How to hit Gold on every Breaknecking race in Undermine

Now that we’ve had a chance to wrap our heads around the new D.R.I.V.E. system introduced in World of Warcraft patch 11.1, it’s time to buckle down and get that Undermine Breaknecking achievement under our belts.

Like the Skyrocketing races we covered last month, there are four courses and two difficulties (Normal and Reverse), making a total of eight Breaknecking races in Undermine. To unlock these, you will need to complete the quest No More Walkin’ Here, as described in our previous article about how to D.R.I.V.E. in easy mode. Mastering these races is about more than simply running them a dozen times, so let’s start with a little shopping.

Use the right engine

We’ve briefly discussed the G-99 Breakneck’s customization options in the past. These can be acquired by questing in Undermine (some can also be bought on the Auction House), but the one you’ll need to hit gold on the Undermine Breaknecking races is actually the simplest one to get. It’s called the Pozzik Standard.

To acquire the Pozzik Standard engine for your G-99 Breakneck, simply complete each race on Bronze difficulty, check your mail, and turn in the quest. You must then speak to Mobber in Hovel Hill to access the D.R.I.V.E. customization pane and select this option from the Engine slot.

You will want to leave the other options at default for the most part, but you may also find the 22H Slicks tire option helpful while Drifting.

Drift and over-Drift

Drifting isn’t just convenient when turning sharply–it’s also vital for refilling your Boost meter. That’s why you should always take the opportunity to over-Drift when possible. To over-Drift, you should start your Drift before you reach your turn, and continue to hold it for as long as possible. This may take some practice. I find that aiming for the outside edge of the next ring as I go into a sharp turn is most effective. Also be aware that hitting glowing soda cans on the course will refill your Boost meter.

Once you’ve mastered Drifting, it’s off to the races.

Breakneck Bolt

Located just outside Slam Central Station, the Breakneck Bolt takes you on a grand tour of Undermine–first south through the Vatworks, and then all the way back around to Hovel Hill.

Sandy Scuttle

The Sandy Scuttle will take you past the Gallagio and around the Blackwater Marina. Driving through deep water will dismount you, so make sure you stay on the boardwalk!

Casino Cruise

It’s time to leave skid marks on Gallywix’s front lawn as we blast through the Casino Cruise. This race includes the trickiest turn in all of Undermine, so master your Drifting before you start.

Junkyard Jaunt

The Junkyard Jaunt takes you off-road, through an obstacle-ridden scrapyard and golf course. Keep an eye out for cans, and remember that you don’t have to Drift every turn to make it in time.
