What’s new in the Midsummer Fire Festival for 2025?

If you’re anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere right now, it’s probably scorching hot where you are. Why not beat the heat by staying inside, playing a little World of Warcraft, and… playing with fire? Okay, I lost the plot a little — but the point is that it’s the Midsummer Fire Festival again in game, and continuing their trend of adding new items and quests to in-game holidays, Blizzard has announced new items and events for the Midsummer Fire Festival in 2025.
For achievement hunters, four new fires have been added — one for each zone in The War Within, minus Undermine — and honoring them all will earn you the Flame Keeper of Khaz Algar or Flame Warden of Khaz Algar achievement, depending on faction. Blizzard’s post also mentions an Extinguishing Khaz Algar achievement, but that seems to be a mistake; all the bonfires in Khaz Algar are neutral, so you’ll only be honoring, not desecrating, these fires.
If you’re looking for something new to spend your Burning Blossoms on, you’re in lucky — three new items have been added that add exciting new looks for fire-loving transmoggers. Best of all, these items are cosmetic, so you can transmog them no matter what your armor type is. You’ll need 350 Blossoms apiece for the Grand Helm of the Fire Festival and the Grand Mantle of the Fire Festival, but a much more affordable 150 Blossoms for the Grand Belt of the Fire Festival. These can be purchased from any Midsummer Merchant for the Horde, or Midsummer Supplier for the Alliance.
Finally, just in case you’re not tired of farming for items like the Frostscythe of Lord Ahune, you’ll find new drops from the Frost Lord this year. While most of his drops merely have a higher chance of dropping on the first kill of the dy, these new items can only drop on your first kill of Lord Ahune each day, so don’t wear yourself out running alt after alt through the meat grinder of holiday queues. If you get lucky, though, you might find:
- Crown of the Frost Lord
- Rethfuras, Scorched Stave of Cinders
- Rethfuras, Scorched Scythe of Cinders
- Glazfuris, Spire of the Deep Chill
- Glazfuris, Scythe of the Deep Chill
All of Ahune’s old rewards are still in his loot pool, too, so if you didn’t get your Frostscythe or your Ice Chip, don’t worry — they didn’t go away, there are just even more fun options that could drop now. What better way to chill out and beat the heat than smacking an ice elemental for some hot new looks?
