any of the rest of the cornucopia of event rewards) is flying to the next elder.
Your first step should be to check your bank on all of your characters. Coins of Ancestry are soulbound but don’t disappear at the end of the Lunar Festival like many other event currencies. This means that you may have a few dozen stashed away from previous years.
Other than visiting elders, there is just one other way to earn Coins of Ancestry. Myrael Lunarbloom in Moonglade offers the Lunar Preservation quest that rewards 25 coins — fully one third of the price of the Lunar Launcher. To complete it you’ll need to…fly all over Azeroth and click on moonwells. The event is nothing if not consistent. Monotony aside, you’ll only need to visit eight locations to complete the quest.
Starting that quest is simple if you know where to go. There are Lunar Festival headquarters in Orgrimmar (by the flight master) and Stormwind (outside the front gate). After a quick introductory firework-shooting session, you can earn a scroll that will teleport you right to Moonglade. Myrael is near the easternmost bridge of Nighthaven, the only town in Moonglade.
To collect the remainder of the 75 coins, you’ll just need to go out and do some leg work. The eight elders added to the zones of The War Within are new this year, so if you’re an achievement hunter then you can chat with them all to earn Elders of Khaz Algar. There are addons you can download to make the process of locating each elder just a little less annoying,
So saddle up your favorite mount, dust off your Skyriding skills, pop whatever show you’re streaming onto a second screen, and start farming those coins. And if you find yourself enjoying a nice, relaxing aerial tour of Azeroth, you can switch characters and continue coin collecting to buy pets, toys, transmog, and more.
