The Queue: Zergling Mom

Do you think that Kerrigan would have a bunch of I’m a Pet Mom style shirts, but for all of her different Zerg spawn? Or would she just have one for her favorite Zergling and call it a day? Do you think they’d all get her a gift, or is it more of a we all pitched in and got you this situation?

These are the Mom questions of the StarCraft universe.

While I ponder these, it’s time for — The Queue!

DON’T CALL IT A COMEBACK, XERIANNE’S BEEN HERE FOR YEARS

If you had to choose would you Sing or Dance in front of an audience?

I’d sing in front of an audience, I’ve done that before! It was just karaoke, but still!

I feel bad for the audience, though, I’m not what you would call great at staying on key. I still try, though!

The first ever song I sang at karaoke was Land Down Under by Men at Work, and I don’t remember what the last one was, but it might’ve been a duet of Bring Me to Life by Evanescence where we traded the heavy part at every chorus.

On the other hand, I’m not a great dancer, so doing that for a big audience isn’t sounding appealing.

I’M ROCKIN’ MY PEERS, PUTTIN’ ARTHONOS IN FEAR MAKIN’ THE TEARS RAIN DOWN LIKE A MONSOON

Which of the 20 cannoli featured here would you like best?

I can’t choose! How dare you show me my one weakness, food!

Ok, I can choose, I think I’d lean towards the Limoncello one first. I love a nice crisp lemon flavor. After that, the Chocolate Mousse and Peanut Butter ones are probably my second and third choices. I’m a sucker for peanut butter flavored things, and chocolate mousse is just extra fancy chocolate!

There aren’t any there I wouldn’t try. However, I’m sure there are some hard-line Italian Nonnas who are shuddering at the thought of a blueberry cannoli.

RED GONNA KNOCK YOU OUT (HUUH) MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT (HUUH)

Q4TQ: you’re playing a game, and you’re really enjoying the mechanics, the characters, the story. You’re engrossed, you want to know what’s going on, and the mechanics are refreshing and interesting.

However, boss fights are hard and frustrating. You didn’t exactly sign up to play a Soulslike, but the boss experience is somewhat akin to that. Your frustration with those moments is getting high enough that you’ve even considered dropping the game.

At the same time, the game DOES offer a way out of all of that frustration: you could simply lower the difficulty level. The “story” difficulty is low enough that you would breeze through every encounter.

…but you don’t want that either. You want to play the game as it was “intended” to be played. The problem is that the gap between the two difficulties is too wide, so playing on Story would feel bad for you. You wouldn’t get any satisfaction from playing the game on autopilot. You want to overcome the challenges as they were intended. You’re now getting frustrated at this situation itself.

What do you do?

That’s a tough one. I also know your pain all to well, the Soulslike parry/dodge gameplay has stopped me from properly enjoying a few games that I wanted to really like. Sadly for me that usually just results in me not playing them any more, so I don’t have any deeper advice to give you here.

If (and I’m just guessing here, but) the story in Expedition 33 is really hitting your buttons and you feel like you absolutely must finish it at current difficulty, then maybe it’s time to look into gearing/ability/character strategies for being the most overpowered Expeditioner you can be. You won’t be playing on a lower difficulty, but if you are using the most broken wombo combo of things to trivialize any encounter maybe that can see you through to the finish line.

DON’T YOU CALL THIS A REGULAR JAM KALCHEUS GONNA ROCK THIS LAND

What’s your least favorite spec to play in WoW?

I’ve tried to do Rogue a couple of times, it’s never stuck. I can barely play Feral Druid! I just don’t like the Combo Point style of gameplay. I’ve also never played a non-Beastmaster Hunter or an Arcane Mage. My Warlock has always been Demonology, and my Mages are always Fire. Warriors and Monks are only for tanking, and Priests are for pressing Mind Flay and other Shadow-y things. Evokers are a late addition, but they’re only for damage. Death Knights are for Frost, but I only really played tank Frost back in the day, and now my Death Knight sits around with bags full of plate gear to eventually learn the transmogs of. I loved my Enhance Shaman, and only made an Elemental spec for one Challenge Mode dungeon back in the day. I can do Healing or Damage on my Paladin, but I’ve never tanked once with her. I was pretty good with both Demon Hunter specs too, good enough for the Mage Tower anyway.

So y’know, all of the above are my favorite specs, anything that hasn’t made the cut can be inserted as my least favorite spec at any given moment.

LEFTY GOING INSANE STARTIN’ A HURRICANE, RELEASIN’ PAIN LETTIN’ YOU KNOW, YOU CAN’T GAIN OR MAINTAIN UNLESS YOU SAY MY NAME

What is your favorite “bonus” zone so far, e.g Timeless Isle, Isle of Thunder, Mechagon?

Isle of Thunder.

Once I started thinking about them, it was the obvious choice! It has the amazing Lorewalker Cho poem trailer, and it has the Throne of Thunder raid. Both are huge points in its favor. Throne of Thunder was an excellent raid! All of the fights felt pretty unique from each other — no Tomb of Soakgaras on that island. Lei Shen was a tough encounter that relied on execution instead of randomness, and that was the height of tanks being silly and taking as much damage as we could so that we could do more damage. I remember popping so many cooldowns to survive the Decaptation so that I could charge back in and Maul him so good. Plus the original Ra-Den fight, which my guild got the “Realm First!” kill of!! We might’ve done it in Heroic Siege of Orgrimmar gear, but I’m still counting it!

The Isle itself was fine too, I like hanging out with Zandalari, and dinosaurs, and Mogu. I also liked the Treasure Room of Lei Shen, even if I wasn’t very good at it.

Bacardi has gotten bored of giving me Diablo luck, which is bad for my poor Druid and good for people with Warcraft vaults that need stuffing. In fairness, I did just have a good run of Diablo luck so I could afford to splash some of that around. My loss is your gain!
