Study magic, be a fox, and fight against a savage planet this week in games!

It’s May! The birds are singing, the sun is shining, and new video games are releasing. While there haven’t been a lot of major titles the last few weeks, let’s talk about a few that caught my eye! This week, we’re going to take an adventure with a fox and a raven (Spirit of the North 2), get revenge against a savage planet (Revenge of the Savage Planet), and to study some magic and relax (Ithya: Magic Studies). We’ll also touch on a favorite of mine that’s on sale (Dark Souls 3).

The Fox and the Raven: Spirit of the North 2

Spirit of the North was a 2020 adventure title seeing you play as a red fox whose life gets wrapped around with the guardian of the Northern Lights, a magical spirit fox. From there the adventure took place, and gave a beautiful look at Nordic folklore — and an emotional one at that, for a game with no dialogue. Well, it’s 2025, and we’re once again in the body of a fox looking at a long-forgotten ancient world; this time, though, we have a raven as a companion! Some “back of the box” highlights for Spirit of the North 2 is customization options for your fox character: multiple eye and fur options, allowing you to customize your main character.

Much like the first game, Spirit of the North 2 has no dialogue. Instead, use the surroundings to figure out puzzles, and just enjoy the vibes.

Get Spirit of the North 2 for $25.50 on Steam.

Revenge! of the Savage Planet: Revenge of the Savage Planet

Journey to the Savage Planet was one of my favorite silly games of 2021; you played as a new recruit of Kindred Aerospace (the 4th best interstellar exploration company), sent to the play ARY-26 to see if the world was fit for humans to live on. Of course, Kindred Aerospace isn’t exactly the best (4th!), and the job may not be all its cracked up to be. That said, the sequel — Revenge of the Savage Planet — has you being abandoned on the edge of space and forces you to survive on your own. While Journey was a first person shooter, Revenge has switched to a third person view, but chunks of the gameplay still remain the same: you still fight aliens, take samples, collect rocks, and decorate your base with things you find.

I should note that at the time of this writing, the keybinds cannot currently be rebound. This was an issue in Journey as well, and was fixed in a patch early on. Hopefully we’ll see that happen here too.

Get Revenge of the Savage Planet for $40 on Steam (or play it for free on GamePass).

Magic and Chill: Ithya: Magic Studies

I’ve said it before: cozy, chill games aren’t usually my thing, but sometimes one will stick out to me. Ithya was created by YouTube sensation Blue Turtle, known for their lofi music to relax to — and this game is certainly that. Using the art style that Blue Turtle has become so well known for, Ithya has you exploring a world full of hand-drawn scenes, personalizing your room, and setting task lists and timers to help you in your actual, real life. Of course, this is all set to Blue Turtle’s amazing soundtracks, so it’s a great package for just chilling out and trying to find the right vibe.

Get Ithya: Magic Studies for $10 on Steam.

The Fire Fades: Dark Souls 3

Dark Souls 3 is a great Dark Souls title, and probably the most “balanced” of the mainline Souls games — and it just so happens to be on sale this week! While you could pick up Dark Souls: Remastered (for $20 on Steam), Dark Souls 3 has a better combat system, a more interesting world, and is just an amazing game in its own right. You play as the Ashen One, the unnamed protagonist who failed to link the First Flame and died, only to be risen an untold number of years later and is tasked to defeat the Lords of Cinder. In general, this means you decide how to build your character, fight through swamps, forests, castles and caves, defeat bosses, craft weapons, and then make a decision that determines the future state of the Dark Souls game world. For an additional $12.50, grab the Season Pass to access the Ashes of Ariandel and Ringed City DLCs, which have much harder and more challenging bosses for those who need more to do at the end game.

Get Dark Souls 3 for $30 on Steam.
