The War Within gets some extra Wednesday maintenance

I have bad news and good news. The bad news is that we have Wednesday morning maintenance for The War Within, which is currently offline. The good news is that it’s a short maintenance, lasting only an hour. Still, it’s really piling on maintenance for modern WoW, which had eight hours of downtime for the patch 11.1.5 rollout last week, followed by a bonus two hour Thursday maintenance, followed by two hour Tuesday maintenance, followed by this one hour Wednesday maintenance. That’s a lot over the past week and a half.

Here’s the maintenance schedule for Wednesday, April 30:

• The War Within: Offline from 7am – 8am pacific (10am – 11am eastern)

Blizzard hasn’t explained why we’re getting these extra maintenances, but the Nightfall event — which I had hopefully thought might perform better after Tuesday’s maintenance — is still buggy. As you’re doing the event, your assigned tasks may vanish or your progress bar may vanish, leaving you with nothing to do to earn event completion except make your best guess or aimlessly kill mobs until it reappears (if it reappears). While the event still works technically — it still tracks your progress even if nothing is showing up on screen — it’s frustrating, and it can be hard to tell what you need to do next (or if the event is even still running).

So now I will pin my hope on today’s maintenance. Perhaps the servers will come back up and the event will run smoothly.  Even though the Flame’s Radiance reputation associated with the event is a slow grind, it has neat cosmetics I’d like to collect, and the event drops piles of great catchup gear for any alt army (which also has unique transmog looks). So whether it’s broken or not, I’m participating in Nightfall. It would just be better if it were a little less buggy.

But it’s also possible maintenance is for something else entirely, and we’ll have to see how things look when they come back online. The War Within servers came back online on time, but Nightfall remains as flaky as it was before. Maybe next maintenance?
