Trails in the Sky: First Chapter is just one of four new titles we’re highlighting this week
We’ve hit the apex of the week again — it’s Friday — so let’s look at some new titles to get us through the weekend, shall we? We’ve got a remake of an RPG darling (Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter), a remake of a puzzle classic (Puzzle Quest: Immortal Collection), a new zombie title in the Dying Light franchise (Dying Light: The Beast), and last but certainly not least, a really cool puzzle game with great atmosphere (Strange Antiquities).
“Time for ul-tra-vi-o-lence.”: Trails in the Sky: 1st Chapter
Trails in the Sky was originally launched as The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (FC) when it hit PC back in 2014, marking the first English entry to The Legend of Heroes franchise which has gone on now to encompass 21 titles as of last year. Nihon Falcom has gone back to remake this title using the engine the newer games are running on and it looks absolutely fantastic, sporting a beautiful cel-shaded anime style that truly fits the series. You play as Estelle and Joshua, members of a peacekeeping guild that quickly find themselves quite a bit over their heads. Hop into this extraordinary RPG series with this new* title.

RPG? in my match 3?: Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition
Puzzle Quest initially came out in 2007 with Challenge of the Warlords, an RPG-inspired version of the Bejeweled-style Match 3 genre. In this initial title, you picked a character who was a specific class, and you would do quests and match specific colors on the board to cast spells or use abilities. While the series has jumped around quite a bit (the lackluster Galactrix space version, various reskinned outings for things like Marvel, etc.) the fans have been asking for an official return to form — and Immortal Edition is the answer to that. Puzzle Quest: Immortal Edition contains Challenge of the Warlords, the second expansion Revenge of the Plague Lord, and the third expansion The Legend Returns along with some additional new content, all with a fresh coat of paint. If nothing else, for the cost of a McDonald’s “value” meal, you could have hours of gaming at your fingertips.

Inside you there are two zombies: Dying Light: The Beast
Dying Light is a first person zombie series where you typically play fighting against the horde of undead. However, in The Beast, you’ve been the unfortunate soul on the tail end of experimentation and thus there are two beings fighting for control of your body: your humanity, and the zombie beating deep inside of you. Of course, you have a brain and thus are tasty to other zombies, and you thirst… for REVENGE! Parkour, melee, tear off limbs and ragdoll the undead (and likely some living too) as you struggle to determine whether you remain human — or let the beast take over.

Occult Pun: Strange Antiquities
I’m going to be 100% transparent: I brought up to a buddy this morning that I was writing this article and couldn’t think of a fourth game, and he fired this my way — and I am so glad that he did. Strange Antiquities is apparently the second title in a series of games by studio Bad Viking (the original title being Strange Horticulture) where you act as an Apprentice Thaumaturge at a shop that deals with, shall we say, strange antiquities (see what I did there?). You’ll be brought in strange items of the occult by the townsfolk who need assistance with all sorts of tasks, from the benign to the spooky. At times you’ll need to leave the safety of the shop to hunt down these occult objects on your own, so make certain that you are ready for whatever may come. Sometimes, you need to worry that you might let out an ancient, evil spirit. Other times? There’s a cat to be pet (you can pet the cat).
