This week’s Epic Games Store free game is Super Space Club

Super Space Club is the chillest space-based arcade gunner game I’ve ever seen, and the Epic Games Store is giving it away for free this week.

As a confirmed Elder Millennial, Super Space Club reminds me a lot of the earlier arcade games I was all about as a kid, especially Asteroids. There’s quite a bit more going on here, but the core — a triangular spaceship shooting lasers and avoiding obstacles — is intact. But what we never had as kids was a near pathologically chill lofi soundtrack to vaporize space rocks to.

I’m excited to see whether I can just run the soundtrack with the game paused — unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be an option to purchase the soundtrack on its own. If there was, I would undoubtedly run it during a Spirit City pomodoro session, because it is definitely a vibe. The gameplay itself reminds me of a less intense Vampire Survivors, and I use that game as an end-of-the-day stress relief game, so I’d guess Super Space Club would perhaps be an even better choice for relaxing while also destroying a whole lot of pixels. Regardless, as usual, free is a price tag I can get behind.
