This weekend we have knights, more knights, Lovecraftian doctors and living stories as new game releases!

Somehow, it’s Friday again, and that means taking a look at the new gaming releases this week to see if there’s anything worth playing this weekend. Surprise, there is!

We’ve got the team behind It Takes Two bringing us a story of two authors trapped inside their works of fiction (Split Fiction), a Lovecraftian doctor simulator (Do No Harm), we go back in time to fight with other knights in what some might call tight spaces (Knights in Tight Spaces), and get a remake of two classic PlayStation era RPGs (Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster).

Death of the author could be literal: Split Fiction

Split Fiction comes from the creative minds behind It Takes Two, and they’ve managed to knock it out of the park once again! You take the role of Mia and Zoe, writers from different genres (science fiction and fantasy), who get strapped into a machine that was designed to steal their artistic ideas. Our duo will need to learn to work together to get through their respective genres: taming dragons, fighting cyber ninjas, escaping from trolls, you know, the usual. Perhaps the most 0interesting thing about Split Fiction is that it’s a two player co-op game — but even better, so long as you own a copy, you get a Friend’s Pass that you can give to a friend so they can play along with you!

Get Split Fiction for $50 on Steam.

The Hippocratic Oath said nothing about this: Do No Harm

Do No Harm is a title where you take the role of a doctor treating the ills of their patients — the twist being that their patients are Lovecraftian horrors that are locked in a war between Azathoth and Cthulhu. If you are unfamiliar with games like this, patients will come in and give you their symptoms, and it’s up to you and your trusty research books to figure out the best cure for them. Now, it would end here if this was a normal medical simulator, but of course it’s a Lovecraftian medical simulator, so that means any of the entities that come to you for treatment might also come with a side dose of madness. There are 12 different endings to be had, so the real question is: can you survive 30 days in this nightmare, Doctor?

Get Do No Harm for $15 on Steam.

Fighting in small areas: Knights in Tight Spaces

Back in October I recommended Fights in Tight Spaces, a deckbuilding card title where you played as a black and white spy amidst the world of colorful enemies that were unfortunately between you and your goal. This week, Knights in Tight Spaces has released, taking us back to medieval times. This time around, build a party, team up for devastating attacks, but keep in mind that those who wish to join you and get turned away might just end up becoming an obstacle in your path another day. With a more colorful and comic-inspired art style compared to FightsKnights in Tight Spaces is looking to be another great strategy game.

No king rules forever: Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster

Behold, the return of the king! While Final Fantasy may be one of the most popular RPGs out there, KONAMI held the title of PlayStation-era RPG that was a sleeper hit with a small print run (leading to copies of Suikoden 2 going for $200+), but today that changes! Announced five years ago (!), Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars brings a fresh new translation, some quality of life features, and a new coat of paint to a classic title. Unlike the Final Fantasy series where (most of) the titles are not connected, Suikoden titles are all on one long timeline: Suikoden 1 and Suikoden 2 take place only 3 years apart, and there’s quite a bit of crossover between the two titles’ characters. If you’re looking for an absolutely amazing RPG to sink some time into, I cannot suggest Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster any more strongly.

Get Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster for $50 on Steam.
