Games Done Queer is a new speedrunning event from the Games Done Quick team which runs from October 31 through November 2

Games Done Quick is one of our favorite events (check out our previous coverage) and they’ve added a new weekend event: Games Done Queer, a celebration of the Queer and LGBTQIA+ Speedrunning community. The event kicks off on Friday October 31 at 1pm ET and runs through Sunday November 2, and will benefit the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund. You’ll be able to watch the entire show live on Twitch, or catch events later on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel. And even though the event is over, there’s a lot to enjoy watching these speedrunners with the entire event now posted on YouTube.

As this is its first installment, Games Done Queer will be smaller in scope than Awesome or Summer Games Done Quick but there are still 30+ events to enjoy. We encourage you to check out the full schedule but here are some of the streams we’ll be watching. Runs below are listed in eastern time, but it’s important to note that times will change regularly as each run finishes!

October 31

Transistor — Any % PC by meemee (2:24 p.m.)

Before Supergiant took the roguelite world by storm with Hades and Hades II they were known for their action RPGs like Transistor and Bastion. Both of these titles are great candidates for speedrunning as they’re frenetic and hyperkinetic, but the sci-fi themed Transistor has some stunning visuals — although how long we’ll have to enjoy them depends on how fast the run goes!

November 1

Elite Beat Agents — Showcase Nintendo 3DS by Motoss (5:45 p.m.)

Elite Beat Agents is one of my absolute favorite games of all time and the title I frequently cite when asked what gaming sequel I most want. EBA arrived before franchises like Guitar Hero and Rock Band took off so all the songs are cover, but it’s still a fun rhythm game that worked perfect on the 3DS. I’m not sure how it works in a speedrunning context but I’m excited to find out.

November 2

Metroid Dread — Any% – No Major Glitches Switch by jayena (9:15 p.m.)

This is a bit of a “homer” pick for me because I absolutely love Metroid Dread and a Switch 2 exclusive sequel would get me to buy the console. Metroid Dread is a popular speedrunning choice as a 2D metroidvania but I never get tired of watching it so I’ll be tuning in.

To watch any of these runs, just tune into GDQ on Twitch at the appropriate time (check the schedule for updates as the weekend progresses!), or catch events after the fact on GDQ’s YouTube channel.
