Top gaming sale picks for this holiday weekend!

It’s the 4th of July weekend, so there’s going to be fireworks and explosions and food aplenty for our American friends — but that also means that it’s a long weekend for some, with free time to fill. Last week we covered 10 games under $10 from the Steam Summer Sale, but this week I want to give you some of my top suggestions for games on sale in general. I tried to keep everything with a discount of 50% or greater, but even that was a challenge as there’s a ton of amazing games for sale right now.

Zelda nostalgia trip: TUNIC

TUNIC is such a neat game for those of us who are old grew up playing the original The Legend of Zelda and remember the feeling of wandering around lost, trying to make sense of cryptic clues that were meant to lead us to the next objective, while being amazed at the world around us. In TUNIC you play as a fox who has been stranded in this strange land, looking for an amazing treasure. Honestly, the less I tell you about the story the better — you will need your thinking cap for this one!

Get TUNIC for $15 (50% off!) on Steam.

Metroidvania Persia: Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Prince of Persia as a series has been many things: a 2D action puzzler, a 3D high thrills action game — we won’t talk about the early 2000s emo phase — and a roguelike. However, having it be announced as a new metroidvania was something that I didn’t expect and initially I was skeptical about.  Yet I downloaded the demo, played through it, and instantly bought the game — and I’ll be honest, it was one of my top games of 2024. You play as Sargon, a member of The Immortals, who has set off to Mount Qaf to rescue the kidnapped Prince Ghassan; however not all is as it seems. Use your time powers to navigate the world, defeat bosses, and unravel the mystery within.

Don’t forget to grab the deluxe edition so you get the DLC.

Get Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown for $20 (60% off!) on Steam.

Does what a spider can: Marvel’s Spider-Man

I’m not sure that Spider-Man needs any introduction — he’s the most popular Marvel superhero who has had multiple video games, movies, and at least one odd Japanese TV show. Insomniac Games (known for their Ratchet and Clank series) took the lead on this title and brought us perhaps the best Spider-Man game to date. You play as Peter Parker, who has been doing the superhero thing for the past eight years and has already made a name for himself. He’s also trying to balance his work life (working for Otto Octavius), his personal life (his relationship with Mary Jane), and his need to save the city. Swinging around New York City has never felt so good, and there are a few boss encounters in this game that need to be seen to be believed.

Get Marvel’s Spider-Man for $30 (50% off!) on Steam.

Bonus Sale: Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart

Speaking of Insomniac Games, Ratchet and Clank is a series of action platformers that have been funny, bright and colorful since the days of the Playstation 2. Haven’t played the old games? That’s OK — neither did I. Rift Apart begins after the events of the previous games, with Ratchet being held up as the hero for the events that took place then — but of course this celebration is short lived as Dr. Nefarious attacks, and Ratchet accidentally fires off the Dimensionator weapon which rips open a portal to another dimension dragging everyone within. Thus, we are now in an alternate universe adventure, so your lack of knowledge of the series is no longer an issue. You’ll play as Ratchet and his partner Clank as you explore the other universe, hoping to stop Dr. Nefarious… but at the same time, you will encounter a female Lombax named Rivet, and her robot partner Kit (who will become your other playable duo) which means that the Lombax race isn’t as gone as we thought.

Get Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart for $30 (50% off!) on Steam.
