Need a newly released game this weekend? We’ve got two massive titles, an indie title, and maybe some freebies for you

This week was a big release week in gaming, so we’ve got the top two major titles covered (Avowed and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii), an indie Souls-like that has an old school feel (FlyKnight), and a reminder on some free games you might be missing out on.

What is wrong with your face? Avowed

Obsidian Entertainment has made a lot of really well-loved RPGs over the years (Fallout: New Vegas, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2, Pillars of Eternity 1 and 2) and Avowed seems to be another great addition to their lineup. Taking place in the Pillars of Eternity universe, Avowed has you taking control of a character known as a Godlike — you were touched by a God while in your mother’s womb, and as such were born with facial features marking you as chosen. While this works in your favor, becoming the envoy of the King, it also has left you with some visual abnormalities that freak out people you meet (the first NPC I met asked me “What the [expletive deleted] is wrong with your face!?”). A first person RPG, Avowed is Obsidian’s take on the Elder Scrolls formula, and it handles it quite well.

Oh, and for you Mass Effect fans, one of your companions is voiced by Garrus’s voice actor Brandon Keener (and is basically Blue Garrus). So that’s another point in its favor.

Get Avowed for $70 on Steam or try for free on GamePass.

He’s a what now?: Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii

The Like a Dragon series (formerly known as the Yakuza franchise) is back again, this time putting you in the shoes of fan favorite Goro Majima as he loses his memory and becomes a pirate. In Hawaii. This isn’t a joke, that’s actually the plot of the game. It would appear that Majima woke up on an island in the Pacific without any memory of who he was, and decided that the pirate’s life is for him. Not only do we get some neat ship combat, but the usual Like a Dragon beat-’em-up styles are there.

As always, Majima is an absolute joy, so this should be a really fun romp.

RuneScape meets Dark Souls: FlyKnight

FlyKnight is a weird little title that I wanted to get more eyes on. It was created as part of a Game Jam project, as a way to take some pressure off working on the developer’s main title, Sorceress. Yet this quirky little title managed to catch the attention of the Souls-like community due to not only its RuneScape-style artwork, but also its very King’s Field feeling combat. FlyKnight has you playing as, well, a fly that’s a knight, of the order of Flyknights, who were assembled to deal with the witch Lunamoth. A first person title like Kings Field, FlyKnight has a unique combat system that sees you targeting enemy limbs in order to gain yourself an advantage in combat. The game itself is fairly short, maybe 3 to 5 hours in length, but the developer wants to create a full length game once Sorceress is finished.

Did I mention that the onion knight armor is literal onion armor with a leek?

Get FlyKnight for $6 on Steam.

Don’t miss out on these possible freebies: Prime Gaming

While we usually showcase different deals around the internet, I wanted to bring to everyone’s attention something they may not know about. If you’re subscribed to Amazon Prime, you should have access to Prime Gaming, which gives away titles across a multitude of platforms (GOG, Epic, Steam, Microsoft) every month. These aren’t no-name indie titles either, as recently they’ve given out The Outer Worlds, Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights, BioShock 2: Remastered and BioShock: Infinite. If you’re already spending money on Amazon Prime, you might as well drop in to Prime Gaming and see if there’s anything that catches your fancy. You also get a free Twitch subscription every month that you can give out at your leisure.

You can check out Prime Gaming at this link.
