Which old World of Warcraft raid feature annoys you the most?

July is in our rear-view mirrors as we set our sights on the purple deserts of K’aresh, which means we can take a well-earned breather from chain-farming old raids with the Collector’s Bounty buff. The boost to mount drop chances and double the transmog loot was enough to entice me into some of my least favorite old raids to run. But which old unskippable mechanic is the most annoying?

Backtracking is one that’s pretty bearable. If you’re listening to or watching something while you plunder instances form expansions past, you can autopilot your way past the corpses of severely outclassed trash without much of a headache. Still, it’s quite annoying to have to run a whole mile to, say, reach the lair of Ragnaros in Molten Core or get back on track in the Black Temple after slaying Teron Gorefiend.

Unskippable dialogue is fairly rare in legacy raids, but there are a few very egregious offenders. Even with the new updates that streamline it on several difficulties, I always dread spending what seems like ten minutes atop Wyrmest Temple in Dragon Soul listening to the Aspects debate a course of action as if they’re having a tough time deciding on a take-out restaurant.

Some old mechanics like waves of trash may have caused fast-paced chaos when they were encountered by a full raid of players but now result in me riding a ground mount around a very large area of Mt. Hyjal in order to find the last pesky infernal. It’s eleven feet tall, how is it hiding from me so well?

Other fights become RNG nightmares or tedious unforgiving marathons when attempted solo. I’ve complained about the Karazhan Chess Event enough times that I got a free t-shirt. If you’ve ever been yeeted off of Deathwing’s Spine with the final tendon vulnerable because you sneezed, then you know what I’m talking about.

Finally, there’s the sleeper candidate in elevators. There’s nothing worse than letting your attention wander after killing Lady Deathwhisper in Icecrown Citadel, only to look back just in time to see the elevator ascend without you. Don’t get me started on Serpentshrine Cavern, which inexplicably starts with a double-elevator encounter that results in my death more often than a bad LFR group.

Despite all of these flavors of annoying encounters or mechanics, the vast majority of legacy raid bosses can be vanquished and looted without slowing down. Even though I did not manage to acquire my most-desired Collector’s Bounty prize, I added enough transmog looks to my wardrobe to make these facepalming moments bearable. So what old feature annoyed you the most while you spent July seeking vintage treasures?
