Blizzard announces new mobile title: Overwatch Rush
Surprising absolutely everyone today, the Overwatch team has announced a brand new mobile title, made specifically for mobile gamers, called Overwatch Rush. While initial details are scarce, I’ll fill you in on what we know so far.
Overwatch Rush is a top down shooter, taking a third person perspective that reminds me somewhat of the perspective being used in Heroes of the Storm or League of Legends. Current gameplay footage shows that Rush will be a 4v4 affair, though we do not yet know if we are getting the full roster from Overwatch as it stands today, or a more stripped down roster that may be added to later. Rush‘s control scheme appears very similar to the one used by Diablo Immortal where you can control movement by swiping your thumb on the left side of the screen, while attacking or using abilities using buttons on the right side of the screen. I have messed with these mobile controls off and on since Immortal‘s release and it works very well for the mobile title, so hopefully it plays out similarly.
In the available footage, the current heroes are:
- Tracer
- Mercy
- Soldier 76
- Reaper
- Reinhardt
- Lucio
- Pharah
This would provide a solid base of Heroes to start from, but we can’t assume these are all the Heroes which will be available to start.
It would also appear per the screenshots that Blizzard has released that the characters will also have skins, so you can be certain to get your swag on within game. It appears that the skins they’re showing in early images are very similar to skins you’ve seen before in the main game, so at this time nothing new to report, though we will be sure to let you know if slick new skins suddenly appear. Also uncertain is how you’ll obtain skins for your Heroes. As always, fashion is the true end game.
The main Overwatch team — otherwise known as Team 4 — will continue working on updates to the mainline Overwatch title, while a new, smaller team will be working on Rush independently. As this is a newly announced title, we’ll certainly bring you more once we know of it.
