How to participate in Endeavors in your Player Housing Neighborhood

Endeavors, community-wide events in our Neighborhoods, are a key feature of Player Housing, but they only went live with the Midnight pre-patch. Initially we thought these would be held back until the official launch of Midnight, but Blizzard surprised us all by announcing that would become available with the pre-patch — and the first Endeavors are live right now!

Every Endeavor has its own theme, and you might find Dracthyr craftsmen or Niffen beekeepers in your neighborhood, offering you quests (and rewards). Each Endeavor comes with theme-appropriate activities and a vendor that sells related decor, which you buy with Community Coupons earned in Endeavors. Prices for this decor vary between 2 and 30 coupons per item, and you can buy as many items you can afford, with no limits on purchases of individual items.

Because of these

How do you pick an Endeavor? Unless you manage a guild or charter neighborhood, you won’t choose the Endeavor yourself. For Public Neighborhoods, the Endeavor will be randomly assigned. In Charter and Guild Neighborhoods, the neighborhood manager or guild leader will be offered three themes to choose from, and they can select one.

Which Endeavors can I participate in? Though you probably can’t pick the Endeavor in your neighborhood, you can participate in Endeavors for both your Alliance and Horde neighborhood (if you have a house in both). It’s likely — but not guaranteed — that they will have different themes.

How can I choose which Endeavor to work towards? While you have access to one Endeavor for each neighborhood you are in, you can only participate in one Endeavor at a time, as your “active” Endeavor. To change your active Endeavor, open the housing dashboard (default hotkey H) and choose which house you wish to have active from the drop down menu in the upper right of the Endeavors tab, then select “Set As Active Endeavor.” You will be given a new list of activities related to the theme of the Endeavor in the neighborhood the house is located in, and any House XP earned will be applied to that house only.

How long will Endeavors last? We expect them to be more or less monthly, but we don’t yet know exactly how long each Endeavor will be active on. Blizzard has discussed them as monthly events, but on beta Endeavors had a duration between 50 and 110 days, while on live realms they have a duration of 40 days. We expect that each Endeavor will last at least one full month.

What activities are available in Endeavors? Similar to the Traveler’s Log activities that you do to earn rewards in the Trading Post, Endeavors will present you with a series of tasks across all types of content. You might have to “be a good neighbor” by petting the local dogs, or you might have to kill a raid boss or do world quests. No matter what type of content you prefer, there should be activities available to you. Completing these activities grant two types of rewards: personal rewards that give you housing XP and Community Coupons, and communal rewards which your Neighborhood’s favor with your current visitors. Neighborhood favor is shown as a progress bar which we expect will reset each time the visitors come to town. Most of the purchasable Decor rewards have a minimum favor milestone requirement in order to purchase them, and the whole Neighborhood will have to work together to unlock these rewards.

Where can I find the list of Endeavor activities? You can access the list of available activities through the housing dashboard, either via the House button in the micro menu, or via a keybind — the default binding is H. Every Endeavor should offer a variety of activities based both on the current Endeavor theme, as well as more general activities you’re likely to be engaging in as part of your regular gameplay loop, such as delves, dungeons, PVP, gathering, etc.

Can I complete Endeavors on my own? There are many activities available, and some can be easily soloed. But some activities are designed to require a group (or be difficult without one). There are also bonus rewards for completing activities with a party including three or more people from your Neighborhood. These could include dungeon and raid content, or tackling elites and rares in the open world. Sometimes such things can be completed solo, but may take more time and patience.

How often can I do Endeavor activities? Some activities are designed to be repeatable, with diminishing returns on the rewards.

Is there anything else to do during an Endeavor? In addition to the Endeavor Log activities, quests will be handed out by the Endeavor Visitors in your neighborhood, asking you to do all sorts of activities, like gathering fruits and vegetables, finding lost animals, searching for phased out objects, and other chores around your neighborhood.

How much favor can I earn by doing activities? Blizzard recently refactored the amount of favor granted per activity, making it slower to fill the Endeavor progress bar, and you may not even notice it move by doing just one activity. It’s designed to be completed by the whole neighborhood, so expect progress to take time. Fortunately Blizzard has also confirmed that you will still earn individual rewards from the activities even after the favor bar has been filled, so even if your Neighborhood rushes to finish the Endeavor immediately, you can still earn house XP and Community Coupons.

What do I get for maxing out favor in an Endeavor? On beta, once the Neighborhood Favor bar was filled, there was a Neighborhood-wide reward chest located next to the Community Notice Board, but we don’t know what rewards these chests will contain. (We’ll update this post when we find out.)

It’s great to see Endeavors finally in the game. While players have been painstakingly leveling their houses by collecting decor, Endeavors are intended to be the primary method for earning house XP. The grind of earning 10xp per unique decor item acquired is positively glacial compared to the 10 to 50xp you can earn by completing a single activity (and repeating it).  If you’re looking to get that Medium-sized exterior, or the Hearthlight Armillary, this is likely your fastest and cheapest path to that goal.
