10 games for under $10 during the Steam Summer Sale

This week we’re looking at the massive Steam Summer Sale — and I’m going to give you 10 games that are awesome under $10! While some of these titles are older, these are ten titles that I think are a steal for this price and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. To try to give you more titles this week, descriptions will be a little more bare bones, so please see the Steam page for more information if they strike your fancy.
Islets (Metroidvania)
Islets is a wholesome Metroidvania experience. You play as Iko on a quest to reunite the floating islands and with it, the people around him. For each island that you reunite, the world map expands and new secrets can be found.
Get Islets for $9 on Steam.
Noita (Wizard Roguelike)
Ever wanted to be a wizard and craft your own spells? Noita is the game for you! Physics are simulated in this game on a per-pixel basis, so don’t be surprised when you light the arena on fire and it has a cascading effect that destroys everything around you. It’s the best.
Get Noita for $8 on Steam.
Monster Train (Card Battler / Roguelike)
Hell has literally frozen over, and you must battle the forces of Heaven to restore the flames. Pick a monster clan (of five total), build a deck, upgrade cards, and enjoy one of the coolest card battlers on Steam.
Get Monster Train for $7.50 on Steam.
Supraland (First Person Metroidvania)
Considered a mix between Zelda, Portal, and Metroid, Supraland is a surprisingly fun and charming first person Metroidvania that is far more focused on exploration and puzzles than it’s concerned with combat — though there’s certainly still combat. An amazingly charming title, I highly recommend this one if you like the genre.
Get Supraland for $4 on Steam.
Terraria (Crafting/Survival/Open World)
Are you a fan of Minecraft? Terraria is what happens when you take Minecraft and make it 2D, adding in multiple bosses, classes, and world changing events. I played an absolute ton of this at launch, and even now — 14 years later — we’re still getting updates. If you own this and you haven’t played it in years (like me), give it another go with the Thorium mod as well.
Get Terraria for $5 on Steam.
Hollow Knight (Metroidvania/Semi-Soulslike)
Banpanada! Hollow Knight may need no introduction, but it’s the Metroidvania with Soulslike elements that took the gaming world by storm in 2017. With a sequel coming… eventually (supposedly this year)… now’s a great time to give it a shot if you haven’t yet. Be warned: this is one of the hardest Metroidvanias I have played (as you drop your currency on death), but it’s an amazing ride.
Get Hollow Knight for $7.50 on Steam.
Slay the Spire (Card Battle/Roguelike)
The “other half” of epic card battlers, Slay the Spire also has you picking a character, building a deck, and taking on weird creatures! Our own Phil Ulrich had this to say about it: “This game’s “one more round” powers are dangerous. Beware, if you need to keep a regular sleep schedule.” Well put.
Get Slay the Spire for $6.25 on Steam.
Minishoot Adventures (Metroidvania/Twin-Stick Shooter)
Part twin-stick shooter, part Metroidvania, Minishoot Adventures has your village destroyed, your friends trapped inside a corrupted crystal, and only you and your spaceship can save them! Not only is the game great looking, it taps that Zelda 1 nostalgia, but is also super fun to play as well. There’s a ton of accessibility options as well, so don’t let the fact that it’s technically a twin-stick shooter stop you from enjoying the ride.
Get Minishoot Adventures for $9.75 on Steam.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy (Third Person Action)
Marvel’s video game take on Guardians of the Galaxy initially fell flat on launch, but it was one of my favorite games from a story perspective. If you like the characters in Guardians, you’ll really enjoy this title. A word of advice: play this game on easy — the combat is just okay, but the story more than makes up for it. Oh, and you’ll get used to their video game appearances not looking like the actors — I promise!
Get Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy for $6 on Steam.
Celeste (Platformer)
Sometimes there’s a game where everything is just perfect: the platforming, the level design, the emotional core, everything. That’s Celeste. It can be hard, but it’s always fair, and the game is not only beautiful but also touching. You wouldn’t expect such a touching story from a platformer, but here we are. I’m not crying, you’re crying.
Get Celeste for $5 on Steam.
